“When I woke up this morning, I didn’t plan on crashing a wedding…”

Addison - Left town five years ago and hasn’t looked back, but recently has because of the passing of her grandmother, who also left her home and business to Addison. She is trying to figure out what to do next, but thought it would be okay to sneak into her estranged cousin’s wedding.

Elijah - Has a very powerful family, served three tours overseas with the army, and is soon going to take his fathers place as Mayor. He is rich, and powerful, and ungodly attractive, but that doesn’t mean anything when he is stood up at the altar on this wedding day.

Obviously, Elijah is very much in the spotlight because of his family and his upcoming election, but he escapes the disaster of a wedding in Addison’s car, while she promises him that he can lay low in her not very ordinary apartment. (Friend, you all have no idea how appealing it is to me to picture Addison living in a constantly wintery/Christmas wonderland. I loved this aspect of the book so very much, and I honestly would totally decorate my home for an all year holiday, too.) And both of them truly strike up such a beautiful friendship, that I was swooning instantly. This is like the best friends to lovers in the world.

But we get to see Addison, who is hiding from her family’s past, and Elijah, who is willing to do anything to not put Addison in the spotlight after she saved him that embarrassing day, while they come together and figure out if they want to stay best friends or become something more. All while also trying to figure out if the woman that ran away on her wedding day will ever come back into town, especially if she figures out that her ex-fiancé is maybe being naughty with her cousin who is banished from the family.

“This is what it’s like to have a man obsessed with you. Do you like it?”

Okay, let’s talk about the sex in this book. In Fix Her Up , the male love interest is the dirty talker, while the girl was innocent but very reciprocative, but in Getaway Girl, Addison truly gives Elijah a run for his money. Her mouth is so beautifully filthy, and the things that she did with it will truly keep me up at night in the best way possible. This author is truly not afraid to go there, and me and my dirty friends very much appreciate it. From the one-liners, the one-pagers, the entire book, it was all so sexy and I truly think Tessa Bailey is just on another tier in the romance genre right now.

“You own this city now, Mr. Mayor. Right now, that includes what’s under my dress.”

Yet, it was also so damn romantic. And I loved seeing both of these characters carve out the future that they truly want, instead of letting their pasts control them. And I honestly think I could read ten more books starring these two, and I wouldn’t get bored or be completely satisfied.

The only thing that I’ve come to realize with Tessa Bailey is that she writes very abrupt endings. I think going forward this is something that I’m just going to prepare myself for, but this ending in particular felt so quick and I was left feeling not 100% satisfied. Even though I still completely recommend this story with 100% of my heart.

Overall, I really loved this book. From the characters, to the setting, to the atmosphere, to the mind-explosive sex scenes, it was so damn good. Again, I just recommend you all to pick up something by Tessa Bailey if you’re looking for some sexy reading in your life. Also, me and my friends have no chill and we already read Runaway Girl, which is book two in this duology!

Tessa Bailey is a nasty bitch and I LOVE HER SO DAMN MUCH FOR IT. God bless her for not shying away from doing the damn thang. I mean the main character literally ?????????? When I tell you I SCREAMED. We have no choice but to stan

(SIDE NOTE: I listened to the audiobook of this and tbh? It was not great. The story was fantastic, but the female narrator put on this fucking awkward porn star baby voice for the sex scenes and it honestly ruined what would have otherwise lit me on fire. I definitely recommend reading the physical of this one if you are able!)

Another new to me author. Another good book.

A story about a mayor to be, left at alter groom that seems content to be left standing and getting into a getaway car with an unknown beautiful woman. However - he isn’t looking for a quick pick me up sexapade, nope, he just wants an easy escape and he’s willing to do anything to hide that escape away from the world. He’s set his eyes on being elected to the upcoming mayor race yet he finds himself seeking normalcy from none other than Getaway Girl. Who would have thought that he’d become the most comfortable he’s ever been hiding away with her. Who would have thought he’d be attracted to her? And seriously, who would have thought that he wouldn’t admit his feelings until it could be too late?

Yet, he continues to dodge questions from the press regarding who this girl is, hideaway his secret girl, and continues falling more attached to her each day. So who’s this Getaway Girl willing to be hidden away from the eager looking eyes of Charleston?

She’s an amazing, beautiful, lost soul that has recently come back to Charleston after living in New York for the past 6 years. With all her family gone, either having passed on or run away from her, she finds herself highly attracted to the man her cousin and possible half sister left standing at the alter. She’s recently inherited her grandmothers business and is committed to making it succeed. And who would have thought that the man she rescued would help? Again, me ❤️

Although this story was predictable to me, I really enjoyed it. I loved the story, I loved the characters, and gosh dang I would love more to these two. Addison & Elijah definitely grew on me. If you want sweet, funny, friends to lovers, and some slow burning love, this ones for you =)))

I've read a few books by Tessa Bailey, and Getaway Girl is by far my favorite book of her's I've read to date. I listened to the audio book and I never wanted to press pause! This was such a fun, steamy, entertaining and sweet read!

