Truth : Part 1

It's my fault she died a year ago.
It's my fault I went out to the woods that night.
It's my fault that her family suffered.
And it's my fault Kellan's heart remains broken.

She's the reason why I can't go on with my life.
She's the reason why I can't sleep at night.
She's the reason why I relive that night in my nightmares.
And she's the reason why her brother wants me dead.

Hello there!

My name is Jessica, and I am a twenty four year old self published author.

At the moment, I am working on my twelfth novel, which I hope to finish and publish by the end of the year. I am very passionate about literature, creative writing and reading books.
In my spare time, I love to be outdoors, going for walks, visiting new places, reading, writing and playing with my two gorgeous cats, Dolly and Pippin. I also enjoy reviewing Korean dramas on my YouTube channel.

I never thought I was going to be a writer. It didn't even cross my mind that writing books was something I was ever going to do. When I was sixteen years old, I was studying Performing Arts in college, preparing for a future in acting. It took me two years to realize that acting wasn't something I wanted to do. At the beginning of the course, my heart was set on becoming an actor, but by the third year, I completely lost interest in it. Acting didn't bring a smile to my face anymore. I think at that point, I started asking myself what it is that I enjoyed doing, and I couldn't think of anything other than reading books.

I believe that everyone can write a story, whether it's a short story or a four hundred page story. The things that our minds come up with is just unbelievable. You are going to have people who either love your book or hate it, but don't let things like that discourage you, because, in the end, you can say that you've written a book. By yourself.

22/04/18: Full Review!

Okay, okay, okay, I'm okay, I promise... I'm okay, yes I am... I SAID I'M OKAY!!!!! D':

Oh I knew there was a reason why I kept trying to push this book away from my currently reading tab
You know, I actually brought this on Amazon the day Jess announced that it was ready? That was on March 19th.
Think on that, I've had this book on my kindle app for a month, one whole month went by just sitting there, waiting to be read.

Why did I not read it sooner? From how Chasing the Alpha ended, I knew my poor heart was going to be broken again and again in this book

And guess what?

IT DID!!!!!

Oh my poor heart, my poor baby Kellan! He is such a sweet, gentle soul and to have his heart crushed! I could not stand it!

Okay now I'm just rambling on, let get back to the important parts

Right, we start exactly where we left off, Max finds out Anna, Ryder's sister, who he presumably killed is alive (don't tell me that's a spoiler because if you are reading this review, you have read the 3 previous books).
But instead of that revelation bringing relief, it brings problems to Max.

Reading more about Max in this story, brought a new perspective of what he is like. I never really liked Max to begin with in the last books. He was always hiding something or trying to prove himself, which I understand why but for some reason, to me that annoyed me more. And he does the same thing again in this book for the most part, which made me mad again! (Sorry Jess, I know how much you love Max, I promise you'll like what I say next!)
But! After being in his head, and hearing what he thinks and what he feels, I can understand why he acts the way he does and I can see that he is a caring person. Especially when it comes to Alice, Anna, even Kellan.
Which is why I like Max more now :)

But it seems that Max has tangled himself in a huge mess in this book, I can't exactly say much more for spoilers, but I promise you, it will be one heck of a ride.

There is definitely a continuation for this series, and I'm hoping there's more than five because this series is too good!
Despite all the heartbreaks and angst, there is a good balance of humour and romance embedded. And I love SAM AND BANE!!!!

Those two brought most of the fun and laughter in this story, it truly was wonderful and hilarious to watch those two interact with one another. They made me laugh so hard! Oh they were good!

But yes, this is a book you need to get asap, its that good! You will not be disappointed. But expect a good cliffhanger at the end ;)

Loved it, loved it loved it! Thanks Jess for a fantastic story!!!! <3

UNMARKED SPOILERS IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THE PREVIOUS BOOK

Honestly, I tried thinking of a way to make it spoiler-free for people who haven't read the previous book but i couldn't because the whole book is based on what happened at the end of the last one lol.

Okay when I found out that Anna was still alive in the last book, I was so shocked omg.

So this book is told from Max and Anna's POV and is about Max's encounter with Anna. We see him trying to come to terms with the idea that the girl he thought he killed was standing in front of him. For some reason, Anna does not remember what happened to her all those months ago and is trying to figure everything out. Together with Max, they try figuring out what happened to her.

It was so nice to see the crew again because I missed them. Unfortunately, Alice wasn't in this but Ryder was so I was fine lol. I loved Anna and Ryder's sibling moments, it was so cute. Lol Bane and Sam are still perves but they cracked me up omg. Kellan, my sweet boy . I liked how involved Bane was in this and was surprised to see that he's lowkey knowledgeable and not as stupid as he pretends to be. I hope that gets explored in the future. I'm curious about him. And that end... I have so many questions lol

Overall, this was an easy to read, interesting book!

