Аніме набагато краще за мангу, хоча і сильно криваве)
Отже щодо манги.
На Кена Канекі нападає гуль. Монстр гине при незрозумілих обставинах а Кен смертельно поранений, тому йому пересаджують органи гуля. Він сам перетворюється на гуля і зустрічає інших гулів, які йому допомагають. Але він відмовляється їсти людське мясо і депресує тому що він і не людина і не гуль.
Далі зявляються мисливці на гулей, що додає небезпеки. І все.
Загалом, сюжет, як і його подача, занудний, не цікавий та дуже розтягнутий. Якщо гуля замінити на вампіра, історія не змінилася б і була б такою ж вторинною. Як на мене, тут серйозна проблема з головним героєм. Але не тільки)
Велику негативну роль відіграла рисовка. Вона препогана. Здається сама історія вполовину коротша, і видно що є непогано промальовані окремі моменти, але для манги все сильно розтягнули, вставляючи купу однакових фонів з і купу непотребу для діалогів. Автор не вміє малювати людей під різними ракурсами, показувати різні емоції лиць і не знайомий з анатомією тіла людини, тому тіла непропорційні та деформовані, лице героя просто мультяшне, наче малювала дитина. Багато сцен з битвою були просто місивом, де я не могла нічого розібрати. Я досі не розумію як виглядає гуль і його кігті.
Можливо і не все так погано, але для мене це було не цікаво, вторинно і без атмосфери.
Мені здалося що автор круто малює окремі ілюстрації. Тобто образи героїв або якісь масштабні картинки на сторінку чи дві.
І хоча аніме взяло тільки історію, загубивши стиль тих образів що придумав автор, ставши зовсім мультяшним. Воно вийшло значно цікавішим)

This is a review of the entire series.
Tokyo Ghoul begins with a streak of incredibly bad luck disguised as good luck. Reports of strange murders involving cannibalism and monster attacks have been haunting the city of Tokyo. What started as rumors quickly becomes reality as more and more victims show up dead. The creatures behind the attacks are believed to be ghouls. They don’t quite fit the normal definition of ghouls, they’re not hideous, rotting, undead monstrosities. They look like humans, they talk like humans, they act and even pretend to eat like normal humans, there’s no way of telling a ghoul from a human until you end up as their next meal. Ken Kaneki and his childhood friend Hide continue to laugh the incidents off as superstitious rumors and continue about their daily life as they normally would.
Things start to seem too good to be true when the shy and socially awkward bookworm Kaneki scores a date with the girl of his dreams, a beautiful, mature and intelligent young woman named Rize. Not only is Rize completely out of Kaneki’s league, but she also happens to share his infatuation with complex horror literature and philosophy. Things seem to be going unusually well for Kaneki, but it turns out that his lovely date is only interested in his body—eating his body, to be more specific. (And not in the hot kinky way either.)
Rize is not only an extremely dangerous ghoul, but she’s what’s known as a binge eater; ghouls that kill and consume without remorse or concern of the population or the safety of other ghouls. She’s the one responsible for most of the brutal killings and cannibalism incidents in the area and poor Kaneki just so happens to be her latest target. Just like that, a dream date quickly descends into a bloody nightmare as Kaneki is nearly tortured to death by Rize in an empty construction site where no one can hear his cries of pain.
Kaneki seems to get lucky when Rize slams him around the construction site and ends up knocking a large hunk of metal down on herself from all the destruction she caused, and ends up killing herself by accident just before she can deliver the final blow to Kaneki. The commotion causes a disturbance in the neighborhood and police are called to investigate the scene. The nearly dead Kaneki is rushed to the hospital along with the corpse of the bloodthirsty ghoul Rize so her organs can be transplanted into Kaneki.
All’s well that ends well, right? Wrong. The streak of bad luck continues. The morally questionable rescue of Kaneki ends up transforming him into the first half-human half-ghoul hybrid because of the ghoul organs implanted in his body. Losing his taste for his favorite foods, developing violent urges and twisted desires to consume the flesh of his fellow humans, Kaneki is forcefully pulled into the demented underworld of ghoul society which has existed alongside human society for many years in secret.
Kaneki has no choice but to adapt to the ways of the ghouls if he wants to survive, all while keeping his identity a secret and trying to live a normal human life. Thus begins a tragic horror story where a psychologically tortured boy is constantly exposed to the worst aspects of human nature and the savagery of ghoul society. Is Kaneki the first ever outcast that doesn’t belong to human or ghoul society, or is he the first and only person that has the potential to bring the two clashing societies together? Kaneki begins to realize that there’s more to the incident with Rize and the surgery that changed him forever, and he slowly unravels the secrets of the nastiest ghouls and the most corrupt humans working in mysterious ways behind the scenes. After a while, you’ll begin to question who the real monsters are.
Caught between two dangerous worlds, Kaneki grows through immeasurable suffering, bridging the gap between humans and ghouls by learning to love and fear them in equal measure. Tokyo Ghoul builds an emotional story about morality, discrimination and self-discovery. It utilizes the literary themes of Kafka such as metamorphosis and the exploration of absolute gray morality.
Kaneki’s development is literally an emotional roller coaster. He goes through so many changes in beliefs, morals, personality and identity that he struggles to keep track of who he really is as all of the different sides of himself constantly try to conquer and slaughter each other in his severely fractured brain. He can’t decide if he wants to fight against humans for the sake of the ghouls, to fight against ghouls for the sake of humans, or try to come up with some crazy master plan to fight against both of them or neither of them in order to find a way to stop the conflict between all sides once and for all. All these confusing thoughts and morals create a storm inside him and the greatest conflict of all is perhaps the conflict of Kaneki’s own conflicted sense of identity.
Overall, the story has a strong start that immediately throws you into a dark and twisted drama, a tedious middle section that's held back by pacing issues, poorly explained terminology and too many unimportant side characters that don’t get nearly enough development or screen time, but it gets back on its feet with a really strong final few arcs that leave you with many questions and potential answers regarding human morality. It has an impressively large cast connected by limitless plot twists and clever intricacies, deep protagonists with many layers, flashy fight scenes with unique weapons and bodily horror mechanics called Kagune, and it pulls on the heartstrings as you slowly begin to realize that humans and ghouls have a lot more in common than either one would care to admit.

