MUCH better than the first book in this series. Oh my god, SO MUCH BETTER!

Moonlight Seduction is the second book in the de Vincent series and I think it can be read as a standalone. There’s stuff that happens in the first book that comes to play in this one but I think JLA did a really good job of explaining everything in an understandable way.

This book is about Nikki and Gabe. When she was a teenager, Nikki would follow Gabe around with moon eyes, head over heels for him and he treated her like she was his younger sister. When she was eighteen she left the de Vincent home for college and never looked back, having no contact with them. But now, four years later with her mom who has become ill, she steps in for her as household staff for the de Vincents, and does her best to avoid Gabe. But he doesn’t want to avoid her.

It’s hard for me to write this review without comparing it to the first book, so I’m going to do that a little bit and hopefully you don’t mind. I’ll read anything JLA writes. ANYTHING. But it doesn’t mean I will love everything she puts out. And Moonlight Sins, the first book had been a bit of a let down. I was bored when reading it. That was not the case with this second book, I enjoyed every second of it! I even read the sex scenes in full. I never do that! I almost always skim sex scenes and devour the angst (I’m weird, I know).

I loved the heroine Nikki, but I always love JLA heroines. She was snarky and kind and fun, and she loved quietly and didn’t know how to express it. Gabe was a lot of fun, I love seeing the humbling of the playboy. He’s more of a playboy off screen and in the past, none of that was actively present in this book which I appreciated. Once his brain caught up with his feelings I loved seeing him try and navigate his feelings for Nikki and seeing the two of them fall together.

Jennifer Armentrout is a queen. You cannot convince me otherwise. I probably say this after reading all her books, but you need to get your butt in gear and read this book and her entire back log. And you needed to do it like, yesterday.

A crappie romance!
Well written but crappie romance nonetheless!

The hero ten years older than the heroine, he should’ve known better and not using a girl who had a crush on him for six years since she was 16 years old. And the stupid girl just grab any scraps he throw to her way, pathetic!

Oh, he was really in love with his ex, then later on became a dead ex.
When the ex dump him, he used the heroine for sex, then she left for college. When the H and h meet again, he used her again, that stupid girl. No he didn’t love the heroine at all, she just an easy laid! Up to 90% he still didn’t know how he felt about her. To add the injury,
I bet if the ex still alive and wanted him back, he will running fast to her without a second glance at the heroine.

As I said, a crappie romance!!
If you wanted a hero who is crazy about the heroine, you better stay away from this one.

I should dnf-ed but I keep flipped the pages and hoping the girl will have some self respect and forget the loser! Oh no, of course not, wouldn’t be any angst if that happened, would it? Yuck!

I will say it again, a well written story but with horrible storylines! 😫

I loved it even more than the first book!This book was fantastic, I like it from the first pages!I enjoyed Moonlight Seduction more because the story is mostly focused in the romance which I adored!

Gabe and Nikki were so good together!They were perfect for each other!The romance between them was slow burn,sexy and intense.At the beginning they were trying to resist each other but this couldn't happen since both have so strong feelings. There is a little bit of mystery and suspense to make the story interesting a lot!

I'm so excited for the next book, I love this series!The writing was fantastic and the story entertaining so there isn't a moment I felt bored!You have to continue this series, it's getting better and better!

