Jared Templeton has settled down with his wolf shifter mate, Carson Angeni. For the most part, he’s given up his life as an assassin, but he finds other ways to fill his time. When he comes home with the scent of another male on him, Carson shows Jared that he hasn’t forgotten what he gave up to be with him.
Note: While this is a book far into the series, it can be read as a stand; although, it’s much better if the reader has at least read Goading the Enforcer (Wolves of Stone Ridge #6) to understand Jared and Carson’s dynamic.
Jared Templeton is the human half of the Carson/Jared coupling. He’s totally happy with his shifter mate—much to his surprise. He’s a badass who does his part to protect his mate, his pack and the rest of the paranormal world that he’s been brought into. But, that doesn’t mean that he can’t do other good deeds too. 😉
In this short story, we see a “softer side” of Jared as he helps out a young man in need of guidance. Jared hasn’t always been the strong, confident man we see now. Turns out he took his share of lumps and bullying as well. That doesn’t mean he thinks others should have to go through the same thing, so when he has the opportunity to help someone else out, he does it. Not that he doesn’t have a little bit of an ulterior motive as well. But hey, you scratch my back, I’ll scratch yours seem to be his modus operandi. 😊 If it leads to fun and games for the pack, so much the better.
Anybody who follows this series probably loves Jared Templeton. He’s one of the most interesting and exciting and surprising characters in the series. He’s got just the right amount of heat and snark. Any book is made better with Jared, and he’s the star of this one. So, of course, I loved this little story of Jared and Carson. 😊 There are also hot and sexy times for Carson and Jared, as they still can’t keep their hands off each other. Particularly when a little jealousy ratchets up Carson’s possessive nature.
Highly recommended for fans of this series. This is a quick hot little read for this couple.

n a major re-re-read of the Stone Ridge world. I usually enjoy Charlies' short stories and novellas (the occasional one is a clunkier) but I have found that the best way to read them is to series binge and read them in the recommended reading order for the 'world' instead of by series. This gives a much more satisfying read with a more consistent plot line and world. Even the clunkers become acceptable as a small part of the whole. The characters are still good, and as usual Charlie uses stereo types with skill and develops characters indirectly. The only characters that develop depth are those who appear and then reappear frequently. As individual reads? 2 or 3 - though 3 is more common.
Sigh. Jared and Carson. I just love them soooooo much! They are easily one of my ALL TIME FAVORITE couples, not of the series, but EVER!
The two of them are constantly sparking off one another and in constant need for each other’s bodies! Plus they’re hysterical together!
I wasn’t super satisfied by this little snippet of a story – I wanted more of the two of them interacting and it’s mostly one (erotic) and unique (kinda weird) sex scene involving shaving.
But… it’s still Jared and Carson, so totally worth it!
This story was short but sweet and very hot and sexy. Jared and Carson's relationship is still going strong after so many years, and as usual Jared is still a hoot. He really has his own distinct and strong personality. Great characters, titillating read. =)
Jared did a favor in order to get permission for fire works. He and his mate shared a special shave and lots of there on fireworks before time for Jared surprise for the pack.
