Bad Princess

Notorious for leaping off roofs, maiming foreign royals, and that twerking incident, Brinley Cantrella of Estau is nobody’s definition of a good princess. She’s fearless and bold, not good and gracious. And after a lifetime of being told she’s unfit to be queen, wearing the crown and helping to usher Estau into a new era is the one dream she’s never dared chase.

But when her older sister abdicates the throne, all Brinley has to do to inherit the role is not twerk, not maim anybody, and definitely not get caught fooling around topless with Prince Finn, her childhood crush, the only man she’s ever loved… and her sister’s former future husband.

Finn embodies the definition of good. Tall and handsome, serious and honorable, he always does the right thing — including agreeing to marry his ex’s sister to cover up this latest scandal. Brinley has fallen down stairs, broken teeth and broken bones, but this is the first time her heart has ever been broken. She now has the crown and the prince, and on the surface, life is good — but is being married to a man everyone swears could never love her back good enough?

➦This was actually a pretty enjoyable read. Being a 3rd person POV, it actually read really well. One thing I was surprised to learn that this is a NOVELLA. Let me tell you, some of the contemporary romances out there that call themselves full length novels are not much longer than this. Just felt like a short novel to me.

➦If you like romance stories about royals then you might enjoy this book. It's pretty fast paced and I certainly got some feels from it. So, all things considering, pretty awesome. I do think, however, that if you're going to write a story about a fictional world, there needs to be more world building. But whatevz.

➦Badass cover. Me like. Bad princess wasn't even that bad. Ok, no, she kind of was. Anywhooooo. A marriage arrangement trope with a prince and a princess who might or might not have had the hots for each other since childhood. If that sounds appealing then go for it! :)

4.5 “Brinley Cantrella may have been a bad princess, but she was quite good at it,” Stars!

Brinley Cantrella has always been the “bad Princess”. Always failing to meet the expectations set for her, so everyone just stopped expecting anything but bad. That is until Brinley’s sister, perfect Princess, Elle does the last thing anyone expects and leaves. She runs away from the life she’d been so perfect for. This leaves Brinley as the only princess from her kingdom to once again meet the expecatations. Elle was meant to marry a prince from another kingdom, and now that is Brinley’s duty. Can the bad Princess be good enough for the perfect prince?

I actually ended up loving this story. It does start off a bit slowly, but it is world building. Which I felt was necessary, but it did feel a bit slow. Brinley was actually very likable. It was very easy to sympathize with her, and I was annoyed much of the time with the people who were so cruel to her for just being herself. I don’t want to say much, but I ended up loving prince Finian. I was unsure about him for awhile, but his layer of frost started to melt and he was likable as well. Why did I take away .5 if I loved this so much. Mainly because the pacing and the timeline were a bit odd at times, but that is really it. Kind of petty things when it comes to a novella.

Bad Princess is sweet, sexy, light, and fun. It almost feels like a more adult take on a Disney Princess story. There is a duty to be fulfilled, but the princess is sassy and strong and does it her own way. Add in a healthy dash of smut, and this is grown up Disney for the win!

Summary (from Goodreads):

And after a lifetime of being told she’s unfit to be queen, wearing the crown and helping to usher Estau into a new era is the one dream she’s never dared chase.

She now has the crown and the prince, and on the surface, life is good—but is being married to a man everyone swears could never love her back good enough?

Approximately 39,500 words.

What I Liked:

Bad Princess is the seventh story of Julianna Keyes' that I have read. Since reading Time Served (one of her adult romances), I've yet to be disappointed. While I think her best adult and New Adult novels were Time Served and Undecided, Bad Princess is a fun, sexy novella that I enjoyed immensely. It is a departure from her other works but it has the same emotional depth and heat factor that one might begin to expect from her stories.