When Addison Potts shows up to her estranged cousin's wedding, the very last thing she expects to do is to be the getaway driver for her cousin's groom. After her cousin leaves Elijah Montgomery Du Pont, the future mayor of Charleston at the altar, that's exactly what happens. Addison and Elijah hit it off right away and become fast friends. As a matter of fact, they become best friends. This is very much a friends to lovers story and it's told in such a fantastic way!

I freaking loved Addison. I thought she was great. And Elijah. OMG. So sweet, southern, and a gentleman. But what a dirty little mouth he ends up having! As I mentioned before, I listened to the audio version of this book and I'm not gonna lie- these narrators brought the heat. So much so that it sounded like I was watching porn while listening to some of these sexy scenes. Tessa does steamy oh so well! I loved the chemistry these two had together and all the comments about Elijah's ass.
“I just realized you always untuck your dress shirt before walking in my front door. Have you been hiding a GIF-worthy ass from me, Elijah Montgomery Du Pont?”
“Addison Potts, this conversation is indecent.”

As much as I loved these two as a couple and loved their intense connection, I truly loved their friendship as well. They could be completely their-selves with one another and I think that's something neither one of them was used to. This book was all around fantastic. I enjoyed listening to it so much. I'm very much looking forward to the next one in the series!
“Not loving you would have been crazier than loving you at first sight.”

So I'll always be honest in my reviews and......

And let me clarify that he finds out that the heroine was his ex’s cousin until he was left at the altar.

At least the heroine wasn't a shy little virgin.

This was fucking delicious! New favourite dirty talkers!New favourite book and definitely going on my re-read list!! If you've read Tessa Bailey, you know she excels in dirty talkers and here, I can say she outdid herself. If you haven't read her, pick one of her books up asap! You can thank me anytime.

Meet my new book crush and dirty talker, Elijah Montgomery Du Pont! And the new and only entry in my dirty talkers that is female, Addison Potts! Addison decides to crash her cousins wedding since she wasn't invited. There's just one problem the bride has run away and Addison plays getaway driver to the groom, Elijah. She gives him a much needed reprieve from facing family, friends and press questions and platitudes. Elijah is also running for mayor so the scrutiny of the public is even more focused on him. His newly found and growing relationship with Addison is something he shouldn't have but he will fight everyone and anyone to keep it.

I loved this book to pieces. That's not to say that it doesn't have any faults but to me they were teeny tiny and easily forgotten. I read it in a day and could not for the life of me put it down. It was so hot and sweet and adorable and hot and sexy and hot, did I say hot? Because damn, this was hella hot. I fucking blushed and flashed three shades of red while reading it.

I'm running out of words(and time) so if you love dirty talkers, filthy sex, friendship that quickly turns to love then this is your next read.

To my safety gang: The H was going to marry her cousin. If you have issues with this check the spoiler:

P.S. Will try to tidy this up later as I'm running out of time. Happy Easter to those of you celebrating.

You know, it would be blooming fantastic if GoodReads had reminders for the books that are on your to-read list on their day of release. Like a small "Hey, I'm out, come get me!".

5 'Elijah's Girl' Stars!
ARC provided via Give Me Books Promotions in exchange for an honest review.

Gah, this book! Gah, these characters! Gah, this couple! I am obsessed. Obsessed with Tessa Bailey's writing and the outstanding characters she creates. Elijah and Addison are purely magic together. Getaway Girl was a swoon fest: it was adorably sweet, it was sexy as heck and it was absolutely beautiful. What an amazing read! I can't stop smiling, I loved this novel soooooooooo much!

So, Getaway Girl is Tessa Bailey’s newest standalone novel. Our main characters, Elijah and Addison meet in the most curious circumstances: Elijah has just been left at the altar by Addison’s cousin. Addison is not a guest but she has returned to Charleston after her grandmother’s death to take over her business. Addison saves Elijah from the pity looks and takes him over to her house. That is the start of an amazing friendship and also of the sparks between these two (even though they try to hide it!). Elijah Du Pont is about to become the new mayor, he is famous for his juicy backside and he adores spending time with his Goose (aka Addison). Of course, it’s not everything about their friendship. This couple has a very strong connection and that chemistry cannot be stopped. Imagine how good it gets when that beautiful friendship is mixed with off-the-charts sex!

This friendship is untouched by the chaos of my life. It’s separate and preserved, it makes me happy—and I’m not going to mess with it.

Again, Tessa Bailey kills it with this sweet and sexy friends to lovers romance. Trust me, you don’t want to miss reading this amazing piece of writing! I don’t know how this woman does it but she clicks with everything that I love about contemporary romance novels: outstanding characters, deep connections and a chemistry that blew my mind (and my panties because HOT DAMN). I love novels that start with the main couple being best friends. Addison and Elijah have this super sweet friendship that made me melt all over the place. They care deeply for each other and that is why they are extremely scared to act on the other things they feel for each other: attraction and, of course, love.

