"We're all cursed—every single one of us."

Lana Peri isn't afraid of telling anyone exactly what she thinks, even if it gets her into trouble—which it usually does. But the thing is, she can't lie. Her unfiltered honesty doesn’t exactly make her many friends, although it does get her kicked out of class regularly. Lana knows the truth will eventually be her undoing. If only she’d known it would begin today.

It’s meant to be a night Lana and her best friends will never forget. And it is... for all the wrong reasons. Lana witnesses not just one, but two violent crimes committed by the same person. Except she can't say a word. Not if she wants to protect her friends.

Lana’s silence will implicate her and inadvertently cover for him. But it’s not like she has a choice. He is powerful. Connected. Untouchable. And a friend of Joey Harrison—the guy Lana is uncharacteristically drawn to the moment they meet. Joey’s also the only one who is told the truth.

His lies will ruin her. Her silence will keep them safe. The truth won’t save any of them.

Optimism seeps from every pore of my body. I truly believe that what's supposed to happen... will! In that regard, I don't know how to give up; it's not part of my biological make up.

I'm a passionate (and some would say, overly enthusiastic) person. I learn by doing (and have been burned more times that I'd like to admit), but I will always throw my entire self into whatever I do - fail or succeed.

I think this is evident when I write, leaving nothing behind and spilling it all out on the pages. I give it all to my readers - love it or hate it.

The path I'm on is very often my own, veering off the beaten path at the sight of something more interesting or captivating, getting caught in the vines and thorns in order to experience the beauty and intrigue others often pass by. And I always meet the most interesting people along the way...

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️! If I’d Known, book 1 of 4. Lana is caught in a web of deception with danger & several to-die-for heroes & anti-heroes!

“I’ve come to accept that, regardless of how honest or silent I am, the truth is fated to destroy my life.”

If I’d Known (book 1) opens up to everyday life of high school student Lana Peri. Except this will prove to be a day like no other and an opening to a 4-book series.

Lana is smart, rebellious and unpredictable, a good daughter, loyal friend, out-spoken student and an impossible flirt. But most of all she is a truth-teller. And on this day her tongue and being at the wrong places at the wrong time will set in motion a roller-coaster of events she will live to regret.

From disaster at home to drama at school to out and out danger hanging out with the in-crowd at an illegal party, Lana is pulled into a web of deception with powerful players, many potential heroes, anti-heroes and villains and hints of conspiracy in an everchanging plot.

Told from Lana’s POV, it’s an explosive and addictive opening to a story that promises romance, intrigue, suspense and danger. It kept me on my toes while reading and has stayed with me for days after. I am considering hibernation until book 2 in spring of 2018.

“Our curses are instilled in us as virtues, something we should attain and strive to become. Except it’s these traits, the ones we deem to be the most honorable, that cause the most destruction.”

IF I'D KNOWN: Is the first YA thrilling, suspenseful book within the (Cursed) series by the author Rebecca Donovan.

We're all cursed - every single one of us

The heroine Lana Peri isn't what I would call your typical fifteen year old, it's like she's been jabbed with the truth serum, for the life of her she just can't lie, so everything that pops out of her mouth truly has no filter, it's the truth as best as she can give it. She's one tough cookie who really doesn't give a stuff what others think of her. And is very protective and overly loyal to those she allows close to her, especially her mother. There's nothing she wouldn't do for her mother, and through her mother she has learned some very hard life experiences, especially when it comes to love.

After covering a shift at the diner for her mother who had fallen ill, she's dragged off to a party with her bestie where they meet up with the rest of their party, a night that should've been low key and fun turned out to be anything but.

I wasn't sure what to expect when I first started reading this, and being honest it wasn't until I reached halfway where things started picking up, though I'm left with that feeling of 'What the hell did I just read?' because just when I thought we were going in one direction the author took us off in another direction so it seemed like a rabbit warren of stories off one story. And with many questions left up in the air that we won't get our answers to until the next books which I'm really wanting to read, all in all this was a unique enjoyable read.

SURPRISE BOOK RELEASE!

"......the truth is fated to destroy my life."

