An Mpreg Romance

You never forget your first love…

Damien King has made a decent life for himself as an Alpha firefighter in his hometown. Drinking with the crew of Engine #15 and picking bar fights with men who insult omegas keeps him from thinking about his past.

Back in town for a funeral, the last person Tommy Laurence expects to save him from a burning hotel room is his long-lost heartache, Damien. Seeing his old best friend awakens feelings he had sought to forget, or at least they were best friends… until Damien had confessed his love a decade ago.

Damien can scarcely bear to see Tommy, but the attraction is too intense, and he can’t seem to stay away. A single steamy night between the two becomes a standing appointment. Damien finds himself torn between the pain of the past and the hope for a future, and when Tommy ends up pregnant, the two can no longer pretend to ignore the deep resentments that exist between them.

In this heartwarming 60,000-word gay Alpha/Omega mpreg romance, Firefighter’s First Love, Tommy and Damien rekindle the embers of a forgotten passion and try to build the flames of a long lasting love - for each other and their baby. Intensely passionate, graphic scenes of alpha-omega sex make this book suitable only for adult readers.

Like many of you, miscommunications between main characters are one of my pet peeves. I can handle them when it is obviously necessary to the story line or if it's comedic and a bit slap-stick. But the miscommunication here is one for the record books.

10 years. 10 years of miscommunication. These boys were having sex, one was in love, one was miserable that he still wants the man he secretly hates and treats like dirt out of the bedroom, and they still weren't on the same page.

10 years. Gah, shoot me now and put me out of my misery. I can't believe I read the whole book.

*** An MPreg non-shifter romance, a second chance, and lots of hope. By Austin Bates, Aiden's brother.
Ten years ago in High School, Tommy and Damien were affected by their homophobic town.
Alpha Damien was beaten badly back then;

he's now a firefighter in his hometown.

Omega Tommy, owns a tattoo business

and has come home for his Dad's funeral.
Damien rescues Tommy from a hotel fire, not realizing right away who he was. They talk, have sex and Damien runs. Will their guilt and blame ever be sorted out ? Through the time span, they have more hot sex, and there is vandalism at the tattoo shop. Damien hasn't seem to let go of his conflict and anger. If these adults would simply talk it out and clear the air, the problems would be handled. They have to give more effort when Tommy realizes he's pregnant.

We do not get every piece of information we wanted as to the beating, what happened after, etc. Can their issues be overcome? Will the vandal be caught before he escalates?
The story is well written, does hold our attention and makes us believe in second chances.
ENJOY !

A lot of angst for little payout...

at least for me, as a reader. Two best friends had a horrific falling out ten years ago. I lost track of all the references this "event" had. Ya, it was pretty huge, but I still didn't understand the animosity between the two when they meet up again. Of course they get together, but can they trust each other? Oh no!

The book was ok. It wasn't as bad as I thought--especially with that cover! I mean, really, who thinks that's hot? I read this for a challenge. It kept me occupied while my dog got groomed. He's nice and soft now and the book is over. A win-win in my book.

Young love can be so tragic but second chances happen...

Austin Bates, so irritated with you cause I have spent too much on books, then you had to create a story I had to have in my library!

Tommy and Damien were best friends and were in love when an unspeakable and tragic event forced them apart as high school seniors. Ten years later Tommy is back in town when his father dies. I cried for both and totally loved Tommy for his strength to pick himself up in the face of adversity and heartbreak. Damien was totally broken from the high school event and couldn't get past that. Best second chance book I've read!

I really loved this book, I just couldn't put it down just wanting to find out what happened next after each page.

This story is about a love that once was between Damien a firefighter & Tommy a tattoo artist when they were kids ending in a tragic event. Many years have past and they are brought together again into the same town with old demons haunting the pair. They must fight to be together and as a family or continue on their separate ways.

It never ceases to surprise me how talented a good writer can pack so much information, heart and soul into story. Austin Bates is becoming a master of this.