“I just realized you always untuck your dress shirt before walking in my front door. Have you been hiding a GIF-worthy ass from me, Elijah Montgomery Du Pont?”
“Addison Potts, this conversation is indecent.”

“I’m losing my mind, Addison.” I wrap her hair around my fists and lift her head away from my lap. “This is what it’s like to have a man obsessed with you. Do you like it?”

But when they finally do it and start acting on it.. MY GOD. Let’s just say Elijah’s famous backside is not the only thing that is juicy here (and that cute butt is VERY juicy!). Addison takes care of repeting that to Elijah constantly. Their banter is absolutely fantastic and when they take it to the next level.. man, these two are so dirty. I love Tessa’s dirty talkers (you all know that by now!) and what is even better about Getaway Girl? Well, Elijah is hot AF and he actually is very expressive with Addison when they start having sex but the dirty one here is Addison herself and I loved her for it! I love a sassy strong heroine and Addison was amazing. I loved the development of this relationship. I loved the friendship, the sex and the emotions (especially towards the end). I was so happy to seeing this couple get their much deserved happy ending. Gah, I just loved everything!

Love isn’t duty and tradition and consistency. It’s wild and unquenchable and inconvenient. It’s messy and raw. It’s what I feel for Addison. I love Addison.

Therefore, my rating for Getaway Girl is 5 STARS because it was the perfect friends to lovers romance for me. It had everything: an exceptional couple, lots of banter and sweet moments, friendship, off-the charts sex and dirty talking and lots of emotions. Addison and Elijah are one of my new favorite couples by Tessa Bailey and you’ll understand why when you read this amazing standalone novel! Trust me, if you love this author’s writing or you want to read a fantastic friends to lovers romance, be sure to read this one. I highly recommend it!

4 Come and Get it Sugar Stars ⭐

Without any real intention of attending THE wedding, it was instinct to rescue the jilted groom. Addison Potts shouldn't be crazily fascinated with Elijah Montgomery Du Pont but she is. Now technically his getaway driver, they quickly become fast friends and unofficial housemates.

"You think I want a man who got left out on the curb like yesterday’s recycling?"

Elijah's first reaction is to feel relieved that a stranger has bailed him out of this predicament. Yet on closer inspection, he's kind of in awe of this gorgeous girl with a smart mouth that wants nothing in return for her efforts.

"I find myself fighting a smile. This girl is kind of mean. Have I ever met a girl who doesn’t hide a mean streak behind backhanded compliments and bless your hearts?"

Addison uses sass and indifference as a shield. As an outcast most her life, it has been difficult returning to her home town. With the passing of her beloved grandmother, she has just inherited an apartment furnished like Christmas on crack and ‘Jingle Balls’, a Christmas Baubles business. She had no intention of hanging around, yet somehow finds herself laying down roots. And now with Elijah in the picture, life is sweet.

"He wants me to be his friend, though. I find myself wanting to be that for him. Almost as much as I want him to lay me across this table, unzip his pants and fill me."

As a man running for mayor, Addison has become Elijah's calming effect from the pressures of a structured life. However being friend zoned is quickly becoming uncomfortable when she is all he can think about. Until he gets seduced.

"And it hits me hard that she’s been holding so much of herself back. I don’t know this girl who looks almost shy while she’s spreading her thighs, then says things that make my cock throb."

Addison and Elijah may be from different worlds, but it's completely irrelevant. Where she brought chaos to his order, he in turn provided comfort and hope she never allowed herself. The mayor and the wild child were perfect. Her crazy to his chivalry; they were fire together. Getaway Girl was a fantastic friend to lovers’ story. Funny, steamy and just a pleasure to read.

My best friend, my roommate, my conscience. The lines around our relationship blur immediately and fade into nothing. God. She’s nothing I’ve ever experienced.

And this book right here, is exactly why I'm so obsessed with everything that Tessa Bailey writes; her ability to create characters that I fall head over heels for and can't get enough of. And Elijah and Addison were two amazing characters!
I just realized you always untuck your dress shirt before walking in my front door. Have you been hiding a GIF-worthy ass from me, Elijah Montgomery Du Pont?”
“Addison Potts, this conversation is indecent.”

When Addison decides to crash her cousin's wedding, she never expects an unlikely best friend that she makes to be the jilted groom. With a history rooted in scandal, Addison isn't exactly thrilled to be back in the town of Charleston. But after her grandmother passed and left her business and apartment to her, she's determined to make it work. Being the getaway driver to the groom her cousin stood up at the altar and the town's golden boy and future mayor isn't exactly on her to-do list, but there's just something about Elijah's sweet smile and gentle eyes that call to her.