If I'd Known->Genre: Contemporary YA
Book ONE of FOUR

There's something about this authors writing that pulls me in and makes me care so much for the characters at the heart of the narrative. 'If I'd known,' is the first installment in the cursed series, a new four part suspenseful Young Adult story. Lana Peri is the young adult at the centre of the story and at 15 she's already street wise, independent, protective, and perhaps at times, far too grown up for her own good. She seems to be afraid of nothing and no one and is fiercely loyal to living by her code of integrity, even when a person perhaps doesn't deserve her support.

Lana enjoys a night out with her friends, a night that's supposed to be fun and frivolous but descends into a living nightmare. The carnage of the night made it utterly gripping to read so as their evening unfolded, I literally couldn't put this book down. I had no idea where the story would take me which only magnified as I learnt more and more about the characters at the centre of the dramatic happenings. I have a feeling that the twists and turns of this YA novel will no doubt continue to enhance the story arc and tone of the narrative.

'If I'd Known,' convincingly sets the scene and tone of this authors new world. She pulled me into the depths of the story whilst unveiling each thrilling layer culminating in a suspenseful, gripping ending that has left me thinking and needing more of this story. A great read for those who enjoy YA stories with a gritty edge.

I don't know how to start my review with this book!First of all I need to say that this is my first book from Rebecca Donovan and I was hooked from the beginning, I loved the writing so much, it was beautiful and flawless.

"We’re all cursed—every single one of us. It’s not the compulsions or addictions that will take us down. It’s not greed and lust that will bring us to our knees. Our curses are instilled in us as virtues, something we should attain and strive to become. Except it’s these traits, the ones we deem to be the most honorable, that cause the most destruction."

Lana, the heroine is a very interesting character. She isn't anything similar she is so different and unique. She is tough, strong and fierce. The plot was interesting, there are twists that make me wondering and it was fast paced.

I'm looking forward to see what will happen in the next book!Overall, it was a great story.

‘I wonder if I’m the only one who sees it – the weakness within us. I don’t know if we’re born cursed or if it’s bestowed upon us at some pivotal moment in our lives, but it defines us and ultimately leads to our demise. So we can either accept it or live in denial. Most live in denial, holing out hope for their “Happily ever after.”’

Rebecca Donovan has always had a special place in our reading hearts, her words first stole our breaths over six years ago and she’s never failed to wow us with her stories. They’re always compelling, brilliantly written and have such depth and detail. Along the pages she passes on messages of life and wisdom through her wonderful characters. We’ve been waiting patiently for her next book as we knew we’d be guaranteed that within those pages we’d find her heart and soul intricately woven into her words. We were not wrong. Rebecca Donovan is unique in the way she writes, you’d recognise her words anywhere but you’d only find them in her stories.

‘I’ve come to accept that, regardless of how honest and silent I am, the truth is fated to destroy my life.’

Lana is a very clued up fifteen year old. Hard exterior and a no nonsense attitude that doesn’t suffer fools gladly. She is older than her years in so many ways, yet underneath all that lies a dormant vulnerable teenager. Whilst she seldom makes an appearance we saw glimpses of her. Lana is honesty personified; a sweet and caring daughter to her single Mum whose life is changed dramatically when one fateful night puts her in the company of someone whose actions will have dire repercussions. Secrets, lies and omissions will suddenly turn this honest girl’s life upside down…

“If I can tell you one thing…it’s don’t think that anyone’s ever going to give you anything in this life. If you want it, you have to fight for it, even if that means drawing blood.”

We loved If I’d Known so much we wish we had the next book in this series already. It felt like a step back in time to the books we used to read and love. Old school YA angst if you will. What a fabulous start to a series we just know will be everything we love. Dark, hard hitting, cold and sombre with an innocence that’s been provoked by life.

“Lying is the worst kind of betrayal. Don’t ever lie to protect someone from the truth. Untrue words hurt as much as a knife to the heart.”

”Act the way you want everyone to see you, no matter how you’re really feeling.”

Sometimes you read a book that BLASTS through you like countless cannons catapulting your heart, a heart that pounds out of your chest, where you want to scream it—it being If I’d Known by Rebecca Donovan—to the world!!! I want to scream about this story that struck me hard. My mind is still stuck in this story, wrapped up in this mastery of words that OWNED ME. If I’d Known still OWNS every ounce of me.

