Wanted, an Author is a 5000-word story set in 1807. It returns to the characters of Wanted, a Gentleman, and also introduces a character from KJ Charles' forthcoming novel, Band Sinister.
KJC is just so iconic. When I saw it was a crossover with Band Sinister I was fully expecting Amanda to barge in trying to sell her gothic novel or sth, but NO, it's JOHN RAVEN COMMISSIONING A SMUTTY GAY GOTHIC ROMANCE TO GIVE TO ALL HIS FRIENDS FOR CHRISTMAS. And all this while everyone is hungover as hell bcs the bill abolishing slavery got passed the day before, and everyone got blindingly drunk to celebrate. Honestly you couldn't think of more iconic shit if you tried.
I LOVVED this! A wonderful epilogue following Theo and Martin still happy and in love nearly 2 years later. Swann meets Raven from Band Sinister. Lol. I love KJC and her birds. And apparently there's a reference to Unfit to Print, which is next on my reading list. Free here: https://mailchi.mp/kjcharleswriter/fr...
Too short (13p) to rate but very good! It is an epilogue to Wanted, A Gentleman that I LOVED so I was happy to see Theo and Martin again. It's a "prologue" to Unfit to Print that I am about to read. I thought it would feature characters from that one but it does not. The story was still nice, it was a special day for Martin and Theo who are very cute!
This epilogue is set in 1807, two years after the events of 'Wanted, a gentleman'. The epilogue depicts the day in the life of Theo and Martin, when the Motion to abolish the Atlantic slave trade, was passed in the house of Commons. This also has some references to other books of KJ Charles like 'Band sinister' and 'Unfit to print.
Okay but the enjoyment I got out of reading this AFTER having already read Band Sinister was simply unparalleled. Character cross-overs are simply the BEST. Loved this.
Absolutely delightful little epilogue to Wanted, a Gentleman. More Theo is always good, and here we have him striking a friendship with John Raven, a absolutely delightful character from the upcoming Band Sinister! Their banter is crackling and wonderful, John's purpose in searching out Theo made me incredibly happy, and as with the previous book, there's some serious bits that hit good as well. A marvel
This short free read (available for download on KJ's website) is a sweet glimpse into the future, a happy one, not just for Theo and Martin.
It also offers a reveal on the mysterious author of "Johnathan" the much sought after novel Gilbert Lawless from "Unfit to Print" found in his brother's possession.
A short story that takes place about a year after 'Wanted A Gentlemen', a few years before 'Band Sinister' and many years before 'Unfit To Print' – all tied together by an infamous book that the main character hasn’t written yet – but you know it’s going to be awesome.
The setting is the day after Britain has banned the trans-Atlantic slave trade – and everyone pro-abolition is waking up in London with a hangover. I loved the on-the-ground view point of a major historical event, and how it shows this wasn’t some dry and dusty piece of legislature – it had real meaning to a lot of people, and they deserved to celebrate.
A brief slice of life for the two main characters from 'Wanted A Gentleman', and, for what could have been just a light and frothy work about porn and hangovers, packs quite a punch of optimism and hope.
"Wanted, an Author" is an epilogue to Wanted, a Gentleman that also includes references to the books Unfit to Print and Band Sinister. It centers around a very real event in British history that did change the world for the better.
I wish that the story had revolved more around Martin than Theo, because of that moment in history, despite my enjoyment of the story's plot from an author's standpoint. However, I do appreciate that Charles writes about a Britain that expands far beyond rich white men.
Guess I never added this after the first time I read it (possibly it hadn't been added to GoodReads, yet). I decided to reread it after Band Sinister, since it's a bridge between the two stories. It was a lot of fun the first time, and even better knowing a bit more about John Raven and Lord Corvin. Not recommended as a standalone, but if you've read either Wanted, A Gentleman or Band Sinister, you definitely should, and it's the most fun if you've read both.
This is an epilogue to Wanted, a Gentleman, but I didn’t know that until I had read it. It was actually easy to work out what was going on. Theo is asked to write a gothic novel with a male / male romance. It’s a private commission and a gift, so he should be safe from prosecution. John Raven is the one asking, and the gift is for Lord Corvin. These two feature in Band Sinister, another KJ Charles work.
I’m definitely predisposed to liking anything written by KJ Charles!! A very short update after Wanted, A Gentleman- the morning after the night before and Theo is asked to write the book he has always wanted : two heroes getting their happy ending. This apparently links to two further KJC books I’ve yet to read - Band Sinister and Unfit to Print, I can see a KJC month coming up!!!
I love it when characters from different books come together. And I also just love KJ’s writing - it’s so precise and funny (“He was wearing only his drawers and was dimly aware that it was very cold, although his body was mostly preoccupied with the aftereffects of gin, port, gin, brandy, and gin, and also the urgent need for fluid that wasn’t any of the above.”)
Absolutely wonderful! So fun to read when you’ve also read Band Sinister and Unfit to Print (and of course Wanted, a Gentleman since this is an epilogue kind of thing to that one). Truly recomend if you have read any of those books, or else, go read them and also this one. Wonderful! Super-many-much-happy-mood!
Short but very, very sweet. This is the kind of epilogue-style mini sequel I'm here for. Plus, I'm fangirling all over the place at seeing so many of the individual worlds and stories tie together! Corvin! and that book! Aaaah!
I downloaded this ages ago and then forgot I had it. Very short, quick read, and it actually made me feel that I might like Band Sinister, which I've been hesitating about because the blurb didn't really appeal to me. Glad I found this buried on my kindle, even without magic.
A very short story for members of the author's chat group. Fun if you have read Wanted, a Gentleman and even more fun if you've read both WaG and Band Sinister.
A small snippet, but we do get to see a bit of their life together down the road from the previous book. And some exciting news for each of them, which is nice.