Pretty cool, although some of what is going on can get a bit confusing sometimes when there’s a lot of mashed art and writing but still very cool. I think if you’re trying this one you’ll like it a lot more after you finish this one, towards the end once things are established it gets juicy

Гіківське ком’юніті не дуже любить, коли смажать його священних корів. Спробуйте висловити негативну думку про “Відьмака” чи “Володаря Кілець” - і вам будуть доводити, що ви не маєте права її висловлювати.
“Токійський Гуль” - популярне аніме, яке традиційно треба або любити, або мовчати. То ж спробую не мовчати про мангу, яка була його першоджерелом. І манга ця… в перших двох томах прохідна. Мова саме про них, про затравочні книжки. Кажуть, що треба перебороти себе, бо далі стає цікавіше, але поки що на самому старті не дуже цікаво.
Звичайний японський студент любить літературу та тинятися по кафегах. Чергова кафега розташована не в тому районі, нова знайома виявляється не того ж біологічного виду, що сам студент. В результаті студент поступово починає перетворюватись на гуля; виявляється, що гулей навкруги повнісінько, вони територіальні і слідують певним правилам (ну, це ж манга, без пояснень правил нікуди). Гулі жеруть людей та намагаються не палитися. А не паляться вони тим, що вчаться поводити себе як звичайні люди та імітують споживання людської їжі, яку насправді на дух переносити не можуть, бо вона для них як лайно. Акцент прямо на цьому зроблений, бо ж саме так гуля виявити і можна, якщо його в людному місці верне від перепічки. Я серйозно кажу, для мисливців на гулів спостереження за тим, як хто їсть - чи не один з найефективніших способів виявити монстра. Прямим текстом про “спецслужби з нагляду за етикетом”. Це точно не твір для 12-тирічних дівчаток?
Відповідно, якщо вже і наш головний герой став гулем, то можна і акценти змістити, і в сіру мораль погратися, і трохи шокувати читача. Монстри інколи людяніші за мисливців. Хто б міг подумати, так? “Оригінальна” концепція, нічого не скажеш. Але добре, хай так, я ж не знаю поки, що там у наступних томах: може, заграє ідея свіжими фарбами. Монстри їдять людське м’ясо - з цим, мабуть, теж якось попрацюють в наступних томах. Бо як ні - ну дуже сумнівно тоді співпереживати головному герою. В перших двох томах від просто відмахувався від гульських харчів. Може, він лише поганців буде жерти… Весь спротив головного героя своїй новій природі виглядає дуже стандартно і не чіпляє. В кількох моментах він робить дивний вибір, та й взагалі виглядає як той, хто вічно шукає собі семпая. Тобто підлеглий безхарактерний персонаж. Ніяких амбіцій стати місцевим Хокаге, переляканий, у вічних сумнівах.
І під фінал другого тому головний герой отримує маску, аби його було краще косплеїти на різних конвентах. Для гулей маска - то святе, бо не впізнають, якщо гуль прикриється маскою і когось вполює.
Оскільки жанрово це сейнен, то мало би бути багато шок-контенту. В мене шок викликає лише те, як намаловані бійки: ледь розбереш, хто кого і як вдарив. Добре хоч, що назви прийомів вголос не викрикують. І якщо не враховувати всю частину з насильством, манга намальована на пристойному рівні.
Українська офіційна адаптація відсутня як явище.

