Ed Gemmel returns to Sheffield after a summer spent healing bones and also his heart. Esther does her best to welcome him back, but neither of them have forgotten his drunken confession.
As we all know I am in love with the Giant Days series and have been reading them all from start to finish (they are still coming out which is amazing and please never stop). I just finished issue 40 recently and am planning to read 41 soon and figure out where in this series the little offshoot graphic novels fit soon. I am still loving the series and am very into everything that is happening. So without further ado let's jump into some thoughts!
SPOILERS AHEAD
In this issue, Ed finally returns after his injuries from that fateful night that he spilled his guts to Esther. Upon his return he is sad and his new room is sadder so the gang works to cheer Ed up and welcome him back! We also see Ed and Esther trying to work through some of their problems from that night as well. I really enjoyed this issue and I am glad to see the art getting back to how it always was (for a brief bit there I think they had a different artist and it just was not really for me). I am routing for a certain two characters to get together but something tells me that is not happening right now. I am giving this volume five stars on Goodreads!
Love what they did to Ed's room! OMG it is soooo much improved. Although I don't know if adding a window works like that. And the EVIL EX.... no no no we are not letting her win!
Loved the interaction between Ed Gemell and Esther! And also the fact that they... oops, no spoilers here!
And oh my the cliffhanger!
EDIT: I love all the Giant Days artists, but aside from Allison himself, I have to say Max Sarin is my favourite. Max's fluidity and character expressions are a great match to Allison's scripts. Brilliant!
I really like that Esther and Ed are repairing their friendship, though I have a sinking feeling that Ed being mature will just lure Esther in... also, who cares about the evil ex! Yes, spare Daisy her feelings about that new tattooed man macing on her ex, and just drop that bitch from the storyline.
Agh, that cliffhanger!! I’m all for more Daisy-focus, but I don’t want to know how big of a drama-explosion Ingrid’s new romance will cause....
But a lovely discussion of friendship and airing of issues with Ed and Esther and it’s funny to see just how popular he is. Even if he doesn’t seem to notice all the attention.

"A long time ago I realised it was madness to want to possess every beautiful thing you see. I was looking at an X-Files pinball machine on Ebay but I realised it was a good rule of thumb generally."
I'm super behind on all my February updates so I thought I'd start with an easy one. I haven't picked up a Giant Days issue in about 2 months and forgot why I lost interest until I read my last review; ah, right, tarnished. Perhaps it wasn't so much considering I didn't notice the odd art styles during this read at all. I'm hugely focused on dialogue over art at the moment, probably because I've been reading more novels then graphics novels this year so far. This was, as always, humorous and clever, with sneaky pop culture references to make me all warm and gooey. HP is my newest love at the moment and while I may not understand him walking around stark with some horses, I can see Ed's resemblance to the boy under the stairs. I love watching these guys flourish just as much as I do my favourite few wizards! Can't wait to read the next issue 😍.
