Regina Caulfield was unhappy with the choices facing her in her life and with her step-mother’s overbearing attitude. She dreamed of adventures and finding a job in law enforcement unheard of for a lady in 1871.
Luke Tucker was a seasoned Pinkerton agent and a ladies’ man. He loved his job as an agent and the freedom of working cases alone.
When Regina saw an editorial about the Denver offices of the Pinkerton National Detective Agency hiring women, she decided it was fate.
Neither Regina or Luke were ready for the new rule: newly hired female agents must marry an agent for their first case assignment.
Could an independent female agent and a protective male agent find love or will their marriage of convenience end in disaster?
This is the third book in the Pinkerton matchmaker series. The first two books, An Agent for Lucy and An Agent for Wilhelmina are available now.
Regina is the wealthy daughter of a loving father and a wicked step-mother. Rather than stay and marry a man of her step-mother 's choosing, she uses the money left to get by her grandparents and heads to Denver to apply to become a Pinkerton detective. Luke was raised in an orphanage where he learned how to play poker. He then worked as a professional gambler until he got shot. He changed the direction of his life and became a Pinkerton detective. One drawback to working together as Pinkertons is while being trained as agents, young women and their partners has to be married. However, after the case was over the marriage could be annulled. Luke and Regina are sent to solve the case of a kidnapped teacher and the printing of illicit books. When they arrive at their destination they come to realize that the two cases might be related. I give the story a five but the editing a three. There were way too many punctuation errors, some grammatical errors, and in one chapter a character was identified with a different name.
Storyline was good, but major sentence structure problems
I like the Pinkerton story seried. The two other books I have read were well edited and enjoyable. The plots have all been very good. However, this book by this author had many sentence structure problems that made the sentences awkward and hard to understand. I am not very good at writing and almost all minor grammar and sentence structure errors don't bother me. I am an easy going, noncritical reader. I do not read to find mistakes. They have to hit me in the head. But these errors were quite blatant. They were not small errors and interfered with my ability to understand parts of the story. Please find better beta readers and editors. Your success as a writer depends on it. Your story would have rated 4 or 5 stars. This is the first story I have read by you. I will read another and hope this was a one time problem.
I loved reading about Regina, although these two decided to live seperatly, they couldn't keep apart while doing their job and a strong connection formed between them. I love how the books in this series are light and fast reads. You get to enjoy a clean romance topped with action, suspence and detective work.
If you're starting with this series, I highly suggest you read the 0,5 book first. It tells you basically how it all started, so you get a better understanding of the whole deal and you get to meet the first characters in the series. I've read quite a few books in the series and I believe each book can be read as a stand alone don't forget the 0,5 book first) and I also believe they don't need to be read in order (I'm skipping a few and then I go back and forth, depending on what my mood want's to read and who I would like to meet).
Book three in the Pinkerton Matchmaker series, as good as the first two I read. Regina, who wants to find a purpose for her life and Luke are paired together. They need to find a bad guy and bring him in and find that a school teacher who has been kidnapped is also a part of their job now, since their bad guy is the culprit. She has to play the piano and sing in a saloon and Luke is going to gamble where this guy works. Although married, they don't act the married couple but just a couple. Of course romance happens, and love happens as they close in on the bad buy and find the gal.
An Agent for Regina is filled with images of what life was like in the 1800’s especially relating to women and women’s roles. Marianne Spitzer’s characters are well developed and relatable. I loved how she made a match between an independent woman and a protective man. Regina and Luke’s relationship going from just tolerating each other to a marriage of love while solving a case was a joy to watch! I was thrilled that they got their HEA ! An Agent for Regina is a well written book that I highly recommend!
It's 1871 and Regina Caulfield is unhappy with her life and pressures of her stepmother. When she sees an editorial about the Pinkerton National Detective Agency hiring women, she decides that's the job she wants. But the agency has a new rule: newly hired women must marry an agent for their first assigned case. Really? Sounds fascinating! This story is well written and has lots of historical facts from the late 1800's. It's heartwarming, exciting, and suspenseful. I love the stories of Marianne Spitzer. I really enjoyed this one!
I loved this Pinkerton Matchmaker story a lot. The heroine is a really good agent and matched with a really good agent husband. This case was fun, their rolls they had to assume, while on the case, were perfect and fun, and the entire plot was really good. This series has been very satisfactory and I haven't read a book yet that I didn't love everything about. I highly recommend this story, book 3 in this series and the first two as well. I have read others further ahead in the series and all are great stories.
