I shouldn't be surprised by how good this was, it has certainly been popular and they have made a show out of it. I was delighted by how comex the story actually was, and there's so many times where I put the book down and said "wait a minute!" And I suspect kids would too, nicely thought provoking. I'm going to read the next as well. But I'm excited to propose it to my students, I think I'll have a few that will find it worth the effort to get through such a big book.
I really enjoyed this book series (so far, I've not read the 5th book...), since as a story overall, it was really fun. The written characters, and the setting itself, really intrigued me (inclusion of King Arthur's son, not just conventional story characters). I'm really fascinated by fairy tales or fantasy books, so obviously I really liked the series. Without spoiling it, I also thought the story excelled by "going against stereotypes".
