All Grace Copeland wants is a mate. The good news is that for the last year she’s known that Jack Taylor is her mate. The bad news is that he wants nothing to do with her. When he publicly rejects her, Grace’s world comes crashing down. Humiliated and angry with herself, Grace decides it’s time to get her life in order. Moving to the outskirts of town, she starts rebuilding her family cabin and her life. Alone in the middle of the woods, Grace becomes the target for a group of untraceable rogue wolves. With her life in danger, she has no choice but to accept help from the man who rejected her. All Jack Taylor wants is to be left alone. He definitely doesn’t need a nosy mate like Grace Copeland. Especially when there are rogue wolves attacking local Packs. Jack has better things to do than spending his time avoiding Grace. When she suddenly moves out of town he should feel relieved but he can’t stop thinking that he made a huge mistake by rejecting her. He also can’t ignore the feeling that she is in danger. The only problem now is that Grace doesn’t want him in her life anymore. With rogues closing in Jack decides she doesn’t have much of choice in the matter.

I am a writer from Seattle. Growing up in the woods listening to stories about ghosts, monsters and myths I learned to love the things that go bump in the night. I currently live in the South where there are a lot of haunted hunts to investigate. My overactive imagination makes for fun writing.

I liked it and wanted to give it more stars, but felt like it copped out at the end. There's no real grovelling and he never takes her side against the mean people in town who have been making her life hell the past year (which was ultimately his fault!).

It's the old 'my mate don't want me' trope. And in fact it turned out, a lot of the town didn't either.
So a really sucky beginning to the story for Grace.
She has a handful of friends, but a lot of the town seems to have chosen her mate (who has only lived there a year) over her. They warn him when she is near so he can avoid her. He has been actively avoiding her the entire year since he came to town and met her. Why? well he was a bit of a sad neglected childhood that has proven to him that mating isn't all it's cracked up to be. Well there's a big boo-hoo...

So Grace after humiliating herself for a year trying to corner him and find out why he won't talk to her, finally gives up. She gives up after he tells her to her face that he doesn't want her.
She moves out of town to her family's old cabin and hires a hunky shifter from the next town to fix it up. So now there's someone for Jack to be jealous of.
Lord i wish she had spent the night with this guy, but -sigh- it doesn't happen.
And why the F not???!
I mean Jack has no trouble getting with other women over the previous year. So why does Grace have to stay celibate?
Stupid double standards that's why! Why can't she get horny when the OM kisses her??? Why doesn't Jack's libido take a nose dive too?

Jack gets growly and stuff after she moves out of town and more so when he meets the competition, but he doesn't get wise til Grace is almost killed by rogue wolves.

So now's the suspenseful side of the story. There's a group of rogue wolves that are working with black magic. We don't get much info on them and I have no idea how the thing they are looking for ended up in Grace's cabin. It's never explained and that was rather odd.

I liked how Jack finally came around to seeing how wonderful Grace was, but I wasn't impressed with his lack of grovel. I skimmed the sex, because I kept thinking about him doing it with the other women he'd taken home from the bar. It just didn't seem special and it made Grace seem desperate that she caved in so quickly.
...and she was already pathetic after chasing him for a year.
In his mind he feels bad for the way the townspeople were treating her, and to give him credit, he was unaware of all that. Yet, as an enforcer you would think he'd notice things more!

So overall I liked the writing and would have loved the story if it didn't make the h into such a doormat by the end.

Safety is not good unfortunately

Rejected mate stories are one of my most favorite genres. I love all the heartache and angst and devastation these stories churn out.

I was super psyched to dive into this baby. I just knew the angst was going to be off the charts with that yummy cover and that enticing blurb!

Yep, I was VERY wrong. There was pretty much ZERO angst in this story. No heartbreak or gutting devastation. AT ALL.

That being said, once I figured out I had the punked addition of the rejected mate story, I still wanted to know the secret mystery, so I finished this one to the end. The story wasn't too awful. The characters were a little stiff, and I honestly didn't feel any connection between the two of them. The romance was very luke warm, but the story was still readable. My advice is you should skip this one if you are looking forward to a gutting angst fest, but if you just want to read a bland werewolf mystery, this is the one for you.

