Cheyenne McCray fell in love with reading and writing early, deciding in kindergarten that one day she would become an author. Today, she is an award-winning New York Times and USA Today bestselling fiction author who’s sold millions of books worldwide. Having published more than 100 novels and novellas in contemporary and paranormal romance, urban fantasy and romantic suspense, she is now also writing cozy mysteries as Deb Ries.
Chey grew up on a ranch in southeastern Arizona and delights in creating stories of suspense, love, and redemption with characters and worlds her readers can get lost in. Chey and her equally geeky husband live with their two dogs, six ducks (the neighborhood celebrities), and a small flock of chickens in a small Arizona town where she enjoys gardening, crazy quilting and, of course, writing.
This book represents a lot of the reasons I've drastically decreased the number of books I read in the romance genre. I still say my favorite genre is romantic suspense but I've broaden to police/crime thrillers where the plots are much more developed.
Although the premise has promise...it's not a new one and has been done successfully...for me this one failed. I almost one starred it. Decent grammar and editing saved it and I gave it two stars. In this book, the set-up seemed contrived, the characters cliche and I'm so tired of insta-lust, insta-love, insta-let's get married.
There were so many times I rolled my eyes, put the book down and skimmed through it just to be done. There really isn't any suspense, everything is obvious.
The lead character's guilt over her childhood dead horse felt way over the top. And on one hand she's supposed to be this great business woman and on the other hand she seems incredibly stupid. Her character felt much more like an overly dramatic teenager but hey blame the lack of highly expensive coffee. Did I mention wealth is primarily shown by name dropping?
All the supporting characters felt undeveloped. In fact it felt like someone put some cardboard cutouts in front of a Hollywood scene background and then gave them some dialogue. She doesn't feel like this awesome fashion designer/business entrepreneur and the lead cowboy (forgot his name) didn't feel like a cowboy with a multi-million dollar ranching business.
In summary I think lack of depth to characters, scenes and plot killed the potential.
Celine Northland is a fashion designer with a plan to launch a new line of clothing. Thanks to a bet lost by Jayson McBride, his Arizona ranch is at her disposal for a week. He's not too happy to see all the extraneous people milling about on his property .. models, photographers, etc. They're upsetting his horses and they're upsetting him.
He's floored when he meets Celine. She may have been born with a silver spoon in her mouth, but she's not a wilting flower. And she's beautiful, to boot! The attraction is mutual as Celine finds herself falling for the handsome cowboy.
But Jayson has a secret .. one that Celine might not be able to live with. And someone is watching Celine with vengeance in mind. And that danger could be a lot closer than she thinks.
For romantic suspense with a bit of spice, you can't get any better than this prolific author. The reader can always depend on getting a crisp suspense story line, solid characters, and a fantastic love story. Although this is her latest in this series, this does well as a stand alone.
Many thanks to the author for the digital copy of AMAZED BY YOU. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
I am well into the cowboy mode. I loved it! A lovely read with Jayson McBride and Celine. Celine had her own fashion brand and was getting there. Poor Celine she went through a lot of pain, being shot by the villain. I didn't like her parents...ugh! This was such a good read - can't wait to read the next in this series. 5☆

Celine's whole world tips when she meets Jason McBride and she finds herself falling for the cowboy hard and fast. However, Jayson harbors a secret that could rip their relationship apart before it even starts.
When Jayson saves Celine’s life, it turns out she just might have saved his.
Five-star book. I love a story with a strong heroine. Jayson lost a bet in a poker game with Monty so he had to allow a fashion designer, Celine, to bring all her models to his ranch for a big fashion shoot. He was not happy about the whole setup. The group was to stay a whole week. When Celine first met Jayson, she lost her breath and most of her sense. To say she was delighted would be an understatement. Celine was a force to be reckoned with, plus she was a very strong person. Jayson wondered exactly how to handle her. Lots of unusual things were happening to her and she preserved through them all. The two had chemistry, intense chemistry. Both had deep secrets, things that caused them pain years after the fact. Highly recommend.
Meh. I didn’t really like this book. I think the dog was my favorite character. The writing and characters just felt flat and very cliche. Not sure I would read more by this author.
I could not put this book down, the story was wonderful. The author does such a wonderful job describing the scenery so you feel like you are there. The characters are down to earth, strong and independent and the story is well written with just the right amount of suspense and romance including a surprising twist to have it all collide with a beautiful ending full of love and family.