This novella starts with Princess Brinley's older sister Elle already having abdicated the throne. Rumor has it that she ran off with a sexy lumberjack to an unnamed island in the South Pacific. So, our story starts with Brinley and her parents (king and queen) having a meeting with King Edric of the neighboring country, and his second son Finian. Then comes a compromising set of photos and... Finn and Brinley find themselves married. Brinley has been in love with Finn since she was five years old, but she knew he was meant for her older sister. Now they're married and she wants nothing more than for him to want her for her, and not for duty or treaties or honor. The proper, golden-boy prince and the bad princess - who would have thought?

Brinley is such a fun character to follow and an easy one to like. This entire novella is written from her POV (which at first I found sad, because I sooo wanted Finn's POV too). Brinley likes to live life on her terms, and doesn't care for the stuffy, boring lifestyle that her sister lives - Finn as well. Her sister abdicating the throne is quite possibly the worst thing to happen to Brinley. Now she is confined to being the next queen - and marrying her sister's intended.

Finn is proper and stoic and full of honor and duty, the golden boy and the "good prince", a perfect opposite of Brinley. He seems boring and not lively, but he has so many adoring fans. Everyone loves his perfection and his no-nonsense non-rule-breaking ways, so unlike Brinley. I liked Finn despite his stuffiness, because all of the granite exterior had to crack at some point.

These two have serious chemistry! You would think, with this story being a novella's length, that the chemistry would be rushed and the romance would be clobbered together, or something like that. But no, the chemistry and the tension were built up and made for some very steamy times. His Royal Stuffiness is really not so stuffy in some ways... as Brinley finds out.

The romance was cute too. Finn was always careful and considerate of Brinley, and Brinley, well, she had always loved him, but she wanted him to want her for her. These two navigate life as a married couple with as many obstacles as one might expect from a couple pushed together via arranged marriage. They were cute to watch though.

A note about the setting - this book is set during modern times, but of course it deals heavily with royalty. Think Prince William and Princess Kate, but with the royalty actually being the government, and not figureheads.

All in all, this was a great novella with a very happy ending. Of course, as with all novellas, I wish there was more, but this story felt complete and satisfying on its own.

What I Did Not Like:

Nothing specific! This is a quick, fun read. The only thing that might have made this better was dual POV featuring Finn, but the story was just fine with only Brinley's first-person POV.

Would I Recommend It:

Usually I'm not one for contemporary stories involving royalty as a protagonist (or both protagonists) - I like fantasy involving royalty just fine though - but Bad Princess was definitely a great read for me! A fun heroine, brooding hero, sweet romance, sexy sexy chemistry... there is a lot to love about this story. And it's a novella so it's a quick, satisfying read!

Rating:

4 stars. I have yet to be disappointed by Keyes' stories and I hope that won't change! I know this is a standalone novella but it would be so cool to see more from this couple or from this world. In any case, I'm always looking forward to reading more by this author!

Story ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
A really fast paced story with many ups and downs. A really nice and fast read!

Characters ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Brinley was such a cool badass. 😎
She was always doing what she thought was right, even when they told her she was the bad princess.
👸🏻
Sometimes she was so relatable. I really liked her!
And Finn was a handsome prince who showed his true character at the end. But throughout the story I always had doubts about him.
🤴🏻

Relationships ⭐️⭐️⭐️
The relationship between Finn and Brinley was like a rollercoaster with a lot of sexual tension.
In some way it was this typical lovestory, with a few fun surprises.
👸🏻🤴🏻♥️

Writing style ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The author writes in a funny, enjoyable way. I really enjoyed this story!

Brinley might be a princess, complete with her own castle but her life is far from a fairy tale. Always second best to her older sister and with years of media scrutiny reminding her why she would never be a good ruler, Brinley has finally accepted her role in life.

But when her perfect sister up and abdicates the throne to run off with a commoner, Brinley's world is tilted on its axis. But Elle didn't just leave her royal responsibilities and duties behind, she also left her royal fiancé behind.

Finian Bellamy is as perfect as any Prince Charming could be and Brinley has been secretly in love with him for years. When she finds herself alone with him for the first time there is an unmistakable pull between them that proves irresistible. Its just her misfortune to finally give in to her desire for Fin only to get caught in a compromising position with him and again having her life completely turned upside down. To stop the media firestorm, she finds herself maneuvered into a marriage of convenience to a man she loves but fears only sees her as a duty to endure.

