Stefan Renaldo’s ski trip to Steamboat Springs was supposed to be a fun vacation with friends. Instead, he ends up alone and injured on the mountain. Even as Stefan fears he’s going to die of exposure, he sees something that must surely be the product of his pain-addled mind. A dragon. He wakes in a warm bed and being cared for by Kazeem, a sexy recluse. Needing surgery on his leg, he can’t stay. In the hospital, Stefan hears from his friends how crazy possessive and aggressive his rescuer is. While fleeing seems like a good idea, why can’t he get the mountain man out of his mind?
This author is capable of writing a decent book. This is not one of them. And so short! It's more pamphlet length than short story length. I was reading, flipped to the next page...But there wasn't one. I thought for a moment that there was something wrong with my Kindle. Zero character development and too many loose ends. And although the cover indicated this story was linked to her Wolves of Stoneridge series, that was completely false — zero connection. Were it free, it would be difficult for me to recommend this book. (Note to author: please stop using the word "chute")
Warming up to the Ice Dragon started out great. The ending however felt very rushed and thrown together. It was like it had to end in 10 pages or less and it was quickly put together. I love Charlie Richards but this could have been great. If the ending was lengthened and plot holes were explained then I would gladly change my rating. Not her best work though.
Found this book when I was looking for a book for a specific book bingo prompt, and it was quit fun. Short, but fun. I'm going to check out the other books, a Google search told me that there are a lot of them in this universe, and I'm very curious.
If you'd like to read about more books I liked, check out my Goodreads profile. I also sometimes post reviews on Instagram and talk about bookish stuff on Threads.
Stephan was rescued by a dragon. They were mates. It took a while to get together because of distance and Stephan's friends. The only thing missing is the rest of the story.
I'd recommend only reading this if you can get it for free (I did on Scribd as part of my subscription). I would have been super pi$$ed if I actually paid for this.
In a nutshell
Human suffers horrific sci accident Compound femur fx Enter dragon shifter who thinks its a great idea to move critically injured male human to his cabin so he can what? Put a bandaid on his booboo? Human begs for hospital. Fu&k yeah! I would too. If I see a bone sticking out of my leg! Dragon, who hates people, lives in the middle of nowhere, somehow has satellite phone and calls for help Human goes to hospital Dragon follows Human's friends show up at the hospital. They think dragon is a dick. Because he is. Dragon is escorted off property by security Dragon sulks at home for several days Human goes home with cast. Dragon shows up, declares him his mate, provides uninspired BJ, and pounds human's "chute"
All in 53 pages. The first like 45 are cabin and pre hospital so you're almost convinced the poor guy is going to bleed to death or go into shock before he can get some real medical help.
I mean there wasn't anything inherently wrong with it. There were no typos. It had a plot (kinda, I mean hey, its 50 pages, what kind of a plot can you really have). I simply didn't like it. You know when you read a good short story, one that's super well written, you just want to see the characters again. Hope for a longer version, novella or even a full novel. You wonder about their back story and what's in store for their future. I had not one iota of interest in either one of these characters. Nada. Zip.
Warming Up To the Ice Dragon is an even shorter version of the standard Charlie Richards' romance.
On what was supposed to be a fun trip to go skiing with his friends, Stefan has an accident. Alone and frightened, he thinks he may die until he's rescued by a knightdragon in shining scales.
Kazeem has been looking for his mate for a long time, and to find him in such a way is surprising, but he has no time to ponder fate as he must hurry to ensure Stefan survives.
These two have some issues. Stefan knows nothing of paranormals. Kazeem isn't really good with humans. Will Stefan's suspicious friends make Stefan discount the mate-pull and run away?
really too short story, kaz had extreme words to stefan's friends, but kristof started by treating his best friend's savior really badly, even claiming that he was at fault for his skiing accident,