The last place Jayson McBride expects to be is on the losing end of a bet and having his ranch invaded by a fashion designer and her entourage filming a commercial for her new clothing line. Unhappy with the current state of things on the ranch…people getting into things they should not, upsetting the animals, leaving gates open, etc. he is anxiously awaiting the arrival of the woman to confront her and insist she make alterations to their shooting location. When she arrives, he does not know whether to stay mad or be impressed after their confrontation and her display with a shotgun. Whatever side emotions she evokes in him, their instant chemistry and attraction seem to top them all. Then seeing her take control after listening to his grievances and make the necessary alterations, he sees a softer side underneath her hard shell that piques his interest and he wants to know more. Maybe it will not be such a hardship having her around for a week after all.
Celine Northland is an up and coming fashion designer who has worked her way to where she is starting from scratch; without the help of her wealthy parents or her trust fund. The only money she ever borrowed from her family account she paid back with interest, not wanting to be dependent on them. An only child from parents who were only children themselves, she grew up sheltered, starving for love and affection, relying on different nannies to raise her instead of her parents; who saw her more as decoration when it suited their need. Raised in this environment she had no other choice but to form a hard shell around herself and her heart, having few friends and only herself to rely on. Wanting nothing more than to get to Arizona and film her commercial to save her company and herself, she is not prepared for Jayson or the feelings he stirs in her. After he saves her life, they start growing closer forming a bond sharing their pasts and helping each other to heal from past hurts. Finally feeling like everything is falling into place, a shocking turn of events once again threatens Celine’s life and Jayson hopes he can reach her in time. Sometimes the enemy is closer than you think, hiding in plain sight.
AMAZED BY YOU is a romance that will slowly draw you in to not only Jayson and Celine’s story but a dangerous mystery as well. Their story is the first in the Riding Tall 2 series, and we have even more of the McBride family to enjoy. You don’t really “have” to have read the first set of stories to understand this one. There may be family names that you won’t recognize but for the most part this is an entire new set of stories. I have not yet read the first Riding Tall series — and that didn’t stop my enjoyment of AMAZED BY YOU, for any family members from that first series were explained as we met. Personally, I intend to go back to the first series before continuing on with this one… it’s just my style of reading, I enjoy knowing what went on before.
Jayson and Celine may “look” like they come from far different worlds, but that has never stopped attraction or loving someone. While Jayson may have been expecting some stone cold witch to show up on this unwanted photo shoot, what he discovered messed with his head, in a very intriguing way for this lady was nothing like he expected. Celine comes from a privileged background and cold, unloving parents who saw her as part of their collections to be shown off. She’s struck out on her own, in many ways, and carved out a prominent name for herself in fashion design. This photo shoot will launch her new collection – and it has to be beyond fabulous because not everything is going to plan.
Celine’s history with horses is heartbreaking, but one amazing horse and her new baby will work a bit of a miracle for Celine. That breaking of walls will only intensify as Celine faces financial troubles, a very strong attraction to Jayson, and the reality of violent weather in Arizona during the rainy season. What she is unaware of, but is beginning to suspect, is that there is someone close to her that is out to destroy everything she holds dear… up to and including her life and Jayson’s as well.
AMAZED BY YOU is not only a really good romance, but the suspense and danger gives it an additional edge that kept me turning pages. I enjoyed myself very much and will definitely be back for more from the McBride family. If you love a good Modern Western Romance with touches of suspense and danger then pick up Celine and Jayson’s story, you’ll enjoy the adventure.
Amazed by You Riding Tall 2, Book 1 By: Cheyenne McCray Narrated by: David Quimby
Cheyenne McCray treats us to Riding Tall 2!!! I am so excited she is continuing her Riding Tall series and this one is not only romantic, but full of deceit and suspense! Jayson McBride has lost a bet and as a result has to have a fashion commercial shot at his ranch. When he meets Celine, the woman in charge, they immediately butt heads. But this impressive woman is more than meets the eye. Impressive, she is a spitfire. Things are not going well for her though. Someone is stealing from her, and danger is lurking. Will this couple find their way to each other and solve the mystery? This enemies to lovers story is fast paced, and exciting. Jayson has that McBride warmth that we have come to love. He is protective and you can feel hhis love even before he realizes it. Celine's feistiness is what caught me first. Then her vulnerability made her a very real woman. I loved the mystery and suspense that surrounded them and the outcome is unexpected! I loved this beginning to this spinoff series!