What I loved about it:
I loved Brinley, she wasn't perfect but she was someone you could relate to. She had an uphill battle when it came to living in her sister's shadow but she was up for the challenge and I loved that she didn't back down when she finally came to her senses and stood up for herself. Even against Fin, she didn't compromise and fought for her due.

I loved Fin. He was more like Brinley then even he thought. He had his own insecurities to deal with and I liked that we saw a budding friendship grow between him and Brinley. It wasn't just lust between them. It was more of a kindred relationship that really worked for their romance. The fact that they both had to come to terms with who they really are and learning to love that person wholeheartedly was the cherry on top.

I don't usually like single POVs and even though I would have loved getting inside Fin's head and getting a first hand look at what he was thinking and feel during some pivotal moments in the story, the fact that we only get Brinley's didn't stop me from being 100% engrossed in their love story. I loved it and would highly recommend.

Memorable Moments:
1. When Fin admits he didn't marry Brinley out of misguided duty but because he wanted her. Just her. *queue the emotional goosebumps!*
"I want you."
In all her life, Brinley had never heard those three words followed by a period.
I want you to behave. I want you to smile. I want you to tell me where you have hidden your sword. Again.
But never simply, I want you.

2. Brinley seeing Fin struggling to mold himself into what others wanted him to be. The first time she realizes they are different but the same.
She pictured him as a bird, sitting in a cage, wings folded, patient. She pictured herself as that same bird, free but not. She didn't know which was worse. To not know you wanted freedom at all or to be so desperate for it that you injured yourself constantly in it's pursuit.

Recommended: I highly recommend. Although the blurb hints at some angst, it isn't caused by a love triangle and there is no catty sisterly rivalry. It's a safe romance with a cute love story and plenty of spice and humor sprinkled in to keep things interesting!

This was a cute although short story that made me want more. I kept looking at how much time I had left on my kindle and tried to slow down my reading to enjoy every second. Julianna Keyes created such fun loving characters in Bad Princess.

Brinley is the "bad princess"—always making mistakes, always in the spotlight for doing the wrong thing. In reality, she is living life and truly enjoying it. I loved her—she made me laugh, she made me smile and I enjoyed her character not being the normal princess but someone who lived for herself.

Brinley finds herself in a predicament when it is announced her sister has abdicated the throne and left her fiancé Prince Finn behind. On the night that Prince Finn is to find out at a dinner at her house, tourists touring the castle find her and Prince Finn in a compromising position. To save face, Brinley and Finn are married the next day.

But what of love? What of romance? What of the fairytale that you see when you look at real life royalty (i.e. Prince William and Princess Kate)?

Well this story was that and more... because you see... behind the always stoic Prince and "bad" Princess Brinley is not obligation but:
- fun bantering where she does not realize if he is joking or not (this made me smile)
- real admiration for Brinley's character, courage, and gumption
- and a love so perfect and pure that it made my heart so happy

And while I thought the writing was spot on, and the story so engaging that I couldn't put it down for one second... I just wanted MORE STORY which is why this is rated as 4 stars instead of 5... If we could have had more time with them, more back story, more of a look into the life of royalty and even more of the "after", this would have been a solid 5 star read for me.

One of my favorite tropes to read about is Royalty fiction. I guess this could stem from my love of Disney Princesses and movies starring Prince and Princesses like The Prince and Me. In Julianna Keyes's new book Bad Princess, we are introduced to Brinley who is the second daughter of the current King and Queen of Estau. Brinley as a second child was always the one to get into mischief; she was the crazy one who always wanted to live her life to the full and had no inhibitions. She was confident and loved to have fun. She was also never to be Queen, that responsibility was to go to her older sister, but things changed when her sister – Miss Perfect abdicated the throne and ran off with her lumberjack hacking boyfriend to live in the South Pacific. Now Brinley is being married to Finn – this would be ok as Brinley has always had a crush on him, but she doesn’t want to be his second choice and have him forced to marry her especially if he doesn’t love her. What Brinley doesn’t realize though is that Finn too has always loved Brinley and would do anything for her? When Brinley’s sister shows up, Brinley has a decision to make – will she stay married to Finn and be the next ruler of Estau or will she run away and join her sister away from the kingdom? Find out in this awesome royalty romance – Bad Princess by Julianna Keyes.