Trust, Kindness and Boldness. They sound like the best characteristics to possess. Except they’re the reason for just about everything that’s ever gone wrong.

If I’d Known, this fast-paced young adult romantic thriller, is UNIQUE and UNPUTDOWNABLE. It’s CYNICAL and CRUEL at times. It has moments that are just CREEPY. Yet I found myself WHOLEHEARTEDLY BEGUILED, so BEWITCHED with this GOOSE-BUMP INDUCING BOOK, where I DEVOURED every word as if it were my air to breathe. This tale ENAMORED ME where I couldn't stop reading.

Thrilling and tragically flawed, If I’d Known is a novel so compelling and well-told that it will appeal to older readers as well as young adults. If I’d Known details the life of a troubled teen girl highly attuned to virtues, and delivers a satisfying, but shocking twist ending. The cast of strong characters in this spellbinding saga are simply striking—so full of life—that you can’t help but fall under their spell.

Sassy, smart, and beautiful, the heroine, Lana, is charming without trying at all. She has survived several forms of hell, her young life full of obstacles that would set back most teen girls. However, this teen is wise beyond her years. I LOVED that she’s refreshingly real, brutally honest with sarcasm that is humorous. I admired her honesty and loved her spirit.

I’ve come to accept that, regardless of how honest or silent I am, the truth is fated to destroy my life.

Lana forges a strong bond, a connection full of chemistry, with gorgeous but rebellious Joey during the most unusual of adventures. This heroine and hero MELT together. Their MAGNETIC PULL is unstoppable.

I can’t breathe, but I don’t want to. I grip the front of his shirt, needing to get closer. Needing him. His arm tightened around my waist. I am lost in him, in this kiss.

One night out with friends was fun until it wasn’t.
One night and monsters surfaced from the shadows.
One night possibly altered their lives' paths.
One night almost resulted in their end.
One night would burn in their memories forever.

This is one BANG-UP BOOK!!! If I’d Known is a HEART-POUNDING RUSH, a raw and riveting roller coaster of a romantic toe-curling thriller. I was BREATHLESS from this book that buzzes with excitement and emotion. Intense. Intriguing. Intoxicating. Irresistible. This story stimulates until the end.

If I’d Known is an aspiring young adult novel with an engaging voice, believable characters, clever plot and some sensational writing. Rebecca Donovan pulls you into the story with a PARALYZING INTENSITY where you can’t stop devouring the words until the last page. If I’d Known whets the appetite where you’re left hungry for MORE. Electrifying, emotionally complex, and blisteringly smart, If I’d Known is UTTERLY UNFORGETTABLE.

”Don’t lose yourself to anyone.”

💋💋💋💋💋 honest kisses

“We’re all cursed—every single one of us.”

Lana's curse just happens to be honestly and it is because of her brutal honestly that she doesn't make friends easily. But she does have two best friends, Tori and Nina and all they want to do is enjoy a fun night out. But this one night is anything but, this one night changes everything!!

description

On this particular night she is introduced to a monster who's actions will turn her life upside down. Now she must remain silent to protect her friends but protecting them also saves him.

"Don’t think that anyone’s ever going to give you anything in this life. If you want it, you have to fight for it, even if that means drawing blood.”

This book is fantastic. I hated when I had to put it down!! I can not wait for book 2!!!!

I still didn't even know what it was all about..and then I saw the book was finished???

What?!?!?!?!

Won't read the second book..this one made no impression whatsoever for me to even consider reading the next one.

Also I should have stopped when I saw the girl was 15 ... I am getting too old for the YA books where the girl is under 18..

4.5 stars!!! Boy am I glad that Rebecca Donovan is back and back with a bang. This book is the first in a four book series and really sets the scene for the characters introduced. As ever, Rebecca Donovan's writing completely sucks you in and will have you frantically turning the pages from start to finish and if you are anything like me you will be impatiently waiting for the next instalment.

Lana is only fifteen years old, yet due to family circumstances is wise beyond her years. Unlike most kids, she ALWAYS tells the truth, she will not lie and this has got her into a whole heap of trouble more often that not and makes her come across as rude, offensive and cold at times. Yet, underneath that harsh exterior is a teenager that is lost and who does have a heart, even though she rarely lets it be seen.

