It's a great premise, get survivors from other Predator comics and have them all team up to hunt down Predators. Unfortunately, that never really happens. At a certain point, this descends into Most Dangerous Game territory and we never really get that all-star team of Predator fighters. That would be a great idea for an ongoing Predator series though. The art and coloring were top notch.

Predator (1987) meets The Most Dangerous Game(1932) in an action-packed twists-filled mini-series nailing for good the essence of the franchise and refreshing it.



Sadly the references to previously released Dark Horse comics that I have not read (Predator: Big Game and Predator: Nemesis) left me like I arrived late to watch a Predator movie already started, after an excellent start the first contact of badass Jaya Soames and her team of hunters survivors of previous meetings with the yautja turned in the usual massacre of cannon fodder not well developed characters and central part of the series needed at last 1 issue more to be a real good one.



Great and gorgeous hyper-dynamic artworks but sometimes they seemed lacking detail and confusing to me.



3,5 stars turned up to 4 by one of the greatest endings ever in a Predator tale.

What starts off as a fresh take on an old favorite quickly, although turgidly, devolves into the very comic book muck from which its derived. Initial lush colorations give way to something seemingly derived from cardboard and the quality within reflects a ramen noodle like impotency. Filler replaces actual character development and the overall source from which its derived (Connell’s The Most Dangerous Game) falls a million miles from its excellence. Predictable, boring, and ultimately trite the only hunting going on here was for parting fools from their money.

Take pride in your IQ and disdain this plebeian filth.

Lackluster characters once more. It seems to plague the second Omnibus volume of Predator. However, the predators? The kills? This some good stuff. I like how this feels more like a hunting game for them and wished we got more of that with characters I gave a shit about.

Спочатку я думав, що поставлю цьому коміксу 5/5. Перші два томи були мало не ідеальні. Жорстокі, криваві, відповідали всім канонам, але ще й ставили хижаків і людей в незвичні ситуації та ролі.

Проте вже в другому томі на поміч жинка-головнокомандувач кілька разів кликала русскіх друзєй, що мене трохи тригерило і викликало відторгнення.

Коли у третьому томі зʼявився цілий загін русскіх, я навіть трохи зрадів, бо сподівався, що хижаки зроблять з них хороших русскіх. І частково мої надії справдилися.

Через русскіх віднімаю 2 бали. За те, що хижаки час від часу робили русскіх хорошими +1 бал

While largely entertaining, Hunters still falls victim to an all too frequent folly in Predator/Alien media: too large a focus on the human characters, not enough on the Predators. In Warner's defense, it is difficult to stay away from this type of plot when your aliens can't speak human languages (for the most part) and are morally ambiguous enough to not fit under hero or villain. However, it is difficult to develop any kind of caring feelings for characters when you know that maximum one will survive the encounter, and the rest will be dead by the end of the story. Specifically with Hunters, they did something interesting, but not enough of that something to make it overly memorable. The human characters also felt to similar to characters from previous iterations when put together in the same space, i.e. Predators (2010), and therefore did not stand out in any major way. Which longtime readers of the Dark Horse comics will find disappointing, as they are all-stars from the various comics published throughout the years. While not quite a swing and a miss, Hunters could accurately be referred to as a Foul Ball.

Українська версія. Товща за "зошит" російською, з твердою обкладинкою, з двома додатковими сюжетними арками, які мали б закрити історію приватного загону по боротьбі з прибульцями та залишили по собі відчуття недомовок та розчарування.

Почну з того, що українська локалізація тут посередня. Легенькі фрази йдуть перекладачам швидко, над важкими фразами вони відмовляються думати та перекладають напряму. І це буває настільки погано, що губиться контекст та суть деяких жартів, якими обмінюються персонажі. Наїзди персонажів одне на одного виглядають так, наче сам учасник діалогу довго підбирає слова, а в результаті промовляє якусь надто костурбату фразу.

Сюжет. Є прибульці, є мисливці на них, інколи вони міняються місцями, поганий-препоганий уряд (чи уряди, враховуючи третю арку) хоче технологій прибульців, але лажає там, де не лажають приватні групи.

Перша історія про джунглі, і лише лінивий не написав про її схожість на "Найнебезпечнішу здобич". Це такий класичний фільм першої половини минулого століття, де русня-білий ахвіцер влаштував на тропічному острові полювання на людей, і нічого йому за те не було аж до одного неприємного дня... (французи навіть продовження цієї історії намалювали, і вона могла б бути епічною, якби не всратий фінал - коротше, колись напишу і про це).

До полювання додали ще місцевий карго-культ, і ось вам історія про позаземних хижаків, яких косплеять місцеві довбеники, аби щось собі довести. Ядро історії - полювання посеред хащів - тут виглядає органічно.