Awesome story!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I can always tell a when I have read a great story. It is when you pick up the next book and you remember everything in the last one. Moonlight Sins was the first in a series of books about three brothers with plenty of family issues and family secrets.
This book focuses on Gabe and his powerful connection to Nikki. A connection that should never be. It’s not accepted. It’s not supposed to work. They fight it as best as they can. Keep it hidden until they can’t. And it sizzles with fiery anticipation and hella hot romance you will feel in your soul.
The story is also about secrets. Secrets that could expose Gabe and his family in multiple ways. Things at his brothers may or may not know. Family secrets that they are trying to protect.
This story has multiple layers, a bit of suspense, and a flash of mystery too so boredom is never an option.
Jennifer has captured my attention once again with this awesome book. An amazing addition to the series. I can’t wait for book 3 and the last cranky and the most secretive brother. I bet it will be a hot read too! Yummm
* fyi - this book does contain triggers and a violent scene
I love reading romantic suspense when it's done right. Thankfully, this one was. Much like the first book, this was romance with a bit of suspense and just a whispered suggestion of some paranormal activity. The suspenseful parts help facilitate the growth of the relationship, that is what I like to see in these books. From the plot to the characters to the setting, everything about this book was perfect.
At 400 pages, it was longer than the books I typically read. Read More.
It was better than Lucian's story mainly because I enjoyed Gabe more. I also liked the age gap difference which is a total plus for me. The low burn, the angsty situations and all the smart and funny dialogues are a go for. I am very curious what kind of hero Devlin will be.. SO CURIOUS!!
SPOILER FREE – TWO BOOK REVIEW
“Makes you wonder if the de Vincent curse is real, doesn’t it?” Two things happened to the de Vincent women. They either end up…unstable. Or dead.”
We’re loving this series; it’s like an epic dark family drama with copious secrets, deceptions and an awful lot of evil-minded scheming. We’re still completely in the dark where this series is going and have no idea what lies behind it all. Fabulously thrilling, suspenseful, angsty and dramatic. Extremely sexy and passionate. We will be eagerly awaiting the next book! This review is a double review for both Moonlight Sins and Moonlight Seduction. This series is a perfect mix of books we have loved in the past and we’re excited about where this strange and deceitful journey is taking us.
“He’s never had anyone fight for him the way he has fought for others. I have to ask. Are you going to fight for him..?”
In Moonlight Sin we have Lucian’s story. Lucian is a beautiful troubled soul, the artistic one. The one who quietly suffers and craves normality. Craves love. Whilst he carries a serious façade, he’s a cheeky and arrogant young man who’s as smooth as you like when he wants to be, with spot-on banter. He carries a burden so heavy and has not had it easy yet his heart is open to love which takes him by surprise.
‘There was a buzz in his veins as he stared at her, a heat that was burning him from the inside out. Flames that would engulf him whole, and what a way to burn.’
Julia is one of the good ones. A heart of pure caring gold, she too has not had an easy few years from which she’s had to escape. Packing her job in, she takes a live in job as a nurse caring for a young woman in a psychological coma. On her last night, before the move, she meets a man who sweeps her off of her feet for one night only. Although Julia is a sweet and somewhat innocent girl she went for it and now can’t forget this man…and she won’t have to.
“I can handle your real. I can handle you.”
The connection, attraction and passion between Lucian and Julia was not only intense, it was comforting and of course super flirtatious and hot. In one respect; despite the way they met, it could almost be considered enticingly slow burn whilst drama, murder and mystery entwined itself in their love story. Whilst many secrets were uncovered this vine covered house and family curse that simmers deep is yet to reveal itself.
‘Gabe wasn’t still in love with a woman who didn’t want him. He was in love with a ghost, and no one could compete with that.’
‘She knew she was falling for him. Falling for him again, and this time it would be harder and further before she hit bottom.’
In Moonlight Seduction we have Gabe’s story. He has demons and secrets which coupled with living in the vine covered house of darkness where spine tingling shadows reside makes for a life of not a lot of love and peace. That is until Nikki, ten years his junior is back to take on her Mum’s role as housekeeper whilst she battles cancer. Nikki has had a crush on Gabe for as long as she can remember; a crush all the de Vincents boys are aware of. Nothing’s changed for Nikki except the crush turned into love, but has it got any chance of being reciprocated?
‘His chest hurt like someone had taken a dull knife and carved his heart out. Worse part was that he’d wielded that knife.’
Gabe and Nikki’s relationship is not an easy one, so many discoveries and revelations – not all positive or easy to confront. So much angst, heartbreak, and suffering. All culminates in an arduous romantic journey where the obstacles are both ones you can see as well as ones that come out of left field with tragic repercussions. So much left unsaid and unresolved, however, Jennifer Armentrout wrote with conviction and her strength of characters made it addictive reading.
