The Royals #4

The British Knight

Rate this book
When I’m offered the chance to leave New York to live in London for three months, I can’t pack my suitcase fast enough.

As soon as I touch down I’m obsessing over red telephone boxes, palaces and all the black cabs.

But my favorite place is the tube. It’s wall-to-wall hot British men in suits.

When I’m offered a temporary job working for a barrister, I say, sign me up.

On my first commute into work, it’s a total accident when I lose my balance and fall against the most handsome Brit alive. He’s as charming as James Bond and as suave as Mr. Darcy. I want to lick tea from his hard abs and listen to his accent all night long.

Turns out Mr. Handsome is my new boss. And his attitude isn’t as hot as his gorgeous face, broad shoulders and tight ass. He’s brooding, short-tempered and the most arrogant man I’ve ever met.

As we’re fighting, out of nowhere he kisses me. And I’m pretty sure I see fireworks over Big Ben and hear God Save the Queen.

I wasn’t looking for the fairytale but I might have found my knight in shining armor. The problem is he lives an ocean away.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️! The British Knight (stand-alone). Violet falls into secret affair with her new brooding, British barrister boss!

“He was different from all those guys in New York. Complicated and confusing but challenging and desperately sexy.”

The British Knight (stand-alone) opens up to MIT graduate and waitress Violet King heading to London for three months. En route to a job interview she encounters a profusely polite, beyond sexy and slightly aloof Brit. Barrister Alexander Knightley aka Knightley is intrigued by the sexy American.

Imagine their surprise to discover Violet will be serving as Knightley’s new assistant.

One incident of hot office sex against furniture later and they both settle into working side by side. Despite Knightley’s brooding personality they fall into a friendship. Maybe having a secret affair with an expiration date is what they both need... But what will happen when family visits for the holidays…?

With a looming deadline, they must discover what ties them together and sets them apart…

Seven words to describe Alexander Knightley aka Knightley: Honorable, workaholic, smart, easy-going, dis-organized, lonely and mercurial.

Seven words to describe Violet King: Impulsive, insecure, capable, irrational, smart, organized and lonely.

The British Knight, told from dual POVs, is a bit of an secret office romance meets opposite attracts combined with right-person-wrong-time romance. Neither Knightly nor Violet are equipped to deal with commitment and feelings, but off-the-chart sex and candid conversations have them both coming back for more.

➦BAM! First read of 2018 and thank you, Louise Bay, for this fabulous book! I've always enjoyed this author's writing but this was definitely my favorite of hers. She has written hot arrogant lawyers before, but in this book she took her time developing the characters and the plot. And I appreciate the length of this book. I didn't want it to end!

➦Audiobook narration by a guy with a hot British accent? Yes, please. I'm ALWAYS up for that.

➦When the heroine of this book goes to London for a visit to sort her life out, she never expect to end up working as an assistant to a moody, broody and verry hotty (just going with the flow, people) barrister. Can she match fire with fire?

➦Can I just say that the word barrister sometimes made me think of a barista and I couldn't help imagining a lawyer in nothing but an apron and serving me a cup of coffee. #mindwanders

➦Recommended to those who love office romances, romances set in UK, British brooding heroes, fiery heroines and relationships with an expiration date tropes. This book has been sealed.

The British Knight is book four in The Royals series by Louise Bay. This is my very first book by Louise and can easily be read as a stand alone. I am now an official fan of this author. I adored this book. I adored watching these two characters sort out their lives and find their HEA’s. It was beautiful, it was sexy, and it was amazing!

Violet King was badly hurt by her ex-boyfriend in college. She had thought she was in love but things definitely didn’t turn out the way she thought they would. Ever since then, she’s been in a sort of limbo, working waitress jobs, but never staying long in one job. She refuses herself to be romantically involved as well. She has one night stands with no emotional entanglements. But, after her last job ended, her sister in law convinces her to go to London and she would help her to find work there. As it turned out, she quickly got a job working for a barrister doing administrative work. It’s a chance to change her life, to finally cut ties with all the memories in New York and start fresh.

Alexander Knightley is a barrister in London. His life is his job. He works pretty much every moment except when he’s asleep, which isn’t much. He’s broody and rude and most people are afraid of him. His office is filled with stacks of paper since no one has the courage to go in there to try to organize things. His office has decided he needs an assistant and they hired one, Violet. But Violet brings a whole new challenge into the office. Because he can’t stop thinking about her, wanting to touch her.

“She was my own personal sun.”

