Nominated for a 2018 Eisner Award! With the air still clouded with weirdness in Esther and Ed’s shared house, Esther contemplates what it is that’s still standing between them and making everything feel…icky. The question is, does Esther want to kiss, or just to make up?
This issue truly was a Garf-worthy lasagna. Packed full of action and feelings and re-calls of old characters, it was a joy to read. Esther and Ed are finally getting somewhere. McGraw and Susan are great. Daisy got some exercise. 10/10 would recommend.
I have been so excited and so ready to read some more graphic novels lately, its so unreal how much I have wanted to dive back into these various worlds. As many people know (because I have literally made it no secert) I am obssessed with Giant Days (clearly because I am on issue 42). I think I am getting close to an issue where I could read the spin off about Ed and Australia (I do not know the exact name I only recently saw it on my Hoopla and I immediately favorited it)!
SPOILERS AHEAD
In this issue (I almost wanted to say episode) we see our friends going through some changes. Esther is acknoldging her budding feelings for Ed but it may be too late as he is bonding with the girl from his physio time. Esther decides to leave Ed a gift outside his door and see what happens! In the meantime we have Susan and McGraw who are going through some difficulties as McGraw has made a bit of an odd friend. And in Daisy's world she is looking at working at a Christmas land that is being set up in the city. I love these story lines just as much as I ever have. Daisy looking at working in Christmas land (Yas please)! and Esther finally realizing her feelings for Ed is like OMG I waited way to long for this but yes it is finally here and I hope it happens! As for McGraw and Susan I just love their story and seeing them as a young couple. I am giving this issue five stars on Goodreads. I can not wait to dive into whatever is coming next!
P.S. I loved Esther's hair and outfits in this issue more than usual. I love the way she was being drawn! This maybe my favorite out of Esther's looks yet.
Delightful, as usual. I continue to love Susan and McGraw like no other, and oh poor Esther. Just when she thinks she figures something out, a wrench gets thrown in and everything is messy again. Cannot WAIT for issue 43!!
Great movement on our interpersonal relationships and it managed to hit all the right notes. Daisy finally seems to have reached a peaceful time in her life, or has she? Cliffhanger yet again!
This was much better than issue #41. I usually love seeing growth for Daisy but the last issue felt way too drab and forced. I preferred to see her thriving and getting her Elle Wood on outside, conquering all and finding the best job ever (or so I hope) at the Christmas Village.
I loved reading about Esther and Ed's new subplot but I'm cautious about where it's going. I love the friendship that those two share and I've seen love (and other let downs) destroy one too many in my life as it is. I just wanna pat them through my pages as if they were my own friends.. or perhaps, more practically; grab them and shake them. Stay single, stay single as longgggggg as you can. *insert Billy Madison meme*
First I just want to say that I absolutely love this issue cover. It’s so cute, plus I’m really digging the deep purple background. It really works, and it fits in perfectly with Esther’s aesthetic. So win-win.
Speaking of Esther, she’s more or less the main focus of this issue. Yes, we see Suzie and Daisy, plus there’s Ed and McGraw (actually, there’s quite a bit of Ed). I think we all saw this coming, truth be told. You know that classic story where one person (cough Ed cough) is completely smitten with somebody (Esther) but the second person doesn’t reciprocate until the first move on? Well…yeah. Like I said, we all saw that one coming. That doesn’t mean it’s any less interesting. For one thing, we had no idea how well (or poorly) Esther would take the situation. Now we have an idea. I won’t say what my reaction is to how Esther handled it, because that’ll completely give it away.
I have to say, while I do think Ed and Esther would be cute together, I’m kind of shipping the relationship he has with the new girl. They’re so cute together, and she clearly adores him. They work. I don’t know how long they’ll last, but I’m happy for them for now.
Meanwhile Daisy is having fun with the holiday spirit, mostly by becoming an employee at a Christmas village-like place. And it’s probably not a cult. So we’re good.
Suzie didn’t really have her own plot this issue, but she played a supporting role for Esther’s story, as well as McGraw’s (which will end up connecting both plots). She’s just as sassy as ever though.
I love McGraw and Susan, and Esther and Ed and Nina and Daisy and this book. There were some excellent facial expressions and body language in this issue, as usual. There was a reference to how they're getting close to the end of their University years, which makes me nervous about the series ending someday. Like ever.
Esther has been infected with emotions and FEELS about Ed, Susan and McGraw are smashing the patriarchy in the kitchen *air punch*, and Daisy....well there’s definitely a real Cliff-hanger this time ;)
It's cute that Esther is trying to woo Ed, but at the same time is trying to be his friend and push him towards the Australian. Though I worry how sick everyone is going to get from eating all those really old advent calenders...
I think I've finally come to the realization that there's no use in waiting for the trades. The series is just too irresistible. I'd perish thought of leaving a single issue unread.
