I NEED IT NOW.

Apparently, I’ve read 1.5 extra volumes without knowing it but forgot everything so I had to reread them to remember. Since this manga is officially finished, I wanted to continue it.

It reminds me of attack on titan in a way that once the mystery of the outside world was revealed, I kind of became less interested. I put it on-hold before because I grew bored, not much progress was being been made. Fortunately, an important event takes place in vol 13 and things pick up again.

A Peter Pan retelling like you've NEVER seen before!! Emma, Norman and Ray are the brightest kids at the Grace Field House orphanage. And under the care of the woman they refer to as “Mom,” all the kids have enjoyed a comfortable life. Good food, clean clothes and the perfect environment to learn—what more could an orphan ask for? One day, though, Emma and Norman uncover the dark truth of the outside world they are forbidden from seeing.

The Premise

Things in the redoubt come to an epic climax in The Promised Neverland vol 12!! We learn that Ray asked Hilda and Don to do some things for him before they left. The fruits of those efforts come into play. I really loved this because we aren't at the house anymore playing cat and mouse with Mother. The kids' enemies are at a much greater distance from them... So problems won't be happening day by day like they used to... no they will happen POW! unexpectedly. And that is just what happens!! They make a tiny bit of progress only to hit a wall of death...

The Buzz

Lucas and Yugo were really essential in The Promised Neverland vol 12. We haven't really needed adults, any adults up to now. The kids wanted freedom. But they find themselves in a position against other humans... these aren't the monsters that will eat their brains if they aren't eradicated. I really loved that Kaiu Shirai went here. The kids reading this need to be empowered, but also know that there are times that adults have to step in.

The Feels

We check in with Phil!! YES!! Only he gets a visitor... and its NOT someone I want close to this smart little guy, especially in The Promised Neverland vol 12! I thought how the monsters dealt with Phil and the other young kids was smart. It will be harder to realize Emma's dream now. Rossi plays a big part in the kids surviving this setback at the redoubt and I loved that a "smaller" character got to take the limelight. He about runs his heart out and yet no different than Emma or Ray steps into the gap...

The Visuals

In The Promised Neverland vol 12 we get to see a little bit of the monster world. And WOW! I loved the temple and Cuvitidala. The plan that the kids come up with in order to find what they need is outstanding!! You will be shocked and pleased and Posuka Demizu really needs an award at how nuanced the drawings of this part were done. There were clues while it was also believable what they got away with. And with a line drawing that is simply stunning! The art continues to give the best support to this sumptuous story.

The Promised Neverland vol 12 expands on the mystery of the seven walls... and Emma gets to meet a dragon?! You won't want to miss the shocking events that hit the kids at their redoubt... and which the adults are essential to realizing Emma's dream!!

I feel like the pacing for this current arc was a little odd, kind of fast for my liking compared to Grace Field Escape and Goldy Pond. I wish the author spent more time world-building and showing us Emma and the kids’ journey to Culvitidala. I don’t mean a bunch of panels of the kids just killing wild demons in a forest but I would’ve like to see more exploration of the demon world. The scenes of the market place and temple were really beautiful. I would’ve also liked to see more interaction and development of Emma, Ray, Don, Gilda, Violet and Nigel’s relationships while they were away. I hope Shirai isn’t facing pressure from editors to ramp up the action in this arc because we’ve seen how Shōnen series can get ruined because of this.

In chapter 100,

The last few chapters made up the rest of the volume for me. There are major death flags for two particular characters :(

Well it seems that the "easy" times are over for the kids. Given all they been through with these monsters--the antagonists that actually do real damage is especially tragic. At the same time we are seeing preparations for what looks like the final third of this story. Though this is technically a "transition" volume, there is enough consequential events here to affect the rest of the story going forward and we still have another volume until the final operation really kicks-off. We also check-in with Phil and the survivors back at the farms and yikes...

Again, strongest transition volume of a comic I have read in awhile.

I can’t believe Arima Kishou died only to be reborn as Andrew the killer. The resemblance is. Uncanny.

Chapter 98. Starting Sound
Awwww thank goodness. They are doing great after a few days. I am happy for their progress. But that d*mn Peter Ratri is becoming a nuisance! He is so determine to eliminate the children!! Also, the telephone work. And someone ia helping them erase their traces from the outside. Awwwww this is amazing. A good improvement!

Chapter 99. Cuvitidala
OMG! Another plan to go on a difficult and dangerous place. Not to mention it is freakingly far! It is just so scary how hard the enemy try to locate their hideout. It is also so sweet that Emma and Ray choose Don and Gilda on this journey. They are really touch to be a part of a difficult task. Awwwww I'm so touched.

Chapter 100. Arrival
That part with Phil is so sad. It is so touching. Phil is really trying his best to act like life is normal even though it is not. But that Andrew. Omg he was from the past chapters which is in contact with that freak Peter Ratri. Omg! I'm scared for Phil. Also Grace Field child are amazing. Don and Gilda are able to memorize bunch of maps?! Like what?!!!! Beyond incredible!!!! Emma, Ray and the others arrive at their destination. I hope this is another clue for them.

Chapter 101. Come
Wow this is a unique story indeed. I love it. Emma, Ray and everybody elae finally found the place they are looking for. Though only Emma saw the vision. Now they have a clue and is planning to go home. Though they need to move fast because 6 months will pass and they need to save Phil and the others. Though I am so worried for Phil!!!

