Hamett's stories are original and crafty. Although some better than others, I find it difficult at times to read through the short stories because some are only 7 or 8 pages while others are over 30. I definitely prefer his full-length novels so I have an adequate time to adjust to the characters. Nevertheless, I love his writing style.
