Past pains can sometimes affect one's future ... until that right person brings light where there was only darkness.
"Perfect" was a dark but fast-paced story with a flawed but successful antihero, Dr. Asa Stanfield and 'a trying to be invisible' heroine and custodian worker, Jamie Harrison who both had dark pasts which still affected their futures. Asa saw a kindred spirit in Jamie immediately but when he sees Jamie conversing with a another doctor in their workplace, he takes action by making Jamie a part of his dark and secretive world. There are many ups and downs in this story which lead to the twists and turns of a 'perfect' relationship! Loved this story!
Boy, it's hard to write no spoiler reviews so even with tags, I didn't add them because they too can give away the essence of Eve Vaughn's great new read!
BRAVO Eve Vaughn! This was very different from your usual books but I loved it. What a story! I was hooked! The H was fabulous and so was the h. Ladies, the H was an utter psycho for the h. I'm talking completely OTT possessive and obsessive. The only things that didn't work for me was the daddy kink and graphic descriptions of child abuse. Overall, I enjoyed the HELL out of this book and can't wait to read more from the wonderful Eve Vaughn.
A good read but i felt like it was very bounded and limited to a particular point.. What i really mean is that it was too short to love and too short to hate..
Ok, I loved this psychological, manipulative, suspenseful, dark and sexy thriller! The only reason why I didn’t read it in one sitting was because I had to get up for work the next morning.
This is my first book by this author and it will not be my last.
This story is about Asa and Jamie (James, her birth name is James). Both have a horrid childhood but they grow up to be survivors...in their own way. Jamie was closed off from the rest of the world and Asa, well, Asa definitely has his DARK secrets.
The only thing I didn’t like about this anti hero is that he isolated Jamie. Got her to quit her job and move out of her apartment. She had no choice but to be dependent on him. Asa needed control and he used manipulation to get that control. Also, what took Asa so long to shut down Dr. Maria? 🤷🏾♀️
The sex was such a turn on for me. I loved Asa’s dominance in the bedroom.
I will be reading this book again and I hope Ms. Vaughn has more books like this one.
This was a very dark read...but I thoroughly enjoyed it. I can't believe I'm saying that...but from the time I began reading I couldn't put it down. Asa and Jamie were meant to be together. Their upbringing was not good but in the end they were perfect together. I received this as an ARC and I'm so glad I did. You will be tense and on edge...but this is a must read.
This was such a dark read. Asa was a sick, depraved psychopath. Jamie fell for the monster and fed the monster within Asa. I didn't know Eve had such dark stories. I'm down for the alpha, dark, aggressive sexy man. I've read books far worse then this! So dark I couldn't make it through the series. This was tamed compared to those reads. Good job Eve
Not only was this book extremely far fetched the author also seems to glorify toxic and unhealthy behavior in relationships. Read at your own risk but try to get it for free I’m so annoyed I paid 4.99 for this garbage!
I like Eve Vaughn… she writes well, and all are hero her dark, so I am used to her style. However, I am not a fan of Perfect. The story did not do anything for me … the flow was wrong, and it felt like many scenes were just chopped and pasted together. There was no depth in character. We get no build up to the relationship, we have a complete stranger proposition a woman, and she agrees. Also, Jamie as a character was beyond boring; I would have liked her to be more vocal, I felt like I did not hear “her” or see her through the entire story. Again anti-hero can make charismatic character… but Asa was just plain forgettable; I did not connect with him at all, I felt like his character was just not engaging enough for a psychopath … nothing to remember. The storyline felt disjointed, all in all, 4/10. Looking forward to Eve Vaughn next book.
I often buy books from this author with one-click. I didn’t know what I was getting into. Jamie and Aza, are two of a kind. I kept waiting for the redeeming factors for both, but I found nothing. At nearing the end I was compelled to finish.
I rate this book a three, because the writing wasn’t bad and the story was unique. It was also sick to me. The idea of Aza demanding she call him daddy and her overlooking what he was doing was too much for me. He called her other words as well. It wasn’t attractive any with his and her dark past.
And no. I’m a reader that doesn’t likes books on the dark side. My occupation isn’t for the faint of heart, and is right in line with this topic. So what he did wasn’t too alarming, it was Jamie’s acceptance of it and how he spoke to her at times. He wasn’t likable. She was a doormat eat times and complicit. The one scene with the dress - in the car. His words to her were too much. Do women accept this from a mate? My husband is no angel, but his words are considerate even when he is being raunchy. I’m his queen, so no he doesn’t say these things to me even when in the heat of the moment.
Anyway, I’ve yet to be at a loss for words with a review, and I am with this book. I didn’t like one main character in the book.
Before buying this book, I read a review that said that this book causes you to question your morals. I don't think I have read a more perfect statement. I question my morals every step of the way. Asa and Jamie are two people living with abusive pasts. She handled it by becoming repressed and he handled it by killing child abusers. The entire time I questioned my sanity. Asa is everything you are told to stay away from. He's possessive, demanding, and manipulative and yet you are completely drawn to him. You get off on the sex and hate when Jamie briefly leaves him. You want to understand him even though, you know what he is doing is wrong. It made me wonder what would happen to me if I encountered such an individual. Am I truly as strong as I think I am? Just be prepared. This is a book you can't put down and will leave you questioning your morals.
I am a fan of this author but this book left me wanting. We were warned that it was a dark romance and I expected that but the story just did not flow for me.