If hero would have stayed celibate after he found his mate, then this book would be solid 4 stars. But he had one night stands and heroine knew about each one. Heroine still stalked him... no pride
Also that "epic" groveling.. it took him half a day from the time he changed his mind... like maybe 6h and he was fucking heroine.
Weak weak heroine

2 ⭐⭐ - Meh!
============

New author for me.
The premise of the story is interesting, but when he rejects his mate and goes out with other women, the story has lost several stars.
She practically runs after him for a whole year and he rejects her with the help of the other inhabitants. The poor thing is humiliated and mocked daily.
I like when the mates meet and nothing and no one can stop them from being together, the momentum is greater and the encounter is explosive. When the hero has deliberately chosen to ignore his mate, there is not enough grovel to forgive it.
But the author writes well and I'll keep an eye on the next book.

Somehow, Jack Taylor had roped the whole town into helping him avoid Grace. Not that he had done it knowingly. They’d helped him without being asked.

“Being pathetic is one thing, but I’m turning into a creep! That man doesn’t want anything to do with me and I’m stalking him all around town.” Grace sniffed.

Grace laughed weakly.  “Based on what I overheard Becky Jameson say at the bar last night, we might need Clydesdales to pull a parade float of that man’s junk.”

“Why doesn’t he want me?”

“The town is doing Mr. Taylor a favor by keeping you away from him.” “Pearl,” Dale warned.

He would finally be able to relax without having to look over his shoulder for Grace Copeland. Jack groaned at the thought of her. The woman was never far from his mind. She haunted him.

“We were having a perfectly good meal and you had to ruin it by bringing her up.” Jack wiped his mouth. He didn’t want to admit that he had been thinking about Grace. “It’s bad enough that everyone in town dogs me about Grace, don’t start too.”

“You can’t avoid her forever. If you really want to stop the gossiping then you should just tell her she is wrong, that you’re not her mate.” Ben’s eyes narrowed. “That is the case isn’t it?”

“The man has taken a girl home every time he’s gone to the bar. Everybody in town has noticed. No way he’d be doing that if Grace was his mate.”

She was his mate. The only problem was that Jack didn’t want a mate.

“You know me. Can you see a man like me being with a woman like Grace?” Jack asked Ben.

“But we are mates.” She shook her head in confusion. “That doesn’t matter. We aren’t victims of our instincts.” Jack watched the blood drain from her face.

His eyes snapped open and he shoved Grace away. “I don’t want you, Grace!” Jack barked chest still heaving from their kiss.

“My instincts want me to lose myself in this-this feeling but I don’t want that.” Grace stood stock still. Her cheeks flushed in humiliation. It made Jack feel like a monster.

Her whole life, she had been waiting for a mate.

“Even after all of the time I spent running after him, it never crossed my mind that Jack would legitimately reject the mate bond.”

“It’s not fair that he just gets to walk around here like nothing happened. I spent the last year being treated like the crazy woman in this town.”

“But no, half breed Grace Copeland gets herself worked up over everything! Those people don’t respect me.”

“Before you say anything, he has formally rejected the bond. I’m not messing around on him.”

“The last year had been one of the most humiliating experiences of my life. Having the whole town take your side really opened my eyes to who my friends are.”

Jack pushed forward with one powerful thrust, howling his climax. His cock throbbed filling her with hot cum. His teeth pressed into her flesh but just when he was about to break the skin he reared back.

Reread 1-2024 I'm craving a good rejected mate story and have had zero luck on KU, so I started going through my shelves. I'll leave my rating, but as far as feels... this offers none. The book opens after the "rejection" which was basically dodging her stalking for a year. Regardless, the h is never heartbroken, so it delivers no feels. Sigh.

***original review***
Quick re-read because I wanted to read the next book, and never left a review. Before I even get started there’re a few things readers will need to be ok with, or at least be able to get over it…or it’s not gonna work. (all happens within the first few chapters) 1. The H, Jack knows Grace (h) is his mate, but doesn’t want to claim her, and dodges her like she’s a leper. 2. Grace desperately stalks him trying to get him to talk to her. 3. Jack sleeps with other women after meeting and knowing Grace is his mate. All off page; there’re no OW drama issues, (she’s not running into them) and Grace is aware but not bothered. This is pretty much all we get, so if you can handle this… you should be ok.