Lana finds herself in the wrong place at the wrong time and it is this one event that is set to turn Lana's life on its head. I need the next book now, not only for the plot, but always for Rebecca Donovan's words, boy have I missed them.

"We’re all cursed—every single one of us. It’s not the compulsions or addictions that will take us down. It’s not greed and lust that will bring us to our knees. RECENSIONE COMPLETA QUI: https://thereadingslove.blogspot.com/...

description
L’autrice è bravissima, scrive in modo impeccabile.

I loved all female characters, every one of them was strong and kickass. Lana, Tori and Nina were a true girl gang and I loved them.

However, I expected more from the story itself. Not sure if I'll continue with the series....

What was that?!

It seriously pains my heart to write a review and rate this book. I LOVE Rebecca Donovan and her breathing series is one I often think about and recommend. So this was a very highly anticipated book for me. But I was sadly disappointed. The characters were nothing like they were portrayed, there were several holes in the story (which I know there is another book coming out in 6 mos), and the characters (again) and their persona was just so blah. I was intrigued in the beginning and then it took a swan dive. I had no clue where the story was going. This was huge eye rolling sigh for me.

If I’d known I that this book was going to be unputdownable, I wouldn’t have started it at bedtime. I just spent a day in the life of teenage hell where love and trust paved the way to pain. This wickedly raw and sometimes brutal story had me awash in a sea of emotions. I don’t know who needed a life jacket more me or Lana and her friends. Rebecca Donovan is back and better than ever with her hauntingly addictive new release. I need the next book now.

voto 3.5

Salve amiche, lettrici.

Buona lettura.

I received a copy of this book from the author/publisher to review for Stephanie's Book Reports.

If I'd Only Known is the first book in the Cursed series from Rebecca Donovan. Since this is the first book in this series you should expect a cliffhanger. The second book though is coming out soon so the wait is not long.

Lana Peri isn't afraid of telling anyone exactly what she thinks, even if it gets her in trouble-which it usually does. But the thing is, she can't lie. Her unfiltered honesty doesn't exactly make her many friends, although it does get her kicked out of class regularly. Lana knows the truth will eventually be her undoing. If only she's known it would begin today. It was mean to be a night Lana and her best friends will never forget. And it is...for all the wrong reasons. Lana witnesses not just one, but two violent crimes committed by the same person. Except she can't say a word. Not if she wants to protect her friends. Lana's silence will implicate her and inadvertently cover for him. But it's not like she had a choice. He is powerful. Connected. Untouchable. And a friend of Joey Harrison-the guy Lana is uncharacteristically drawn to the moment they meet. Joey's also the only one who is told the truth. His lies will ruin her. Her silence will keep them safe. The truth won't save any of them.

If I'd Only Know is a quick read. I read it in a day and I am no speed reader. However it does suck you in and is different from most of the books that I read. Lana is a fifteen year old girl who is being raised by a mother who falls in love at the drop of a hat and is devastated when those relationships end. This is her curse. Lana's curse is that she is honest. In high school it gets her in trouble and she spends a lot of time in the principle's office. However tonight her friend Toni want to go out to a high school party which is odd for them as they usually go to bars and parties that the older crowd goes to. She doesn't mind going out with Toni to meet up with a guy that Lana has a class with she just makes it clear that she better not fix her up with his friend. You see, Lana doesn't care what anyone thinks about her. She tells the truth no matter what and it gets her into trouble more often than not. When they get to the party the friend turns out to be Joey Harrison and the connection is immediate between these too which is odd because Lana doesn't have anything to do with boys. From that moment on the night takes a turn you won't see coming and you will just have to read for yourself to find out what. It is a crazy mess and the ending leaves you hanging pretty badly. I enjoyed this book. Its suspenseful, for sure but more to the side of I am trying to figure out just what in the world is actually going on and who is who. I can't wait to dive into the next book to find out what happens though.

Slow and steady start with a punch towards the end...

I was a little confused in the beginning with this story. It definitely took a bit to pick up on, but when it finally did, it was so good. I couldn't stop turning the pages.
I can't believe the main character is on 15 years old! She acts way beyond her years.
Lots of twists in this book that had me begging for more answers, and I cant wait to get them when Knowing You releases at the end of the month.
Good work, Ms. Donovan. A quick mystery filled read.
