Elizabeth Bennet cannot talk about books in a ballroom, but apparently, she can do arithmetic. A little light-hearted diversion at the Netherfield ball assisted by the stone-cold precision of mathematics
Squeeeeee If you look at my history you will know I lurve this author. So you won't be surprised by my high rating of his one pager.
this snippet takes place at the Netherfield ball in the short bit of time around Lizzy and Darcy's dance. Instead of Wickham they discuss maths (british) or percentages and it leads to a HEA
“Without mathematics, there’s nothing you can do. Everything around you is mathematics. Everything around you is numbers.” Shakuntala Devi
Now, this was just cute. It was clean, could be read in a few minutes and appeals to that D&E page time that we love so well. Our one-shot was during the Netherfield Ball. Wickham had not made his appearance and the only problem between ODC [our dear couple] was that ‘tolerable’ statement that Lizzy held onto as tightly as her virginity.
I loved the interaction in their discussion of her scribbling numbers on her dance card. This opened a dialogue for them to settle their differences. They were both logically and mathematically inclined… you could see his respect for her increasing as they discussed ‘things’ during and after their dance. I loved it. It was so cute.
1st read: 8-14-17 2nd read: 7-19-19 3rd read: 9-16-19 I just had to peek at this again. 4th read: 7-3-21 still cute.
A delightful snapshot and a wonderful opportunity to eavesdrop on a Mathematically inclined conversation between a man,who dearly loves his dance partner and a lady who thinks she has little to lose in conversing with him as said man despises her family and has already insulted her good self!
What a difference a few minutes make!!! Loved, loved, loved the ending!! Clever Mr D! ☺️
This short story allows Elizabeth and Darcy to talk out their thoughts during the Netherfield Ball. It is fun to see Elizabeth using math to make her decisions. Their exchange of thoughts and questions leads to a better understanding.
In this Pride and Prejudice short story at the Netherfield Ball mathematics is on Elizabeth's brain. But will it work out to the good of her and her family. An enjoyable story
This is a very fun short story that is quick to read. I deducted a star for the few errors that aren't normally seen in Wade's work, but they hardly detracted from the story.