They really tried to ignore the pull between them but it was too great, too strong. Violet was only in London temporarily. Could they just live in the moment and enjoy each other until it’s time for her to leave?

“Surprising Violet, making her happy, felt like the biggest achievement in my week. I’d never experienced anything like it outside of the law.”

Alex is a workaholic. Violet is afraid to let someone into her heart again. She can’t allow herself to be hurt again. Violet is able to show Alex that there is more to life than inside his office. Alex is able to give Violet back her confidence. To help her to finally look to the future and start some dreams of her own. Together, these two were just magic.

Since I’ve never read this author before, I was blindsided with how much I fell in love with this book, with Alexander and Violet. I loved the way they helped each other to grow. How they showed each other what love really was. Alex’s little gestures melted my heart. It might have taken him awhile to figure things out but it was wonderful. And I loved watching Violet blossom and finally start looking to her future and making plans.

This was such a good book, I loved everything about it. I will definitely book looking through Louise’s other work. The next book in this series is called The Earl of London and is Darcy’s book. I can’t wait to read it.

“She was my priority, my future, my destiny. It was all her.”

The listen was different...

Maybe because I knew how this one would end, I went in with a very different attitude listening to The British Knight. While reading, I was frustrated with Alex's single-minded focus and rudeness. Listening, I found his single-minded focus and rudeness a little humorous. This could have a wee bit to do with the very sexy sounding Shane East's narrating. It was very hard to be cranky with that swoon-worthy voice in my ear. Violet still frustrated me, so there wasn't a lot of change from the reading experience in that regard. Saskia Maarleveld does a great job portraying the characters and I thought both narrators complimented each other.

I really enjoyed my listening experience and I will definitely be back for more of The Royals Collection.

*************************************************

Don’t put off until tomorrow what will make you happy today…

In this everchanging life we lead today, I see a lot of people working to make “things” better. Unfortunately, those “things” come at a price.

"If I just work the extra 6 hours a day, I can retire when I’m 55," said the man who died at 50 from a heart attack.

"I’ll just miss my daughter’s ballet recital this year…there’ll be more in the future," said the mum of the daughter who gave up, because, what’s the point, when it seems like nobody cares.

"It’s only one anniversary we won’t be together," said the couple, who soon realised that every day counts.

Life is too short. When careers, money and avoiding experiences (in case you might get hurt) are at the cost of your happiness, it’s time to reassess your life. In The British Knight both Violet and Alexander are avoiding their life. Violet, because she doesn’t want to become involved, trust or love someone who may disappoint her. Alexander, because he’s on a path in his career. He thought the path was of his own making, but it takes heartbreak to realise he’s following someone else’s path.

To be honest, I wasn’t sure I liked The British Knight through most of this story. Violet came across as shallow and a bit of a loser…maybe loser is a bit harsh…maybe a scaredy-cat is a better term. Now, Alex, well he’s a workaholic, but he’s also a bit of a rude jerk. It took me a while to warm up to these two. Sure, I liked seeing their lust ignite. I also enjoyed watching them come out of their comfort zones. The biggest problem, I couldn’t see them changing their ways. Even their attempts seem to go nowhere and I was convinced that any changes would be shortlived. I wasn’t convinced that they could or would be able to have a HEA I would believe in.

Something changed, though. Truths came out, feelings were shared and the emotional anguish was something I felt when they were apart. The biggest turning point was something that Alex admitted. It was along the lines of, he put off his happiness until he was the best. I’ve never followed this way of thinking. I’m a firm believer that if you’re not happy with your path to the finish line, winning won’t give you satisfaction. In Alex’s case, he realised a little too late that his job meant nothing without Violet by his side.

So, in the end, I really enjoyed The British Knight. While I struggled with the decisions Alex and Violet initially made, it was obvious that with change, their path would definitely leave them satisfied. I loved that Violet found her very own Knightley in shining armour.