This was a cute short book with a nice change in storyline. Two modern day princesses, one destined to become Queen and the younger, Brinley, a menace to society. Well, not really. But she always found herself in the worst situations and of course it was always caught on camera and published all over the news. I know my jaw dropped at the endings of a few paragraphs and I loved that! Some funny stuff!

But when her sister runs from her duties and leaves the prince who was picked for her husband, it's Brinley's time to step up, including inheriting the husband!

Like I said, loved the storyline and change of pace!

I received an ARC of this book through NetGalley for any honest review.

Julianna Keyes sneaked her way into the list of my must-read contemporary authors. While not all her books are my favorites, she writes nice stories about somewhat different characters.

Bad Princess is a novella that will leave you wishing it was a full book. The MCs are both intriguing and I wish that all the events from their childhood and youth we witnessed instead of hearing them just mentioned in passing.

Recommended. Fun, short and hoooot. :)

A cute story that had more substance in the plot and character department than most full length books have all in all.

Bad Princess is another hit from Ms. Julianna Keyes! It's a fun and breezy story full of barely suppressed chuckles and red-cheeked steaminess. As with all her previous works I've read I enjoyed Bad Princess very much.

Ms. Keye's writing always draws me into her stories. Her words flow so smoothly it was easy to get swiped up into a royal disposition and the castle setting. With the exception of the protagonists I kind of hated all the other characters. Their snobby and selfish behaviour grated on my nerves. Hallelujah we have the bad princess to set them in their places.

I am a fan of Brinley Cantrella of Estau. She's an amazing woman- unafraid to seize her life and live in the now. Even when faced with animosity she stood straight to receive all the ugly words. Brinley is one of the bravest ladies and I hardcore rooted for her successes.

Finn and Brinley may have seemed like total opposites but they were actually a great match. Her unapologetic attitude was the absolute complement to his cool demeanor. I loved seeing their personal feelings slowly come to light. Every interaction was a forward step on the path to their very own happily ever after. The bad princess and her perfect prince deserve to be happy.

Given that this is a novella I can see why a few minor things weren't addressed. Some closure would've been nice but honestly I kind of like the open ending. Maybe it was done on purpose so there may be more story in the future? You'll hear no objections from me ;)

A cute, short story by an author I enjoy reading. Rather unrealistic; but as a modern day fairy tale, realism is not the point. This is the kind of fun novella where you just go with the flow, and see where it takes you. Left me with a smile...

4.5 stars -- I received a free copy through NetGalley in exchange for an honest and unbiased review/opinion.

You guys...YOU GUYS.  I am in fucking love.  And I'm going to have to bleep that for Amazon.  But seriously, this was a LENORE book through and through.  And it was all Brinley!  OK, not all Brinley, Finian's kind of da bomb as well...I'll get to him.  But Brinley...oh Brinley.  She has made my girl crush list!!!!  And if you know me, that happens fairly infrequently.  But I was enamoured with her from practically the first page.  She made me laugh, she made my heart hurt, she was just everything I love in a heroine.  I was trying to tell my hubby about this book, and loving Brinley, and he was like "well yeah, she's exactly your type of girl.  She sounds like Rapunzel from Tangled."  Huh.  You know, he's kind of right.  The stories of her misadventures when she was a child were just adorable...she sounded mischievous and incorrigible.  And it carried into who she was when we met her.  She was so true to herself, despite how often others tried to beat her down.  She was sassy, and bold, and hilarious, and curious, and just...AHHH!!  LOVE HER!