Меня эта манга не впечатлила от слова совсем.
В мире существуют существа, которые питаются человечиной. И так получилось, что наш главный герой влюбился в девушку, которая как раз и оказалась упырем. Чисто случайно он выжил, а девушка погибла и ее желудок пересадили ему. Из-за чего парень стал на половину упырем и не может есть обычную еду и у него появились новые возможности. При этом мы видим упырей, которые ему помогают и охотников на упырей, которые медленно, но верно истребляют это кодло.
Тупость главного героя меня просто поражала. Ясно что упыри пытаются человеческим мясом, в кафе его доставляют не марая руки, как сказать (странная фраза, но все таки). При этом главный герой каждый раз спрашивает, а зачем пришли эти люди (читай: упыри), а что вы мне дали, что я не чувствую голод и т.д.? Ну правда, эта раскачка просто бесила. То он будет бороться с упырями, а тут он уже будет против охотников. С чего вдруг? Лично меня не убедили в том, что посетители кафе никого не убивают и как-то сопереживать им я точно не буду...
На кой вообще главному герою маска... тем более такая ужасная. Мне кажется у маньяков они не такие жуткие. Предполагалось что маска должна скрывать глаза упыря, но она наоборот привлекает слишком много внимания. Ладно та повязка, можно подумать что глаз болит, была операция или еще чего, а тут притащили маску, в которой один глаз виден.
Рисовка неплохая, но сцены боев просто ужасны, ничего не понять и не разобрать. Главный из охотников просто просится на роль главного маньяка в мире... Это же надо его таким нарисовать...

То он будет бороться с упырями, а тут он уже будет против охотников. С чего вдруг? Лично меня не убедили в том, что посетители кафе никого не убивают и как-то сопереживать им я точно не буду...
На кой вообще главному герою маска... тем более такая ужасная. Мне кажется у маньяков они не такие жуткие. Предполагалось что маска должна скрывать глаза упыря, но она наоборот привлекает слишком много внимания. Ладно та повязка, можно подумать что глаз болит, была операция или еще чего, а тут притащили маску, в которой один глаз виден.
Рисовка неплохая, но сцены боев просто ужасны, ничего не понять и не разобрать. Главный из охотников просто просится на роль главного маньяка в мире... Это же надо его таким нарисовать...

Tokyo Ghoul 2

I took this out of the library. It had a strong cover, so I gave it a shot. Very nice. It seemed fairly typical (from what little I know about Manga). A character is half human and half ghoul, trying to live peacefully in both worlds – but the worlds won’t let him. These ghouls are a step up from just being creatures who eat human flesh – they have all sorts of anime powers too. I liked the story arcs included here – a little bit teenage soap-opera, a little bit anime fighting scenarios, and a little bit of horror told with pathos, also, cool stuff with masks, threatening government agencies (doves – ghoul hunters),and the occasional grand touch (when the characters visit a young girl (a ghoul) who has suffered a loss (her mother), they find the character lounging on a couch with her back to them – an eerie touch). The artwork is very good – sometimes sparse, sometimes great. Tropes abound, but over all, nicely done!

It has a very gripping ch1 and then a solid built up to the story that is about to unfold.
The art is not my favorite thing just yet, however I’m excited to see it develop.