Another fantastic story by Louise Bay and I’m devastated that I have no more Poms or New Yorkers to fall in love with. But, if I’m very patient, I hope that Darcy will eventually get her HEA.

descriptionI enjoyed this one a lot. I almost always do when it comes to this author, so no surprise that this one was no different. Her books are always just straight up romances without a ton of angst and drama. They make you laugh. The make you cry. They always leave you smiling. Just another excellent read by Miz Bay.

description

So onto the deets...I found this one to be very well written. The pace was fairly good. I found it a little slow moving in places and a little too long. But to be honest I have a wicked cold and feel less than stellar so that could well be the head fog talking (lol). There was little angst and no OW/OM drama. The couples attraction was quite instant and there wasn't very much push/pull. The sex scenes were hot and there was a reasonable amount of them. There were some great secondary characters that consisted of couples from previous books. I hope that Darcy is getting her own book soon. Both main characters were extremely likable. Alex was hot and driven. But he was also sweet and (I felt) vulnerable. Violet was a breath of fresh air that blew in and shook up Alex's carefully constructed foundations. I loved her. She was a great heroine. Funny and sweet. Sassy and vulnerable. Together they had great on page chemistry. That said, I wasn't a fan of theirs towards the end and how the big drama played out. I thought Violet overreacted to the situation and Alex underreacted to Violet's overreaction. Last, it was all wrapped up in a nice little bicontinetal HEA. Nothing much left to say...this one gets two solid thumbs up from yours truly.description

3.5 stars

0 -35/40% -> 2.5 stars
40-100 % -> 4.5-5 stars

Color me surprised, the book wasn’t what I expected it to be.

It started as a ‘typical’ romance with slightly shallow heroine and rude hero.

But then approx. about 40% it turned out to be a deep story with good developed likable characters.
Well, I like to be positively surprised ;-)

I didn’t enjoy it till about 30%. The heroine didn’t annoy me, but she was just so ‘standard’: permanently wet and aroused. Though constantly sassy and never weak. I couldn’t stand the hero at the beginning + the twist *ugh*

***HUGE SPOILER***

So, after the book turned to the direction I liked, I floved it.

The H was über-/OTT/extremely workaholic, I never met such level in RL, but I can imagine there are people who get off on work *lol*.

I absolutely loved, that the h wasn’t clingy, she didn’t pushed him, she just let him be as he was. And it bothered him a lot *lol*, I guess every man expects a woman to be needy, well, this one wasn’t.
This side of the story was played brilliant!

I understood why she left him toward the end. It wasn’t only because of this 1 missed date, it was much more. How often do we read a book about a woman, who wants what’s good for her and not for a man?!

Bravo, girl!
I didn’t want to be the girl who sat around waiting for her man. That wasn’t seizing the day, and it wasn’t working toward my future either—it was just pathetic.

There were no fairy-tale miracles; but there was a man, who was so obviously deeply in love with his woman and tried really hard to win her back.
I loved the ending. They found a perfect solution, they didn’t sacrifice their lives, but found a perfect compromise.

And above all – this woman didn’t sacrifice her life/life-goals/future for the man -> unfortunately very popular trope in contemporary romance.

And this man didn’t demand his woman to give up her life for him.

Amazing. I really loved this side of the story.

With slightly rewritten 30% at the beginning it could have been 5-stars read for me!

FOR GOODREADS

the british knight

Title: The British Knight
Author: Louise Bay
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Publication Date: December 5, 2017

ARC

Just putting this out there..
First, this is my first book by this author.
Second, I loved this book. End of.

I am a happy reader when I know that I can't put a book down and do an all nighter. The British Knight was it for me. It had a seamless flow without all the unnecessary drama- which is a breath of fresh air after the book slump that I've been in.

The British Knight was the perfect example of a contemporary romance- It had all the love, all the lustful chemistry and a good dose of humour. Love it!

I loved the characters.
Did I mention that Alexander Knightley is British? stating the obvious after that title but still.. I admit that I MAY have (May have people) read his lines in a British accent(in the head) lol. Did I also forget to mention that this man is hardworking, successful, stubborn, kind-of moody(which is fine. He just needed the right woman to come along and cheer him up.lol!) sexy and absolutely drop dead gorgeous?!

I will admit that I may have sighed a lot in blissful contentment much to the annoyance of my roommate. She 'MAY' have told me to "snap out it it" too hahaha. But C'est La Vie... I really enjoyed reading this book and I hope you give this one a try.

Happy Reading!

I’ve always wanted to be rescued by a British Knight, and finally I have been❤️ A sexy, overachiever, arrogant, yet kind with a certain someone, handsome man. A man that won’t back down from anything or anyone. A man that gets what he wants because he can and will. Alexander Knightley is the man that catches every woman’s eye yet he’s the man that no woman can have. He’s unattainable emotionally and professionally. Enter Violet King to shake up the British man

Violet King was a lost soul that gave up when everything was ripped away from her years ago. Shes determined to never let a man get close enough to hurt her again. She is all beauty, she’s all soul, and she definitely has the sass to give to any man willing to try giving it to her. She wants change and takes up an offer to relocate for a few months to London and work for a law firm. Time to get away and reevaluate what her future plans may be. Never thought by being placed as an assistant to a Britain Barrister, that her life would forever be changed.

