“Lower me on to the burning boat, I need to rescue Steed.” 😹😹😹 “It’s not over until the fat lady swims.” “I’m afraid that bomb couldn’t blow up a balloon.” Absurdly perfect! Perfect!

Well, even if the voices are completely wrong for John Steed (originated by Patrick Macnee) and Emma Peel (originated by Diana Rigg), the characterizations are pretty well spot on. This was a comically delightful audio-drama that could almost have been lifted right out of the series. Almost. But not quite. And, of course, the quality of the voices themselves was distracting at times; this is problematic as, at least for me, the real ... ah hmm ... appeal of the series was the incomparable and unflappable Patrick Macnee and the unbeatable and incorrigible Dame Diana Rigg. But to give these actors credit, they didn’t even try to mimic the voices. Good on them. Without the originators of these roles, it’s just not the same, in fact I’d almost have enjoyed it more had the characters not been named John Steed & Emma Peel. Had that been the case, things would have been a near perfect homage to the series. A series which I honestly feel is such a classic of 20th century television that it’s almost sacrilege to attempt to recast it. Still, this was fun, silly and completely entertaining.