“All I know is that – fuck, I can’t stop thinking about you. When you’re not right in front of me, I’m wondering where you are and what you’re doing. And when you are near me, it takes literally everything in me to keep my hands off you. I know that I want you more than I ever wanted anyone in my life.”
The character dynamics, the eerie mystery and the simmering tension in a well-paced ongoing story had us hooked in both books. Surprising twists and the well placed revelations; each of the de Vincent books brings new drama, more untimely deaths but ultimately a love that is pure, honest and a much needed light in the darkness and curses. We have to mention that we are so intrigued by Devlin. Whilst he comes across aloof, harsh, cold and somewhat; we have a feeling that within that hard exterior lies a soul that’s fighting to keep continual disaster from touching his loved ones. He reminds us of an arrogant anti-hero that despite of his actions they, in fact, come from a place of worth, responsibility, and protection. But who knows, we could be wrong and can’t wait to find out!
‘What were their nicknames? There were three of them….The nicknames were something morbid and bizarre based on their wild and almost unbelievable behaviour…’
***4.5/5 Stars***
Moonlight Seduction was a whirlwind of emotions and completely addicting! Being back in this world, and falling for a different de Vincent brother made me oh so happy. I loved how mystery weaved into the story and that there was a strong female who I adored. So if you like adult romance that is slow-burn, sexy, will pull at your emotions and is a page turner then you definitely have to give this book a try!
“Nic.”
She stopped. It was like she had no control.
Silence.
Biting down on her lip and telling herself she was probably going to regret this, she slowly faced him.
This time around we got to jump into Gabriel de Vincent's life. He was the middle brother and he definitely had some secrets from his past. And one of them was tied to Nicolette Bresson, aka Nikki. Nikki found herself back in town, and working at the de Vincent's house to fill in for her mom. Her parents had worked for them forever and Nikki had crushed on Gabe when she was younger. Even though he was ten years older than her. They hadn't seen each other in years and something happened that made their friendship explode. I loved how we were given clues about what happened and you could tell that none of their emotions had disappeared. I couldn't wait to see it all play out!
As she left the room, she couldn’t help but notice that Gabe wasn’t grinning as he watched her from under his thick lashes. Oh, no , the man was smiling that smile that had gotten her in trouble all those years ago, and her stupid, stupid reckless heart jumped in her chest.
Again we got to alternate between our two love interests. I liked Nikki right from the start! I loved how she stood up for herself, how strong she was and that she felt like someone who could easily become one of my friends. But Gabe? Sigh, he was a man who was fun to figure out. He could be so harsh to Nikki and then in the next moment he could be playful and charming. I definitely felt lost at times, like Nikki, when Gabe ran hot and cold. But there were these moments where he was protective of her and oh my heart, he was fierce, loyal and sexy!
Placing his hands on either side of her hips, he dipped his chin and suddenly their mouths were lined up. She sucked in a soft breath as her heart threatened to slam its way out of her chest.
“What are you doing?” she whispered.
“About to have an awkward conversation with you again.”
Anytime they were near each other it felt insanely seductive and hot. I loved the sexual tension that simmered between them. But you could tell from the hints that they had a lot to work through from their past. Although there was no denying that eventually they would do more. I mean, just the simplest touch, or even look between them was scorching. And when it moved to more, it was beyond steamy. But there was also heartache, betrayal and tears smudged into the pages and my heart broke for the both of them.
“You tell me to stop and I will.”
Her lips parted. She needed to tell him to stop, because she knew that whatever was happening right now was going to change everything between them, and she knew this time there wouldn’t be any repairing the damage it would wreak on their friendship . . . and possibly her life.
But other things happened to Nikki and Gabe within the pages. There were those lingering, creepy moments where I was left thinking....ghosts? I still wasn't sure, but I knew one thing, I shouldn't have read this book in the dark! I'm a baby lol. And on top of the mysterious moments, I didn't think this book would go so dark. I was shocked, gutted and terrified, so I have to give a trigger warning for an attempted rape. Moonlight Seduction was definitely an emotional book. Or at least it was for me. There was a few moments where I sobbed my eyes out hysterically. It was so easy to become deeply, emotionally connected to these characters.
“I said Saturday night I don’t know what we’re doing, where it’s going to lead.” He turned his head, kissing her inner thigh. The rough skin of his jaw drove her crazy. “That didn’t mean I wasn’t going to travel that road and find out.”
