As an avid reader from a young age, it only made sense that one day I would write my own stories. I grew up in a small town in central Alberta Canada where there wasn't much to do but read, cheer on the Oilers and attempt to enjoy the long winter months.

After high school, I attended college where I played 4 years of college basketball and eventually went into Recreation as a career. I stayed at the college I graduated from, before making the move to full-time writing.

My first book series, The WATCHER Series, was self-published in 2017 and later picked up by Aelurus Publishing to be republished. The three-book series, along with a second four-book series EVERMARKED, set in the same world have been released in 2020.

Currently, along with finishing up the above series, I am working on my first YA Fantasy word titled THE SIX THRONES (check out a sneak peek in my blog at www.ajeversley.com) which I hope to have out soon as well!

I read this in one sitting because I could not wait after finishing Carbon. Death is coming to Sawyer and her people and she has no way to stop it. With Max at her side, they both want the same thing, for Coleman to be gone and the people to be safe. But at what cost? I loved this story, and loved the fast pace with the romance intertwined. It wasn't the usual choice of past and present loves and it broke my heart as I kept reading to the end. This is a hell of a good book and I can not speak highly enough of the series as a whole. It's just downright amazing and I loved every second of it! Highly recommended!

I chose to read this book after receiving a free e-copy. All opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased. I had read and reviewed Watcher and Carbon so I was looking forward to reading Savior and I was not disappointed.

Savior picks up a short time after the end of Carbon. Sawyer seems to have finally accepted the fact that she is a Carbon. She's in a relationship with Max who helped her get through Kenzie's death. But Kenzie is alive and has been turned into the enemy by Coleman so they have him in a cell with his powers controlled. Poor Sawyer truly loves Max but still has a bond with Kenzie that won't let her go, no matter how much she tries and despite the fact that he tried to kill her.

The characters are well developed and they're as complex as "real" people. The main characters have gone through so much and they're so strong, that it's difficult to read about these further trials that they're going through. Sawyer is in an impossible situation as far as her relationships are concerned and she doesn't feel comfortable being the Savior. She wants to help others and doesn't want to be the recipient of help from others, which is understandable given her nature. There are a lot of characters but it was easy for me to keep them separate.

Savior is full of action, heartache, war, a couple of twists, and even a little humor. I was not able to put this book down after the first couple of chapters. There was so much happening throughout the book and I had to find out how everything would turn out. I liked the ending, which is good after reading three books.

The only thing that bothered me was the lack of editing. Normally I wouldn't give 5 stars to a book that needs editing, but this book was so good I wouldn't feel right giving it just 4 stars.

From the very first page I was once again quickly immersed into the world of Watcher. Sawyer has lost so much already but she knows Coleman will be back to wage war and destroy the few who are not under his control. The story continues from where the second book ended, so readers would need to read the first two books to fully understand what is going on. There was enough backstory for me to remember what happened in the first two books that I read more than a year and a half ago.

As with her first two books I was again impressed with the author's ability to create a dystopian world, this time with the addition of the Mountain Men, strong compelling characters with complex issues and a plot that is well executed. There is a love triangle and the inevitable question as to who Sawyer will choose and how it will happen. As with any love triangle, I was torn and could feel my emotions warring as I sped through the pages. I read this book with every spare moment I had and finished it quite quickly with an ending that brought tears to my eyes.

Eversley has also written four novellas featuring the backstory of several characters (currently free on Amazon) that I read in between the novels which kept me invested in this trilogy as I waited for the final book. AJ Eversley is an author to watch for, and I eagerly anticipate reading more of her work. I know she has a new novel to be release soon and I know I will want to read it.

built on the first of the series and intensifies

Overall 5 out of 5 stars
Performance 5 out of 5 stars
Story 5 out of 5 stars

The Book Junkie Reads . . . Review of . . .SAVIOR (The Watcher, #3) . . . When the narration team was chosen for this series it was spot on. The story(ies) in themselves were great for me. Having them all made it all the more intense, intriguing, adventurous. Just plain more. Having a duo narration time from start to finish gave you a sense of familiarity. The down side of things was this was suppose to be the last in the series. I could have listen/read this series through more adventures. Sawyer was just all that and some. She took on girl power and made it more.
This series is highly recommended by me for a way to bond with your YA's or a way to draw a little younger crowed in to see the adventures they to could experience with a book. I got my ten year old son to listen with me and he really liked it. I asked for more audio books like this. I am excited.

I can't say it enough the narration pair did it. The trading off of the dual POVs. Their voices together made the entire series feel engaging. The listening experience was a vivid movie playing. I loved the series. I loved the narration.