Okay. It’s time for me to write this amazing review. I’ve sat in traffic for two hours trying to get to work on time and failed. I’m about to have my second cup of coffee so hopefully everything makes sense in this review.

Warning: tons of spoilers.
Maybe
Sort of
Read at your own risk bitches

Truth: Part 1 was fucking amazing. Oh should I have warned you that I’ll probably cuss in this review? No? Okay.

Okay so we are back into this wolf packs world and I am so freaking happy. I wanted to know how everyone was and what everyone was doing. Plus after the cliffhanger I was basically dying inside because ANNA WAS FREAKING ALIVE. yup. The dead girl isn’t dead. Meanwhile I’m wondering how the duck Ryder never knew? Like didn’t he realize his parents were away for too long? Or that they could’ve been hiding this huge secret from him? I mean we all knew his parents sucked major balls and were evil from the beginning so it didn’t really surprise me what they did to poor Anna. It made me cringe though. So much cringing!

Now Anna was such a lovable character. I felt so bad for her because she could only remember her parents. Like how awful would it be to have people tell you you have a brother and for you not wanting to hear or believe that. Then the whole Kellan thing I was kind of sad about but I seriously needed Max to move on from Alice. Like real quick.

Speaking of Alice. I AM SO MAD I DIDN’T SEE HER IN THIS BOOK. I BETTER GET A WHOLE BUNCH OF ALICE IN THE NEXT ONE DAMMIT!

Then there’s Sam and Bane. Their relationship is weird but cute. It’s like a train wreck that you can’t look away from. You know it’s weird and bad for you to watch but you still keep on doing it.

Then there’s the slight family reunion between Anna and Ryder which was kind of bittersweet and a little underwhelming. I just want Ryder to forgive Max and move on with his life. HOT DAMN! Does he not realize that he has Alice?!?

Back to the Kellan thing, I’m sad because he still loves her and she still loves him but I also didn’t think they were going to become an item again. I just really like her and Max. They share an awful moment in history that they both regret and it gave them a chance to heal and talk about it. I love them together and I definitely want to see more of that.

Overall, I loved this book. I read it in like an hour but took way too long to write this review. Damn you sleep and work!! I’m not a fan of cliffhangers because god damn it Jessica you are really good at them. I NEED PART TWO ASAP!

This was awesome.
From the beginning of the story, it had my heart scared and excited as well. Anna!
Truth : Part 1 will surely tell you all the truth you need to know and satisfy your questions which you had at the end of Chasing the Alpha.
I can't really reveal anything because it'll end up being a spoiler. But you must read it!

Thankyou Jessica Edwards for the free ebook for an honest review. The fact that I got a free ebook doesn't affect my opinion :)

The author, Jessica, was kind enough to send me this book : thank you very much once again !

Disclaimer : as I'm not a native English speaker, there might be a couple of mistakes/typos, sorry !
And, there are probably SPOILERS beneath this point !

Truth : Part 1 by Jessica Edwards
Read : 2018/13/03
Rating : 3.75 stars

Once again, I was not disappointed by Jessica's book.

What I'm really impressed with is the tone of the book, that is very different from the previous ones and brings a kind of novelty to the series. It had this cuteness and softness about it but still tensions regarding notably the end (ANOTHER CLIFFHANGER).

The fact that the narrators are ones that weren't really put forward before is also quite interesting. I thought that I would miss Alice so bad but Jessica made all the other characters stand out so much that I barely felt that (I'm still excited to see her again maybe in part 2?!). I learnt so much about Max and you-know-who (trying to not spoil it for whoever hasn't read my spoiler disclaimer ahead). However, I would maybe have liked a bit more development regarding Sam and Bane.

Truth : Part 1 still had a point in common with the previous books : it was a quick, easy and enjoyable read that could get anyone out of a book slump for sure. I, myself, read it in about an hour and couldn't put it down !

Concerning the fifth (already??) book, I would love to see more of Max, Ryder, you-know-who and Alice because they are my favorite characters from the series. I would love to KNOW WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE CLIFFHANGER :'') !

Everybody who read Chasing the Alpha, you need to know what happens next, trust me !

Me: I'm just going to read a little before I go to sleep.
Me a few hours later: Oh my, I can't believe I just read it in one sit.
*4.5* My only problem is the insta-love situation.
I have to say I have no idea what's going to happen, and that's exciting.
I really love Anna, and Kellan just broke my heart.

Book: The Truth: Part 1
Author: Jessica Edwards
Rating: 4 Out of 5 Stars

I would like to thank Jessica Edwards for providing me with a free copy. I am so sorry that it’s taken me this long to get the review posted. I ended up getting more ARCs than I thought I would.

