Exhibit #10000 for a good premise with terrible execution!

The idea for this manga is that a woods creature, that by the looks of it is a kitsune (fox woman), stumbles on a blind girl out doing work in her garden by the forest, and befriends her thanks to the girl's lack of sight making it possible that she won't be spooked by the fox girl's appearance. They talk and fall in love, and live happily ever after in the cottage by the woods.

Adorable, isn't it? If only it weren't so messy and poorly handled.

Thing is, the kitsune lies to the blind girl that she's a "traveller," and the blind girl (why is she called Lily Blind? Couldn't she have a normal surname that's less stereotypical?) is so naïve that she doesn't even question it, doesn't ask further, doesn't mistrust this complete stranger, nothing. All she asks is to be told stories of the fox girl's travels. The kitsune, far from clarifying things, lies and lies and keeps lying, all the while we're treated to her angst and wangst in mind-numbing amounts. Until one day she decides she'll confess her love to the blind girl, but oh, surprise, the blind girl wants her to withhold the confession till she recovers her sight (???).

And can you guess what caused this girl's blindness? Ready? The girl's mother inhaled smoke from a fire in town caused by the kitsune! That's right. Inhaling smoke from wildfires causes blindness. How convenient.

The girl comes back only to tell the kitsune that she won't recover her sight after all as it's incurable (how convenient!). The guilt-ridden kitsune then confesses she's "a monster" (all while she's drawn like a pretty girl with fox ears) and that she's been lying to the blind girl. Oh, surprise, the blind girl tells her not to worry, she's always known she was lying, and played along only because she senses the kitsune was lonely. She forgives everything with nary a word of reproach. No making amends. No consequences. They both go live together happily ever after. The End.

Maybe it's cute for some out there, but for me it was incredibly manipulative and a facile excuse for a romance with no buildup and no chemistry, built on lies and excused with a mere "I was lonely." If it were a man, you'd say the kitsune had more red flags than a China parade, but since this is Yaoi involving two girls having a supposedly cutesy romance, I'm sure it's excused.

Not by me. It was dreadful and a waste of my time.

That was very cute and exciting!
I'm completely in love with this story!
A lonely monster girl meets a human in the woods. She fears being attacked, but discovers that the human girl is blind.
In her solitude she lowers her guard and befriends her. A friendship based on lies, for she does not tell what she really is and say stories of books she had read to the girl who thinks she is a traveler.
The human girl, Lily, gives the monster girl a name, Heath. In time Heath comes to fall in love with Lily and after learning that Lily's blindness may have been because of something she had done in the past she decides to tell the truth about her identity and her feelings.
The story is pretty cute and seeing these two girls so unique and solitary opening to each other is charming.
Also, the quality in the kisses between these two ... !!

lonely monster girl meets lonely blind girl and they fall in love!<3

The art is so lovely, the story focuses on daily life and the relationship between two girls, it's very calm and peaceful and cute. They start on a bit of a lie but things resolve quicky and it's pure goodness later.

I highly recommend!
I think it's still ongoing so I'm going to mark here that I've read chs 1-20 so far.

I'm conflicted on this one. I want to like it because there's not much good yuri making its way to the US, but... this just wasn't good on any level. The romance was instalove and fairly shallow. The characters didn't have much personality. There's a huge obstacle to their relationship that's sort of handwaved away and forgiven without anyone really discussing the ramifications of it.

Also the human girl is blind and her name is "Lily Blind." Wtf is that?

She isn't magically healed in the end, and she does discuss the realities of being blind (such as if she struggles with something, people treat her like a fragile child, but if she is capable of doing it on her own, they start saying she's "not really disabled" or it might not be that bad). So that's... something.

Idk! This story had a lot of potential and it just didn't live up to it.

This was SO wholesome - my body has simply melted!

Beauty and the Beat Girl is a one-shot manga depicting the romantic relationship between a blind human girl (Lily) and a non-human female monster (Heath). This was a really quick and heart-warming read discussing society's views of someone who is non-human. Heath is an isolated and withdrawn character who keeps herself confined to the woods for fear of ridicule or worse by the humans who live outside whilst Lily is a girl driven by her love of life and wanting to connect with that 'special someone'.

If you want an easy and very sweet female/female romance manga, please give Beauty and the Beast Girl a try. Plus the artwork was delightful! <3

This is absolutely adorable and heartwarming, and if it's not on your yuri radar yet, it should be.

Was it the best manga ever? No. Was it a cool and cute concept? Yeah. Blind girl and mythological creature falls in love? Awesome. It was really cute and short. I think the concept would’ve been great if it was more then one volume.

So flipping cute!!

A lonely, nameless monster happens to meet a sweet blind girl, Lily, while on a walk through her forest. After overcoming the fear of being around humans and slowly coming to terms with her past, Lily opened her life to more than just the forest around her and even gave her a name: Heath.

I loved this story and wish that there were more volumes! Which, by the end there is a couple unresolved questions that doesn't impact the ending of the story much but does leave room for more volumes. It'd be great to learn more as the girl's relationship continues too. Heath and Lily are so sweet and good for each other.

The scenery is fleshed out well and fits perfectly for the vibe of the story, mellow and sweet. The art is well-defined, yet soft and airy. I loved Heath's character design, the combination of scales, furry ears, and a horn, it's a nice mismatch to make her physically "unattractive" as a beast, yet so cute, and beautiful on the inside.

While the pacing went a little fast at times, overall, everything was fantastic. Funny, sweet and a lot dramatic, a delicious triple threat.