I am hoping that Austin Bates may have other stories in the pipe line that include, others from the fire station and how they find love.

My advice is not to miss out on this book, it is worth the read.

I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book.

Audiobook review: I did not like the narrator at all for this one. His voice and tone were too harsh for the characters.

The story itself was bland and boring and I found the characters to be dull and lifeless.

I liked the interaction between the main characters Damien and Tommy.
You had feelings for both of them and hoped that they would sort themselves out.
Anyone who likes a little bit of tension with their HEA will love this book.

I honestly chose this book because of all the SH points on the cover but it turned out to be a pretty good second chance at love story. Both MCs were nice guys that were dealing with a lot of pain from the past. Their behavior towards each other as they rekindled their love was believable. The secondary characters also added some nice bits of humor to the story. I would read more from this author

To be hones,t I only chose this book for a reading challenge, and it turned out to be an okay read for me. This is about getting a second chance at love after 10 years of being apart.

This book was all about miscommunication, guilt, broken trust and lots of angst. The majority of the book was the two meeting up after 10 years, but we only get little tidbits at a time on how they even broke up.

It received a low star rating from me because I didn't like the relationship between Damien and Tommy. It didn't make sense for them to be together IMOP, and if I don't care about the MC's and their relationship it's impossible to like their story.

Drama, tragic pasts, and old hurts. A story that will have you biting your nails till the very end. Besides rooting for these guys to get it together.

Do you still remember your first love?
Alpha Damien King does and it has stuck with him his entire life so far. But try as he might to forget it with rescuing people and starting bar fights against haters of omegas. His life is always full of drama. Until enough certain people had enough. And told him to find something else to do other than terrorizing people. The last person he honestly expects to run into is his first love Tommy. And he ends up rescuing him on top of it. When back in his old town for a funeral. A tragic past, old hurts and an even old feelings of the heart that never stopped beating for the boy he wanted to forget come forward again. Can Damien and Tommy forget the past and move on to greener pastures together... Or will the past still tear them apart?

The MCs were the highlight in this story, they were both well defined and likeable. The story was pretty entertaining but disjointed. I needed the many holes found therein, filled. For example, the hate crime that the plot is centred on seems inconsequential in the end, and the ten year miscommunication was extreme and not much light is shed on the matter either. The story starts off slow but improves. I think it could have been something pretty good if the storyline was elaborated on and themes/relationships explored further. An ok read.

Honestly I felt like this could have been so much better. I mean the writing is well done and the story line is decent, but it just did not do it for me. I found myself skimming a lot of this.
I know that there is hatred in this world and people that commit hate crimes, but I don't want to read about it when I'm trying to escape my own life for a few hours. It's why I came to love romance. So the entire plot really revolves around a hate crime and that was just a little too much for me.
Also, the ten year period of miscommunication between the mc's was just wayyyyyy toooooooo longgggg. Ugh

This was probably fan fiction at one point.

Look I have no qualms about enjoying my mpreg from time to time. Mind you I rarely read it if it's been published. Just fan fiction and it's my super guilty pleasure.

This story was bizarre and had very little cohesion. If you're going to take a very much hated trope in MM then at least try and make it half-way decent, don't add to the pile of crap. I mean I have read immensely beautiful mpreg fan fiction so it can be done.

This was just stupid.

Character development slightly lacking in otherwise enjoyable read

2.5 stars. Had some minor grammatical issues which were distracting and the story was a bit weighed down by the hidden drama which wasn't revealed until 80% in. Add to this, the MCs relationship was confusing...not enough back story to explain why love still existed 10 years later. BUT complaints aside, I'll prob pick up another book from the same author.

There didn't seem to be any clear motivation for Damien's actions. He was hot one minute, cold the next, and then, to find out the absurd reason he'd been mad for ten years . . . well, it just didn't make any sense.

Red Hot Daddy is a mpreg story of old friends, who became enemies after a traumatic event, getting a second chance at love after years apart. It was written by Aiden and Austin Bates, and narrated by Barney Parkwynne.