The ups and downs, the journey of bringing life to a person that doesn't see the light outside of an office, and the obstacles of change can directly impact lives. In this story, you learn to seize the day, live in the moment, and love like its your last day. Just when you think you have your life figured out, things come into it that change it completely. You re-evaluate your true meaning, what you want, how you want your life to play out, and you make the changes necessary to have what your heart wants. My first book by this author, and definitely not my last. It was slow building but it was hot, it was sexy, and it was down right enjoyable.

What a beautiful story!!! So real and funny and super cute!! The characters Alex and Violet have such chemistry together it is a joy to read.
Violet is smart, sexy, and funny and Alex is smart, too, handsome and quirky but that makes him so much more enjoyable. They have one hot and sexy relationship that’s for sure and it has only gotten hotter as time goes on. They have more than just a physical connection though, it’s an all around perfect fit with these two. And there is a faint forbidden vibe that only adds to the excitement.
The plot is fast-paced and the writing-style is so smooth and easy to read. This is the type of book you could read in one sitting. I just wish the story was a bit more angsty and intense.
The British Knight is super fun, insanely hot…a perfect romantic fun light read!!!

In short:
Hero 5/5 | Heroine 5/5 | Plot (Point, Originality) 4/5 | Writing Style 4/5 | Steam 4/5 | Romance 4/5 | Angst-Suspense 3/5 | Darkness 0/5 | Humor 4/5 | Secondary Characters 4/5 | Drama-Conflict 4/5 | Mystery 0/5 | Twists 4/5 | Pacing Fast | Action 3/5

Overall Opinion: I enjoyed this! I was really digging it, and if it wasn't for the ending I would've loved it! I'm a greedy, greedy girl and I wanted more from the end. It felt way too abrupt after their conflict was resolved, and I really wanted to experience the changes they made for each other! I felt like we were just told about them instead. I really liked the H. He was definitely a grump at times, but I loved that he was just clueless and that he found himself wanting more out of life for himself! Overall, it was a good read that I liked.

Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Violet and Knightly's story. Violet is at her wits end after losing another waitressing job and the company that her ex stole about to go public, so she takes an opportunity to go to London and live with her sister's sister-in-law. She gets a job as a barrister's assistant and is assigned to get Knightly organized. He is a moody and difficult person to work for, but neither of them can deny the pull they feel towards one another and the strong attraction they feel. Eventually things come to a head, and they give in to their attraction. There are some big life changes, some sexy times, and some romance...and they get a HFN ending.

POV: This alternated between Violet and Alexander's POV.

Overall Pace of Story: Good until the end (see closure section below). I never skimmed and I thought it flowed well otherwise.

Instalove: No, they take a while to develop stronger feelings.

H rating: 4.5 stars. Alexander. I really liked him. He was a pretty clueless when it came to relationships, but I appreciated how he actively tried to be better.

h rating: 4 Stars. Violet. I liked her. I appreciated that she was smart, comfortable in her sexuality, and driven in her own way. I did get frustrated when she pushed the H away towards the end.

Sadness level: Low/moderate. I cried a little, but I never needed any tissues.

Push/Pull: Yes

Heat level: Good. They have some good tension, chemistry, and scenes -- but not so much it takes away from the story.

Descriptive sex: Yes

OW/OM drama: Yes

Sex scene with OW or OM: No

Cheating: Not IMO

Separation: Yes

Possible Triggers: Yes

Closure: This had kind of an abrupt ending, and the ending was definitely my biggest complaint. With the risk of sounding like my usual broken record -- I wanted more!! I wanted to experience their future selves, and not just being told what had happened! I wanted a HEA!! I would call this a HFN ending .

Safety: This one should be either Safe or Safe with exception for most safety gang readers depending on personal preferences.

4 What's Important Stars
* * * * Spoiler Free
Louise Bay knows how to weave a tale. She understands motivators for her characters and takes her readers on a journey where every discovery these characters have is heartfelt. She gives them deep emotional obstacles that must be overcome in order for us to receive the happily ever after we so want. She does it with a sure hand and this time, not only with a British accent but in London to boot.