Throughout this series, we have grown with both Sawyer and Kenzie through some fo the toughest parts of their lives. Now, Sawyer has finally accepted the fact that she is a Carbon, and she knows that she was given those powers in order to protect other people. Even though her beloved Kenzie is trying to kill her, she knows that she can trust in Max to help her finally defeat Coleman.

I have to say that the love triangle was a little irritating to me at some points in the story. I hated seeing Max hurt, and I couldn't see much of  a reason to keep the triangle going at first. Clearly, Kenzi has issues since he was programmed by Coleman. By the end it made a little more sense, but it didn't erase my pain entirely.

But I digress. The storyline was addictive like the other two books, and the battle scenes between Coleman and Sawyer's crew were fun to read. I even liked the ending to some degree, which was strange for me with trilogies!

I would recommend this trilogy to anyone looking for a fast-paced group of stories with a strong female main character and an addictive storyline.

The third book in the Watcher series does not disappoint. It follows the main characters Sawyer, Kenzie and Max as they continue to battle the evil Dr. Coleman. AJ Eversley weaves new interesting characters and layers into this final book, creating a story I could not put down. It was so action packed I found myself constantly saying just one more chapter. There continues to be twists you don't see coming, making it hard to figure out what will happen to the beloved characters.
If you're a fan of dystopian young adult books I would recommend this series and the additional novellas.

A fitting end to the Watcher series! Sawyer is such a strong and courageous character that the reader can't help but be drawn in by her. There were many harrowing moments which kept me on the edge of my seat. I will miss Sawyer. I look forward to reading the Watcher mini novellas.

If your streets and the buildings around you were all empty, how would you react? It would be quite lonely, one would imagine–if you were one of the only humans left, fighting against robots for the survival of the human species? That is a lot of pressure for one person to have. Eversley continues nears the journey to an end with this third installment, one of science fiction and adventure which will pull readers in quickly and keep them hanging on every detail.

Sawyer is hanging on by to the small chance that her and her people will survive Coleman’s wrath along with his hundreds of thousands of armed carbons. Her only chance of defeating him once and for all is to enlist help from some unlikely groups in order to build up an army against him. As if the odds weren’t skirting on impossible as is, there is now a new threat that has come to the world that Coleman has created, a disease that is airborne and rapidly infecting carbons. Sawyer and Kenzie head back to an old and abandoned location in the heart of her homeland, only to find that there are carbons that have been mutated or transformed into black scaly creatures straight out of their nightmares. Not fully understanding the effects of the disease, Sawyer becomes infected and must find a way to bring the war to Coleman in order to save not only the ones that she loves, but also herself from turning into one of those hideous, carnivorous reeks. Time and power are against Sawyer in every way imaginable, but the stars tell all. Do the stars show her imminent death and the death of all of those who she has fought so hard to protect?

Eversley has a superb story-line, filled with creativity, world-building, and originality. We’ve all heard and seen science fiction novels and movies, but Eversley brings a new twist to the fold. The pace is quick and steady from the beginning and carries through the entirety of the story. She provides that urgency to understand the depth of extinction the human race faces. Since this review compliments the audiobook, both narrators did fantastic work with voice relay. The scenes were vivid for the imagination and characters were credible. This is the third and final installment in the Watcher Series, so it is recommended that readers do read or listen through the first and second installments before diving into the this final one. If you are interested in action and science fiction, this may be a perfect fit.

Note: This is Book 3 in the series and you really need to experience the first 2 books in order to enjoy this story.

I liked this book better than Book 2 (Carbon), which had a lot of teen angst in it. Book 3 grabbed me right away and kept the action coming. Even when the plot devolves a bit back into teen angst near the end, there’s so much action going on that I had to ride it to the end. I had to know what happened, who lived and who died.

Kenzie is back in Sawyer’s life but he’s a danger. The evil Dr. Coleman (who remains a one-dimensional character until the bitter end) has a hold on Kenzie which can force him to violent actions against his own will. Everyone treats Kenzie like a beaten, distrustful, dangerous dog on a leash.

I really enjoyed the ice bears and the Mountain Man clans as well as the Ladies of the Forest. I think their unique live styles gave an extra dimension to the story. Plus, who doesn’t want an ice bear companion while riding in to battle?

Max and his relationship with Sawyer develops further and the two seem quite comfortable with each other at this point. I really felt they would do anything for each other… at least until Sawyer pulls an unplanned betrayal of Max’s trust. While that does happen towards the end, we still had like 3 or 4 hours of the book left in which the love triangle and all that teen angst had time to play out. I was invested in the characters at this point, so I had to finish it. Yet…. yet…. argh! I really dislike love triangles and we’re busy fighting for humanity here – shelve the teen angst! So, yeah, I had mixed feelings about how things ended. I liked how some things carried out but was let down by all the added and unnecessary drama of the love triangle.