And Finn!!  I felt like I understood exactly who he was and how he felt right at the beginning, even if it wasn't overt...  But he still surprised me along the way.  And for a book entirely from the heroine's POV, I still felt like I got to know him.  Maybe it's that we see the contrast between them, and how this royal life had very different effects on each of them.  But there was still a spark in him.  And he had shades of beta boy in him!  He was quiet to her bold.  But he was still strong, and he knew how to support a strong woman like Brinley.  And holy fuck was he hot.  Those kisses (and more) got me all fluttery.  He wasn't perfect, by any means...there were times I wanted to smack him.  But the way its written, I got to understand why he made certain mistakes and bad choices, and I believed in his growth.  I love him too.

For a novella, this book sucked me in hardcore and really made me feel for its characters.  I LOVE when I feel like I can get to know them so quickly, and I become invested in the story.  I saw other reviewers say they couldn't, so I don't know why it was different for me...but it definitely was.  I rooted for Brinley, I was invested in what would happen to her, I was completely all in on the romance, it was just perfect for me.

Honestly, the only reason it's not a full 5 star is because I loved it so much, I wanted more.  I could have continued reading about these two characters until they grew old and died.  I'm fully serious.  This is my first book from Ms. Keyes, but it certainly won't be my last if this is anything to go by.  Also?  As a side shoutout, there was a romantic/erotic trope gender swap ("Finn, come") that had me laughing my ass off.  I'm not sure if it was supposed to be funny, but I don't even care...props Ms. Keyes.

I have been a longtime uber-fan of Julianna Keyes and legit flip out when I see she has something new coming out! She has such an amazing ability to combine heart, humor and heat in her books topped with hot heroes and sarcastic and sassy AF heroines. So it came as no surprise that the minute I read the blurb for Bad Princess my grabby hand syndrome kicked in and I NEEDED it. Gahh I absolutely FLOVED this book. Finian and Brinley were such a perfect match. I honestly could not get enough.

Known as the troublemaker in the royal family, when Brinley is suddenly decreed as the next in line to inherit the throne of the Kingdom of Estau, all she has to do is behave and not get caught in a public scandal. Easy peasy right? Uhh. Try again. But the one guy there to keep her grounded and make her feel like everything is ok is her sister's ex intended (now her husband) and all around nice guy. But what happens when lines are crossed and real feelings develop. Can these true opposites come together or is she too wild for him?

I really enjoyed this novella. It was sweet and sassy and satisfying. I loved the hidden facets in Finn and seeing Brinley unearth his emotions and feelings behind his usual formal and stoic wall. I thought he was absolutely adorable and the perfect man to understand Brinley's personality and who she really was. I can't wait for the next book by this author! Bravo! 4 stars! ~Ratula

This book took me by complete surprise. I went into it knowing nothing and came out impressed.

This is a NA book so if you don't like reading explicit sex scenes maybe this isn't the book for you. This is a story that reminds me of one of my favorite movies ever, The Princess diaries: Royal engament. The premise is that there is a princess that when found in an compromising situation with the prince of neighboring kingdom is forced to wed him. And so a beautiful romance begins. I love the passion the share and how they show their feelings with actions instead of words. FYI the sex was hot (It's always the quiet ones).

I loved the main charcter. She isn't the picture perfect princess but she wants the throne even if her parents see her as unfit. I love that she was strong while also dealing with her cold parents and the bad reputation the follows her. She figures out want she wants and strives to get it. I love that about her.
Finn was a great companion for her. He was an adorable cinnamon roll who wears quirky socks under all his princely outfits and who supports Brinley in everything. I really enjoyed this book. I highly recommend you guys to check it out!

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC of this book! Thoughts and opinions are my own and where not influenced in anyway.

“For once, Brinley was speechless. Finian of Lenora was not known to be a liar, but it was impossible to believe what she was hearing. That he would want this — want her — even without the pressing circumstances surrounding the situation, was beyond comprehension.”

This book is set during modern times, but it deals heavily with royalty.
This is a quick, fun read.