Our gal Violet has been burned; romantically and professionally. She fell for her college guy and together through the years they developed a company with her ideas. Then when things started to take off, it turns out he registered everything in his name leaving her out in the cold. Oh, and she caught him cheating too.

Lesson learned...no trust of love and to live as opposite as her ex. No corporations for her, working as a waitress with no attachments. Free to come and go as she pleased. Sex... if she felt like it and on her terms...But all of it was getting old.

Violet is having a get together with Scarlett, her sister, and Darcy, Scarlett's new sister in law. Darcy lives in England and has offered Violet the flat in London to use for a few months. Since Violet is not employed at the moment, Darcy and Scarlett suggest this would be a perfect way to escape all the media publicly of the IPO launching for the company her ex stole from her. Darcy even has an idea of a temporary position for Violet while there.

What the hell, why not...Violet leaves NYC and is off to London.

Interview jitters... That is what Violet is handling. During the couple of weeks it took to arrange her work papers, she tried to become comfortable with her surroundings. The flat is lovely and in an amazing area of London. She has all of the necessary things ... Her CV (resume for Americans), her smartphone with all of the Tube (subway) instructions on how to get to the location and address. She even made sure she had loaded up the travel pass with enough money.

As she does the payment pad and gets onto the train, she sees a man in a suit cut to perfection with bright blue eyes offering her a seat...And so shocked and taken with this vision of Yum...She actually misses her opportunity to get the seat... someone else grabs it.

But this turns out to be a blessing in disguise... leaving her to stand next to this man throughout the trip. As she is jostled by the stops and starts of the train, she ends up being very near this man...his woodsy scent intoxicates... the way his jaw is chiseled...even his hands holding the newspaper are mesmerizing...They both look at each other for a moment...and she gets a feeling he could just lean in and kiss her...She would not mind at all...

Her stop comes and with the pushing and shoving, the man knocks her phone out of her hand as they exit.

Noooooooooooooooo ... This cannot be, Violet is dying... the phone landed on the tracks and her map of how to get where she is going for this interview is on that phone. She is about to jump down and try to retrieve it when the man pulls her away. He briskly stops her and asks where she is headed. He is going there and he will show her the way.

Violet sees he isn't all for chatting and she works to keep up. They get to the building, he gives her his card and insists on purchasing her a new phone. He walks off to another entrance and Violet goes to the floor of her interview.

Alex is disturbed...He is unsettled. First, his day started off wrong and made him late causing him to be on the train with that woman... the one he cannot stop thinking about. This is not usual at all.

You see, Alex is a Barrister. Not only is he a Barrister but is at the top of his game working towards becoming the next level. It is a very long and hard road to accomplish all Alex's wishes... for he has very big shoes to fill. His Father was the End All Be All of Barristers... Famous and Legend. Alex's warmest memories are when his mum would allow them to come down to his father's office and visit him... bringing lunches and Alex would pretend to be just like his father.

Now he is on track...his devotion to this goal superseded everything and his marriage couldn't withstand the pressures. Separated for 3 years, Alex has been living in a hotel with his only activity being his workouts, his planning his court cases and a once in awhile hook up. He is a notorious control freak when it comes to his office, cases, and paper...Files and towers of paper overwhelm. He insists on doing everything himself much to the detriment of the company; his billing is way past due. They have been after him to allow the clerks to assist... but after a time or two... the clerks give up on trying to deal with his demeanor.

Enter Violet... Yes, Violet. She has just interviewed with HR and has been given the assignment of bringing a Barrister's billing up to date. She has been warned it won't be easy and the Barrister is difficult. She will be there for 3 months. Both Violet and Alex are stunned it is him. Both recover quickly as if it were natural for her to be there.

This is our set up and we are in for a treat. Picture Britain meeting American...All the cultural differences yet all the attraction to opposites. Each fighting the desire they have... it is so strong you can cut it with a knife...and when they finally give in...

Hail Britannia!

Of course, there is so much more than just these two being attracted and acting on it...There are the issues of learning what is important... and how time lost cannot be regained...How seeing things from another perspective can open up other ways of doing things...How to be yourself... willing to make adjustments but not to take scraps... how a woman deserves it all, not be fit in when one can...

Louise Bay loves her characters... she writes them with individual personalities and faults... she makes them human and not cookie cutter. And she gives amazing sexy times...with real feelings. She has done herself proud with this series of interconnected stand-alone books. Each of them works by themselves, yet they all add flavor to each other. I don't know if there are more coming but either way... if Louise Bay writes, I'll read it.