Grace laughed weakly. “Based on what I overheard Becky Jameson say at the bar last night, we might need Clydesdales to pull a parade float of that man’s junk.”

“The man has taken a girl home every time he’s gone to the bar. Everybody in town has noticed. No way he’d be doing that if Grace was his mate.”

My only complaint is that it goes nowhere, so what was the point??!! This is a pet peeve of mine; I hate when authors just dump info (I guess for shock value) but don’t development, or bring it up again. Grace never mentions being hurt by this; she doesn't even discuss it when he's tucking her into his bed that I'm assuming he took all his different girls. His/her friends never call him out for doing it when they learn in fact she was his mate. It just disappears. I don't mind the messy. Hell, I LOVE messy.... just give me the angst!! Have a discussion; get in a fight; acknowledge it; grovel some. I need feels.

Bottom Line- The blurb pretty much lays out the storyline. It’s a quick read; I personally didn’t have time to get bored. No skimming. Grace grows a back bone, and Jack stops being an ass. There’re a few editing issues, but nothing huge. It’s the first book, so there’s a lot of info, names, etc. provided for future books. I am interested to see if Ben has a true mate out there, because I believe him and Anne are just dating.

OW sex
H moves to town
meets his mate
Doesn’t want a mate
He actively avoids his mate for a year with the help of the town
H sleeps with OW in the town for that year 🤮
h is celibate!
As soon as OM shows interest he gets jelly
Takes a tragic event to finally get the H to grow the fuck up.

Having sex w OW when you have a MATE is atrocious
The double standard is even more atrocious! If he gets to fuck OW then she should to!
What the point of having a mate if after you meet them you have no problem sleeping w OW. What’s the point!? So fucking stupid

Sooo I could forgive Jack for sleeping around even when he had a mate because he never committed to her and never tried to lead her on. Of course, he could've been straight up and told Grace that he didn't want a mate but guys are dumb. He also didn't know the whole town was helping him avoid her so I can't get mad at him for that, especially since she was basically stalking him.

I can't get over how Jack realized he wanted Grace when he hadn't come to terms with his issues with mates in the first place. Instead, when Grace was hurt, he decided that she was his mate and that was that. I wish he took the time to see her kindness and seeing that she was perfect for him before making an assumption because she could've been crazy and he would've been stuck with her.

Plus, where was the groveling?! Jack said he was good at it and I want proof!

This was a pretty good rejected mate book. He pushed her away and rejected her for reasons from his past, and she tried to move on. She’s pretty likable, and he is not entirely horrible.

However, there were two loose ends that drove me crazy.

1. Specifically, the heroine was treated very poorly by a lot of the people of the town. They worked to keep her apart from her fated mate and immediately took his side, even though he was a newcomer to town. She never received an apology, and there was never any indication that that bullying ceased. Why would she move back there even if she had friends in town? Why didn’t her best friend’s husband, the alpha of the pack, stop these people from bullying a packmate? What kind of friends are these that would allow this to go on? Why didn’t her mate do something?

2. Early in the book reference is made to the H going home with other women from bars. Later in the book, a friend tells him that any time he did that, the townspeople would torment Grace about it. He he flushes/blushes/reddens when his friend says that, but otherwise doesn’t comment. Later, he tells the heroine that he never hooked up with anyone since he came to town and she can smell that he’s telling the truth. So why does everybody think he brought a bunch of women home with him and why doesn’t he correct his friend when his friend says that? Either it’s a loose end or he is a liar.

I started to read the second book in the series, but it was about one woman with two mates, and I am just not there for that anymore. I have rarely seen a book where that has worked. Especially since they are twins and the implication is that they share a personality.

Review Q&A

* How did the book make you feel?: I was looking for a lot of angst between the MC’s and I was let down.
* How do you feel about how the story was told?: The story had so much potential but there were grammatical, spelling, and continuity errors. The POV changes were not well-indicated and there wasn’t consistent transitions so it often felt like they were jumping into something new. Good editing could’ve caught this.
* What did you think about the main characters?: I liked them. They could’ve been better developed.
* Which parts of the book stood out to you?: When the H finally goes after his mate.
* What themes/tropes did you detect in the story?: Rejected mate
* What did you think about the ending?: it was satisfying but I would’ve liked more groveling from the H
* What is your impression of the author?: I was disappointed with the lack of editing. This author has a lot of potential.