I’m always impressed by Julianna Keyes’ versatility as an author. She’s sort of a fearless author as she’s not afraid to try out new things with her books, and I like that a lot about her. Bad Princess, might just be a novella, but it’s an engrossing and satisfying story from start to finish. We’re introduced to Brinley, whose sister has just abdicated the crown as a result of which she has to take on her sister’s responsibilities. Growing up, she has always been second best to her sister, and rebelled a little because of that. As a result she’s gained the reputation of being a bad girl who makes one poor choice after the other. She’s a very easy character to sympathize with it because despite her reputation, she’s a young woman with her heart in the right place. We get to see her grow a lot more confident with who she is as the story progresses, and one of the best parts of this novella was when she finally learns to stand up for herself. I was a bit unsure about how the relationship between Brinley and Fin would develop, since Fin was her sister’s intended, but it was done well. Brinley has always had a crush on Fin, that was obvious, but Fin and his feelings were a little more hidden. He’s very quiet and intense, but his true emotions do emerge as Bad Princess progressed. I loved seeing them fall for each other, and the chemistry between the two was fantastic. There’s always the possibility that a book featuring royalty falls into the cheesy territory, but Julianna Keyes steers clear of that here. All in all, this novella was very enjoyable, and I recommend it if you’re looking for something romantic and sexy.

After a long workday and crazy night, I prepared for a few hours of brain candy. I went into this wanting and expecting a fluffy romance read. What I got was something more nuanced, with humor, love, heartbreak, and depth. And somehow it turned out to be what I needed.

Brinley is full of spunk, emotions, and energy. I loved her as a character and could easily relate to her. Finn was a bit more of an enigma, but I fell for him all the same. I thought they worked really well as a couple and there were definitely a few swoon moments.

I do wish there would have been an epilogue and there was a part near the end I found a little unnecessary, but on the whole, a lovely read.

reading romances

This New Adult novella included two of my favorite romance tropes, a marriage of convenience and ROYALS! So obviously I had to read it!

From the very start, I was invested in the story, Brinley was such a relatable character. Finn was a breath of fresh air when it comes to heroes, especially these days in romancelandia where alphas are everywhere. Thank you, Julianna Keyes, for creating this rather shy, quiet and sweet hero.

A couple of situations were a bit unrealistic, perhaps because the author didn't have enough time to explore them simply or to keep the fairy-tale-like atmosphere.

Overall a romantic, sexy and fun read by an author that I adore.

What happens when a rebel princess was forced to marry her sister's former betrothed who happens to be the man she's in love with? Lots of uncertainty in navigating her married life.

The story has the length of a novella and as such the plot is short and straight-to-the-point which I really appreciate. Although it was written in the normal 3rd person voice, it was all from the heroine, Brinley's POV. So we read what goes on only from what Brinley experiences and views.

The political machinations were kept to a minimum and only when it affects Brinley so it makes the story a light reading and focuses more on Brinley's relationship with Finn.

Its a sweet light romance (if you exclude how hot the H/h are for each other) and I would recommend this to those who likes arranged marriage and royalty romances.

Plot: 4/5
Characterisation: 4/5

Bad Princess was a fun, cute and entertaining read! Princess Brinely is everything a princess should not be! Her character is care free and fun loving, always breaking the rules and giving life and the paparazzi the middle finger. She is just a bubble full of life and excitement. Brinely made me smile and chuckle to myself while reading this book.

I loved Finn from the get go, always calm and collected with a hard exterior that no one can crack. His personality eventually shined through and he became extremely likable!

Their relationship evolved beautifully and kept me on my toes.

One negative - Some parts got a little boring for me and I felt like I wanted to put it down.

3 stars!! Good read.

Both stars are for Julianna Keyes, who wrote Undecided.. One of the best college romance story that I have ever read. As for this book, despite the gorgeous cover, did not hold my interest for too long. Too many inner dialogues, a rather stuck up hero a not too shabby heroine but her characterization wasn't strong enough to lift this book to a greater level. Again, check out Undecided by this author. It was a very good read.