What begins with a ride soon turns into the unlikeliest of friendships. Addison and Elijah become an escape for each other. Their friendship is brimming with sexual tension and suppressed desire, but they both have too much to lose if they give in. After all, Elijah has his image to uphold and the last thing Addison needs is to be tabloid fodder. She wants to lay low and he's always in the public eye. But the connection between them is too incendiary to ignore, and it doesn't take long before they give into the inevitable.
You shouldn’t be allowed in polite company with this big thing dangling between your thighs, Elijah. Especially when it gets hard. Shame on you, Captain Du Pont.” I bite down on his nipple, laving it with my tongue. “You better apologize.” The muscles of his body bunch head to toe. “Addison.” I stop moving. “Fuck”

One of my favorite things about this book was the banter. Tessa Bailey is the QUEEN of witty and sexy banter. And this book brought it in spades. Elijah was this fantastic combination of sweet and caring but with a hidden layer of dirty talking caveman. I seriously couldn't get enough of it, and man did I love that Addison managed to bring it out in him the way she did.
It reminds me of you.”
“Does it?”
“Mmmhmm. Old-fashioned and charming…” She squints at my backside. “With a big old kitchen.”
“It’s not polite to make ass jokes about your tour guide.”
“Oh come on. You know I love that thing.” When she crosses to the window and looks down, I ask, “What are you looking at?”
“Just checking to see if your milkshake brought all the boys to the yard.”

Getaway Girl was a light hearted and super fun romance full of swoon and sizzle. With plenty of banter, endearing secondary characters, and a deliciously entertaining plot, it clicked every box for me.

Overall Opinion: This was enjoyable for the most part. I liked the overall premise, I liked their friendship-to-more scenario, and I liked their banter. I did get rather frustrated with the lack of communication between them, especially after feelings start to develop. I didn’t really feel a romantic connection between them either. I got the hot sex! I also got a cute friendship. I just didn’t see it past all that. The ending also was lackluster where it had a jump ahead epilogue right after the conflict resolution that wasn’t nearly enough. I’m going with a middle of the road, 3 “just okay” stars for this one.

Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Addison and Elijah’s story. Addison has returned to town after her grandmother died. When she is attending her cousin’s wedding where Elijah is the groom-to-be but getting publicly left at the alter, she provides a getaway ride. Elijah is in the running to be the town’s mayor and is already the golden boy that is everything the rebel Addison is not. The unlikely pair form an instant friendship and Elijah seeks Addison out for comfort during his stressful life. Lines get crossed, there is some family drama, and some hot sexy times…and they get a HFN ending.

Point Of View (POV): This alternated between Addison and Elijah’s POV.

Overall Pace of Story: Good until the abrupt ending. I never skimmed.

Instalove: No, but instant connection. Friendship to love.

H (Hero) rating: 3.5 stars. Elijah. I liked how he was so protective, possessive, and caring. I just wish he communicated better.

h (heroine) rating: 3.5 stars. Addison. I liked her strength and how she was sweet inside while sassy outside. I wished she communicated better too.

Sadness level: Low, no tissues needed

Push/Pull: Yes

Heat level: Hot. They have some hot tension, chemistry, and scenes -- but not so much it takes away from the story.

Descriptive sex: Yes

OW (Other Woman)/OM (Other Man) drama: Yes

Sex scene with OW or OM: No

Cheating: No

Separation: Yes, but only a few hours (?)

Possible Triggers: Yes, but mild

Closure: This ends right after their conflict is resolved and a jump ahead epilogue , but it wasn’t nearly enough closure for me. I had a lot of unanswered questions in the end.

Safety: This one should be Safe for most safety gang readers

This book was okay. Don't get me wrong the entire premise was really interesting and I was super excited to see how this relationship would develop between Addison and Elijah but sadly, halfway through the book I got disappointed in Elijah.

I understand how his actions relate to what happened in the beginning of the book but come on. You went with it for the first 60% so stop second guessing your life now.
oN top of that, I do not think that he did not work enough for Addison'S forgiveness after he said what he said (that made me so disappointed in him).
I think it was really out of character and not like the Elijah we knew from the beginning.

I loved Addison. She was great and her personality was fun and mature at the same time which is a pretty cool combination but why why why. That end scene was soooo weird in my opinion because I again, do not think that she acted like herself after the so called "plot twist".

Overall I was still entertained

4.5 Bailey Running On All Cylinders Stars
* * * * 1/2 Spoiler Free-RUN, DON'T WALK, It's FREE!!!
I have mentioned this before...I fell hard for Tessa Bailey when I read Protecting What's His (Line of Duty, #1) years ago. I discovered it when GR friend Lisa Jayne's review crossed my feed. I loved the review and quickly went click-click acquiring the book. Little did I know it would lead to a binge reading of the entire Line of Duty series.

For when Tessa Bailey is in her groove...she writes the best characters. They are riddled with imperfections which make them perfect for the stories. They have deep feelings and huge hearts. They are most comfortable in their own skins and are willing to be equal participants in their relationships... emotionally and sexually...

And when they are involved with the ones whose hearts and private parts go beat beat beat...Watch out because the heat level is so high... it may be the main contributing factor of Climate Change!

For Real...

This time I can thank Lana ❇✾Dirty Girl Romance❇✾ and her review (https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...) reminding me of my affection for Bailey books.