«We could have been in the arctic and I wouldn’t have cared.
She was my own personal sun.»

«For the first time ever in my life I wanted more from a woman. I wanted Violet to be my girlfriend. I wanted to be her boyfriend. I wanted to make her happy because that’s what she made me whenever I was with her.»

«“It scares me too, but I’m really good at working really hard to be the person I want to be. I’ve just always wanted to be the best barrister. Now I want to be a man you deserve.”»

«The way I feel for you is . . .” She pulled her brows together. “Binary. Permanent. I’d never felt it before you. It’s as if what I feel has been specifically invented. Just for you.”»

«I wanted her to feel as special as she made me feel.»

The British Knight takes fans of these characters across the pond to London where New Yorker Violet King meets sexy Brit Alexander Knightley. Violet is a little lost in her life at the moment which is why such a drastic change is just what she needs to figure out where she wants to end up in life. Alexander is the complete opposite and has known since day one that he wants to be the best barrister, (that's a trial lawyer for my fellow U.S. peeps) and become just as well known in the field as his father was.

What made these two characters so perfect for one another was that they were so different. Alexander was a work-aholic that barely had a life outside of the office while Violet was someone who tried not to let the seriousness of life stop her from her fun. I love these types of romances and think they make the best ones because, well, opposites really do attract. I loved that we got to see how fun Alexander could be once he let Violet talk him into letting go of work sometimes and it had me falling for his character.

I loved that the connection between these characters was evident no matter what situation it was in, be it a flirty banter in the office or something much dirtier. Those office smexy scenes were very well done and had me holding my breath waiting for more. I can't wait to get more from all the secondary characters as well and actually need to go back and read Scarlett's book so I'm glad I'll have something to tide me over while I wait for the next.

“I don’t want you to resent me.”
“I couldn’t. You’ve never asked me for anything.”
“Not technically true. I beg for your cock a lot.”
“Yeah, you’ll never find me complaining about that.”

Believe it or not, I only discovered the incredible talent that is Louise Bay not too long ago. And I am SO FREAKING GLAD I did, because ever since then, she’s been keeping a smile on my face with each new release I devour! Her characters are so damn lovable and their circumstances are hilarious and sweet, and the chemistry is ALWAYS…ALWAYS a 10! I have absolutely no problem at all keeping my eyes glued to the pages of a Louise Bay romance. I laugh. I cry. I curse. I sigh. I blush like crazy! Everything about her books and her characters make me MELT! Her latest release, THE BRITISH KNIGHT has to be my absolute FAVORITE of hers so far! First of all, our hero Alexander Knightley is BRITISH! I know, right? There is a SLAM DUNK element right there! He’s also brooding, successful, gruff, gorgeous, and stubborn as hell! He will frustrate the hell out of you, but you will FALL HARD for him anyway. Then you have the beautiful heroine, Violet King, who I loved right off the bat. I could relate to her on so many levels! She is feisty, hardworking, and holds her own against our Mr. Knightley. Together, these two IGNITE the pages, one by one, until you come to a beautiful happily ever after that couldn’t have been better set up.

I think the thing I LOVE about these Louise Bay romances, is the fact that they are always so well-rounded love stories. They have everything that a romance junkie could ever want in a contemporary romance. There is emotion, maybe some angst. There is insane chemistry and smoking hot sex scenes. There is hilarity and entertainment all throughout. It’s missing absolutely nothing and I can ALWAYS count on these romances to bring me out of a funk or to help me escape reality for just a few hours.

THE BRITISH KNIGHT was VERY well written. It flowed seamlessly and quickly so I was able to finish it in one sitting. Trust me, once you start, there is not setting this sucker down. This was an absolute PAGE-TURNER, for sure! I can only hope that this author NEVER stops writing, because as long as she gives us happily ever afters like Violet and Alex’s, well, I’ll ALWAYS be first in line to devour it, page by page.

Ferocious wall sex, anyone?

I'm down with that! And boy oh boy did Alexander and Violet deliver. Don't get me wrong, there was so much more to this story than sex appeal. It was a very intriguing read. I absolutely loved the setting. I've been waiting for a romance set in the U.K. from Louise Bay and was beside myself with glee when this book was announced! And she delivered another amazing romance! I simply adore her books.

So, here’s the breakdown:
Violet is very close to hitting rock bottom. She doesn’t know it and definitely wouldn’t characterize her situation as such, but it’s the truth. She’s lost another job, has not money, and nothing really appeals to her. She’s not dealing emotionally with a situation in her personal life, but instead allowing it to have a negative impact on her well-being. What she needs is a fresh outlook. A few months rent free in a London flat is just what she needs!

