Aleksandra Zaryanova is in over her head when Katya Volskaya sends her to eliminate the elusive hacker known as Sombra. At her wit’s end, Zarya reluctantly teams up with an omnic hacker. Butting heads all the way, they hone in on their target. Through strife, Zarya begins to realize that she will have to reassess her worldview about omnics being uniformly evil.
Andrew R. Robinson is a writer at Blizzard Entertainment. He co-authored the comic book StarCraft: Soldiers, and has also written for the Overwatch and Warcraft franchises.
Well drawn, vibrant, and surprisingly dense with character development.
We get just enough background on Zarya to empathize with both her sense of duty, and the deeply painful reason behind the prejudice she carries for the Omnics. She's forced to work alongside the Omnic, Lynx, which allows for a degree of banter and evolving chemistry that flows naturally.
Great book about zarya and her search to find sombra. At the end, it turns out she found sombras real name, which hadnt been known by anybody up to this point.
Got this yesterday for free comic book day. There were two comic stories in here. Overwatch and sneak peak of The Quantum League
Overwatch: I’ve never played the game and before getting the free comic, didn’t know they had a comic series. I didn’t really care for the story, it seemed very predictable, and I probably won’t buy any future Overwatch comics. The artwork was really nice though. I gave this 2 stars.
The Quantum League: Really captivating. The suspense kept me on my toes. I haven’t read anything about this series before but when I have time I plan on catching up. The artwork wasn’t as good as overwatch, TQL was very cartoony. Gave this 4.5 stars.
Free Comic Book Day, the first Saturday in May annually, featured a free Overwatch issue, "Zarya: Searching." It is Issue #15 in the series. This will probably be included in the second anthology, but it was cool to get it for free. This is my other favorite of all the Overwatch comics I have read so far. This one features one of Zarya's missions forcing her to work closely with an Omnic, which she can't stand. It is interesting seeing her hatred of them and how she must come to terms with working with an Omnic to succeed in her mission. She eventually finds who she is looking for, but the information she previously knew conflicts with what this person says. Who is telling the truth?
Zarya and robot bro go around the world to find sombra, the hacker who’s been hacking volskaya industries so zarya has to stop her. I really liked this one because zarya was really cool, I liked her relationship with the robot and the sombra vs zarya fight at the end was pretty good
That I would think this was crazy to find Sombras real name from Zarya but it was amazing and crazy to find the clues of what they find and trying to know Sombras name.
Read for Overwatch but I've not gotten into Black Hammer... yet. Anyways. It's a short story but not sure what to make of it. I love omnics. Zarya, y so hateful.
This comic is yet another comic snagged at a Free Comic Book Day. In this edition we have an Overwatch tale and a Black Hammer tale.
Zarya: Searching Zarya: Searching was the Overwatch tale. I have to admit, I don’t know much about this world outside of the bits and pieces my husband has told me about the game.
The quick story was interesting. It was fun while reading, but I’m not sure I’d pick up a full volume.
I did really enjoy the artwork and the colors though! And the characters that we met were neat.
3/5
The Quantum Age The Quantum Age was the Black Hammer tale.
This was another quick preview that just seemed like a bunch of name dropping all at once, but because it was all so quick, I forgot the characters immediately.
I do think that this one did a decent job introducing a new storyline, but it just wasn’t for me.
Aleksandra is tasked by Katya to find Sombra. She travels all around the world coming up empty until she finds a Omnic that has tracked her to a certain town.
Aleksandra and the Omnic arrive in the town and begin literally knocking on doors every single day asking if they have seen Sombra.
This is the latest Overwatch comic, however it again follows a common thread of not having a complete story. Although this one is a bit more complete than most. The writing and artistry is up to par with all the other comics in the series.
It unfortunately has DRM as with all the others, so -1.
I forget Zarya exists in the world of Overwatch and that she has ties to Sombra. Mildly interesting story and character introduction but if you are looking for resolutions don’t expect to find any here, this is Blizzard after all.
This one is actually pretty close to what's been going on with Torbjorn in terms of the use of tech for battle and how Omnics fit into all of that. Would be curious to know more about Zarya but you can't have everything all at once now, can you?

Past books have been, for the most part, great. Kind of a bummer that this one is just a long trying to find Sombra game, with a tiny attempt on development at the very end.