Bad Princess by Julianna Keyes is a novella that I enjoyed immensely. One reason being that it was different and lighthearted for the most part, while giving readers two characters that you could root and fall for. Julianna Keyes is an author who is immensely talented in the way she invokes so much emotion with every book she has written to-date. I know what I am talking about because except for her latest book in the Burnham College series, I have read everything that she has written and published in the genre.

Bad Princess as the title alludes to, is the story of the younger princess of the Kingdom of Estau, born three years after the birth of the most precious and beloved daughter of the Kingdom, Princess Elle Vida. Princess Elle had been the perfect princess; nothing in her life had been out of sync, never had she misbehaved. She had always done what had been expected of her, that is until she had abdicated the throne and eloped with a commoner when her marriage had already been arranged with a Prince from the neighboring Kingdom of Lenora.

Meanwhile, Princess Brinley Cantrella, with her penchant for mischief and “misbehavior”, is considered lacking the proper decorum that is required of a princess. Knowing that she would never be able to live up to the image of perfection that is her sister, Brinley perhaps had gone out of her way to live her life exactly as she had wanted. Causing scandals is her nature, and getting the opportunity to go to university, away from the prying eyes and ears of the Kingdom had been a godsend for her, that is until duty once again calls her back home.

With Elle having eloped and left the duty of marriage to Prince Finian Bellamy hanging in the balance, it is Brinley who eventually has to step in to fill the role, especially being caught in her most clandestine position yet, with none other than Prince Finian, her sister’s ex-fiance’. For Brinley, this marriage of convenience would be the ultimate punishment; getting married to the man she has loved since she was five years old, but knowing he would never love her in return.

So starts a marriage that is borne out of duty on both parts, or so Brinley believes, until her husband proves her otherwise, in each delicious and wanton encounter in bed and out of it, that leaves Brinley begging for more. However, Brinley’s legendary past is something that is determined to keep up, until she is forced to face her inner demons and accept her own self as being capable and able to course her own chart in traversing through life as an equal partner to her wedded husband.

I believe Julianna did a marvelous job of bringing the touch of modern to a fairy tale romance, the kind of romance we all fall in love with during our childhoods and carry them with us, even till today. I loved every single aspect of this book from the very unusual Princess Brinley who had her work cut out for her when it came to standing her ground and being true to her own self.

I absolutely adored Finnian. He is the kind of Prince I wouldn’t mind being shackled with. In all honesty, Finn and Brinley were made for each other. I fell in love with Finn because he sees right through Brinley, and accepts and loves her for all that she is. Her exploratory nature, her need for messing things up a little, and the way she always gives herself wholeheartedly to each and every adventure that life throws their way are reasons to love her all the more.

I cannot help but be curious to read about Elle’s story, the perfect sister and princess who “lost” her way to the “wicked” lumberjack who had led her “astray”. I hope Julianna intends to write her story one day.

Definitely recommended!

Final Verdict: In Bad Princess, Julianna Keyes delivers a fairytale romance with a twist of modern and leaves the reader wanting more!

Rating = 4/5

THE POSITIVE:

♥ The writing. I read a few books by Julianna Keys, and I really enjoy her writing. This one was great. The book is told through Brinley’s point of view, in the third person.

♥ I really enjoyed the premise and the plot.

♥ I liked the characters too, I loved Brinley, and I enjoyed reading about Finn too.

THE NEGATIVE:

♦ The lack of depth. This was way too short, and it needed more pages to actually develop everything appropriately. It needed more character development, it needed more relationship development.

♦ With that said, it also needed something more at the end. This book somehow didn’t feel like it told the whole story.

♦ I needed to have a glimpse into Finn’s mind, because by the end, he was still a bit of a mystery.

I received an e-ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Review can be found on *Milky Way of Books*

Short, sweet and sexy! Bad Princess follows the misfits of the known as "Bad Princess" Brinley and how an almost drunk mistake follows a small adventure and the romance she develops for her...husband.

I liked this story. While short, it's complete and doesn't leave loose ends. I would even love to see a prequel story about Brinley's sister Ella. And while there is a rollercoaster of remotions the funny times, can't be missed!
