This novella, One Breath, was previously published as Breath of Magic in the "No Rest for the Witches" anthology. It has never been available in a separate volume until now.
Enjoy this novella while you spend a little more time in the world of witches, warriors, warlocks, and the Fae.
San Francisco's D'Anu gray magic witches are in an epic battle. But even if Sydney can use her gray magic and ancient Druid powers to save the world, can she risk losing her heart to handsome D'Danann warrior Conlan?
Cheyenne McCray fell in love with reading and writing early, deciding in kindergarten that one day she would become an author. Today, she is an award-winning New York Times and USA Today bestselling fiction author who’s sold millions of books worldwide. Having published more than 100 novels and novellas in contemporary and paranormal romance, urban fantasy and romantic suspense, she is now also writing cozy mysteries as Deb Ries.
Chey grew up on a ranch in southeastern Arizona and delights in creating stories of suspense, love, and redemption with characters and worlds her readers can get lost in. Chey and her equally geeky husband live with their two dogs, six ducks (the neighborhood celebrities), and a small flock of chickens in a small Arizona town where she enjoys gardening, crazy quilting and, of course, writing.
Sydney, a D'Anu gray magic witch, is part of a battle to keep Balor and his demon wife from destroying earth. Balor lost his one eye when he was sent to the Underworld, but has escaped and is searching for his eye which Darkwolf has. The D'Anu have joined forces with the D'Danann warriors to keep that from happening. Conlan, one of the D'Danann warriors is partnering with Sydney. He is muscle, she is magic. The book/novella is more about mating, however, than fighting the battle. HEA for the couple but the war continues.
The story in One Breath continues after the group has returned from Underworld after being outed to the world from the epic battle at the stadium on live TV. With their shop and home under scrutiny, they have all gone into hiding, per se. The witches and warriors have separated into smaller groups to make them more inconspicuous as they search for Darkwolf and Junga and the eye necklace before Balor finds it. The necklace is the key to keeping Balor from coming into his full power and decimating everything…destroying the world as they know it.
This is Sydney and Conlan’s story and since it is a novella versus a full-length book, it does not delve deeply into their pasts or personal issues as do the previous stories but highlights the basics and gives a shorter version of their bonding. But, even though it is a shorter read it does not feel rushed or incomplete. Only a few characters from previous books are mentioned, a comment here and there, a couple of shorter battles, a loss, a few funny situations involving Sydney and Conlan and their romance; but plenty to hold your interest and keep you entertained. This novella is a quick, fun read about a witch and warrior finding love in the midst of chaos and a nice addition to the Magic series. * I received a copy of this book from the author with no obligation to review.