I like both Regina and Reggie, it is no wonder that Luke finds himself falling hard and fast! Luke and Regina must go undercover for this assignment, they get to see the darker, seedier side of life and fall foul of the judgements that come with it? It soon becomes clear that time is running out...can they solve the case and save the women or will they be too late? Another great addition to the series with characters you cannot resist falling for! I read this book on Kindle Unlimited.
Book 3 of The Pinkerton Matchmaker series follows Reggie, a new female agent in training, and her partner Luke, a seasoned Pinkerton agent. Forced into a marriage of convenience to protect Reggie’s reputation, the two are tasked with investigating a missing schoolteacher and an illicit book operation. The mystery adds solid intrigue, but the highlight is the partnership between Reggie and Luke. Reggie’s determination to prove herself and Luke’s steady support create a balanced, engaging dynamic with just the right amount of slow-burn tension.
This was a short well Wittgenstein about a young nieve , very intelligent young lady that desires to be in lawenforcement. A job that is not likely to be held by a female. Like is an experienced young Pinkerton agent. They are partnered after Reggie is accepted as a new agent. You will love this tale of chasing after the bad guys and rescuing the young abduced school teacher. I enjoyed reading this book and look forward to the next in the Pinkerton series.
Oh Regina is so serious about this. She is intelligent and funny and clever. And Luke is tough and opinionated. They are so not happy about getting married. But it worked well to their advantage on the case. They both became interesting undercover agents. And how they fell in love was fun and sweet. I am really liking how each women brings special talents and abilities to their new jobs. I really like the dog in this story. Looking forward to book 4.
Book 3 in the Pinkerton Matchmaker series continues with Regina and Luke. They are sent to Wyoming Territory to find a missing school teacher and check into the source of lewd books hitting the East Coast market. How could those two cases have anything in common?
When Regina leaves school to come home, her stepmother who had been cruel to her wants to marry her off. Regina receives a notice that her grandmother has died and left her a great inheritance. Regina has always enjoyed reading dime store novels and she wants to work as a detective for the Pinkerton Agency. So now she can with her inheritance to back her up.
Regina and Luke Another story in the Pinkerton Matchmaking series that doesn't disappoint. Forced to marry to solve a mystery disappearance and a kidnapping they both wanted a annulment when they solved the case. When all is said and done they find they can't live without each other. Very enjoyable reading.
A truly unique opportunity for the women of this time period. An original idea of what could happen and how a woman would react doing the job of a Pinkerton agent. Yes, 3....... !!
I loved the book. The history is outstanding.. The tale is realistic and the charecters are both interesting and heart warming. I really love this series. The authors are creative, the writing is enchanting.
A delightful story of the old west with a saloon and merchant and women striving to be more than a home maker. Fun descriptions that make you want to visit this western village.
Agent Luke meets his future wife she came looking to be an agent. She sang in a saloon while her husband was a playing cards.I. Hope the women they helped gets a chance to find love must read
Ohhh, I love this series! Reggie and Like worked so well together. Marianne Spitzer kept me reading until way to late, I tried to put it down but picked it up a while later and finished the book. If you haven't started this series, start it now!!!!
Being a female detective was perfect for Regina, to avoid a marriage of convenience. Pairing up with another make detective let to courageous actions for both.
Excellent series! Marianne Spitzer has done a wonderful job continuing the latest book in the series. The story of Regina and Luke is fast paced and exciting. Love the dog, Nellie!
I truly enjoy the series, the premise of the Female PinkertoN Agents and the characters. What I find hard to enjoy is the fact that the author doesn't k ow how to, or refuses, to properly use commas. So, it is only 4 stars for this book
This is a quick sweet read. The plot is interesting. I could wish for more character development but that is not possible with such a short story. Thank you for a lovely read.
I really enjoy the whole series and with different writers make it interesting. I have enjoyed this book and I don’t want to put it down until I finished it. It definitely is a must read
Loving these Pinkerton Matchmaker books. Well written and engaging from the beginning. This one has a very educated woman who also has a lot of good common sense. Will she make a good detective? A must read for good time period information. Highly recommend.
I'm very pleased to read the stories in this series, the authors do a wonderful job of putting together a great cast of characters for each story. I hope that they write many more.
They were hired to find the teacher but to have the job they had to marry. Liked how they both were portrayed as being very smart and how they fell in love.
A great book. I thought it was great to give the saloon girls a background and help them better themselves. Being kind to others is so important. I love the story between Luke and Reggie. I am so glad they got together. I love a happy ending.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading about Reggie and Luke’s adventure! It was the perfect combination of suspense/mystery and romance. I also loved how everything was tied up nicely at the end!
Another good story in the series. I especially like how each lady agent brings special talents to the case. They are shortish stories, but long enough to be satisfying.
