When a Shifter Council hearing proves corruption in the council, Councilman Regales Colearian takes it as a personal affront. Deciding to take matters into his own hands, he handles all grievances himself. That includes going to Stone Ridge to meet the shifters impacted by the scientists the wolf pack has been fighting against. Once there, he runs across the last person he ever thought he’d meet—his mate, Armand Theodore Conway—who happens to be a human male. Regales learns that Theo knows about paranormals, but has no interest in bonding with one. Theo is a Navy Seal and has seen so much depravity he feels tainted by it. Plus, Theo isn’t gay. While Regales has never considered himself gay either, at over four hundred years old, he’s been alone a long, long time. He knows claiming Theo will turn his life upside down, but it’ll be worth it. Stepping out of his own comfort zone isn’t easy, so can Regales manage to convince Theo to give a stuck-in-his-ways bear shifter a chance?
Not much food for thought or even for fury in this book, with a human mate oh-so-conveniently aware of shifters (this knowledge is given a convoluted explanation that feels as fake as the lad's double credentials as Navy seal-slash-hacker and magicless member of a family of witches, all that at merely 32) and a grumpy, heavily bearded, 412 y.o. grizzli set in his ways. The writing is a little less awful than was the case in some instalments of this series, barring the usual package of exaggerations and non sequiturs (for example, "frowning, Theo turned his attention toward the fire, losing himself for a few seconds as memories flooded him. He'd taken down drug kingpins, slave traders, and kiddie porn rings. His team's incursions had toppled governments and saved prisoners of war"). More in the way of conflict between the mates because the human has issues is never bad, provided this is handled at worst in a moderately convincing way - unlike in this book, whose stated motives beyond this reluctance utterly fail to hold water (Theo deems himself too unsettled by what he has seen and done in his military career to live as long as his paranormal beloved ! talk about a feeble, fabricated excuse, and one which conflicts with his being born normal in a bloodline otherwise endowed with long lives...). Obviously, the entire formula beyond these books has more than served its time, after 43 volumes, and barely seems alive. New blood is urgently needed, as much as a more satisfactory template for the insertion of the upcoming stories into this universe, for the new characters that get introduced feel like filler (it would be rewarding for the reader if each novel instalment took pains, if not to present in dynamic fashion the protagonists of the following story and attempt to sketch their background, at the very least to foreshadow them and lay roots for their own book).
On a massive re-re-read of Charlie Richards' Stone Ridge world series. As stand alones these short stories and novellas are usually a 3/5 , With talented use of stereotypes, quick short plot arcs and descriptive writing they are fun to read. There is the occasional clunker coming in at a 2 due to gaps and unfinished mini plot elements. However, when read in series, they become a bit more as the world elements and overarching plots add depth.
2.5 This was just ok... Got a 'over the hill' shifter, meaning he's on the tail end of his lifespan, and a Navy Seal with witches in his background. With a family of witches I'd think Theo would already KNOW about the rest of Paranormal world and not have to guess or be like, oh no that doesn't surprise me at all cus of my family...
Neither one of them ever been with a man before. Reg has a 10 incher that he seems to expect to get all or most (?) cuddly times. Theo isn't some push over and he's not the impression to me of not being somewhat dominate himself, although that is never used in reference to him.
Reg's overstepping on getting his unclaimed, unbonded mate declared dead was.. ummm... overstepping... Picture eye rolling. Picture it TWICE... after reading the title again.. ENTICING... umm, ok... I just reported you dead not giving you a choice while you were knocked out even though you were running away but I've enticed you to give in to sexing it up with me. But sure ok I'll go with it....hmmmmm
Awesome and well written story that held my attention and left me captivated at the conclusion of the book. I enjoyed this romance and the two main characters were both strong willed men. Theo suffered from PTSD, but with help from Regales, they could work on that hurdle together. I just loved seeing another councilman get put into his place (along with the brother of Regales) Overall, a very delightful and entertaining read. =)
Okay so y'all know the meme about USA would invade a country, steal their resources and start a war there and 20 years later release a movie about how sad the soldiers were while doing it? Okay, this book is exactly that.
Also Regales is a HUGE red flag. He panicked and virtually killed Conway? And didn't even ask about start the bonding process? I hate this type of men, controlling and honestly, abusive??? And the fact that the author tried to tell about it in a rOMantIC light? Inmediatly no
Quick easy and very predictable. Good for a couple of hours escapism and slightly better than most of the Stone Ridge books hence the high rating. A four star rating would normally have to be way better than this, but I’ve decided to rate the books in this Universe in relation to each other, not in relation to other books I read.
I enjoyed this Wolves of Stone Ridge story better than the last several. The story was more than just the shifter meeting his mate. It had meat on the bones with the shifter counsel and the betrayals that felt more fulfilling to me than the last several stories.
OMG This is the BEST book yet. I loved it. The feelings between both men once they touch is fantastic even when Theo fights it and runs. The desperation for Reg to whoo his mate is paramount for him. A situation arises and they must act swiftly. This story is brilliant and has a twist at the end I didn't see coming. Two straight men find out their fated mates is an amazing story-line, I loved that. I did find the start with all the names mentioned was a but overwhelming but I kept reading. Regales's big bear shiftier wanted Theo but Theo didn't want mates and definitely not to a shiftier male one.. Council man, Regales 400+ yrs wanted to keep everyone safe in his community after all they expected to uphold the law. Still in clean-up mode from another treasonist council member he had work ahead of him. Going to Stone Ridge was on his agenda with an expectation things would change. Armand aka Theo 32 yrs was human and knew about shiftier his friend Hess was a bear after all. Being an Navy Seal Theo was a good computer hacker.. Highly recommended..
I liked the twist in the characters of the straight macho men turned gay, but still felt a few things were lacking at the end. Lately, I've noticed the books in this series have gotten shorter and only ever have one full-on sex scene compared to the earlier books. The endings are so abrupt they leave you feeling unfulfilled. I would have liked to see a switch relationship, with Theo dominating Reg once in a while. Being a Councilman must be stressful and he could do with some time not in control. Also there were two issues left open-ended that left me with more questions than answers. What happened with Theo's PTSD? Sure he could sleep better, but what about his flashbacks? Also, what about the witches? I would have loved to see his family show up and stir up the Shifter Council. There was so much more potential for this story that I really felt went overlooked.
Wow love is very distracting when its you falling hard for your mate. His own brother being dumb enough to attack him was really stupid. When fighting for your mate and yourself adrenaline kicks in.
Another great story. I love everyone of them and I enjoy when Jared and his friend Raul make an appearance they are so funny. Keep up the AWESOME writing can't wait for the next book to come out.
Theo is a human and navy seal. He has known about shifters for some time because his family are witches. At a pic nic thrown in honor of a visiting councilman, he discovers he is the councilman's mate. His life is in for a lot of changes
