Pentacle #2

Arcane Transmogrification

Rate this book
Book Two of the Pentacle Series

Danny died a less than heroic death on Earth, was reincarnated in a new world, gained access to a mental sanctuary that ranks his skills, learned he can do magic, discovered that he can't fly, tricked rich old ladies into buying handbags, crafted himself a crude anti-magic girdle, went to magic school, grew a couple of apple trees, was drafted into a secret paramilitary organization, tamed a pet most people would rather never meet, regrew an elf's ears, gained a split concentration ability in the form of his former Earth self, avoided being kidnapped, was almost eaten by a basalisk, watched an airborn wizard play wack-a-troll, saved his friends from a massive ritualistic magic spell, and did a great impression of a human tree ornament.

Then Danny passed out from blood loss and pain.

Now it is all up to Cranny, the embodiment of Danny's split concentration, to get Danny fixed up before the slowly approaching zombie goblin has a nice woodland picnic.

Not really worth it.

I was slightly disappointed by the first tome and the second confirms my opinion on this series. It's a very basic harem/OP fantasy with some litrpg elements and not too much continuity. Not worth pursuing.

This book follows the main character Cranny and his sidekick Danny. Cranny has been turned into this witty, funny, and super useful sidekick. Part of he problem is that Cranny is neither witty or funny. Perhaps im the wrong audience for the humor and if thats so than just ignore this little complaint. I say little because the humor is not really the issue. Crappy humor is easy to just ignore and move on. The real problem is how Danny relies on Cranny to do nearly everything. So much so that Cranny now feels he has carte blanche to do whatever he wants. Im not talking about silly pranks that are supposed to be funny even if they do get tiresome. Im talking about taking over Danny's body and doing what he feels is best despite the wishes of Danny. What does Danny do? He complains a little bit but ultimately just goes along with Cranny because Danny cant do anything without him anymore. There are loads of other issues with this book that im not going to get into because honestly its just not worth my time.

Not as good as the first book. The first book had both the learning about the world/magic system and the being born again on another world and learning how to interact with people and not give much away. This one not so much. This one was all about expanding the power set. I am all for that kind of thing usually. I love learning about how that is done. That is one of my problems though. While the power of the MC was grown, the knowledge of how it happened wasn't there. That because of my least favorite semi-character in the book, Cranny. I bought the next audiobook in the series but I am not as excited about it anymore after reading this one.

If you liked the first book, you'll love this one. It takes a lot of the loose ends and ties them up only to create more questions. The story progresses at a normal pace and the relationships deepen among the characters. If you don't like harem's I suggest you skip this book. Looking forward to the 3rd book.

Book two

Well the blurb for this book was misleading. I did enjoy the story though.
I found just a couple of mistakes.
I'm not sure where the author is planning to take this series, but I'm interested enough to look for book three.
I can recommend this book.

This is a much more polished story than the first one.

Although the Gamelit elements are in an even short supply. Truly enjoyable though.

The book went in a different direction than I expected...very different. I was kind of hoping at the end of the last book, that the main character would die and and will go through a new reincarnation again, which would be pretty awesome :D However, the story continued from where it left off and it was still fun.

I didn't quite appreciate the "funny" sabotage from his split mind, as it doesn't quite make sense to me (it's still the same person after all), and it's weird that he doesn't have access to the other part of his mind even when he concentrates on it. Lastly, the power he's starting to exhibit is pretty much god-like, or soon will be. I'm not saying this last thins a bad thing, but it could go either way depending on the writing :)

That said, I am looking forward to the next book in the series and I'll definitely read it :)

Good read

Another solid story, I punished the rating on book one due to errors and book 2 was still occasionally laced with typos. The story itself I thoroughly enjoyed though. I like how you haven’t glaringly contradicted or modified your magic system like so many other fantasy authors. It’s nice that your problems/enemies are strong, yet not the generic “no mortal can defeat without unbelievably lucky circumstances” every single book like a lot of series have. I couldn’t put it down.

I enjoyed book one until the end when things got weird. This continued into book two with his alternate self Cranny (I didn't like the concept of this or the way it played out), terrible humor, overpowered yet underutilized MC and then came the harem/marriage to multiple women. I'm done with the series. Seems like other readers either loved this or hated it. I'm afraid that I am a hater. Don't waste your time on this please.

Awesome book

Great pace and you don’t have to wade through loads of filler like a lot of books. I hope to be able to read the next book if there is ever one.

The name the author finds for these books are still something else.

I can't believe I over looked this series for so long. I hope it's as fun as the first.

I don't understand what is happening. Since the start of the book, it's like the protagonist forgot he can do magic without taking the physical form of that particular branch of magic. Everything he is doing, he has to transform. Are we suppose to forget everything that happened in book one with his magical training?

Something was off with this book. It wasn't as fun as book one.

I will still pick up the sequel (as I already have it). I hope it doesn't degrade further like this book.

Amazing book

This series is probably one of the best three xianxia styled stories I have read. This book, in particular, was awesome. Though the MC is ridiculously over powered, he is not perfect, and the ineptitude is rather humorous at times. This series is great and this book was awesome (I know I am repeating myself). Look forward to the next book.

The second book in the series is a powerful continuance of the first book.

The fast moving plot line is fun and exciting continuance of the first book. Things move quickly and are so complex the reader will want to go back and reread the books more slowly the second time around.

Great imagination and writing.

Magic, elves and destruction

Pretty straightforward book, Danny does something desperate and irreversibly changes himself. Luckily, he survives and is exponentially better off for it. Thus entails a journey of kicking ass and being horribly awkward while doing it. Pretty decent book/10

I just can't see myself reading the next book.

I found the alter ego of the main character cringeworthy an shuddered every time something eexpected happened as the author used the alter ego as some sort of device to change directions. Loved the fist book, mostly but this just didn't work for me.

Did Not Finish
March 14, 2022
I really enjoyed the first book and was so excited to continue Danny’s story. Unfortunately this one was a real let down. Turns out book one was a stealth harem prologue, and somehow I hadn’t noticed. In this one, our hero becomes increasingly OP, and manages to pick up yet another future wife. The writing is on the wall, and I give up. What an absolute shame. Did not finish.

An original reencarnación

It has been a very nice story to read, will be waiting for the third book of this saga.

Still would like to find more dedication from the editors since this second book also have too many errors.

Fun

Okay there are typos and editing problems, but the story is so much fun and the world so engrossing that I honestly either didn’t really notice or care about the errors. I look forward to the next in the series.

Action and Drama

Picks up where the book 1 cliffhanger ended, and provides an excellent story, with fascinating characters and events. Definitely a fun read. Recommended!

I'm... unsure, whether I'll continue the book. The first installment was interesting, if a bit low on action, but I had high hopes for the second one. MC seemed to actually think about his problems, reacted to things in a more mature way, than any other isekai mc I've seen, and the author explored the social implications of the male/female ratio creatively in my opinion.

Then came the second book. Suddenly our hero turned into a spineless idiot, who can't make a decision without his mind construct and thinks trying out unknown, difficult fire magic in a wooded area is a great idea. I feel like the author just had enough of this series, and chose to make mc as pathetic, as he reasonably could. Reads like the start of some weird korean ntr webcomic.

Fun read!

This was a fun read, the characters were a tad bit unbelievable... However it all turned out to be entertaining. While interesting this series should work on being more solid to continue holding my and perhaps other readers attention as more books are added. Read this!