Chapter 102. Found It
They do a lot of effort. Just imagining their effort on walking finding the place Emma saw on a vision. It's amazing! Also Ray's memorization is incredible! How can he even memorize all those books. Also it is almost 2 years and they are still thriving in that shelter. And Emma's group found the place! Omg. What a great improvement!

Chapter 103. One More Move
Just one more move and they can finally make a new promise with the demon. Also everyone help each other that's why they made this far. Awwww it's just great. Emma's group also found very important clues in the temple they went to. But OMG! They are under attack by the enemies!!!!! F*ck!!!!!

Chapter 104. Abandon
Omg the enemies found their settlement! They found out about the fake footage. They now know about the exits. They are smart, too! This is frustrating. So annoyed. I hope they will all be okay.

Chapter 105. Illusion
I want to slaughter that Andrew guy! How could he kill those two children easily! My gosh. No heart at all. Everyone is just trying their best to live. Now they are surrounded. What to do??!!! Gosh helpppppppppp.

Chapter 106. The Way Out
Thank goodness for little Rossi. He saved them with the enemy's radio. Thank goodness they are safeeeeeee. Omgg thank goodness!!!! But Lucas ans Yugo. 🥺

I love this series but the pacing was very odd in this volume. The first few chapters were very confusing with timejumps that didn’t make sense. I feel like I’m missing some important information about how they got to where they are now, and what they’ve been doing all of this time. One of the rare instances where I would’ve wanted a bit of filler, or an extra few chapters. And how did the demons not at the very least smell them as they were walking around, masks or not? Why wouldn’t they just do that all the time?

I’m also a bit nervous, after the greatness of the grace field arc and godly pond arcs, to see where they’re going to take things. I’d like to see some more Norman soon.

After a bit of a slow start this one ends with a lot of "holy shit" moments.

First off...time skip! Seeing everyone older is great. It also shows the pressure of trying to find the secrets and rescuing the kids who Emma and everyone left behind. By the time we learn the secrets we're thrown into the shit as a new hunter is on the kids and they aren't monsters this time. They're humans!

This is a pretty cool change of pace. While first arc was cat and mouse, second survival, this one is turning into action packed fight for your life style that I'm starting to really enjoy. The ending results is some shocking deaths and push forward for a lot of characters. Some stay behind, some move forward, but all I know is I'm worried the deaths have just started.

A 4 out of 5.

4 stars. The pacing of this volume was a bit... fast. I felt like the 1 year skip was so out of nowhere. I wanted to see more of Emma and the other kids learning to survive in the outside. I wanted to see more exploration. More of the kids working together to solve this grand mystery. We only got snippets of it and I’m like, we could have some more soft moments. That may just be me though. I also feel like we skipped out on elongating the whole Khavitidala dragon/Seven Walls thing more. I would’ve also liked to see a bit and more world building.

The friendship of all these characters *chef kiss*
We find out that James’s followers are ready and willing to come pick up the kids.
Don and Gilda getting taken along to search for the Seven Walls. Them crying of joy... I screamed. I want more of them and I’m getting it, a girl is happy.

That chapter of Phil just waiting for Emma and the others. Please reunite this baby with his family, asap. Also his scores are going up... we know what that means. Phil reveals that the kids were all split up into the four different houses. Mama is nowhere to be seen. Phil has new family, a new Mama. And he has to watch kids go knowing their fates, just like Ray did for all those years. It was heartbreaking. He has to keep this facade and act like things are fine.
Poor Phil is so alone, but he has to plan ahead. If Emma never returns, he’ll have to scheme himself a way to get the kids out.

This guy, Andrew, who we saw earlier really just walked up to Phil and said he wants to... talk. Listen bitch, if you touch my son- I will personally choke-slam you into the floor.

Emma is a straight up badass, we been knew, but she killing these demons like a walk in the park. Emma has these “visions of the past” she talks to the dragon rumored to be in Khavitidala.

What’s up with that time skip??? It really fast forwarded to 1 year and 8 months since the kids escaped Grace Field. We have two months left. Guys. Two months... The kids kept doing research and they’re exploring the east and western sides. Emma and the others successfully found the Temple and The Golden Water. Their excitement was so pure and I love my kids. But they figured it out, they found the place Emma had seen in her visions and a way to get in. Things are looking up considering they have two months to get the rest of the kids and yeet the hell out of there...
Or so we thought, because Andrew... he had the audacity to show up AND ambush their escape route? He has some nerve. This guy really out here sniping- HE SNIPPED CRISTY- I’m-

I love Yuugo and Lucas working together, not letting the kids take the burden of killing other humans. I want to see them live. Please. It’d be much appreciated, thank you.

While I felt the time skip was very sudden, I was legitimately taken aback. But I was a little emo because I could see the little details showing Emma and Ray and the others were one year older. Don’s hair is messier, and Gilda looks more serious with her hair half-up half down, Ray’s hair (let’s be honest he rocks that emo look) and Emma’s hair is also longer (I think) which- ugh. Will we see a slightly older Norman? If so, I’m ready to cry.

This volume had some downs and some ups, but I’m still hella engaged to this story.

babe wake up new time skip just dropped!

I wish we hadn't gotten the time skip because the things that happened in between would have several fantastic novels worth. I absolutely adored the scenes in the marketplace and wish we had gotten more there and learned more about the demon society and such. Still a fantastic read!
