Arranged marriage?? These two do it just fine by uniting together, going against parents and falling in love. Wasn’t sure how it would end or even where it was going for a bit!
In the third book of The Coltons of Roaring Springs continuity series, escalating peril could occur at any time plus the number of uncertainties also keeps mounting. Though the hero and heroine come from wealthy families, it does not stop them from experiencing many highs and lows once their lives become intertwined. As this couple ponders what type of future they want, they will discover some shocking truths along the way that neither expected. Jennifer Morey builds the mystery of what is really happening in COLTON’S CONVENIENT BRIDE with lots of compelling intrigue.
Although Decker Colton enjoys dating, he does not want to be in a committed relationship as his career is his focus. When his father mentions a neighboring woman that would make him a good wife for business reasons, he actually does consider the suggestion as he remembers her from back in high school. A dinner at his family’s home has Decker and Kendall Hadley getting reacquainted, and surprisingly both discover they like the person each has become. As the couple contemplates a possible wedding, someone seems intent on harming Kendall yet there is no apparent motive.
Once Decker and Kendall come in contact because of an idea proposed by their fathers, their lives drastically change as feelings quickly become involved in what was supposed to be an unemotional relationship. As details about their lives become known during long talks, the couple finds that they are actually drawn to one another. But with so much at stake, each of them is wary in taking the big step of saying “I do”. Watching the couple weigh their options was interesting, as so many factors play such crucial roles in their final decisions, especially family matters. When something dangerous takes place, the emotional impact is even greater.
The ongoing plot from the prior books is cleverly written into this story, where questions are raised and answers are sought. Though COLTON’S CONVENIENT BRIDE is part of a continuity series, it can be read without knowing the previous specifics. Any threats to Kendall are convincing and often unanticipated, and my fear for her kept building with each new incident. Seeing how Decker responded when she was at risk was very telling, and I like when a character feels torn in different directions because it is insightful. An entertaining addition to the series. It wasn’t really an arranged marriage. The parents thought they would make a good couple. Both Decker Colton, and Kendall Hadley agreed to have dinner together to make their parents happy. The dinner went better than the two expected and kept seeing one another. I loved how their relationship grew throughout the book. Kendall’s dad made some pore business decisions that put his daughter Kendall at risk. She was almost kidnapped. I loved how Decker protected her. Other things happened to Kendall too. Decker was determined to find out who was after his finance. The suspense and action with romance weaved throughout the pages made this a intriguing book to read.
I enjoyed this book but there was one thing that really bugged me. Decker's father and Kendall's farther decide that their respective children should get married to boost both their businesses finacially. I found that awful. Decker and Kendall have known each other since High School although they did not move in the same circles. They agree to meet and the attraction is there,so they decide to keep getting to know each other, whilst setting the date for the wedding. Who is the strange man who is following Kendall and what does he want? Will the wedding take place? Will Decker and Kendall fall in love?
I thought I would not like this story, however, I was very surprised. You don’t often read arranged marriage stories in modern days. I really loved Decker Colton. He grew up a lot in this book. He learned to stand up to his overbearing father and become his own man. Kendall Hadley learned that love comes when you least expect it. She also learns that still waters run deep in Decker. She always saw him as a stuck-up rich kid that always kowtowed to his father. They are put together by their fathers. Both families hoping for a match. Kendall’s father needing the marriage because he is in debt to a loan shark and Decker’s father hoping to join two family fortunes.
I was disappointed in this story. It was choppy in places and not easy to read. The characters Decker Colton and Kendall Hadley were believable to a point. It had lots of suspense and action but there was some that wasn't believable. Yes times have changed but not that badly. Things need to seem real from beginning to the end. You can't break up with one person and jump into bed with another the next day. Or maybe you can. It just doesn't seem real to me. Hopefully the next one in this series is better. J
A quick read. The characters didn't interest me. They were both rich snobs. It was a business merger/arranged marriage plot. Throw in a stereotypical Italian casino/mob boss for threats.... not my cup of tea.