Before I get started in the actual review I just wanted to confess that this was a tough book for me to listen to. One of the reasons it was tough was purely personal. I was in an abusive relationship with someone from La Junta, Colorado for many years. So, when La Junta was mentioned in the book, it was triggering as hell for me. Despite that, I did my very best to listen to this book without judgment to give an honest review for the authors and the narrator.

Tommy Laurence is an omega tattoo artist living in La Junta, Colorado. He goes back to his childhood hometown of Golden Colorado to see about his family home after his father dies. He would have just left the house and his father to rot, but the home belonged to Tommy’s deceased mom who he loved very much before cancer took her. The MCs run into each other when Tommy comes back to Golden to deal with his mom’s house. A fire starts at the hotel where Tommy is staying and Damien is one of the firefighters to respond.

Tommy has a lot of painful history in Golden that he’d rather not face ever again.
A huge part of that painful history is his alpha ex-best friend/ex-boyfriend, Damien King. They were inseparable until Damien was attacked as a teenager. Damien didn’t want anything to do with Tommy after that because of a misunderstanding. The misunderstanding caused their friendship to dissolved in a bad way. Damien had to go to California for medical treatment after the attack and Tommy fled Golden to settle in La Junta. For ten years they didn’t see or speak to each other. Damien eventually returned to Golden and became a firefighter. Meanwhile, Tommy opened a tattoo shop and settled into life on his own.

Things are bad between them. At first, I thought Red Hot Daddy was going to be about Damien pining after his omega ex. I thought he’d be the forgiving alpha that didn’t want his omega boyfriend to leave him. I was so wrong! The miscommunication and misunderstandings between the MCs basically ruined everything for them. Because of that, Damien holds what happened in the past against Tommy. It was Tommy who wanted to apologize for what happened and make amends.

I don’t want to go into too much detail about what happened because it’s obvious that the authors wanted to leave what happened until later in the book. I’ll just say that if the two men had talked, they could have saved themselves ten years of pain and suffering. I was frustrated that information was kept from Damien which caused him to hold a grudge. I was also irritated by the fact that Tommy could have just spoken up before and after the attack but he held his tongue. Yes, I understand why he didn’t say anything. I just didn’t like it.

Them coming back together was a little iffy for me. It hurt my heart to see Tommy being used as a repeated one night stand, especially the first time! It felt like Damien was just using Tommy because he was a warm hole even though Damien still had so much anger toward Tommy. I hate people using others, so that was just crappy in my opinion. What hurt, even more, was Tommy becoming pregnant and Damien saying he couldn’t trust Tommy that the baby was his because of the past. Seriously?

I don’t know! This was just an alright story for me. It wasn’t great, but it wasn’t terrible either. I was mostly able to listen and enjoy the book, but I won’t read or listen to it again. If you’re into Aiden and Austin Bates, I’d say go ahead a give this a read. You guys might enjoy it more if you can see past the problems I had.

I think this is my favorite Austin Bates book so far! I absolutely love second chance love stories and Austin Bates nails this one! Damien and Tommy have a passionate, sometimes heartbreaking, story about first love, forgiveness, real love and the challenges life can throw at you.

Damien and Tommy were best friends who shared a very special connection right from the start. But just as their friendship was moving into first love, tragedy strikes Damien and he spends the next ten years blaming Tommy. Tommy blames himself too, he's moved away from his hometown and puts all his energy into running his tattoo business. Tommy has to return to his hometown for his father's funeral and is not looking forward to it, he hates that place. When a fire starts in the hotel he's staying at it's firefighter Damien who rescues him, but their reunion is not all stars and sunshine. Both men still carry horrible feelings about what happened that day, but there's still a connection between these two. The question is, can they move beyond the past to create a future together?