In Getaway Girl, Tessa Bailey took everything she knows how to do... and applied it full throttle.
She brought us Addison Potts, the black sheep cousin, curious enough to slip into the church where her perfect right side of the family was to marry the future Mayor of Charleston. There, leaning against the back of the church in black leather pants and throw away top, she gazed out at the full pews. There was the entire town, decked out in their Southern best.

Once there, though, Addison really couldn't figure out why she actually was there...She was part of the past... her mother who did the unthinkable...hooked up a well to do man just before marrying his fiance...Something Addison never was able to live down. It caused her mother to desert her, leaving her grandma to take care of her.

Addison was turning to leave and caught the eye of Elijah Montgomery Du Pont. She sees this man, his eyes lock on hers for the briefest moment...and she knows for sure she needs to get the hell out of there...Then, like a TV Soap Opera, a woman delivers Elijah a note at the altar, he reads it and with emotions crossing his face, he looks out on the gathering apologizing for bringing them here on a Sunday.

Addison rushes to the parking lot, gets her car and when she sees Elijah coming down the steps, she offers him some Grey Goose and a ride away from all the well-wishers. Elijah still stunned accepts the bottle and then the ride. Addison asking him what he wants, gets his truth... he wants to just hide and breathe... to just be for a moment. Addison offers her place and off they go.

Neither Addison and Elijah are looking for any romance. This was not the agenda...both fall into becoming best friends. And from this Best Friend business...My oh My, the slow burn, the internal attraction for each other is off the charts.

And Please Know...when Bailey leads these two to the point of breaking and giving in to the attraction they have been fostering...You better make sure your Air Conditioner is working and the Do Not Disturb sign is hanging off your door.

But with all of this mentioning of hot times... know none of it would work if the characters weren't worth our time. Elijah and Addison were both so special. Elijah, with his care and then untamed want for Addison was off the charts and classic Tessa Bailey. Addison was comfortable in her own skin and sexuality. They were a match made in Bailey heaven.

I went into this basically blind and it held my attention all the way through. There are hints to a possible follow up book for another character... and won't that just be fine.

I'm feeling giddy...and it's not just the wine talking

Tick all my boxes and call me a happy camper, I friggin LOVED Getaway Girl.

Sorry peoples, this is not going to be a long review because...WINE!!! Yes, it's Saturday night, and I'm treating myself to a glass of wine.

So, this is the kind of book where I get everything I want when I read a contemporary romance. There are highs and lows that took me from giddy grins to tears pouring out of my eyes. These characters, this storyline and the emotions I felt were everything.

I absolutely loved that Elijah and Addison had to work for their happy ever after. We meet Addison straight after losing her Grandmother and Elijah waiting at the altar for a bride who never shows. This bride also happens to be Addison's cousin. When Elijah's realises that his plans have gone awry, he jumps at the chance to escape the circus of his near-nuptials. Addison becomes his Getaway Girl...

Holy Friggin Shamoly...Tessa Bailey really knows how to bring out the HEAT!! I think even poor Elijah didn't realise he could be this HOT!! Seriously, you could buy this book for the sexy talk alone. I'm HOT just thinking about it.

Ok, plenty of highs but there are some lows. Poor Addison has "issues". Poor Addison is the daughter of a homewrecker and tainted by the sins of her mother. With Elijah being the squeaky-clean Captain, becoming Mayor, Addison is definitely not good for his image. Unfortunately, one of the saddest parts of the story was at the hands of Elijah's mother thinking she was doing the right thing for his campaign. I SERIOUSLY wanted to reach into my book and slap the woman senseless. Shouldn't her son's happiness be more important? Anyways, all good in the end, but I was two seconds away from calling in for reinforcements (hugs from hubby) because I didn't like where things were heading.

Seriously, I think this is one of my favourite contemporary romances this year. Who knows maybe it's hormones, or WINE, but honestly, I think it's just Tessa Bailey getting it RIGHT.

If you love LOVE, and you haven't read this book yet...DO IT!!

Everybody seems to like this book, but I honestly don't know why.

The characters are drawn superficially and behave completely a-typically. No normal person talks, lives or does things like they do.

He is the mayor-to-be who is left at the altar and she is the girl of questionable origin. Could've been good. But it isn't.

She helps him escape from his wedding after his bride has disappeared and takes him home. Who does something like this? Helping him escape is one thing but letting him (a stranger) stay with her? No. Just no.

One day later they decide to be best friends out of nowhere. Call me old-fashioned, but I know people longer than 12 hours before I call them friends.

Their strange friendship culminates in her falling in love with him, but he hides her more or less in order not to risk his election.

When they finally have sex, that's the strangest thing I've read in a long time. In bed they become completely different people. None of this makes any sense and doesn't fit the two of them.

I don't even start with her apartment, which is decorated all year round for Christmas. That was just as ridiculous as her moving in with him. That makes absolutely no sense when you want to hide the "friendship".