I can’t put my finger on it, but something was missing. The passion? The chemistry? I just wasn’t feeling it. Also, the heroine is a doormat and the hero fucks around. That part didn’t bug me too much. I just wish she would have fucked some others too. I mean, it’s only fair.

For those wondering if he grovels...he doesn’t. Grace gives in way too quickly. Hence my thoughts on her being a doormat. She’s the type of heroine I reallllly hate. So if you hate ones like her too, I’d suggest skipping this book.

2.5⭐️

I had all the problems with this that others had. But I’m also trying to keep in mind, that it’s a first book. Plus, the much later book published, was BRILLIANT!
So obviously this is an author who learns and improves.
With that in mind, I’m willing to give the benefit of the doubt, and keep reading her books.

So, this one…
Don’t like the mains, don’t hate, but have very little respect.
Thought the FMC was weak, insecure, needy, and desperately in need of therapy. No self respect, or respect for others choices. MANY TSTL choices. 🤬😤🤯
Thought the MMC was cowardly, inconsiderate, and strangely oblivious considering he’s suppose to be an enforcer for the pack and town.

I don’t know if there’s been a re-write, or if it was just overlooked, but the MMC doesn’t cheat [though the writing is a bit confusing on that]. It’s the old ‘miscommunication trope’.
That said, the FMC still chases him, believing he is with others 🤷‍♀️😳

Don’t like the town, and can’t understand the FMC’s willingness to remain after she [momentarily] develops a backbone.
Don’t like the bigotry within the town, or the so called friends, who don’t support someone being bullied and humiliated. 🤬
Don’t like that the BFF took over a year to get really mad, and defend the FMC.
Don’t like that no real grovelling was required, no recognition, or amends for others abuse…the story just had a false HEA, that ignored all the bad that came before. The couple was very male biased.

Basically, there’s very little to enjoy here.
BUUUTTTT, the writing is still very good [minus the typos and editing errors], the world is interesting, and the plot has a lot of potential. While I did end up skimming quite a bit after half way, I also very much wanted to know the ending. Plus, I figure it’s needed for the second book.
The action was well written, but a little repetitive and predictable, still enjoyable.

Sooo, read at your own risk, and remember, it’s a first, and she does improve! 😬🤓

I really wanted to love this book because rejected mates is so interesting to me, but this book fell short for me.

For one thing, I am not usually a stickler for grammar and can ignore some errors, but this book definitely needs an editor or someone to go over it because it mostly had errors. These types of errors consisted of name swapping errors, wrong use of him/her, wrong words, etc. it unfortunately made reading this book a bit difficult and confusing.

Now onto the story I liked how Grace decided to change her life after being rejected by Jake, but going to live alone in the woods during a Rogue outbreak probably wasn't the smartest idea. I really disliked Jack for what he did to Grace: dating other women, ignoring/avoiding her for over a year and then completely rejecting her when knowing full well that she was his mate. However, what I dislike the most was Grace's easy forgiveness of Jack like he hadn't crushed her heart.

I would have enjoyed it more if she and Dane dated a bit just to give her variety, but unfortunately that doesn't happen, although their closeness did piss off Jack. I took pleasure in all aspects of Jack being jealous and acting like idiot, but I absolutely enjoyed it when Grace introduced Dane, her contractor and temporary protector, Jack was not pleased.

I just needed more backbone from Grace, basically Jack said he wanted her and she said okay and things took off from there.

I really loved Grace's friends, Holly, Anne and Betsy (human) and now Ivy (majorly helpful in the end). I am looking forward to Betsey and Paul's book as well as Ivy's book with her two mates, Ezra and Ezekiel Tate (the twins).

I really didn't understand the big conflict with the Rogues and magic at the end, not sure if it wasn't explained well or if I just didn't understand with all the mistakes in it.

It started really great but then kinda felt rushed.

