Had some really good stuff, Twin Peaks, the musical, but also some weird things that didn't scan, pencils when crayons were mentioned, a musical becoming a play... It's interesting though to see how different Ed and Esther were growing up, basically exact opposites, Ed would have been crushed under Esther's boots.
A solid 3 stars as Allison and Co. give us some backstory on Ed. Young Ed's story is wrought with school, first crush, first heartbreak, and longing. Not to mention I know now that Daisy and Susan distress with coloring books.
"Maybe it'll be a very special episode. The one where Esther gets her stomach pumped."
After once again playing the hero to Esther's damsel in distress, Ed is rewarded with a night on the town. 10 pubs in 1 night. What could go wrong? But as the night progresses Ed finally opens up about his past. We also get more dirt on Esther and yes, it's as bad as you think. Eventually the drunken sods head home only for Ed to reveal a huge secret! Looks like this really will be a night to remember.
It was really interesting learning more about Ed. I've always liked him as a character and I'm glad he's developed so well through the series. All in all, a really fun issue with some great art.
This issue was FANTASTIC! I love Esther and Ed’s dynamic, and they’re just incredibly fun to read. The blend of backstory and getting to know each other more was interesting in every aspect, and THAT ENDING was very satisfying despite the cliffhanger.
Went into this expecting to roll my eyes, as I’m not really much of an Ed fan. But I was wrong! Poor Ed, great flashbacks, and an irritating cliffhanger. Next!!
Hmm.. so I think I'm starting to dislike Esther a little. The more we see of the other charecters back story the more depth they seem to have where as Esther remains shallow and self centred. So she's good to the girls and sometimes to people who she knows she can't compete with (like Emilia).. but what about everyone else? Hoping this subsides soon because I love this series!
What a wonderful book. Ed Gemmel is a perfect cupcake of a person. And once again the artist does a wonderful job of over-emphasizing expressions and movements for drama and comedic effect. Also, the way hair is portrayed in these books is wonderful.