Gateway Girl is hot. Miss Bailey knows how to make her story interesting. She make the smutty scenes hot, dirty and oh so sinful. Like eating a favorite chocolate cake. Just melt in your mouth into a delightful sin.

I like the story too. The second chance romance with a comedic banter. I especially love Addison. She is a strong heroine. She has back bone and tender heart. And she is not apologetic about her sexual appetite. And Elijah is such a darling. He rises to the occasion and his dirty mouth is just perfect.
These two going at it like a porn stars.

Again I admit that Miss Bailey slowly creeping up to my favorite author. Especially when I really need something hot and dirty. She is always up to hot smutty scenes.

First, huge shout out to Sonal for talking about this book nonstop on social media, because if she hadn’t... I probably wouldn’t have taken a chance on it. Which would have been a book addict tragedy because....

Getaway Girl is hands down the most unique best friends to lovers story I have ever read. The gist of the plot is one I’ve read before, but absolutely NOT in the way that Tessa Bailey weaves the story of Addison and Elijah. These are the characters we are usually narrated to dislike, but Tessa takes the groom and the getaway girl and makes them so easy and fun to root for! I appreciated this side of the story.

Addison is quirky and fun. Shes like every holiday smushed into one person. A kaleidoscope of personality that she keeps hidden until the perfect moments. She’s so easy to root for and defend from harsh characters in the book. Elijah.. oh sweet, huge badonk Elijah. He is southern sweetness mixed perfectly with the right amounts of alpha. He’s a good human. He tries to be a good human at least. Even though both of these characters have ups and downs they work together to be better. Addison and Elijah are two puzzle pieces that fit perfectly, and their story is just so so good. Full of witty banter and inner monologue, small town drama and community, characters you will fall so easily for.

I can’t say enough good things about this book. I need to stop because at this point I’m just rambling. Tessa Bailey knocked it out of the park.

PS - I would LOVE LOVE LOVE Naomi’s story. I mean she is the runaway girl. What is a getaway girl without one of those?

“Not loving you would have been crazier than loving you at first sight.”

Just when I was in dire need of a book to jolt me out of a reading slump, this beauty came into my life and made me forget the whole world around me. It was my first encounter with Tessa Bailey’s sublime storytelling, but from the very first page, I knew I was going to fall head over heels in love with her writing. The perfect balance of angst, heart, and headboard-rattling sex, I was utterly besotted by these characters from the get-go, and even struck on several occasions by how much I felt everything they were feeling, how in sync I was with their every emotion. Stir a quirky, fun-loving, bold, yet inherently vulnerable leading lady with a well-mannered, compassionate, true Southern gentleman, add a jilted groom scenario and a dash of dirty bedroom talk into the mix, and you have the makings of one of the most moving friends-to-lovers romances I’ve ever had the pleasure of reading. I can’t imagine a more perfect reading escape beginning to end!

I’ve found a new book to add to my favorites of 2018 list, and Getaway Girl is IT! I absolutely LOVED this friends to lovers romance!! We have a mayor hero who’s self-conscious about his bubble butt and a fierce, dirty-talking heroine who saves him after his bride ditches him at the altar. It’s sweet, incredibly sexy (it’s Tessa Bailey, after all) and all-around the perfect friends to lovers romance – I highly recommend this for those who love trope!

I have a friend. A completely platonic, non-romantic one.
But occasionally I rub one out to her.

When Addison Potts moves back to Charleston and attends her estranged cousin’s wedding, the last thing she expects is be the getaway car for the jilted groom, one Captain Elijah Montgomery Du Pont, candidate for mayor. There’s just something about Elijah that pulls Addison, and she couldn’t resist helping him out. The two strike up the most unlikeliest of friendships – as a candidate for mayor, Elijah is expected to keep up appearances as the perfect Southern gentleman, which he is. Addison, on the other hand, is the black sheep of the family and town. But these two characters GET each other and are able to connect in a way they’ve never been able to connect with anyone else. Somehow, they end up being roommates, then friends… but is there possibly more?

“You own this city now, Mr. Mayor. Right now, that includes what’s under my dress.”

The tension throughout the book was divine. Elijah and Addison connect on the friendship level, yes, but there’s always an underlying sexual chemistry that’s hard to ignore. They struggle not to cross the line into something more, but when their dynamic is fun, witty, and flirty, it’s hard to know where the line even is. Tessa Bailey had me DYING for Addison and the Captain to just do the deed – this is one author who knows how to write sexual tension right. And when the line is crossed… let me tell you, the dirty talking queen doesn’t disappoint. I loved that the heroine was main dirty talker in this case, though Elijah could definitely dish some out too. The passion and intensity between these two was perfection!

“You have my heart. You have my soul. And you’re the first and land person to ever have either one. I love you first. And last. I’ve only got this feeling for you. No one else. Never. Do you hear me?”