There were lots of fun moments and I loved that Lucian and Julia got to be back in the mix of everything. Lucian is Gabe's brother and was featured in the first book, Moonlight Sins. And while this book could be read as a standalone, I definitely recommend starting with that one. You don't want to miss out on a moment with these charismatic brothers! So yes, I loved how this book wrapped up, but it definitely left me excited for the next one, Moonlight Scandals. It's about Devlin, the oldest de Vincent brother, and I've crowned him King of Assholes lol. I can't wait to get inside his head!
PS I love that Diesel, one of Jen's dogs, got a shout out, awww!
Los padres de Nicolette trabajan en la mansión Vincent, y allí es donde ella creció, se enamoró por primera vez, y le rompieron el corazón. No pensaba tener que volver, pero ahora que su madre está enferma debe sustituirla, aunque eso conlleve volver a cruzarse con Gabe. Piensa que su corazón ya lo ha dejado atrás, pero por mucho que intenta evitarlo, los recuerdos y su presencia hacen que resulte imposible; por su parte, él ha pasado años mortificándose por su último encuentro con Nikki, cuando no se comportó como ella merecía, y ahora que ha vuelto, no consigue mantenerse alejado, a pesar de que hay un peligro que los ronda a ambos, y la terrible maldición De Vincent.
¡Bueno! Sin duda, debo decir que lo he disfrutado bastante más que el primero: en esta ocasión, me he encontrado con unos personajes que me han parecido mejor perfilados y cuya relación tenía más desarrollo, por no hablar del drama de la diferencia de edad y la de vueltas que se le da al tema aunque sepamos desde el minuto uno que van a terminar juntos.
Por su parte, la trama ha sido entretenida e interesante, con ese toque de misterio, al igual que la primera, por todo lo turbio y oscuro que ocurría alrededor de la protagonista, los ataques que sufría, y el sentirse observada... mal rollito, sí, pero me ha mantenido en vilo todo el tiempo, aunque diría que se podría haber resuelto ahorrándose unas cien páginas.
Moonlight Seduction is the second book in Jennifer L. Armentrout’s de Vincent series, and I have very mixed feelings towards this book. I really wanted to enjoy this one, but I just couldn’t bring myself to feel more than mild interest towards it. I finished the book, but it was just to see how everything came together – not because I was truly invested in the story.
I’m now of the solid belief that Jennifer L. Armentrout is not an author for me. I found her Lux series to be addictive, but I was not blown away in the manner most people were. Now I’ve tried something different, contemporary romance through the de Vincent series, I can say my feelings are much the same towards her other work – I can see the appeal, but they are not blowing my mind.
In truth, I was rather excited for this second book. I enjoyed our leading male as a side character in Moonlight Sins, and I was interested to find out more about him. I had high hopes for his story, yet I feel as though the emotion I had expected was rather lacking. My emotions may not have flickered all over the place as they did during Moonlight Sins, but in the end my emotions were much the same – I had expected something much more.
I think my issue is that I do not care for the characters in the way I should. I feel as though the females are weak and the males are lacking in that little something that makes them interesting. It’s the mystery surrounding everything that is interesting me, and even this is not blowing my mind in the way I had hoped. It is there, but it is not given the same level of attention as the romance. It’s too in the background for me to be given the amount of substance I need, and such a thing saddens me as there is such potential.
Despite my feelings towards this one, how I was not given the read I had hoped for, a part of me is still interested in reading the final book. I have questions and I want to see how things come together. By the time the final book in this series is released I may have reached the point where I no longer care – in fact, such seems rather likely, if I’m honest – yet at the moment I am intrigued enough to pick up the final book. I do not have high expectations for it, but I am curious.
Overall, I can understand the appeal of this series, but Jennifer L. Armentrout really does not seem to be an author for me.
This surpassed my expectations. Melt-worthy.
I didn't really enjoy book 1, so it came as a shock when I found that I couldn't put this book down. Nikki and Gabe were just so precious. There were moments that I totally figured out before the time, but I still loved the feel of mystery.
The craziest part is I'm super super excited for the final book. I can't wait to get to Dev's story. I know there must be more to him. I ship him and Rosie so hard. He's so ice cold and she's totally crazy. I can't wait to see what happens with those two.
There is a reason why JLA is my fave, and that's because it is physically impossible for me not to give any book, story, swoon worthy love interest or relatable heroine she writes less than 4 stars. It doesn't even matter what genre it falls in or if it's a story about two potatoes falling in love.
This contemporary-paranormal induced romance is no different. Not only I love the New Orleans setting and the haunted vibe of this series, but de Vincent brothers have me hooked. So much that I am starting right away my earc for book #3. I am a lucky bish.
The jury is still out on which brother is my fave tho.