I give it a 4/5 stars for Book 3 and 3.5/5 stars for the trilogy.

The Narration: Chelsea Stephens has the bulk of the narration for this book and she’s great with Sawyer’s voice. I especially liked her voice for the demented Dr. Coleman and for young Lina. Stephens also did great with all the emotional scenes, even if some of those scenes were silly added drama. Steve Campbell had a few scenes here and there where he voiced Max or Kenzie. He did these well. There were no technical issues with the recording. 5/5 stars.

This is so unfair! I hate that great series have “final books” and I hate that the last book has a limited amount of pages because “The Watcher Series” has been one fantastic ride. I would have never imagined I would devour this story. I loved book 1, book 2 exceeded my expectations and book 3 made me anxious to find out what would happen, but also sad that it’s over.

I have so many feelings. The author did a terrific job with the world and the characters. She made them real and believable. The intensity of the action, the emotions and how well they are linked makes the reader live this book, not just read it. It was an experience, not just a book.

Sawyer has so many things to handle now. She has the world to save – no pressure – and she has her feelings to handle. One would expect this love triangle to feel like an unnecessary complication, but that’s not it. The love triangle and all the other plot related activities are on the same level – nothing falls behind. All falls in place just right.

The narration was fantastic as well. Chelsea Stephens and Steve Campbell kept me so focused! I usually crochet while listening to an audiobook, but in this case I was not able. Because they captivated me with their narration, with how they showed the feelings.

Everything falls beautifully into place. This series is one of my favorites now and I need to read the novellas that contain the backstories for some of our characters. I do recommend you check this series out and I hope you will love it as much as I did. AJ Eversley is now one of my favorite authors and I cannot wait to see what she has in store for us next. 5 stars and my devotion!

The conclusion to Savior is jam-packed with action, angst, and heartache.

Savior picks up just after Carbons ends. Sawyer is back and stronger than ever. Like with book two, the readers are introduced to some new characters who add a lot to the story. One thing I loved about this series is that there were no unnecessary characters or plot-lines added for drama or intrigue. Everything and everyone introduced served a purpose in either the development of one of the main characters or the plot. The "mountain men" were super interesting, and I would read a full-length novel just following their society.

The only thing I didn't love about Savior was the love triangle. I despise them, but since this is a personal preference, I wouldn't say it's fair to rate lower than the rest of the book deserves, which is a full 5/5 stars. Also, my ship didn't sail, so maybe I'm just a little salty about it still lol.

The conclusion of The Watcher series is nicely done in Savior. Throughout the series, I never felt like anything was rushed, and it progressed naturally, slowing down only for character development and then picking back up for more action in near-perfect intervals. If you're looking for a new dystopian sci-fi, I highly recommend checking this one out.

Audio:
5/5 stars
Narrated by: Chelsea Stephens and Steve Campbell
Length: 8 hrs and 49 mins

These are the same narrators as the previous books, and again, I was impressed with their narrations. As I said in my review of books one and two, both Chelsea Stephens and Steve Campbell are easy to listen to and able to give each character their unique voice.

This book was given to me for free at my request, and I provided this voluntary review.

"But it is also said that one moment can change a day, one day can change a life, and one life can change the world"

The good news is, it's a little better than the last offering in this series. The bad news is. . . I read a lot of dystopia and YA. . . sometimes even dystopian YA, and unfortunately I swear I have read this book under several different titles.

I don't know if there's just some coincidences, but some feel like maybe the author inadvertently "borrowed" ideas from other series - and unfortunately those other series are more prominent.

So. . . the killer robot things, that's not something I see too much of in books. It's a tad blade runner but alright, I'm game. example of borrowing: The carbons got a disease that turned them into crazed zombie things, called reeks. . . just like the people in the Maze runner series caught a virus that turned them into crazed zombie things called Cranks.

Much like with that series, I stated comparing these books to the hunger games as well. . . but hunger games also had a love triangle that although not completely flushed out with awkward writing I could still understand where the characters were coming from. . . and much like in Hunger Games they have some tragic boy who has been turned on the heroine.

Just like in Heather Anastasiu's Glitch series, characters have special abilities and must escape into a hidden resistance to avoid a crazed tyrant - I will say this one in particular is a bit more obscure and vague so it's likely just a similar theme.

I don't know, maybe I just need to read something different because it feels like every YA sci-fi story is repeating the same thing with minimal changes.

This is the final installment in this series. Sawyer, Kenzie, and Max seem to be the only ones capable of riding the world of the terrible looming shadow of Coleman. There are dwindling hopes, but not everything is lost.