If you love the friends to lovers trope, I can’t recommend Getaway Girl enough. I adored the characters, the story had me hooked, and the chemistry was off the charts. I also loved that this was in dual first-person POV. Tessa definitely has a knack for it, and I really hope she gives us more of it! Also… can we please have a story for Addison’s cousin, the runaway bride!?

Trigger Warnings:

This was a pretty meh read, I didn’t know what to read next and decided to pick this up. I remember julia ✿ loving this so it was nice to talk with her about my thoughts while reading. This book is my first Tessa Bailey book and I wasn’t blown away, I know this book is loved by so many of y’all but it was super boring at first. I had a hard time getting into it because I couldn’t really buy the connection between Elijah and Addison. Their chemistry was meh, but it gets better after 40%ish. The story isn’t that great, it’s different but I just didn’t care for the characters much. When I was reading, I was just ready for it to end so I could move on to my next read. Elijah is super wish-washy, like julia ✿ mentioned in her review. He was just really annoying, the issues could have been resolved easily if there was communication. The characters have a unique meet-cute and it is funny, the banter is nice but I just wasn’t into it. I could see why people like this but I wasn’t motivated to read or learn more about the characters.

Elijah, the soon-to-be mayor that is under the spotlight is ready to get married. What he doesn’t expect is for his fiance to stand him up at the altar. He doesn’t expect a gorgeous stranger to offer him a ride and take him away from his reality and give him an escape. Addison couldn’t help but feel bad for Elijah when he is stood up by his fiance. She gives him a ride and lets him come over and they slowly get to know each other. But the soon-to-be mayor is always under the spotlight and does everything he can to hide his private life, which might include Addison whether she likes it or not.

Elijah and Addison aren’t that memorable but there are some scenes that make this book a bit memorable. I’ll name em in the spoilers but if you know, you know lol. There’s not much else I can add other than meh, so Imma do spoilers now.

Now for spoilers

I cannot wait to read Naomi’s book since Julia recommended it and liked it more. But yea, stay safe folks!

Much as I hate to say it, this one kinda dragged on. I wasn’t as involved in it as the quickies I’ve been reading...

The kinky butt stuff was fun tho. I do love a firm round man butt!

4.25 stars!

It was so refreshing to read about hero who is not total asshole. Okay, I love first class assholes and alpha males, but it was refreshing to read about nice and kind guy with filthy mind. This was my first Tessa Bailey's book and it took me by surprise how hot she can write. I loved chemistry between Addison and Elijah and the way story developed.

After seeing a lot of reviews on goodreads speak highly of Tessa Bailey as an author, I decided to jump into this book to see for myself and I WAS BLOWN AWAY BY IT!

Addison is every reader's dream of a feisty heroine but it was Elijah who stole the show for me! He is an absolute gentleman, polite, respectful and well mannered. But inside the bedroom it's a whole other story *wink* *wink*

These 2 characters are complete opposites who are perfect for each other. I would highly recommend it, if for not for anything else, then atleast for these 2 amazingly well written characters.

Finally, without giving out any spoilers, that axe and the mattress scene, made me want to sit up and clap! Not sure what that says of me though ;)

3.5 - 4 Stars

I had such a great time reading The Getaway Girl. Addison is a hoot with very unique job which I enjoyed. Elijah is one sexy and very kind man. Damn he wooed me with his southern charm and his dirty mouth in bed. Their friendship evolves a great pace and their chemistry is palpable. What went on in Addison’s tiny Christmas apartment was definitely a highlight of mine. Them making Christmas ornaments and just enjoying each other’s company was wonderfully written. The pace slowed halfway through which made me loose focus from time to time but luckily it picked up again. This was my first book by Tessa Bailey and knowing now that Naomi will get her own book I definitely know which book of hers I’ll be reading next.

Getaway Girl by Tessa Bailey

Official Summary:

This unlikely getaway driver never expected to help the mayor escape…

After a six-year absence, Addison Potts is back in Charleston to stir things up. And what better place to make her villainous return than her estranged cousin’s wedding? Only, the nuptials hit a snag when the bride doesn’t show, leaving Addison to play getaway driver for the jilted groom. A groom whose heartbreaking smile and deep, southern drawl she should not be noticing…

Elijah Montgomery Du Pont is the future mayor of Charleston. From his military career to city hall, every detail of his life has been meticulously planned. Until now. His only respite from life’s sudden upheaval is Addison, his new, improbable best friend. She makes him happy. Grounds him. And public disapproval be damned, he’s not willing to give her up. But with an election on the line and public pressure rising, Addison—and the cruel hand of fate—might not give him a choice.

What I Liked:

Tessa Bailey's books and I go a long way back, starting with Officer Off Limits, which is still one of my favorites of hers and one of my favorite Entangled Brazen novels to date. Bailey's books always deliver the sexy, the sweet, the dirty, and the HEA. Getaway Girl is Bailey's second self-published novel and it is yet another hit for me!

