But can even an Eversor Assassin kill one of the deadliest warriors in the entire Imperium?
Written by Andy Smillie. Running time: 23 minutes. Performed by John Banks, Tim Bruce, Steve Conlin and Andrew Wincott.
Brutal? Check. High value Black Library production values? Check. One noted? No..... This isnt the typical kind of Flesh Tearer's tale I have come to know! Something's different about you, have you lost weight? Maybe with a change in Seth's VO and a growth in Andy Smile's story telling; Hallelujah, we now have some character development!!!
Like many Flesh Tearer stories; this drama is brutal and yet unlike the others I feel it was a step above what has come before. Usually Flesh Tearer stories are entertaining from the perspective of them essentially behaving like "Angry Marines." Usually this is accompanied by the added bonus of the concept of a Space Marine chapter struggling against their savage nature, vainly attempting to avoid their decent into ruin.
This drama is an enjoyable piece that shows Gabriel Seth's transformation as a character from the previous iterations. He has evolved, his thoughts and feeling as to what it is to be a Flesh tearer has evolved and it is a fascinating thing to listen to... The assassination of a Chapter Master you say? Well this has to be an interesting listen does it not? To which I would say, yes, yes it is!
This drama is short, brutal but ultimately interesting. If you are interested in the title concept or the FT's in general, give this a listen!
A distant sequel to A Son’s Burden, this returns to Nekkaris as Chapter Master Gabriel Seth comes to pay his respects to the men he left behind to die. In the quiet corridors of a shrine built to remember their sacrifice, Seth is confronted by an assassin sent by powerful enemies to remove him from the head of the Chapter.
Gabriel Seth (voiced by Andrew Wincott) and an Eversor assassin (Steve Conlin) – two characters tailor-made for the audio format. This gets right to the heart of the changing way Seth sees the Chapter and his role within it; it’s gripping stuff.
A beautiful example of the show don't tell principle in that it managed to have just the right amount of narration to explain the characters, setting and circumstances but also showed their personalities by the wonderful Voice-acting, tonality, SFX, etc which really brought it to life. I didn't think I'd have liked BA chapters but I am again proved wrong. Also Gabriel Seth would make a great deuteragonist in a YA romance novel
It was okay. As with nearly all Black Library audio productions, the production quality and voice-acting was terrific. The story was okay. It's 40K so I like it, but the Flesh Tearers don't grab my attention as much as others.
Well acted and a interesting story that adds nicely to Seth’s arc. The only negative for me is that Adam Wincott’s portrayal is disconcertingly close to his Adam Macey.