I was looking forward to the resolution of this series, and waiting for Sawyer's decision about her love triangle. I have to say that the outcome was a bit predictable on that point, but it does not make it less satisfying. The characters evolved along the series, so by this time we have a clear image of them and know more or less what to expect. I could feel Sawyer's desperation, exhaustion, and anguish, which made me care for her and her companions.

All in all, it was a good ride, but somehow I was not able to feel the urgency the author wanted to transmit. We were informed at the beginning of the series that almost everyone was dead on Earth, save for this little group, but I couldn't help by thinking that there must be other little groups somewhere else, and that Coleman was too set on killing Sawyer and her little group like there was something personal about it.

The narration was again quite good, with Chelsea Stephens and Steve Campbell transmitting the characters emotions and bringing them to life. Both narrators did a fantastic job, and it was an excellent experience for the listener.

To get the most enjoyment from this book, I highly recommend reading the trilogy in order as this is really not a standalone. I’m glad I listened to this one so soon after the second volume because the pace is very fast and the interaction among the primary characters is intense; it helped not having to try to remember details from the earlier parts of the story.

While Sawyer and Max are certainly important, it’s Kenzie who held my attention the most this time. He’s truly a tortured soul and wondering how things would turn out for him…and Sawyer and Max…was more than a bit agonizing but I have to say I wish there wasn’t so much of the now-commonplace love triangle. With so much going on in the fight to save the world, the romantic elements were just a distraction.

Being perceived as the “savior” is uncomfortable for Sawyer but at least she’s finally accepted that her life will never be what it was before she learned the truth about herself and her world. Almost despite herself, she really is the last hope, so to speak.

I appreciated the way Ms. Eversley brought things to a close and don’t feel any lack in the ending. Ms. Stephens and Mr. Campbell rounded out their narration of the trilogy quite nicely and, in my opinion, had much to do with my enjoyment of the tale. I won’t be unhappy if these three collaborate again on another story in the future.

**SPOILER ALERT ** Be warned, the review contains spoilers tying this book to its predecessors.

“‘It has been said before that to sacrifice one’s self for the greater good is worth more than a thousand lives combined. But it is also said that one moment can change a day, one day can change a life, and one life can change the world.’ Alelish said,’Who are we to decide which life to sacrifice and which could change the world?’”

Sawyer, Max, Kenzie and Russo are back in the finale of the Watcher trilogy with a book that zigs when it should zag, running into blind corners you don’t expect, and generally racing about 80 in a 45 mph zone as their world, still under siege by Coleman and his army of Carbons is determined to make the world as HE thinks it should be.

But what if he’s wrong? Who can stand up to this megalomaniac? Is this what the stars have brought Sawyer and her posse up against because the suspense will tear our heroes’ emotionsapart better than any chaotic upheaval. You will be crying by the end...I guarantee it. Highly recommended. 5/5 for the book and 15/15 for the series

Overall, this was a good paranormal series with great characters but there were things I liked and disliked about this series. The suspense within the story was great, so was the romance, surprises, laugh out loud moments, betrayals, reunions and more. Sawyer started out in the beginning of this series as a strong character, and everyone kept mentioning how many lives she saved. However, it seems that as the story went on everyone else had to save her over and over even with the power, she held within her. I hated the way things ended for Max. I hated that it was him who gave up his life to save the others. Yes, I liked Kenzie, but I wished things ended differently for Max. I wanted him to have his HEA. The ending of the story wrapped up nicely for Sawyer and Kenzie and this was a good series overall, but I think this was a one-time story for me even though the narrators did a fantastic job.

Good series!

I loved the overall storyline but as the story progressed I realize I was not enjoying some of the characters as much. I would still recommend this series as it was very entertaining. Chelsea’s narration was very good although at times it was difficult to distinguish between some of the characters. Steve Campbell did a great job as well, however he doesn’t perform in the majority of this series.
This is book 3 and the final book in this series. I recommend this book/series.

What an awesome end to a fantastic story!
It’s been a long time since I’ve enjoyed a series like I have this one.
I can only hope AJ has more great work coming.
The action never stops in this last edition.
The twists and turns had me guessing until the very end.
I can’t give away any spoilers, but I can say that this episode ran the entire gamut of emotions.
There was joy, heartbreak, humor, anger, romance, heroism, villainy, you name it!
Thanks AJ for making my reading time a wonderful experience.
It was like taking a vacation without leaving my bed and that’s good because I’m disabled and bed bound.
AJ, your story allowed me to leave my dismal reality for a brief time and for that I’ll be forever thankful to you.
Everyone, please read AJ’s Watcher series, you’ll be very happy you did.
Sincerely,
Alan McDonald