David Quimby is the McBride men and I am so glad he is continuing the narration for McCray. He brings out the chivalrous feel of Jayson and keeps Celine strong, yet feminine. Love his narrations and look forward to book 2!
Thank you to Cheyenne McCray for a copy of Amazed By You. This had no influence on my review.
Never having read this author I wasn't sure what I was getting into. After reading the first page I knew I was in for a treat. Right off I was hooked and couldn't turn the pages fast enough. Jayson McBride owns a very large ranch. After losing a bet he has to endure a commercial shoot for women's clothing on his ranch. He was none too happy about this.
Celine Northland is in charge of the shoot as it is her clothing line that is being shot. She is not very popular with her employees as things have to be executed perfectly. Jayson finds that there is a soft side to Celine. He rescues her from a flash flood. He finds the closer he gets to her the more feelings he has.
Celine did not grow up with much love. Sure she had her parents but she was more like a living doll for them to show off and then put back on the shelf until next time. After being rescued her feelings to Jayson softened. I could go on and on but I don't want to spoil it for you. This is more than just a romance with some hot bits. There is also a bit of suspense to hold your interest. I loved every minute of this book and will surely be reading this author again.
Losing a bet could be the worst thing for rancher Jayson McBride, his ranch is coved in production people making a commercial. His ranch hands ogling models and the noise is stressful to his animals. He's waiting for the uppity to full of herself designer to show so he can give her a piece of his mind. Coming to a Arizona ranch is the last place Celine Northland wants to be, but if this will help launch her new clothing line she'll have to get past her guilt and sorrow to make it happen. Jayson cant help but be impressed with Celine, she is so much more then the woman she presents to the world. Jayson is more man then Celine has ever know and she feels an instant connection to him and the land. A lost bet could be the best bet of his life. The story line is great and the banter and witty dialogue keeps you turning the page. The chemistry between Jayson and Celine is intense and the nail biting suspense will leave you breathless.
Very enjoyable read. Celine is a very sharp woman whose family has never given a damn about her other than to show off her accomplishments while she was growing up. She leaves and starts up a clothing design company and ends up on a ranch for style shoot to promote her new designs.
Jayson owns the ranch where the shoot is being done. Does not want her and her people there. They are on his ranch because he lost a bet. As he grows to know her though he sees the person she is on the inside. Amazing according to his thinking. When she nearly drowns in a flash flood he takes care of her as they are trapped on the ranch because of the flood. He begins to understand just what she really means to him.
A little mystery here and sexy lovemaking going on. They are a good couple and we meet his family as well and of course characters that get their own books. On book two of series now.
The heat between the characters seemed believeable; but, they jumped into a life together really fast without any acknowledgment of the difficulties of living in two different places or coming from different backgrounds.
It also really bothered me that Celine runs her own business, in fact, multiple businesses, but a single person, not even an accountant, manages all of her funds. And it seemed like Celine rarely checked; although most businesses I know, regardless of size, check on their accounts. They also have accountants, office managers, assistants, etc, depending on the size of the business and it's needs. This story seemed to say that she was a great businessperson and that she was a terrible one who never reviewed her accounts or checked her balances.

I really enjoyed reading this book. At first I thought that Celine was going to be a spoiled rich chick but was pleasantly surprised and really connected to her character. There are a few action scenes that were so intense I couldn’t put the book down. Jayson is a great guy that just wants his ranch back to normal, until he starts to fall for Celine.
I have waited a year for a new Cheyenne McCray book and this was worth the wait. Hopefully, the wait will not be so long for the next book
~I received this book as an ARC but not in exchange for an honest review. I reviewed this book because I understand the importance of reviews and love Cheyenne McCray’s writing~
A wonderful romantic tell about overcoming personal demons by helping someone else embrace the simple treasures life has to offer. I love all of the McBride's l, they are great people. Jayson is so humble and trusts that of my partner Thor; so when Thor keeps his guard up around Monty, Jayson has remains suspicious. Celine suffers from abuse and has worked hard to make a name for herself. She refuses to be a victim by choice but has more guilt on her shoulders than the flood the nearly ended her. Jayson and Celine rescue each other while healing themselves.
When a big-time neighbor of Jayson bets him the use of his ranch for a fashion shoot, Jayson doesn't want to lose. But when he meets the designer, Celine, all bets are off.
Celine feels this is the line that will get her to the big time. But she has hackers trying to get at her too. And it's storm season as well, which messes with her shoot.