3,5-4. Me ha gustado, aunque quizá no son mis novelas favoritas de la autora. Los hermanos De Vincent son muy misterios y algo turbios diría yo, aunque también buena gente. Es una relación de diferencia de edad, donde ella es diez años más joven que él, con todo lo que ello comporta. Eso sí, te mantiene enganchada todo el rato, prácticamente me lo he leído en dos sentadas. El misterio que envuelve la casa y la familia me tiene muy intrigada y espero que en el tercer libro se resuelvan algunas incógnitas más ☺️. Nos queda el hermano mayor y me da a mí que el más serio y callado va a ser 🔥🔥🔥.
Get ready to get to back to the deceptive and mysterious De Vincent world. This time we get Gabe story’s and his powerful but denied connection to Nikki. Jennifer really undid herself in this one. The slow build romance will keep you on the edge of your seat and you might feel like throwing the book away from time to time. There’s a definitive attraction between those two but drama keep coming in the way (but hey it’s not a Jen’s book without drama!)
The book was definitely a whirlwind of emotions and kept me on my toe. Nikki is a strong female character and I was glad she wasn’t taking any crap from Gabe. Don’t ask me why but I was expecting Gabe to be the sensible artist unable to act like an ass from time to time…I was wrong! True to be told he’s not in Dev’s category but his hot and cold attitude gave me whiplash a couple of times… but it did serve the story and helped the characters to do some growing up. Let me tell you that everything going on is worth the wait. When these two come crashing together it’s hot, raw and explosive. I loved the fact that they had a complicated background story, it gave more depth to their storyline. Because of that, the slow build between them felt more real.
As for the mystery it’s still on. I can’t wait to get my answers about the De Vincent patriarch suicide (or is it murder?!) And is the family really cursed or is it someone working in the background to destroy them? We will have to wait to the third book to get answers, but I have no doubt it will be worth the wait. If you haven’t pick up this series yet what are you waiting for? Go for it, you’re in for one hell of a ride!
Armentrout writing sizzles in the second installment of the de Vincent series. Nicolette’s and Gabriel’s chemistry are explosive, now they just have to realize they are perfect for each other … and that is where all the fun comes in.
Events surrounding the de Vincent family are unusual if not down right dangerous. Nicolette has managed to keep her distance from the de Vincent’s, specifically Gabe, for the years she’s spent in college. But now she’s back to help work for the de Vincent family while her mom goes through chemo treatments.
Something nefarious is always going on in the de Vincent home. Can Gabe come to his senses before its to late for Nic? You’ll have to pick up this very steamy read to find out.
Moonlight Seduction was one suspense-filled thrill ride with a pretty big cliffhanger at the end.
Well, Gabe was one of the main things I liked about the first book, so I was really excited to see he was getting a story and yet, I’m fairly disappointed.
I liked Nikki and Gabe well enough. She’s smart and sassy and loyal. He’s got a lot of potential, but since he’s used to getting everything he wants, he comes across as a jackass most of the time. The growth of their relationship didn’t ring true to me: she was still a smitten teenager and he was still a jackass. However, can we please get 100 more pages of Rosie? She was fantastic.
Plot wise, it was a lot of drama filled push and pull. There were an abnormal amount of references to Gabe’s bare feet. The build up was quite slow and it felt like the story wasn’t going anywhere, but eventually there were a couple of reveals that did redeem the story a bit and not make this a 2 star read.
Overall, this was fairly lackluster to me. It’s only because of those things that I will be reading the next book.
FYI: there are several scenes of forceful unwanted groping and super gross leering. There is also a scene of an attempted rape, but she gets away.
**Huge thanks to Avon Books for providing the arc free of charge**
A highly enjoyable suspenseful romance filled with mystery and intrigue! This is Gabe's story and he is the middle de Vincent brother and I actually preferred this one to the first book.
Nic's parents are the long time housekeeper and butler for the de Vincent home. She grew up with them and so she is fully aware of the weird and mysterious things that occur in the house and the suspected curse on the family. As a girl, she has had a long time crush on Gabe who is 10 years her senior and ultimately had her heart broken. Years later, she has now moved back home after college and has taken to helping her parents with the keeping of the house as her mother has been diagnosed with cancer.
Gabe and Nic are more than scorching hot together. This is definitely adult fiction with very explicit scenes. There are so many reasons they shouldn't be together. Gabe has recently received life altering news and he is not sure how Nic will feel about this revelation. There is also the fact that she is a bit of forbidden fruit with their age difference and the daughter of the housestaff. Nic is not sure of Gabe's intentions and thinks he is probably just in lust, not love and so she holds back from him to protect her heart.
There is no shortage of suspense in this book and towards the end we get some action too. Nic has had a few strange "accidents" and she also has the feeling of someone always watching her. I wasn't surprised when answers are revealed, you definitely see it coming but it was still quite entertaining.