I loved this story, the push and pull between these two - GAH! I was totally rooting for them, but the past is still plays such a part in their story that it's a struggle for them to move forward. I loved the development of the story and their relationship, learning bits and pieces as these two reconnect. They can't deny the passion between them and when a baby becomes part of the game...it's time to really see if Damien can truly forgive Tommy. I think Austin Bates did a great job bringing this whole story together, it was a great mix of humor and emotion and in the end so much love. Damien and Tommy are definitely favorites of mine!

A Second Chance At Forever

Tommy and Damien, best friends with a real shot at so much more, until one fateful day. Fast forward ten years, the attraction is still there, along with resentment, unresolved feelings, hurt and anger. When one night of searing passion has consequences, Tommy and Damien have their work cut out for them, because now, it’s no longer just their lives being affected. Red Hot Daddy is a beautifully written, angst filled, Mpreg alpha/omega second chance romance. The character are engaging and fully developed. The plot heartbreaking, yet uplifting and smoothly written. I really came to care for Tommy and Damien, and I felt as if I got to know them. Without going into detail for fear of playing spoiler, I came understand why Tommy made the decision he did ten years ago, and my heart broke for him. I also understood why Damien felt as he did and believe me, there was nothing I wanted more than a happy ending for these two! The narration that brought this second chance romance to life was fabulous! I loved the voices chosen for Tommy and Damien. It was so easy to tell who was speaking! I also loved the voice and manner of speaking used for the “non dialogue” portions of the narration. It made it easy to tell the difference between scene setting and dialogue, and for me, that really enhanced the listening pleasure! This one had it all and I enjoyed every moment!

How many times do people really get a second chance at love with their destined soulmate? In this case Adrian and Tommy do get that coveted second chance and more. They were best friends throughout childhood and high school until one day one took a chance and they were more. There was a huge incident and Damien was beaten very badly by his trusted football coach and some other players. Damien felt like Tommy abandoned him that day and would not listen to the facts from his family and friends. Ten years later they come together for their second chance.

Tommy now a successful tattoo artist in another town and Damien meet up again when Tommy is in town for his father's funeral. They both learn that the people of the town supported them more than they thought. Their relationship progresses and Tommy feels like Damien cannot forgive him for that time and is dealing with his insecurity about that while Damien thinks that he doesn't actually have to SAY what he is feeling. It took Tommy and the baby almost loosing their lives for Damien to actually speak the right words.

I always try to give an honest review that doesn't give spoilers but does give enough information for you to want to read the book. An awesome book that will hopefully become another series for a great author...take a chance on this read as well as all his other books.

Red Hot Daddy, a paranormal firefighter mpreg novel with a side of second chance romance. Not our usual read, but if omega/alpha relationships are your thing, it should be on your TBR list.

What did we enjoy?
- Alpha / Omega: there is something really great about Damien and Tommy as an alpha/ omega relationship. Now, this is a non-shifter book, and the first one featuring mpreg that isn’t animal/shifter based, but honestly we didn’t miss the shifter aspect.
- Push and Pull: We really enjoyed the push and pull of the relationship between Damien and Tommy, it was fun.

What took away from the book?
- Miscommunication and Angst: Ugh - 10 years of miscommunication. Really? And add the angst, so much angst, it was so much and we really wanted these boys to pull their heads out and TALK. Ugh
- Disjointed story: There was a lot going on in this little book, and we felt it jumped around a bi in plot and them left quite a few cliff-hangers. Like the hate-crime that the book was centred around just kind of went away???? We ended up skimming just to make it through the inconsistencies.

So, Red Hot Daddy was a miss for us, it is fast-paced easy read, with not a lot of meat to the story. But, if you are looking for a Red Hot fireman, a sexy omega and a mpreg story without shifting, pick up this second chance romance!

Damien King is an Alpha Firefighter who has a good life in his hometown. He loves spending time with his crew from the firehouse drinking and just having a good time. He is notorious for picking fights with Alphas who love mistreating Omegas.