Addison Potts is back in Charleston, after her grandmother died and left her a business to run. The book starts with Addison sneaking into her cousin's wedding - her prim, rich, golden-girl cousin is marrying the golden boy, mayor's son, future mayor himself. When Addison lays eyes on the groom, she knows there is something about this man. There is an instant heat, but that's her cousin's husband-to-be, right? Wrong. Naomi stands up Elijah, leaving Elijah alone in a church full of southerners who want to see a wedding. What's a guy to do? Leave. And what's a girl to do? Offer him a ride to get away, of course. Elijah and Addison strike up an unconventional friendship, with her offering him her home as a sanctuary, as friends. With Addison, Elijah feels comfort, home, and peace. With Elijah, Addison feels less adrift in Charleston. But friendship isn't what either of them want. With the election looming, Elijah can't afford another scandal, especially not the kind involving Addison Potts, who has a history of her own in Charleston.

Addison is such a tough lady, and it was impossibly easy to like her. She is prickly at times, and she delivers honesty and bluntness with no games or sugar-coating. She has thick skin, especially with her family history in Charleston - she has to have thick skin. Addison also has a good heart; she opened her home to a stranger, seeing that he needed comfort and simplicity.

Elijah is such a southern gentleman, with the charm and the manners. He treats Addison like a proper lady, he doesn't curse (not aloud, anyway), he uses manners like "yes ma'am", and he thinks of everyone else first. He's the mayor's son and he is set to win the upcoming election and take his father's place. Elijah has always had a lot of expectations placed on him, and he handles them well, but sometimes expectations are overwhelming. Meeting Addison was the best thing for Elijah, because she showed him a much simpler and quiet life.

I love how the pair became friends, good friends, and learned to trust and be comfortable with each other. It's so rare that you see two characters grow as friends first, before becoming more. Usually they're already friends, or they meet and start dating soon after. This was cute because they drew the line on their first meeting - they were going to be friends and no more. With Elijah just having been jilted at his wedding, and with his spotless reputation, they couldn't afford to be seen as anything more than friends. I liked this development of the relationship - it's friends to lovers, but from the very beginning of the friendship.

When things finally cross over to the "more-than-friends" side... whew! It got hot really quickly. Don't get me wrong - Elijah and Addison were both attracted to each other from the start. But they didn't act on their attraction. But when they do, there are fireworks and thunder. They have great chemistry and all that bottled-up tension explodes on the page. Bailey always writes really hot romances and steamy sexy times. She has become more inventive and creative with each book. The heroine is a dirty talker, and the hero is a selfless guy who likes to please his lady. It's a good match!

There is much more to this story than the romance - in fact, the romance is on par with the "other" plot. Elijah's election is probably the biggest part of the story, as it dictates a lot of Elijah and Addison's relationship. With her history (which I won't talk about), and the fact that Elijah just got stood up at the altar, they have to be careful. Addison's family history comes up and that's another big part of the story. But everything comes together in the end, romance included.

The ending is a wonderful HEA! Addison gets resolution in terms of some personal things, Elijah finds balance in his life, and the pair figure out how to make things work for them. I love a good ending that involves both characters waking up.

This is a fantastic self-published contemporary romance novel that is satisfying and engrossing from start to finish. With a unique plot and lush backdrop, Getaway Girl is a novel that I'll be rereading in the future. I'm always down for more Bailey romances!

What I Did Not Like:

Nothing specific comes to mind!

Would I Recommend It:

If you like steamy adult contemporary romance novels, this is definitely one for you. I'd recommend any of Bailey's books, but I will say that her books have gotten steamier and steamier, with each one she writes. Some may not work for everyone; this one involved a dirty-talking heroine, and a selfless hero who had minor alpha tendencies. It's a friends-to-lovers, slow-burn, high-tension, chemistry-filled romance that really delivers when the sexy times kick in. I recommend it!

Rating:

4 stars. I didn't really care for Naomi, BUT I think it would be so cool to read her story. Where did she go for two months? What was she doing? Better yet - let's see the aftermath of the two months, with her back in town and Elijah/Addison already together and squared away. It would be cool to see her find love, especially since there were no hard feelings between her and Elijah. Anyway, I also wouldn't mind this book being a complete standalone, so there's that!

OH MY.... Getaway Girl is pure Tessa Bailey Gold!

Spectacular setting, unforgettable and overall kickass heroine, and a true southern gentleman with not so polite - yes, please *cue fanning myself* -, but panty scorching manners behind closed doors.
Getaway Girl made me laugh, made my heart clench, made me cry, made me hot and left me with a smile on my face and glowing happiness in my heart! Much like Addison herself, I felt I could fly. What a RIDE! I simultaneously never wanted it to end, but was oh SO blissful that these two so strong, but yet so vulnerable characters got their HEA! <3 <3 <3 <3

I liked this book but the last third or so was kind of... I don’t know. It wasn’t too bad, but I felt like a few things weren’t necessary, drama-wise I mean.

There are also a few really dirty things in here so be prepared. I’m not a prude but I don’t think I’ll be trying those things out myself any time soon.... Those who enjoy it: go for it and have a blast.