First, there are quite a few typos that proofreading would take care of. Wrong words in places that make the sentence not even make sense. It takes away from the book. The plot is quite good but really!?! The guy avoided her and was downright rude for a YEAR and when he changes his mind she caves in 2 days and 2 days later its love. Ugh. Was she just in a rush at the end? I know some like the insta love, and if so then it'll work for you. If, like me, you'd want to hang on to a little righteous anger at someone making me feel like shit for a year and then thinking he can call the shots, you'll also feel less than happy with how it goes. Hopefully the author does a little more proofreading because again the story itself is quite good and has the makings of a great series.

I'm honestly confused by this. Did I read the same book as everyone else? The negative reviews say he wasn't celibate after knowing Grace was his mate. Did the author change this book? Because from what I read it was just rumors that he was taking girls from the bar home. He never slept with Becky. He said he never slept with anyone after moving to this new pack. Unless I missed it somewhere. Someone will have to point this out. Also, one review said she was a virgin. She was not. She said she had been with others. So unless I didn't comprehend what I read the author changed the plot. To be honest I was enjoying this until it got too fantastical and ridiculous with black magic and witches blowing thing's up. Not much chemistry between the main characters who are supposedly fated mates. So a big disappointment there. Zero angst, but I wasn't looking for too much angst this time around. Overall this was just ok.

MMC sucks. He doesn't want a mate and so he spends 18 months avoiding the town pariah who is his mate and pats himself on the back for always being two steps ahead...except the entire town is in on it and force the two apart no matter how much the FMC tries to talk to him. Then FMC decides that she should move on, stop pining for a man who doesn't want her, and do things for herself, and NOW he becomes a JP, OTT, alpha male ??? Bro what ????

Men are dumb.

FMC wasn't bad though. The pack sucks. Wonder how it'll work out for the best friend and the Alpha, since they're dating and not fated mates.

Writing this reminds me of my Dalton/Clayton review and how the author kept stressing that fated mates ALWAYS ended in tragedy.

I was excited to read this, but am so disappointed in the heroine. Her mate rejects and avoids her for fifteen months, goes home with a different woman every weekend, then when she decides to move on, he decides he wants her. Her decision to move on and start a new life lasts about four days, and it feels like a token conversation when they address his treatment of her, and that doesn't include the other women he's been with. I cringe at her lack of self-respect.

Rejected begins when Grace is finally rejected by her mate. She's been trying to talk to him for a long time, and when he finally decides to tell her he doesn't want her, she decides it is time to move on. So, she literally moves, and with it comes dangers none of them ever considered.

This book was okay. I was annoyed with a few things, but overall it was an interesting story that I liked.

This wasn't great. I'm glad it was a KU. There were plenty of grammatical and formatting errors, to the point where I think the only proofreading that was done was a spell check (which admittedly is more than some authors offer). There were last names that changed from one page to the next, tenses that shifted mid-sentence, and an assortment of "Wait, what? That wasn't what you said a minute ago!" moments that happen when you don't have good copy editing and/or proofreaders.

And I could forgive a lot of that, but worse, the plot was just kinda "meh."

Grace is a reject in her shifter town, the half-breed daughter of a wolf who rejected her fated mate in favor of a human. The town has decided that is also Grace's fault, and she lives on the fringes. She met her own fated mate, Jack, a relative newbie to the town, but due to a couple of hard luck stories he's decided he doesn't want a mate, fated or otherwise. After she stalks him for over a year, with the whole town helping him avoid her, he rejects her, and she has had enough. So she moves to her parents' cabin in the woods, but, wouldnchaknowit, this happens just as a group of rogue shifters comes into the territory with their sights set on Grace... or her cabin... one of the two. And of course, it doesn't take Jack long to realize he was wrong to reject her. He even says he'll grovel for her, which we all know I'm a sucker for.

That all would have been fine, except, no grovel. It's kind of a you had me at hello sort of thing where Jack just kind of has to indicate he was wrong and Grace is all...

I would have liked to see more of the emotional connection between these two rather than just the "Hey, we're like, mated, or something" physical connection I usually see in these books. But then again, I'm reading a shifter romance from KU -- I suppose I should know better.

It's an emotional story about rejection and second chances mix it with rogue wolves, Magic and u have a recipe for an exciting read with some actions thrown in. Jack and Grace are fated mates but Jack is too broken and hurt by his past to want a mate so he rejects her. I feel that the story have been rash and it could have been brilliant.

