She met Michael Ward-Thomas on a double date in The Dorchester and both were attracted to each other.] He worked for the Consolidated African Selection Trust. They switched partners and were married a few months later.
They bought Horham Hall in 1968 but found that it was costly and sold it in 1976 and moved to Naas, County Kildare where she had relatives. Increased income from her writing allowed her to buy Horham Hall back in 1982.
In 1994 she became High Sheriff of Essex, the firswt woman in over 700 years to hold this office.
In 1995 her daughter Kitty died of a heroin overdose, leading Evelyn to not write for another seven years.
In 2004 her husband died of a stroke.
She was survived by her children Susan, Anthony, Ewan, Christian and Luke as well as 16 grandchildren.
NB:Some sources give Ms Anthonys year of birth as 1926.

Another winner for me! I’m so glad I stumbled on to this great series but sad that I’m done with it. True page turners, every single installment yet each book is a stand alone. Absolutely loved them.

How sad! I have now read all four of the Davina Graham suspense thrillers, and have nowhere else to go. And as a feminist, or would-be feminist, I thought her decision to retire from being the head of the Secret Service was disappointing. There is really a hint that she's going to settle down with a good man and tend to cooking and roses like her mother.
Nevertheless, I greatly enjoyed them, and I shall pretend that at some point she is lured back to do what she does best and that her hubby will accept that and be happy she is making a difference in the world.

I have read the four novels in this sequence over four days. I rarely get drawn so completely into such a project, but I have enjoyed it.
This final novel was less interesting to me. It is as carefully constructed as the first three, but it has a higher level of indifference or ambivalence than the first three. There were also some despicable characters that I didn’t enjoy.

Davina has risen to the top of MI-6, mostly by being very competent, ignoring the ambitions of her fellow officers, and for the most part, not seeking the job. Her sister and father have shown their loyalties to be largely selfish, and she faces some hard truths about the choices she has made. This is a slightly dated series, but I enjoyed it.

The entire series of 4 books – beginning with The Defector, followed by The Avenue of the Dead, Albatross, and finally The Company of Saints – is a first rate read!!! I've read several most of Anthony's books and liked all of them.

A nicely done finish for the series. This is a good story and I am happy with a tidy ending. Presumably the characters lived happily ever afterwards.

The last of the 4 and another great entry to a terrific spy series. Considering when this was written, it has held up very well. Many of the events could be happening today. I highly recommend this series.