What I loved:
The setting was amazing! So much so, I googled it and perused 360 degree views of the locations. Yep, I’m just that nerdy. But anywhoo, it was fab!

The characters are GREAT! Violet is spunky, smart, and has a smart mouth. She’s also fun-loving, flies by the seat of her pants, and enjoys the male. Can we say, “my kinda girl?” Yep!! She’s a definite highlight.
Knightley is ….YUM! Tall, sexy, commanding, and handsome. Male perfection!

"His scent, his stare, his voice, and his touch had a thread binding them all together. They all exuded strength -- of mind, of body, of character."

Aloof, dedicated, determined, and a wee bit of an asshole. TJ loves the alpha-holes. So a WIN in the character department!

The story is great. The writing is spot on. And I got all tingly while reading it. It’s sexy and romantic with exquisite character development.
So... I just waxed poetic and gushed all the good things….why the missing half star? I only had one teeny tiny super small critique. And I must note, this has more to do with my personal preferences. While the character development was amazing, I felt Alexander’s shift went just a smidge too far. I fell in love with the gruff, aloof, no holds barred, driven character, and he mellowed just a tad too much for me. Again….personal preference.

In a nutshell, the book is phenomenal. I highly recommend it!

4.5 'Seize each other' Stars!

I’ve been in love with Louise’s characters since I first read King of Wall Street. Since then, she has been releasing books about the characters we met through that amazing book and I’ve loved every single one of them! When she announced Violet’s story I sure got super excited about it and I can now say you will not be disappointed! The British Knight was another absolute winner for me!

So, as I said, The British Knight is related to most of Louise’s releases since King of Wall Street. Of course you can read this as a standalone novel but I am sure you will get curious about all the other couples (because they are awesome!). But now it’s time for Violet King to fall in love and who is better than a hot British workaholic? So, Violet is not in a good place, she needs a change in her life and she gets it by starting a new job in London. Well, everything gets a bit complicated when she meets her new sexy boss (Alexander Knightley) and the sparks start flying.

Nothing ever broke my concentration, but Miss King had found a way.

I’ve missed these characters, man! All of them were what made me fall in love with Louise’s love stories and Violet and Alexander were not an exception! The couple of The British Knight starts with lots of complicated past situations and both people decided not to act on their attraction. Their connection is forbidden but it also is unstoppable. Violet and Alex start getting on VERY well, obviously things progress after that and I loved it!

It was a desire I was trying to fight—head over heart, mind over matter.

A romantic was the last thing I’d ever describe myself as being, but that’s what Violet King was doing to me. She was changing me into a man who took Saturday nights off and danced in a park.

The chemistry between these two is extremely hot! I mean, who does not love a sexy office romance? I loved the relationship between Violet and Alexander so freaking much! Not only because of the mind-blowing sex but also because of their beautiful connection. They bring out the best in each other and they also heal their past injuries together. They fight for what they feel (when they realize it!) and I loved seeing them so happy in the end.

He was my Knightley in shining armor and our fairytale was as real as it got.

Therefore, I am rating The British Knight with 4.5 STARS because it was a fantastic love story with great characters and lots of sexy and emotional moments! Also, it was great to catch up with all the other couples in the other books. Louise Bay has created a beautiful list of characters and I want more (Darcy’s story is much needed!!!). So, of course, I am definitely recommending this one!

another audiobook, another disappointment... unfortunately this one is a DNF for me at about 25% I really tried... honestly... especially since both narrators were truly phenomenal... actually, the fact that Shane East narrates this book with his swoonworthy british accent... but I didn't really like either of the main characters... and the writing style was just "meh" for me... :/ both Violet and Alexader behaved in a way that was completely unbelievable for me... the more I got into the story the more I was irritated by Violet's unprofessional acting in the office... similar things can be said about Alexander... I am also not the biggest fan of this instant super hot chemistry they had for each other that was apparently too hard to control even though both of them thought they shouldn't act on it... *sighs* #NotMyCupOfTea :/ if it sounds like something you want to try, first of all I recommend you to give the audiobook version a try, but as always, I encourage you to check out some other reviews and ultimately make up your own mind :) happy reading whatever you choose :)

XOXO

I can't give a whole 5 stars, but they deserve 4.5 from the bottom of my heart.
I truly enjoyed how their personality changed because of each other, how their perspective grew a bit bigger and looked differently so many things. I loved this development.
Their chemistry was great, banters good - I smiled a lot.
Recommend this one. (Also the first one in the series! I loved Max a lot.)

