The Furies #1

Angels of Vengeance

(new revision with edits)

Megaera, Tisiphone and Alecto are The Motorcycle riding Goddesses of Revenge, strong women kicking ass and celebrating the feminine divine. They track and kill those who’ve murdered and have escaped justice, killing them in as bloody a fashion as possible. Morbidly funny.
A primordial demon, Sorath, AKA "The Beast", has escaped the bonds of the underworld, hopped a ride on an unsuspecting human…and is on a warpath, determined to bring about Armageddon, killing every god he can find along the way. Becoming a small-town serial killer is just the power-up he needs.
Detective Dan Lanahan doesn’t believe in gods. He certainly doesn’t believe in dragons and demons. All he knows is that someone just left his niece tied to a tree, eyes gouged out, mysterious symbols carved into her flesh, and now they’re on a murderous rampage through his town. He’s going to stop this killer if it’s the last thing he does…even if that means going face to face with the impossible.
To make matters worse, now Megaera is in love with him.
Meanwhile, Hades and his domain, the Underworld, are embroiled in a Civil War. The Dragon Demon, Bune, was left in command when Sorath escaped and is busy killing innocent young women on the surface. The Demon Bune has teamed up with Nazi Germany’s mastermind of tactics, Rommel.
Once Sorath returns, they’ll launch their war against Hades, the Underworld, and the surface.
Only one thing is standing in their The Furies.
Angels of Vengeance is a fantasy adventure full of violence, morbid humor, an unsuspecting detective, and three sister goddesses out for revenge.

If you think you’ve seen strong female characters you haven’t seen anything until you’ve read this! The Furies avenge wrongful deaths and do so in very painful ways, so I would be careful to stay on the path of the straight and narrow if I were you. This book places some classic Greek mythology in a modern day setting, which works well.

The book moves along at a quick pace. You will finish it fast. And it’s funny— if you like morbid humor, as there is quite a bit of violence in it.

Still, what stuck with me the most about this book is how badass the lady spirits are!

Action mystery mythology romance

This book has it all. Yes it's long but well worth reading. Strong female characters. Strong plot. Hard to have to wait for book two. This would make an awesome movie.

Ancient mythologies (especially Greek) come to the modern world in this fantastical tale about the three Furies and humans they encounter.

It took me a while to get into the book. The beginning introduces you to each of the Furies through their separate killing for vengeance. They don't go after just anyone. The petitioner had to have been killed by a family member.

You are introduced to Detective Dan when is witnesses one such attempt at vengeance by the Fury, Megaera. Unlike other mortals, he could SEE her when no one else can.

Through some twists and turns, you delve deeper into mythology learning about the different gods and goddesses as well as demons who people continually fear and worship, sometimes under different names.

Even though it took me a while to get into the story, once hooked I was all in. And now I'm going to be waiting for the second book.

A good read for those who like mythology and don't mind the gore. Because there is gore throughout.

I thought this was a good read but it was a bit slow to get going. I'm glad I stuck with it though and look forward to the next one

Thompson gives us a fast-paced and action-packed adventure melding Greek mythology into the modern world. The characters are real and easy to relate to and care about. Humor runs throughout the story, enhancing the action and making the characters even more likable. The only issue I have with this book is the failure of the proofreader - frequent word mistakes, spelling, inconsistency in the conjugation of tenses (as an English teacher) is something I find very distracting. It is a measure of how interesting the plot and characters are that I read through the errors and straight on to Book 2! If I knew how I would volunteer to proofread Thompson's novels and correct the errors, as his story deserves to be read without the distractions. The story is a fun and fantastic journey.
