Rock Chick Reawakening by Kristen Ashley 2.25 Stars!I've tried to read a couple different Kristen Ashley books and I don't know if I'm just picking the wrong books to try and start with or if her writing style just isn't for me, but I did not like this. I skimmed a lot of it because I was half curious but I also didn't care. Marcus was decent but it was also a little weird that he suddenly wanted Daisy. I mean, I get that insta-love/lust happens in Romances but he saw her helping a coworker and suddenly he doesn't want her giving lap dances and he's covering her increased salary. I will admit that I liked(?) the fact that he handled things with the guy who attacked her and didn't really hide that's what he was going to do. Daisy was annoying. She was like a mish-mash of every single Southern stereotype that anyone has ever thought of and half of them weren't supposed to go together. Her overall attitude was ridiculous and if she'd said "sugar" one more time, I was going to figure out how to smack her with a frying pan through her mile-high hair. Maybe I would have had more enjoyment/connection if I'd read the previous books in the series but I didn't care for this one at all.
Adoring Ink by Carrie Ann Ryan 3.5 StarsThis one was probably my favorite of all these stories. I liked the relationship between Brody and Holly and how he was doing his best to help her get those experiences. I loved that he started reading her and was able to figure out what she'd like. I did wish this had been longer because they both had some trauma and while they talked about it, I wish it had been explored a little more. Especially with how much the Montgomery's and others were ragging on Brody for making sure he didn't hurt Holly. I loved the bracelet he gave her at the end though.
Sweet Rivalry by K. Bromberg 2.75-3 Stars! This one definitely needed to be longer. Harper and Ryder had decent chemistry but they spent most of the story sniping at each other, with Harper constantly reminding herself that she (supposedly) didn't like Ryder and Ryder wanting to get into her pants and suddenly they have some decent sex but then the story felt like it ended pretty abruptly. There was all this tension leading up to them combusting but then the story kind of fizzled out. Overall, Harper and Ryder were decent and their chemistry was great but there also wasn't a ton of time to really connect with them.
Shade's Lady by Joanna Wylde 2.5 Stars! This was...honestly I skimmed it. The book tried to go a little bit darker but I feel like the execution failed. I don't mind MC books but I just couldn't do it. Mandy was kind of clueless; I mean, I figured out what happened with Randy the sleazebucket the second he started in with the "oh yeah I need your help for something". The fact that she didn't clue in, when she supposedly knew about MCs/how they worked was ridiculous. I did like the fact that Shade sort of backed off (his whole "well I could if I wanted" spiel wasn't quite the win I feel the author was going for though) when he realized Mandy wasn't as "in the know" as he'd been told/thought. Mandy's whole internal Wonder Woman thing was just stupid. I don't mind independent women but that was just ridiculous. Plus the woman was so back and forth on everything and it was ridiculous. I'm not sure if this was another one that was a case of not having read anything by the author previously or anything else in this series or what.