⭐3-3/4 Stars (pushed it to 4 Stars)⭐

*Thoroughly enjoyed Alexander's strong, no nonsense character

*I loved the humor that was directed toward the reader throughout the book (although I would have like more towards the end)

*The time gaps or delays between when a character decided to do something and the action occurring was strange

*the romantic steamy bits were only at the beginning of the book and completely died out from the middle to the end which made it quite a bit dull to finish

*The storyline was simple, straight forward, not too much going on, and no unrealistic drama which I loved

*Overall a quick HEA, solid stand-alone romance novel worth a read

Couldn't get into it. I must have stopped and started this book at least 4 times and in the end I couldn't even finish it. My main problem was the heroine, she's just someone I wouldn't route for. She reminded me as one of those girls that would take a vacation to Europe and come back with a European accent and tell everyone "oh well in Britain they do it so much better blah blah blah." You know the type. And the reason why she left the hero without even a proper goodbye was childish and stupid.

Ha estado bien, aunque ha habido partes un poco lentas. Me gusta la pareja que hacen y que él se de cuenta de lo que se está perdiendo en la vida por estar centrado en el trabajo, pero les ha faltado comunicación en muchas partes del libro

When I started The British Knight by Louise Bay, I was a little worried that the hero in this book was going to keep me from loving it, but I’m very happy to say that was not the case. I loved the complexity of these characters and the metamorphosis they both underwent during this story. Nothing is better than seeing characters make changes in their lives not for another person but because they realize they want something more out of their life. The fact that they also found one another and a love they didn’t expect was icing on top of a delicious cake. The British Knight was a funny, sexy, and expertly crafted romance that was a joy to read.

Violet King needed a change in her life and when she’s offered a place to live and help finding a job she moves from New York to London hoping to find a new direction, what she doesn’t expect is to find a purpose in her new job or a man who stimulates her intellectually and physically.

Being the best in his career as a barrister is Alexander Knightley’s grand plan, so much so that he works way more hours than he should seven days a week and has a failed marriage to show for it. He loves his work and finds the law stimulating, but he has no life outside of work and on top of that his inability to delegate has left his office a mess and his billing way out of date, so when the chamber hires Ms. King to get him organized he is displeased, but he can’t deny the attraction he feels towards her.

I’m going to be blunt, Alex had a$$holish tendencies, but Violet refused to let him intimidate her and while he pretended that her overbearing ways bothered him it was easy to see he admired her tenacity. I actually loved Violet’s take charge attitude and the fact that she began to realize her worth and that her contributions made a difference. I loved watching the effect Violet’s live in the moment attitude had on Alex and it was entertaining watching him soften and start to really live his life.

The chemistry between Alex and Violet was off the charts and it burned for a good while before they acted on it, they kind of did a back and forth dance but in the end they couldn’t deny that what they had was special. They both made some mistakes, but in the end there was some pretty big soul searching, some revelations, and one heck of a grand gesture that made it all worth it.

A feel good love story with a bit of compromise, a whole lot of sexiness, and two people finding a love they never expected made The British Knight an excellent offering from author Louise Bay.

DNF at 76%

I just couldn't finish it. It lost all of its charm when they are grown ass fucking adults and they have so many misunderstandings that it is starting to sound like a fucking Seinfeld episode.

I mean all they think about is sex and how it could fuck up their jobs and their lives and and all of this could have been prevented with a little bit of communication.

It also started with this girl being a badass motherfucker who didn't take shit from anybody and she is basically sidelined by this sexy guy in a suit who is totally not her type but damn his ass who has a problem with self control. They both become so whipped for each other so quickly that it doesn't keep the tension through the book. I was sitting there going "All of these problems are easy to solve but you are acting like teenagers right now."

But all that being said, there was one aspect to this book that I absolutely appreciated:

There was absolutely all the time safe sex (from what I read). Protection was there and there was none of this ugly man trope that you see in romance where he just has to feel and condoms are cramping his style. I'm all about safe sex in romance books because it is absolutely something that we should romanticize.

And he was all about consent. And she turned him down for a bit and he respected that.

But yeah, I couldn't even finish the book and I'm going to delete the thing off my kindle. It is some weird English man in suit fantasy being played out in a novella and while that is fun, it has to be well done.