I am going to start out by saying: Do not read this one unless you have read the other books in the series. It’s not going to make any sense to you whatsoever if you haven’t read the other three books. Jessica does a really good job at picking up right where the previous book left off, which can make it hard for new readers to jump right into the middle of the series.

Okay, so Jessica has always been a rather talented author in my book. However, the progress of her writing and world building is just getting so much better with each novel. I am truly impressed. Not only has the writing improved, but the overall quality of the story has as well. I simply cannot wait to see what she pulls out next year.

I like how the focus was on Max and Anna. You know…I do love the main characters in the series, but sometimes, the more minor characters need their chance to shine. I really don’t think Max and Anna’s story could had come out as well if it was thrown in with Alice’s. By giving them their own book, we get a lot of character growth for these two characters, as well as an insight to their thoughts. Once again, I really don’t think this could had come across in a story shared with Alice.

I really enjoyed reading about Anna’s struggle with remembering who she was and coming to grip with it. I thought it really added more the story and filled in a few holes in the other books. I loved how Anna was portrayed as being both weak and strong at the same time. I mean, she really does have no other choice but to rely on others to help her get through the difficult times.

Max is another dark character in the series. By seeing him take Anna in, we get to see a side of him that I don’t think could had come across at a better time. Now, I don’t really remember Max’s character being as well developed in the other books. So this one was the prefect chance for him to have his time to shine.

Overall, a good book. It’s short and has a cliff hanger, but it is for sure worth your time!

I love this series! Thank you, Jessicaaaa! Thank you, thank you! 🙏 I’m so happy I got the chance to read the books from this series and can’t wait to read the next one. I’m so curious what’s gonna happen next. Because the ending... I would have never expected that. Who is she? Because this time, I have no clue...
And all those GOT references! You go girl! I’m a Game of Thrones fan myself. 😏
Another breath of fresh air was the playlist from the beginning of the books. I knew the original songs, but some of the covers were really good (not to mention that I didn’t even know those bands 🙈). But I appreciate the effort. The playlists were nice.
When will I get to read the next book? I really want to know what the future has in store for Max and Anna.

Frankly, this was disappointing.

As usual, Jessica has made us dumb with that cliffhanger of an ending, but this book was a bit problematic for me to actually enjoy it.

⭕ The plot starts right from where the previous book stops, and that’s one thing I love about this series.

⭕ This is what one of the characters has to say when someone says their parents had divorced -

“ But still, it’s such a shame when two parents used to love each other just fall out of love and separate. That’s awful.

Oh, right, we needed her to remind us.

⭕ And this is what a guy thinks of the girl he only just met a day or two ago –

“The last thing I want to be is the guy that makes her cry.
Instead, I want to be the guy that makes her smile and only smile”

That’s called dynamic love, peeps.

⭕ Oh, also I got to learn how to make sausages, stir-fried bacon, noodles and what not? Look –

“After preparing the sausages, I snip a few small cuts into the fatty edge of the bacon, and place the bacon straight on to the grill to fry. Next I brush any dirt off from the mushrooms using a pastry brush and then trim the stalks so that they’re level with the mushroom tops. Add salt, and pepper and drizzle it over the olive oil. For the tomatoes, I cut them half lengthways ….

Blah.. blah..blah.. I don’t remember signing up for cooking classes?

Max’s pov was utterly stupid. He acted soo stupid and foolish; I’ve lost all my love for him.

⭕ Like, he could have saved a lot of trouble for himself and everybody else if he only had acted right from the start.

⭕ Also, the repetitions in every pov through the characters thoughts were absolutely unnecessary this time. Lots of unnecessary drama could have been avoided.

⭕ And cussing for the sake for it? Made me sick.

⭕ Besides Sam never opened her mouth other than to talk about how she and Bane had sex last time, it was ridiculously unbelievable.

⭕ The whole book was dragged on; nothing really happened most of the time, instead of people saying how wrong they were.

⭕ The triskelion cure for lost memories? Gross.

⭕ I mean, there’s a limit to being gross, and I would’ve really drawn the line at drinking your parents and brothers’ blood.

The descriptions of shape-shifting and transformations were really detailed and well done. Though I would’ve liked it a bit short.

⭕ Sorry, but there was no real development between Max and Anna and their romantic plotline completely ruined whatever little I liked in the book.

⭕ But that ending really made me curious. Already waiting for the next book.

⭕ Also, PLEASE, WE NEED ALICE!!!

This book is really different from The others. Here most important characters are Max and a girl he met at The end of book 3. I was so curious wgag will happen There.
Mysrery, secrets, resolving a Case od a mysrery girl. This book will keep you on toes with every revelation revealed. And The ending - I can Tell it was for sure unexpected.
Good read.

