He elaborates on his other book, Love and Respect, but gives a very good overview in case you haven't read it (which I haven't [yet?]). He uses those basic principles and applies them practically to communicating with your spouse. However, I felt that the book primarily spoke to how to interpret what your spouse says and then respond but did not spend enough time on specifically talking about being proactive in showing love or respect through your communication. To be fair, he doesn't ignore the proactive versus reactive aspect of communication, but I felt that it could have been more balanced. Overall, I liked the book and learned a lot.

I don't think this is a bad workbook. I do wish it could stand on its own (not be so dependent on the hardcover book), but I am getting something out of it :)