Beautiful. The thought of a blind girl falling in love is just sweet, then for the person to be a monster. I do love how Heath is remorseful, not just a cold blooded monster. It’s a beautiful story, I highly suggest

I don't know if I like the pun they provided in the blurb, but OK...

I saw this manga started on pixiv and was supposed to be continuing there (have to check out if it did). The creator was lucky to get this printed, and there are hints of more to come, but it also works as a standalone.

The art is cute and the monster with mismatched animal characteristics actually looked cute, instead of scary. That being said, I am conflicted because the love was insta and shallow. There were some great issues that come into conflict with their relationship, which were simply brushed aside, instead of its ramifications being discussed or given the proper consideration.

When the blind character introduced herself as Lily Blind I almost fell off my chair in a "wtfrog moment". I did like when she talked about some of her experiences as someone disabled, and how sighted people and their bs get in the way. If she can't accomplish enough, she's a burden, if she can, they question her disability or the truthfulness of her having actually made it on her own.

As someone who follows blind creators, I know these actions & liners to be true.

This was recommended to me by a colleague. The art is gorgeous and definitely the highlight of the book. The plot is just so-so. Kind of a standard beauty and the beast story, but with two women instead of one man and one woman.

Heath is a monster that lives in seclusion in the woods. She is lonely, but also fearful of humans since her last interaction with them left a village on fire. Lily is human girl that runs into Heath in the woods. She was blinded by a childhood accident and is seeking medical help for her eyes. They are drawn together by Lily's acceptance and Heath's faith until Lily's family comes looking for her.

Good manga. I was expecting a version of the Disney movie "Beauty and the Beast" but anime this is not that. When taken not expecting the Beauty and the Beast movie it is a good manga from Pixv. Second manga I have read from there "Monster Musume" being the first series I read from there this is a more monster romance focused one than that. It is a good book better than most from Pixv but still not above the avg manga out there right now.

Wholesome Yuri Goodness

This was a true blue sweet comic! It's something I've always wanted in a Yuri manga. It's a positive LGBTQ book. Where people from two different worlds fall in love. The best part is there is no stereotypical death of any kind! It's a huge trope in gay media but it doesn't exist in this wholesome cure lovely comic.

This is a simple but quite cute BATB variation. I wish I could rate it higher but it’s a bit weak in the story department. Conflicts are solved a little too neatly and a lot of additional characters are abruptly introduced at the end of the story to wrap things up. I wasn’t surprised to learn this was originally posted on Pixiv independently. Still, I enjoyed its overall cute aesthetic, floral-based first names, and the character designs.

Adorable! I wouldn't call this a very deep story but the art is cute and it's purely romantic without anything too distracting or meant for a primarily fetishistic audience. I would look forward to more given the chance!

This was soooo cute! But I wish it was like...five times as long. The telling gets very plump and hurried in a hacky way. I wish the story was supermuch longer so I could enjoy it more properly. Still very cute though.

ackkkkk this had so much potential!! but unfortunately, it was reallyyy rushed and reallyyy underdeveloped:(

it hurts because this is genuinely such a cute idea/premise but it was executed very poorly:(

also, I lowkey hate how the cover makes it look like her pants are falling off...

This story was very cute, but very simple. All of the characters are named for flowers that symbolize their traits or stories. The main couple fall for each other quickly without much of a reason, but they’re still adorable together. I felt the pacing was a little rushed and most of the plot points were described quite vaguely without detail. However, this was still an enjoyable read. This is a perfectly pleasant manga for anyone looking for light and fluffy yuri content.

3/23/19 reread thoughts

It’s interesting reading my original thoughts as I was reorganizing my bookshelves when I went to put this book on the shelf I got distracted and immediately sat down on the floor and reread it in one sitting! Still very enjoyable as it’s a sweetly touching story about two outsiders finding happiness with each other.😍

2/27/19 thoughts

This book had popped up on my Amazon “recommendations”prior to it even being released. I preordered it just based on the title and thought the cover image was cute.

Well... I’m so glad I chose to get this book as it was surprisingly much better than I thought it would be! It’s fairly short so I’ve must of read it at least 5 times before writing up my thoughts here.

Not sure if the creator was inspired by this, but the initial interaction between the two main characters reminded me of the scene from Bride of Frankenstein where the Monster is befriended by a blind man.

What plays on from there is just a very sweet story that cleverly drops in some cliched fairly tale/fantasy tropes that I ended up enjoying very much. I also pick up some old Disney animation influence with how the story is structured. This short little manga really played with my emotional strings. Totally teared up from the opening narration...and a few more times during reading. These characters really had my empathy. I would LOVE to see an anime or even live action adaptation.

I wonder if this will end up just being a one off or the creator will actually live up to their “hope” they mentioned in the afterward.

Anyway...definitely loved this and will be a book I see myself consistently pulling off the shelf or keeping on my bedside shelf to revisit frequently!

Aww, this love story between a monster girl and a blind girl was super cute! But even though there's plenty of cuteness and fluffy scenes, there are some serious bits too which were really good too.

Heath, the monster girl, is lonely and was bullied years earlier which caused her do something terrible. Lily is a sweet blind human girl. They befriend and then fall in love.
I liked how both characters found joy in life after meeting each other and how they talked about their situation and learned something about themselves and the other one. But the most I liked how the characters learned that even after mistakes or hardships in life, you deserve happiness too.
There was also a really poignant scene where Lily talked about being disabled and pity.

And it was so nice that people in Lily's household saw that Lily was happy and respected her choices even though they knew what had happened in the past!

It's full of fluff though and Heath and Lily are so darn cute throughout. The art style is cute too, the characters look soft, even Heath. I highly recommend reading this!
