Only really good authors can write sequels that tell a different story but still capture the atmosphere of the prequel. And because Nagira Yuu is a really good author, she manages all that and makes it just as emotionally devastating.
I loved this but please no one let her write a story about Shiba. I'm not sure my heart could take it. (Yes, I lie, I would want to read it and a part of me hopes it will happen but I definitely some time to process this one.)
This sequel to "Shortcake no ichigo ni wa sawaranaide" focuses on Nanri's best friend Abe. Because this is BL, he had to make a diet before getting to be the protagonist (and that is the only thing that really bothers me about this, although Nagira Yuu took pains to not make it about his appearance at all, which I appreciated), and he's running his parents' restaurant when he is asked by a regular customer with yakuza ties to hold on to a Ura doll for him. Ura dolls, or sex robots, are forbidden in Japan at that point, but Abe has never stopped loving androids, and seeing his best friend and his android lover has only magnified his concern for androids and their wellbeing. So that is how Takane and Abe meet and it isn't love at first sight and it isn't easy but it's a great story about how love grows and develops and about consciousness and souls and free will and it will make you cry.
By the time I realized the significance of the title (it's something everyone reading it will realize at some point) I was sobbing horribly. Compared to "Ichigo" though it wasn't for half of the book, so I guess that is something.
I absolutely loved it. Nagira Yuu is my favourite for a reason and she proves it again and again.