Dr. Asa was mentally and physically abused by his wealthy dad. As a result he became a monster, bent on destroying abusers. Jamie was also abused as a child and became withdrawn and timid. Asa recognized the broken in her and was immediately drawn to her.
The storyline then took an awkward turn, the chase, the domination and eventual killing just didn't work for me. I must say I'm a fan of this author but this book didn't work for me.
What do you do when faced with a choice of a savior and a killer....devilishly handsome sexy savior who is every woman's dream or a devilishly handsome sexy killer who is every woman's nightmare...if you are a girl named James...you choose both...which is one in the same....I was morally repulsed and turned on at the same time...Asa is a frighteningly sexually virile man and Jamie is a scared traumatized abused young woman afraid of her own shadow...and who can blame her....she suffered terrible child abuse and internalize her feelings of despair....Asa does the opposite..he slays monsters....he is a vigilante without remorse...and he has set his eyes on Jamie...
Dr Asa Stansfield is darkness personified wrapped in a handsome sexy package! I love all of this ✍🏼’s 📚& this one is thrilling from beginning to end. Best of all the main MC remained unapologetically villainous , unaliving evil monsters who prey on the weak & helpless. His only light was his sweet lady love Jamie, who similar to him, suffered severely as a child at the hands of parents from the bowels of hell. Asa loves Jaime passionately & obsessively, becoming her dark avenging angel😍Check the TW’s before you read , as this 📕is not for the faint of heart ! Happy Reading🍷
When it comes to dark romance, my absolute fav trope is the mmc who is hiding his dark... activities 🫠 from the fmc and in this case he's a serial killer. Asa doesn't just kill innocent people though, he goes after monsters who hurt kids which is CLEARLY a green flag. He's obsessed with James aka Jamie because he sees she is a child of past abuse like him and makes it his mission to love and protect her. My only issues with this book is the grammatical errors and I wish Jamie fought just a smidgen more against Asa when she found out the truth; fighting the then eventually submitting *chefs kiss
This book grabbed me from page one and didn't let go until the very last page. Asa is a successful doctor with a dark past and an explosive secret life. Jamie is a custodial worker at the same hospital as Asa that tries her best to stay invisible due to her own very dark past. After witnessing a encounter between Jamie and a fellow doctor, Asa decides to make his move. He steamrolls into Jamie's life, determined to make her his, as he sees her as his other half. The book will take you on a whirlwind as Asa sweeps Jamie off her feet and allows her into his secret life.
"Perfect" was a very good read. I really liked the premise. Jamie and Asa found each other because they were both broken by the horrible things their parents put them through. Asa took it a step further by going "Dexter Morgan" on other parents who did monstrous things to their helpless children and avoided the long arm of the law. After all the beatings and torture at the hands of their parents, I did not like the fact that Asa felt the need to "punish" Jamie by spanking her.
This book here did a little something to me! I was turning pages like I was getting paid to. Asa was too much and everything all rolled into one. He was perfect for Jamie and he didn't give her a chance to refute that fact. Hot as heck, and nutty as fruit cake, but absolutely perfect for each other. I loved every page of this book, and if you like a little darkness mixed in with your romance, then you'll love it too.
This book has everything you could want and more. It even has you question yourself about unresolved trauma and how a person repressing these tragedies, will eventually have to come to terms with them as well as address them. Know what is within your control what is not, and above all else survive - even if it is to show those who tried to break you that the only made you resistant to there B.S.
I must start this review by saying I love every book you have written; BUT, this was too much for me. It took me almost two weeks to read because couldn't read more than two chapters a day. I am trying to understand how could you romanticize a psychopathic serial killer. I kept thinking that you would redeem him through her but instead she became his accomplice by giving him "monster" to hunt. And they are going to bring a child in to their dysfunctional world.
I really enjoyed this book with all the craziness going on with Asa and Jamie. Asa was disturbed and knew it but thought he was doing good with the murders he committed and I guess in a way he was but he made himself judge jury and prosecutor. He decided who should die and how and that they were guilty. This was a very intense book made you mad and happy a really great read.

Dark Romance...though i am not much into these..seems though i get back to them again lol..
I’m not sure how much of this I condone, but I actually love the story. The entire plot is just super interesting and so heartbreaking all at the same time but I also love the ending. And for anyone who’s interested in reading be cautious when reading but also look forward to some passion. A lot of love a lot of heartbreaking stories, but more than anything. A happy ending.
This story is phenomenal. Absolutely spellbinding. It's impossible to want to put this book down. Ms Vaughn is sheer perfection as a writer she never misses a beat when it comes to creating and telling stories that pull readers in and make you feel connected to the characters. I recommend this and every story she writes because you will be thoroughly en5ertained.
This book was dark and sad. I love the antihero so I really enjoyed it. I also like to see characters rise above abuse and come out stronger. I hope to see more dark books from this author.
Well what can I say. This author has quite the imagination with the first set of books read about women being treated as commodities. Now someone who administers judgement because the system is broken. You have to read and decide. Really?
Wow! I really enjoyed this book. Asa was so sweet with Jamie and yet very crazy. If your looking for a good love story that is different from the norm, this is the book for you.
3.5 I enjoyed the story and l always love a good anti-hero. But Asa was wavering on a thin line of being mentally manipulating and somewhat abusive. And the whole "daddy" kink just isn't my thing and kinda turned me off.
Very dark but I’ve read murder stories that are dark like this..overall i thought the story was good! The only disturbing part i felt was the dirty talk, I’m all for calling your man “daddy” but i wasn’t feeling “little girl”