When Jayson saves her, it starts a whirlwind romance neither was looking for. On top of that, Celine's second in command, Jayson's neighbor, is being very cagey. Working together, they can figure everything out, but will it draw them apart?
Jayson and Celine get their HEA in this stand-alone book.
For the most part the plot kept my interest, but the characters could have been better developed. The secondary characters--Monty and Celine's parents particularly--were simply stereotypes. Some of the plot was a bit flimsy--like why Monty had a ranch in AZ in the first place since he hated it there. How was this supposed to be part of his plan? Also, the reason that Jayson gave for not following through with making love to Celine when she initiated it didn't make a lot of sense. The author was simply looking for an excuse to interrupt their sex, but she didn't come up with a very plausible one.
I enjoyed reading this Book. It was well written, Albeit the H “Jayson McBride.” was made out to be a wimp of sorts in the Story. Not sure how to explain without giving away any spoilers. The way he was put into certain situations was enough for me to keep turning the pages, then when he could have saved the H Celine Northland it turned & she was the one who ended up saving his life. I truly wished Cheyenne would have written that he was the strongest H who did what was necessary to save her life.
Saddle up and join me on a trip to Prescott, AZ…where the hot McBride family roam freely…lol Seriously though, this is another great story about one of the McBride men. In this one, the cowboy meets an heiress who has struck out on her own from her overbearing parents and is designing her fashion line. The trip to Prescott is so that she can do a photo shoot…but someone doesn’t want that to happen! In fact, someone wants her dead! Great suspense…with hot romance.
Jayson meets his match in a feisty, strong-willed woman whose company is doing a photo shoot at his ranch. It is all going wrong for Jayson. The crew ignores his requests, his horses are struggling with all the activity. And that drone! Celine's past haunts her and she looks to find peace at the ranch when she meets Jayson and finds he captivates her. Will Jayson fill a void in Celine's life? Excellent narration, suspenseful storyline, and characters that will warm your heart and have you cheering for them.
Jayson looses a bet and he ends up letting his range get used for a photo shoot for a clothing designer. Celine gets stuck in a mudslide and gets saved by Jayson. They end up stuck together for some time and she finds out that someone is emptying her bank accounts. Turns out this guy has had it out for her family for quite some time. But with Jaysons help she manages to stop the crook from totally ending her.
When Jayson McBride loses a bet and ends up with a photo shoot happening on his land, he is not happy! That is until he meets Celine Northland! After a couple mishaps and a torrential rain washes away the road, Celine is stuck on Jayson's ranch and that is when these two get close!! The connection between these two is so magnetic that it is hard for them to stay apart!! This is a must read book!! Love all the McBride's book!! Don't hesitate to one click this great story!!
All the suspense and romance you could want with a great story wrapped around and weaving through! The beautiful Arizona ranch backdrop, dramatic storms, a greedy villain, intelligent Australian shepherd Thor, horses and a soft talking cowboy capture fashion designer Celine ' s attention and danger descends like the monsoon rain. Lots more McBride stories ahead!
Once again the author supplied everything I need to thoroughly enjoy a book. The characters were believable and the scenes perfectly described. I could picture myself there in the background watching the scenes unfold. The intrigue added to the romance bringing it full circle. I appreciate how the author carries family members throughout the series letting me get to know the family.
Absolutely loved every single minute of this one. I couldn't put it down, even for dinner lol. Two tough, strong, wounded souls meeting at that special place where the heart lives and breaths. Loved Celine, and hot damn, Jayson can put his boots under my bed any day! Lots of action is the cherry on top. Highly recommended....
Great read Celine and Jayson found love after saving one another's lives that turned into them loving each other for as long as they both shall live and with the things that happened in both their pasts they learned and healed from it
I love the series and hope to get more on the McBride family and how they progress in love and family
Celine and Jayson are HOT together. They have an instantly recognizable chemistry, and are positively combustible once they acknowledge it. The different story arcs and the added suspense had me on the edge of my seat in parts. Loved this book. This is my first foray into Cheyenne McCray's writing and I'm looking forward to more.
Horrible. Complete waste of time. Skimmed through the last 50% of the book because it was painful. The dialogue between the characters was ridiculous. Completely unnatural and unrealistic. The timing of events didn’t make sense. First it was morning, they share a cup of coffee and then it’s dinner time??? I can’t even say the story line was interesting because it just wasn’t. Poor chemistry and the love scene was cringe-worthy.
