I'm unfamiliar with this writer, but the fact that the Fultons translated this was an encouraging sign.
Unlike most of the Bilingual series, this short story is a modern work of fiction and reads very much like something from Bora Chung or Bae Suah. Not as abstract as Stab, this is more of a mystery than a "love affair." Neverthless, the afterword mentions the term strategic love, which I immediately recognised as a familiar cultural phenomenon.
The mc is an ambitious career woman practicing very strict control on her professional image. One almost feels proud to encounter such a singular character in this cultural context. Yet, being physically involved with a colleague to ensure her own success seems like par for the course to her. Her turncoat tendencies frustrate her paramour, but she still relies on him to help her in a bind: specifically, when a young girl from the office goes missing and it grows increasingly possible the mc is on the hook.