Tommy Laurence is a successful tattoo artist. He has to go back home for a funeral, which is the last place he wants to be, but he has things to take care of. The last thing he expects is to be rescued from a hotel fire by his former best friend, Damien. Seeing Damien after 10 years opens old wounds and brings forth bad memories.

They are both forced to face their past and try and put old hurts behind them. Just when they think they are moving forward, the past creeps its ugly head again. There is just so much hurt and pain, and it festered for so long that it is not easily forgiven or forgotten.

The story teased me with mentioning the "event". Before the big reveal I was like what could possibly have happened between the two of them that would cause them to be torn apart the way they were when it is so obvious the love they had for each other, and still have. When the "event" was finally revealed I was not prepared for it. I would not, in a million years, have seen that one coming. I absolutely loved this story. I laughed, I cried and I cheered. Well done!!!

An intriguing book the writing was good. The plot was entertaining and it was steady throughout the book. I found the story and characters likeable. The characters were well developed and thought out. Damien King is an Alpha and a firefighter and Tommy Laurence is an Omega, a tattoo artist and a business owner and they are the MC’s of this book. There was humor, fires, a motorcycle, graffiti, a treehouse, tattoos, an unresolved past and so much more in this book.

Here is a quote from the book, “Did you know that Dominic Allen has a tattoo?” “He was a Marine.” Mica shrugged. He shook his head. “Two tattoos, then. He has one for his old fire team.” “In North Carolina? I’ve Heard of teams doing that. Usually,” Mica said wryly, “they’re drunk.” “When I was in California, there was a guy who had a tattoo for every team he’d served with. Sixteen seals connected by flames. I always thought he was nuts.”. There is more but you will need to read the book which I can recommend as a good read. I voluntarily read an advance copy of this book for an honest review.

The story was pretty disjointed. It was confusing because it seemed like there were gaps in the sequence of events. The reunion was interesting but the in between with their relationship left me wanting. There was no sense of time between Damien and Tommy reuniting. They seemed to have had a very casual relationship from what readers could read Damien would spend pockets of time with Tommy like he was a dirty little secret. Tommy projected as a tough omega that wouldn't roll over very quickly for any ole alpha or allow himself to be mistreated. I know he had history with Damien but to see him allowing Damien do just that and treat him as a plaything made it a bit of a tough read. Between that and this I couldn't rate it any higher. The story was good and showed promise. It did pull me in and kept me reading.

An ARC was provided to me in exchange for an honest review.

This was a great book. I really enjoyed the story and watching these two men make their way back to each other after a decade of being apart. While at times I felt more for Tommy, because he was carrying the guilt of a bad choice, I also understood why he made that decision and still came back to hurt him in the end. Damien was a bit mean for a good chunk of the book, but I also stood his point of view.

While the book was a bit angst, it had a happy ending that was pretty expected but still great.

I am one that enjoys angst in my books. I want the struggle to lead to the perfect ending. Sometimes too much angst just makes you root against a positive outcome and that is what happened to me with this book. With Tommy and Damien it felt like too much. They were so angry it felt like there was no way a physical connection could even make it into the equation. Then the whole pregnancy was about the point I quit but I pushed on. I am glad I did because in the end it was a real second chance at true love.

This is a beautifully written second chances mpreg story about Damien, an alpha firefighter and Tommy, an omega tattoo artist. Tommy returns home for a funeral and happens to get rescued by Damien when the hotel he's staying at catches fire. After 10 years apart they have a second chance to figure out what happened in the past so they can move towards the future. When Tommy gets pregnant it's more crucial that they figure out what they want. I really enjoyed this book and was glad Damien and Tommy got their happy ending. Narrator Barney Parkwynne does a fabulous job.

Another red hot read from Austin Bates. I've loved his work since his first one earlier this year, and I swear he just keeps getting better...although I'm not sure how that's possible when he's already fab. This book was just...wow. I loved that I couldn't figure out the bone of contention. Usually I can guess, and it was awesome that I couldn't. And, I also loved that it didn't just get magically solved but they actually had to work through things. Well done.