I enjoyed the first three books in the Small Town series. There were things I didn't like about them, but overall, I liked the stories. Chasing the Alpha ends on a cliffhanger, so I was excited to see that Jessica Edwards was writing a fourth book to continue the story. I was even more excited because the book would be from Max's perspective, and Max was one of my favorite characters in the first three books.

What I didn't like:
-Not enough action!!!! The first three books are filled with action. There are tons of fight scenes and major conflicts that occur. In Truth...nothing really happens. I kept waiting for the buildup, for something huge to take place that would once again shake Small Town. You could say Anna's return does that, but it's the inciting incident in this plot, not the major conflict. In fact, it really happens at the end of Chasing the Alpha.
-No Alice, not enough Kellan, not enough Sam, not enough banter between the pack members (these, I realize, are personal preferences)
-The cursing and sexual references (I know, another personal preference; I don't mind cursing--it's usually necessary, but sometimes, it's just not--and the sex...the humour is funny, but Sam and Bane...I just can't...they're in high school!! Maybe I'm just old, but they really worry me...).
-Out of character moments for Anna. She's all nice and sweet, she wouldn't hurt a fly, but then, she suddenly makes a reference to the relative size of her brother's d***, and it's a little jarring, to say the least.
-Insta-love (and )
-Minor because I know it's been mentioned before, and I know the author is aware...the editing (this book may have been more rushed than the others, but it does need more time)
(A side note of confusion: the parents. We know what has happened to some of them, but these characters are still kids, and I don't understand how they just come and go as they please, and nobody's like, "Where's my kid?" or "I don't want a bunch of teens living in my big, fancy house in the woods alone?" Again, I may just be old, but I don't get it)
What I did like:
-Max!!! His personality is adorable and funny. I like that he admits he's not a "tough guy" and is afraid of Ryder. I also LOVE that he hates Ryder because I don't care for him either.
-Anna's p.o.v. I like hearing from her. She's different than Alice, refreshingly so.
-The brother/sister relationship between Anna and Ryder. If I have to see Ryder, I much prefer him with his sister than with Alice (not in a Game of Thrones way).
-The shifting scenes. Jessica Edwards can write a shift scene. I mentioned in my review of Chasing the Omega that I'm not a paranormal fan, so I'm not really sure how these scenes compare to other books, but these are very detailed, very specific, seem to be anatomically accurate (I'm an English teacher, not a science teacher, but they work for me), and are easy to envision. In the same line, her nature descriptions. I feel like the author spends time outdoors and loves her surroundings. The nature scenes are written with great care.
-Any scenes with Sam in them--she's crass and loud and rude and has no filter, and she's probably my favorite character. I love her personality, and even though her remarks can be pretty surprising sometimes, they always make sense coming from her.
-The ending! Another cliffhanger but a good one, and if the next part will contain what I think it will, nice foreshadowing done by the author too .

Okay, so overall, I was happy to be back in the world of Small Town. I was happy to revisit these characters. My biggest complaint of all above is that not enough happens in the novel. I know it's Part One, but because it was released separately, and I'm not sure when Part Two will be out, it needs its own action to keep it going and lead into Part Two with higher tension and suspense. Does this mean I'm NOT going to read Truth Part Two or any other books set in Small Town? Of course, not. I am going to read Truth Part Two. I want to know what happens, and I'll read anything else Jessica Edwards set in Small Town and/or containing any of these characters.
Recommended to Small Town fans and to fans of paranormal fiction.

Well, what was that end?
It can’t end like that!!

I NEED ANSWERS.

Finding out that Anna was alive was a plot twist that I wasn’t expecting it. And I had to know how thing would go down, because the major mystery in previous book was who had killed Anna and why, and then we find out who and why, but not only that but that she hadn’t die. SHE’S ALIVE. All in the last few chapters.

I really liked Anna character, how calm and thoughtful she is, I was thinking I was going to read a book about a broken girl, not one with so much happiness. And I absolutely adore it.
The romance I was expecting it since the bloody start of the book, because honestly you could smell the love and attraction without the need to be a wolf 🐺. (Get it?lol, that was awful).

I don’t know, I didn’t like this book as much as the others. The writing is great. It picks up right where the last one left off. But I felt like it was more a filler. Nothing really happens to me until the very end, like last few pages very end. It was pretty much just them chilling and talking and reintroducing Anna. Nothing exciting happened to me.

I love this book just make sure you read the first 3: Chasing the Omega (1), Chasing the Beta (2) and Chasing the Alpha (3). the past is explained and more questions arise.
The characters are very well developed, likable and relatable. The story line is incredible keep you on the edge of your seat wanting to read faster just so you know what happens!! The cliff hanger is the best. I look forward to more books from Miss Edwards.

Editing

This book was good but it and the first series need to be edited. Sentences shouldn’t end in the next chapter and some of the chapters end before they should. It’s still a really good book just made me want to pull out my computer and edit it myself.