Далі мисливці на мисливців опиняються в Афганістані, бо саме про цю країну в одного з них були флешбеки... Насправді, це не зовсім так - просто там почав масово вбивати хижак. Чувак з флешбеками закриває свою арку разом із собою, купа бойових сцен, де фіг що розбереш, фаталіті хижака - цілком нормальний фінал. Прямолінійно, але читач отримує те, за чим прийшов.

І фінальна арка - джунглі. Знову джунглі, наркокартелі, кгбшні спецпризначенці і двійко хижаків. Сюжет про приватну компанію мисливців розбавляють сценами того, как хижаки вбивають бійців наркокартелів. Ніхто навіть не намагається нагнати напруження - там, де з'являється хижак, починається м'ясорубка. Від сцени з вирваними хребтом і черепом вже починає нудить, автори перевикористали її багато разів. Якоїсь особливої винахідливості у тих бійнях немає. Коли закінчуються наркокартелі, з'являються якісь зовсім ліві туристи, що лазять джунглями у небезпечній країні без озброєної охорони. А коли туристи закінчуються, починається русня, якій потрібні інопланетні айфони для вялічія.

Аби читач не заснув, в історію додали брата Датча (нууу, пригадуємо... це головний герой оригінального "Хижака"), який, власне, його і шукає. Персонаж стає корисним лише під фінал, коли кілька разів штрикає одного з хижаків ножем.

Фінал. От уявіть, вас накачують екшончиком - тут вибухи, там стрілянина, комусь рубають кінцівки, хтось страшно верещить, лазери-шмазери. Ви просто очікуєте, що фінал буде епічним. Але ні. Ніфіга. Персонаж, який міг коцнути кількох прибульців, тупо кинув зброю. Сценаристи нехитрим способом пішли в моралізаторство, і перед нами кінцівка другого фільму про хижаків, але без обіцянок, натяків та гумору.

Note: I read this via the second massive omnibus (on Kindle). The plan is to review each trade/mini-series/whatever as I finish them, rather than the whole omnibus or every single issue.

Nakai is brought back once again, alongside the great-granddaughter of the protagonist from Predator: Nemesis (Soames), and Graves from whichever one was about the ex-CIA paintball course dude. Swain and Herrera are also given a very brief intro, but I definitely don't remember a drug trafficker character or whatever Swain is supposed to be (mostly because Africa and Afghanistan have been used multiple times as settings and he's just generic military asshole, which is 75% of this series' characters) from previous minis, so I think they're just original to this mini.

Unfortunately, this fell short of delivering on the premise. There's barely any real interaction between the human group and the Predator group. It's more of a thin foundation for the "real" antagonists.

The art is fantastic, though. I also really love the design of the Predators and the simplicity of their gear (which is a plot point).

Characters were overall okay. I didn't really like Big Game, but I liked Nakai as a protagonist there. It was cool to see him come back. Swain is a racist, misogynistic, cowardly piece of shit. Figures he'd make it out. Soames seems interesting and she pulled her weight here rather than just being the one who gathered the group together. Looking forward to seeing more of her in the next two minis.

I don't really know what year this is supposed to take place in, but pretty sure it's not meant to match the publication date. Nakai would be quite a bit older if that were the case. (There's also the fact that Graves had white hair at the end of the mini she was originally in, and does here as well, but at the time of reading that first appearance, I didn't actually think that was supposed to be an indication of time passing, for whatever reason.) When the early miniseries were coming out pretty consistently, it was easy enough to have characters return before much time had passed, and for them to directly mention years (like when characters who know about the events of the first movie reference "Guatemala, 10 years ago" or whatever) which basically matched the real-world year. Not so much now with the big gaps in the early 2000s. (Obviously a book can be set in a different time period from when it was written. Just saying that the comics have gotten more ambiguous about it in newer series.)

Aaaanyway. I liked the art, and the setup is hopefully here for the second and third Hunters series, but this one fell a bit flat with what it seemed to be promising.