Gabe was frustrating at times because it took him so long to get it together. He would purposely hurt Nic to push her away. He did it to protect her and also because he thought she deserved better but he really never figured it out till almost the end of the book. I loved him so much though! He is known as the nicer, tamer de Vincent brother. While this is true, when it came to protecting Nic, he didn't hesitate to jump into scary overprotective mode. Alpha male hotness at its finest!
We get most questions answered in this book but there are still a few loose ends. So I'm hoping the last de Vincent brother, Devin's story is coming soon. I highly recommend this series if you are looking for a sexy read with a mystery infused storyline.
Nikki nunca pensó volvería a ver al hombre que le rompió el corazón, Gabriel de Vincent, y menos que regresaría a la mansión donde han trabajado sus padres a lo largo de toda su vida y donde ella pasó sus vacaciones. No obstante, debido a la enfermedad de su madre durante unos meses la sustituirá. Nikki tiene la intención de no encontrarse con Gabe pero aunque la mansión es enorme el destino hará que sus caminos se crucen de nuevo 🥰
Es una novela que desprende misterio y secretos, seguimos con el halo de intriga que engloba a la mansión y su maldición. En esta ocasión, estamos ante una historia de reencuentro donde los protagonistas después de años sin verse se vuelven a encontrar. En este libro como el anterior casi desde el principio tiene suspense y suceden cosas extrañas que te mantienen atrapada. El libro consta de 413 páginas con un prólogo y 35 capítulos, estos son de una extensión normal. Es una lectura que después de leer el final del primer libro de la serie te apetece adentrarte en este. Asimismo, se lee muy rápido y tiene un ritmo muy ágil ✨
Al terminar el primer libro tenía muchas ganas de ponerme con este porque las pequeñas pinceladas que se dan sobre Gabe te deja con ganas de conocer su historia. Ha sido una historia que me ha gustado aunque debo reconocer que el primero me gusto más pero bueno, ha sido una lectura con un toque de suspense, misterio y pasión que me ha tenido enganchada. Y bueno, debo decir que me muero por leer el tercero porque Dev me tiene muy muy intrigada. Gabe y Nikki ha sido una pareja que desde el principio se ve la gran química que tienen🔥Si os apetece leer una novela con suspense y un romance que nació en el pasado, y con una mucha química entre los protagonistas tenéis que leer la historia de Nikki y Gabe ❤️
"Seducción a la luz de la luna" es la segunda entrega de la serie Los hermanos de Vincent. Una novela con mucho misterio, secretos y un romance con una buena química entre los protagonistas . Una lectura muy amena que cuenta con un toque paranormal 🔥🌑💖
3 STARS!
A slow burning romance, Moonlight Seduction was intriguing and suspensful with unforgettable secondary characters!
I found myself drawn more to the characters in the background at times with all the back and forth, will Gabe, won't Gabe and his douchebag ways. Then we have Nikki. She's sweet and feisty, yet a bit naive at times. Especially when it comes to Gabe. She's totally smitten with him, but at the same time she also fights and puts him in his place. Their relationship has never been an easy one, but a friendship of sorts is slowly formed and not long after it escalates into something more. Even with all the obstacles standing in Gabe and Nikki's way, the attraction between them is strong, constantly pulling them together and it's passionate and so sensual you can't help but to be drawn under the spell of it.
Moonlight Seduction is not only filled with a lot of angst and heartbreak that tugs at your heart strings, but suspense and danger. Secrets, deception, and drama seem to always follow this notorious family while enemies lurk in every corner... You'll be at the edge of your seat wanting more!
4 stars!
The second book in the de Vincente series, this is the story of middle de Vincent son, Gabriel, and, in a delicious set-up, the daughter of the family’s long-time housekeepers, Nikki.
You can read this one as a standalone as there is a good recap given, but beware that this book contains massive spoilers for the first one so if you’re planning on reading them all – do it in order.
Nikki fell for playboy Gabe as a teenager. He is ten years older that her, but that didn’t stop her from following him around, dreamily watching him and wishing that he would see her as something more than a little sister. When Nikki was 18, Gabe broke her heart and she left the de Vincente house without turning back. Now four years later, her mother is unwell and she is back to temporarily fill her place, working in the house where she practically grew up, and doing her best to avoid Gabe. But he has no intention of staying away.
I don’t want to go into a lot of detail with this review, because there are secrets, twists and turns, and you just need to dive on in and experience it, but I loved this story. Gabe and Nikki have a fantastic chemistry that has come from years of friendship and a whole lot of hidden attraction, and the sexual tension sizzles.
Nikki is a great heroine, smart and sweet, with a feistiness that makes her entertaining to read. And Gabe is an absolute sweetheart. Together they are a bit of a mess, incredibly drawn to each other yet confused by all that they are feeling, but the push and pull is really well written into a reunited-friends-to-lovers slow burn as they figure it all out, and I loved watching their inevitable fall for each other that was hot, sweet and swoony.