THE MMC WASN’T A MANWH O R E!! That’s the most positive thing I can say about this book. The second is that I found ZERO grammatical issues. Which is fantastically refreshing these days. Lol. I sound so eager for something that should be the norm not the exception. Lol. Anyway, this book was nice. Decent. The story revolved around the central couple for the most part but somethings just didn’t make sense to me.

The author kind of flip flopped around the subject of the fated mate bond thing. The FMC’s mother rejected her HS sweetheart/fated mate for a human like it was nothing. Claiming he was her heart mate. Okay that’s fine but the central couple couldn’t resist each other for half a day once the MMC stopped running away from his mate. So which is it, a choice or a compulsion? The MMC had his own sad history of his parents being fated mates that were horrible for and towards each other. So is the mate bond for souls that would suit each other or is it no different then the guessing game regular people have to do in choosing who to love and marry/partner with for the rest of their lives? Then there were a few side couples that were mates but were refusing to acknowledge it or were avoiding it for no apparent reason. So what gives?? Next, the FMC was so stuck on getting her fated mate when she could have been happy with anyone if she had simply tried, as evidenced by her own parents relationship, all because she wanted the “town” to accept her. Are you kidding!?! Is the mate bond important or a ploy??

I also had a few questions about some of the subplots that were going on around the couple that aren’t addressed in the story. Like, what happened to the mother’s rejected HS sweetheart/mate? The story only shows his mother being a pain to any and everyone she came across due to “his” rejection. The next question was can you have a ménage mate(?), as the second book seems to be leading towards that kind of storyline. What happens if the alpha and his non-mate girlfriend (who seem perfect for each other, btw) meet their individual fated mates?? It seems like heartbreak in the making with that couple. I want romance and HEA’s not heartbreaks. I don’t think this author knows where her stories are going.

My next concern for the story was the witches/magic that only appeared in the last two chapters of the book. That was a cheap tactic on the author’s part to make her story work when there was not one mention of this in the entire book leading up to the end. Seriously, if you are world building then you need to actually build it. You can’t hodge podge as you go. It’s sloppy and lazy writing. I want to remind readers that while this was the case, I did mention at the top of this review that I did NOT find any editing issues with this story, so I was very confused since it’s clear the author is able to focus on details but couldn’t make her world more complete by introducing her elements as the story unfolds and not at the end like a savage plot twist, which this failed to be. A conundrum, I think at least.

Well, that seems like a lot but the book was decent enough to read. Only two on page mild uninteresting s e x scenes if that matters to anyone. Not a virgin in sight either, lol. So this book depicted adults being adults in a healthy way in that regard at least. The rejection was selfish/immature but in a way reasonable so I don’t completely hate it. I am interested in the ménage relationship of the second book but I’m not in a rush to get it and read it. This book was not compelling enough to make me want to continue on. I’ll read part two whenever I read it. If I remember. Not a ringing endorsement I know. Good luck.

Not in agreement

SPOILERS: First, I want to say that I read most of the other reviews and do not agree with a lot of them. Everyone is going on about how the main hero is an a..hole and whatever but I disagree. Yes, he was a coward and should have officially reject the main heroine but she couldn’t take a hint? She literally stalked the dude for an entire year. He ignored her for an entire year. Anytime she walked into a room and he was there, he left. He didn’t interact with her whatsoever so when he finally says “leave me alone. I don’t want you”, she’s shocked? Like come on. How is she shocked? He never gave her a time of day. It’s her fault for chasing someone that clearly did not want her. And the whole him taking women home. It was never described that it was a bunch of women. People like to call someone a terrible person if they reject their mate. Not wanting to be with someone is not a qualifier for being a terrible person. He was SINGLE when he took those girls home and the main heroine was the idiot that chased after someone that clearly did not want her. Also, I thought it was hilarious that taking charge and moving on with her life meant moving to the edge of town. Like what? She still has to go to work in the town. She still has to eat there. She still has to go there for supplies. Her life will be exactly the same except her bed will be in a different location. Moving on with her life would have been leaving town and starting somewhere new. Overall, I will say the main hero was a coward and probably should have officially told her to leave him alone but also not interacting or conversing with someone for a year should have been enough indication. That’s probably the only thing he might have to apologize for. This was an okay read so I gave it 3 stars.
