This is a spin-off of Eternal Flames and Eternal Maddox series. You do not need to have read either of them to read this series.
When Ezra finds out the truth of why his mate has kept him at a distance, he promises to make changes to ensure his mates safety and prove to Jewel how much he loves him. Jewel is thrilled that Ezra sticks to his word and let’s the walls around his heart shatter, allowing Ezra in completely. But just as he finds out about a special gift that will bring them closer together, someone kidnaps Jewel.
Cree Storm lives and works in Southern New Mexico. The only thing she loves more than reading about gorgeous men and love is writing about them. Spending time with her friends and family is very important to her. When she is not writing or spending time with the love of her life you can find her watching the Oregon Mountains with a nice hot cup of coffee and her laptop or on face book with her many friends.
For some reason, I felt like this was Ezra and Jewel's second book, but technically it is their first. The kind of piggy backed on Jaggers's book in the Maddox Series. So for them to get their own book now was like visiting two old friends for me.
We learn more about the vampires and watch them build a new town for themselves, literally. I am so glad that Ezra eavesdropped on Jewel's conversation. It probably saved their mating and their town.
I am so hoping that Nelson and Orion's Book is next.
Ezra has a lot on his shoulders. He is the new King and representative of his people on the Council. But his mate needs him. Jewel is struggling in his new role and home. He is also keeping secrets. Will he ever trust his mate enough to let him in? New Beginnings by Cree Storm and Maggie Walsh is first in their Kaliss series. While it is obvious this is a continuation to Ezra and Jewel’s journey to happily ever after, I was able to catch on pretty quickly.
I enjoyed meeting Jewel and Ezra. I enjoyed seeing them learn that love alone isn’t enough. While I don’t know the troubles Ezra and Jewel faced to get to this point, Ms. Storm and Ms. Walsh made it clear that trust and communication were what was currently lacking in their relationship. Jewel is unsure about most things and doesn’t trust in his mating. He is waiting for the other shoe to drop, so to speak. And while he is waiting, he hides much of himself from his mate. Ezra is a bit overwhelmed with his new position and isn’t managing it very well. I love that Ms. Storm and Ms. Walsh found a believable way for Ezra that Jewel to talk. Talk about their needs and desires. Talk about how they want their life together to unfold. Just talk in general. I enjoyed this story and want to see more of this world they have created.
Rating: 4 stars I thought this a good start to a new spin-off series to the Eternal Flames and Eternal Maddox series. Jewel came across a bit hard to like in those series, but I found that I really liked him in this book and felt a bit sorry for him as he tries to navigate life with the Vampires. I really liked that we got to see more of Orion and Nelson and hope we see more of them in future installments.
Ezra bugged me a bit in this story. His reluctance to involve the council and people of Maddox in times of trouble disturbed me a bit. I would think that if my mate was missing, I would want all the help I could get. The ending wrapped up some of the conflict but left much unresolved. Hopefully, we’ll get another installment soon. If you are a fan of the Eternal Flames/Maddox series, I think you will like this one. Although the blurb says that you do not need knowledge of the previous series to enjoy this book, be aware that if you are going into this new you may feel like you are being plopped into the middle of a story in progress.
This was a very creative and enthralling read. I love the work of these two authors and I highly appreciate and recommend their books. The relationship between Jewel and Ezra was sweet, strong, and sizzling hot. I'm interested to see what happens in the next part of this series. Excellent.
Great new spin off. I already loved both Eternal Flame series and now I am going to love this new series also. Well written with awesome ass kicking characters. I can not wait to see what happens next.