“I love you, Nic.” … “And if you don’t love me anymore, I’m going to spend however long it takes making you fall in love with me again.”
Following on from the previous book, there is a bit of a mystery and some nastiness that comes with who the de Vincente family are, their history, their wealth and celebrity, and the supposed ‘curse’ upon them. It adds a bit of a creepy undertone to the book, and it’s tied into the romance and the family’s story really well to create a romantic, mysterious and intriguing read.
I really enjoyed this book. Although I felt it dragged a bit at times, I remained engaged, wanting to know what was going to happen. I loved Nikki and Gabe together, and I loved the involvement of Gabe’s brothers. Lucian and Julia from the first book are a part of the story, as is older brother, Devlin, and I loved the snarky, banter-filled bond between them all. Devlin’s story is set up nicely, and I can’t wait to dive into that one up next.
4 stars.
4 – 4.25 Audio Stars
I love this series. I loved the first book and I was excited for the second book. This will be Nicolette and Gabriel’s story. You will have to read the books in order to understand what is going on, plus there’s a lot of character development and story building so it’s just in your best interest to read them in order.
Having read one book and listened to another book, I will say this, the audio version is way awesome. You can’t go wrong with Erin Mallon’s voice. I do admit she does a lot of audio books so sometimes I do need a break from her, but when I go back and listen to her, it’s like listening to happiness. Joe Arden has a strong male voice, but I think he pauses a bit too much. Personally I like a narrator that reads quickly, but that’s just me. He’s not my favorite, but he didn’t hinder my listening experience.
I feel like Moonlight Seduction read differently. First off, it’s not that mysterious, okay it’s somewhat mysterious (and that is what I love about this series) but I didn’t feel like that was the focal point of the book. I felt like Nikki and Gabe’s relationship was the main deal in the book.
I liked Gabe in the first book. He’s the nice brother right? I was itching for his story. I mean, did he get his ex-girlfriend pregnant? It was hinted a little bit from the first book. Was his ex-girlfriend dying? A lot of questions came to mind after I read the first book.
In this book, I wasn’t so much a fan of Gabe. I liked him, but he wouldn’t be my favorite Hero. I have issues with Heroes that are still hung up on their ex-girlfriends. I wouldn’t say Gabe was still in love with her, but she was the issue of the book and she wasn’t even in the book.
I love Nicolette and you kind of want to root for the underdog. Gah, the mean things the brothers do and you just want her to own her place ya know? It was sad to read the flashbacks and see how much she was in love with Gabe and oh my goodness their history!
The main thing that got me sucked into the storyline was the history between Gabe and Nikki, it’s epic, kind of sad, and there’s a lot to work though. On top of that, someone is after Nikki and you are questioning everyone. I kind of liked the side storyline of who is after Nikki.
Gabe and Nikki’s relationship was tough to read, but also addicting to read. You want to root for them, but they have a lot of baggage to go through.
So, like I said, it’s a little different from the first book. More on the angst and tortured, then the mystery.
To disclaim – I received a print copy by the publisher, but I decided to do an audio review instead. Because audio is my jam!
Characters & Chemistry
Nicolette Bresson never thought that she would ever return to the de Vincent mansion. But after finishing college and due to her mother being ill, she has taken over the house keeping responsibilities. At the same time, she is trying to figure out what she wants to do now, and she has some issues with her past to work through.
I liked Nikki and although she stood up for herself when it came to what she wanted sometimes it just a little too late. I wouldn’t have been that forgiving towards Gabe but hey you know, I’m mean, *lol* Nikki is strong and a fighter.
Gabe de Vincent is the middle brother and apparently the level headed one *cough* so not true especially when it comes to Nikki. In book 1 he gets thrown a curve ball and he is dealing with it the best that he can, but he does f$ckup more than once. Some are justified some are him just being really dense.
I really liked Gabe, he is strong, giving and caring when he lets himself be that person but at times, he also had the weight of the world dragging him down. Due to his past he is unsure of what will happen and well as I said he was dense but, in my eyes,, he did redeem himself.
The sexual chemistry between these two is off the charts back when he took Nikki’s virginity and now when they get back together. Emotionally they both had things to work through for themselves and on a personal level.
Writing, Plot & Pace
The writing is solid, and the author knows how to captivate and pull you in. This is a book I could have read in one sitting. That alone speaks for itself.
The plot is just as good as book 1 although it was clear from the beginning who was involved and to what extent they went to get what they wanted. The women of the family either turn up dead or turn batshit crazy. There are secrets, lies and unburied truths.
