With the epitaph solved and the true culprit revealed, all that remains is for Will the Mage-Hunter to take down the witches illusion and expose the truth about the events that have bought such tragedy to Rokkenjima. As each game is broken down and shattered in turn, the mystery of Beatrice is at last put to rest. But the witches who have so relished piling torment upon torment on the Ushiromiya family can hardly let this story end peacefully... There is yet another tragedy to relay, but who could be moving the pawns this time...?
Ryukishi07 (竜騎士07, Ryūkishi Zero Nana?, born November 19, 1973) is the pen name of a Japanese man originally from Chiba Prefecture who is well-known as the original creator for the idea of the visual novel series Higurashi no Naku Koro ni and Umineko no Naku Koro ni. He is the representative member of the group 07th Expansion. His pen name originated from the Final Fantasy series, "Ryūkishi" being the Japanese term for "Dragoon", and "07" goroawase for the name "Lenna". His illustration style is recognizable from the large hands he draws on people.
Trigger warnings: violent visual deaths, psyche breakdown, and speaking of children abandonment.
The confession of Beatrice and her truth spoken, we thought the story would conclude with a happy ending.
Of course, this is not the case. The truth Aunt Eva buried in the cat box was opened, revealing what had happened when she was the survivor. Greed playing one major role.
One can still contemplate how many people were truly on the island.
In all of us, there is a darkness.
The final episode dawns. Will the true story come to light?
My final review on vol 21 is going to be a long one... so many thoughts.
What an OUTSTANDING volume and incredible episode all around. Episode 7 covers so much ground, but it does it so elegantly, with so much rich detail, and at such a brisk pace that it ultimately doesn't matter. This was the longest Episode by far in the manga, but it was probably the one I read the fastest other than 3. Will's a fantastic protagonist, Lion is a magnificent character, Beatrice is made all the better for how much insight we get into her, and I just love the glimpses we get into Kinzo, Shannon, the servants, and even Battler.
This volume's highlights are definitely Will's final battle with Claire (loved actually getting the solutions and a lot of them were fairly clever. I did manage to guess some to my credit!), and the whole Tea Party on Rokkenjima. The "Truth" is one of the most viscerally upsetting things I've read. It's the series' penchant for family drama elevated to the absolute max and presented probably as cynical as possible.
Phenomenal episode, phenomenal adaptation. I cannot wait to start Episode 8.
Episode Ranking: 7 > 5 > 3 > 4 > 2 > 1 > 6

just flying through these at this point because i want to know the end sooooo bad. super fucked up what actually happened at rokkenjima those days of the family meeting. like what the fuck. i want everything for these poor suckers and they keep taking it from themselves. i am sincerely hoping episode 8 can pull off this finale and finally tie everything together, not just all the ends separately but actually coming together to form the final unifying end of this story. fingers crossed heading into episode 8!! feeling good after this finale to episode 7!!!!

✨Writing a grouped review for the entirety of the manga and copy/pasting. I started reading this 6 months ago at the time of writing and read over a few months and don't remember specifics about every single volume except what I rated them ✨
Umineko has an intriguing premise and good execution which does a lot right. The author manages to create such eerie and scary atmospheres and have the reader on edge wondering what is going to happen next. I particularly enjoyed a lot of the locked room scenarios and discussions and explanations.
Where this manga fails is it's extreme repetitiveness. It wears down on the reader very quickly. As a result I'm not sure this is a manga I would recommend to many people.
I will eventually watch the anime, whilst a short run this may be something I'd be inclined to recommend more as the premise itself is well done.