Вообще, не очень понятно, кто придумал, что Хищник - это какой-то инопланетный воин, со своим кодексом, ритуалами и прочими делами? Имхо, он обычный браконьер, прилетающий на сафари поубивать глупых мартышек с пукалками, которые и так бы себя перестреляли, причем еще и упивающийся своим превосходством над ними, впрочем, заслуженно. Представьте себе мажора на сафари в Африке! А то, что "не убивает безоружных", "выходит на равных" - так неспортивно же, хотя всё равно же с безоружным Датчем бился, из разряда "Да я тебя голыми руками порву, обезьяна лысая!", и равным тот бой трудно было назвать. Вообще, конечно, осознанное уничтожение разумных видов не очень хорошо пахнет идеологией расового превосходства... Но нет, в комиксах наворотили столько всякого яутжизма, что теперь это безнадёжно просачивается везде, где только можно, включая последний фильм, из которого можно было сделать хороший Вендиго-хоррор, но вместо этого содатели решили показать, какого же крутого Хищнягу они наворотили на этот раз (кино смотрибельное, хоть и со странным послевкусием).
В общем, Яутжа-мифологию можно увидеть и в этом комиксе. По сюжету, у нас есть группа солдат, встречавшихся с Хищниками (в том числе, в других комиксах) и победивших их, организация, которая выискивает следы браконьеров, и остров в океане, где заметили оных. Десант высокотехнологичных солдат высаживается в джунглях, но очень быстро понимает, что роли охотников с жертвами меняются местами...
Главная фишка комикса в том, что группу Хищников заперли на этом острове, отобрав все гаджеты. И тогда непонятно, как они дышали, как воспроизводили речь - в "Predator" этим занималась маска, явно кислородная смесь была, но в других пропорциях, вряд ли без неё долго в нормальной кондиции были бы.
Ну а в "Охотниках" Хищники спокойно имитируют голоса людей без техники, дышат земной атмосферой десятилетиями - не, мало ли, вдруг она даёт силу прыжкам, а-ля Супермен...
В целом, комикс приятный: рисовка приятная, сюжет не фонтан, но неплох. Может, если бы не желание светить Хищниками - то было бы еще лучше, less is more, но томе написано "Хищник", в томе - он же, значит, любителям подойдёт.

Po wielu latach Predator powraca na łamy komiksu od Dark Horse pod własnym sztandarowym tytułem albo mi się tak wydaje gdyż przez długi czas nikt nawet nie wspominał o nowych komiksach z tym kosmitą.

Kosmiczni drapieżnicy od lat przybywają na różne planety by tropić i zabijać godnych sobie przeciwników. Na łamach komiksu Predator: Hunters dowiadujemy się w jaki sposób zdobycz zmienia się w łowcę i jednoczy się przeciwko oprawcy.

Scenariusz Chrisa Warnera przedstawia historię w jaki sposób myśliwy będzie walczył z innym, równie wyspecjalizowanym zabójcą. Poznajemy losy osób, które przeżyły kontakt z Predatorem i dzięki świetnie narysowanym retrospekcją Francisco Ruiza Velasco poczujemy więź z głównymi bohaterami serii.

Świetne balansowanie między brutalną historią, dramatyzmem i odrobiną humoru to niewątpliwa zaleta komiksu. Dodatkowo rysunki są nader realistyczne i bardzo dokładne.

Czyta się ten pierwszy tom bardzo przyjemnie choć to nie jest to czego oczekiwałem po tym tytule. Potencjał jest dużo większy, a z tego co zauważyłem pojawia się już kontynuacja pierwszej części więc możne niedługo kolejne zeszyty trafią na mój tablet.

Predator hunters, is the first of a 3 story arc that follows a group of previous characters from other Predator stories working together as a task force to hunt the common foe they all share.

I love this idea so much. I like seeing and having a lot or previous predator survivors working together to hunt other predators. When the hunter, becomes the hunted.

Great art, a good start to this pretty neat story, and lots of kills. I would consider this one of the better Predator stories in recent years for sure.

Will this tale change my life? Not a chance.

Should this be considered for a movie adaptation? Absolutely!

I know there's a follow-up to this series (two actually, but the third installment is incomplete at the time of this review) and that's just proof the concept works. Make it a series of movies. Make it a TV series.

As for the book itself? I love the story and the fact they bring existing lore from books past together into this one. The art is pretty and the idea that the Yautja would adapt and use wood to replace defunct armor is fun, too. It made for a great look.

Interesting premise as survivors of previous Predator encounters use their knowledge and experience to take on more of the creatures. Unfortunately that’s all it’s got going for it. Characters are flat and just keep saying the same things again and again. Action isn’t particularly well done or interesting and I didn’t care for the coloring. I didn’t really buy the twist either. Worth a read for only the biggest Predator fans.

Koncept nebol zo začiatku zlý, ale dianie bolo predvídateľné a scenár začínal mať postupne stále viac dier. Plus ma príbeh dostatočne nestrhol. A to mám veci okolo Predátorov veľmi rád. Druhej sérii dám určite šancu, keďže tam by si mohli odpustiť niektoré úvodné omáčky a poriadne to rozbehnúť. Ako jednohubka to ale funguje.

Намальовано місцями гарно - коли йдеться про монстрів. Люди занадто... квадратні, чи що...
Сюжет повторює "Голодні ігри", "Королівську битву" та шоу про виживання в джунглях, де багато джунглів, та мало, власне, виживання. Посередньо і неатмосферно. Франшиза не може запропонувати нічого нового і топчеться на місці.

I really liked this book. I found it original and very engaging. I’ve never seen the Predator presented like this and I found it very refreshing. I also liked seeing a team up of previous survivors of Predator encounters. I look forward to reading the next book in this series.

A group of people who have survived encounters with the Predators, decide to hunt them down.

Pretty basic plot, there is a twist thrown in which really doesn't do much.

A good way of getting a predator fix but nowhere near the quality of the movies.