The de Vincent mansion still offers a gothic vibe but not as much as book 1.
The pace was somewhat slow with the suspense surrounding Gabe & Nikki at times it felt as if the author forgot the suspense at vital points in the book and then suddenly bam there it is and then it ebbs again.
The Verdict
I enjoyed this a lot more than book 1 and I would recommend this series. I am actually looking forward to Dev douchecanoe de Vincent.
What comes next aren't really spoilers it's just sloppy workmanship IMO.
SPOILER FREE – TWO BOOK REVIEW
“Makes you wonder if the de Vincent curse is real, doesn’t it?” Two things happened to the de Vincent women. They either end up…unstable. Or dead.”
We’re loving this series; it’s like an epic dark family drama with copious secrets, deceptions and an awful lot of evil minded scheming. We’re still completely in the dark where this series is going and have no idea what lies behind it all. Fabulously thrilling, suspenseful, angsty and dramatic. Extremely sexy and passionate. We will be eagerly awaiting the next book! This review is a double review for both Moonlight Sins and Moonlight Seduction. This series is a perfect mix of books we have loved in the past and we’re excited for where this strange and deceitful journey is taking us.
“He’s never had anyone fight for him the way he has fought for others. I have to ask. Are you going to fight for him..?”
In Moonlight Sin we have Lucian’s story. Lucian is a beautiful troubled soul, the artistic one. The one who quietly suffers and craves normality. Craves love. Whilst he carries a serious façade, he’s a cheeky and arrogant young man who’s as smooth as you like when he wants to be, with spot on banter. He carries a burden so heavy and has not had it easy yet his heart is open to love which takes him by surprise.
‘There was a buzz in his veins as he stared at her, a heat that was burning him from the inside out. Flames that would engulf him whole, and what a way to burn.
Julia is one of the good ones. A heart of pure caring gold, she too has not had an easy few years from which she’s had to escape. Packing her job in, she takes a live in job as a nurse caring for a young woman in a psychological coma. On her last night, before the move, she meets a man who sweeps her off of her feet for one night only. Although Julia is a sweet and somewhat innocent girl she went for it and now can’t forget this man…and she won’t have to.
“I can handle your real. I can handle you.”
The connection, attraction and passion between Lucian and Julia was not only intense, it was comforting and of course super flirtatious and hot. In one respect; despite the way they met, it could almost be considered enticingly slow burn whilst drama, murder and mystery entwined itself in their love story. Whilst many secrets were uncovered this vine covered house and family curse that simmers deep is yet to reveal itself.
‘Gabe wasn’t still in love with a woman who didn’t want him. He was in love with a ghost, and no one could compete with that.’
‘She knew she was falling for him. Falling for him again, and this time it would be harder and further before she hit bottom.’
In Moonlight Seduction we have Gabe’s story. He has demons and secrets which coupled with living in the vine covered house of darkness where spine tingling shadows reside makes for a life of not a lot of love and peace. That is until Nikki, ten years his junior is back to take on her Mum’s role as housekeeper whilst she battles cancer. Nikki has had a crush on Gabe for as long as she can remember; a crush all the de Vincents boys are aware of. Nothing’s changed for Nikki except the crush turned into love, but has it got any chance of being reciprocated?
‘His chest hurt like someone had taken a dull knife and carved his heart out. Worse part was that he’d wielded that knife.’
Gabe and Nikki’s relationship is not an easy one, so many discoveries and revelations – not all positive or easy to confront. So much angst, heartbreak and suffering. All culminates in an arduous romantic journey where the obstacles are both ones you can see as well as ones that come out of left field with tragic repercussions. So much left unsaid and unresolved, however Jennifer Armentrout wrote with conviction and her strength of characters made it addictive reading.
“All I know is that – fuck, I can’t stop thinking about you. When you’re not right in front of me, I’m wondering where you are and what you’re doing. And when you are near me, it takes literally everything in me to keep my hands off you. I know that I want you more than I ever wanted anyone in my life.”
The character dynamics, the eerie mystery and the simmering tension in a well-paced ongoing story had us hooked in both books. Surprising twists and the well placed revelations; each of the de Vincent book brings new drama, more untimely deaths but ultimately a love that is pure, honest and a much needed light in the darkness and curses. We have to mention that we are so intrigued by Devlin. Whilst he comes across aloof, harsh, cold and somewhat; we have a feeling that within that hard exterior lies a soul that’s fighting to keep continual disaster from touching his loved ones. He reminds us of an arrogant anti-hero that despite of his actions they in fact come from a place of worth, responsibility and protection. But who knows, we could be wrong and can’t wait to find out!
‘What were their nicknames? There were three of them….The nicknames were something morbid and bizarre based on their wild and almost unbelievable behaviour…’
Lucifer
Demon
Devil
