This was very different than expected in a really good way. I thought it would be pretty dark (which I would have been fine with), but it's actually quite lighthearted and even funny at times. All of the characters are gorgeous and easy to like. There's a large age gap which is somewhat uncomfortable in flashbacks but has little relevance in present day. The structure of this society is very open with sexuality and monogamy doesn't really exist, so it's interesting to see how the lead reacts to finding his "one true love." Definitely a strong first volume.
I love an omegaverse manga, so when a friend handed this one to me at work and said they thought I may like it, I bought it immediately. It was perfect!
It had a much more fantasy world element that I haven’t had in my omegaverse lately. Albeit, males can have children (not in this version… so far) so it’s always fantasy-ish, but there are mythical creatures and the “lycan” (as they’re called) can shapeshift.
But the characters are beautiful and Jade looks a little like Geralt from the Witcher. So that’s a huge plus!!!!
Cinco estrellas y mil más. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨ 🚫 SPOILER ❌ Lo amo.
Tropes & themes: MM (BL), supernatural “beastmen,” right person - wrong time, fated mates, unrequited love, partial shifting, pheromones and heats.
Spoiler-free summary: Kouyou is the rarest and strongest of his kind, a Lycan beastman, who has incredibly potent pheromones and is able to seduce anyone he wants. Anyone but his fated mate. Kouyou was an adult when he met Jade, a child sent to live with his group of Slayers. One look at him and Kouyou knew that Jade was his fated mate. Right person, very wrong time. Now that Jade is an adult, he’s clueless to the fact that Kouyou, who is paired with another out of necessity, is his mate. Kouyou feels lost.
Thoughts: I LOVED this one! I really enjoyed all the time the author took to write profiles on all the characters and the care with which they explained the world and the Beastmen. I thought the pheromone/heat situation was very interesting, almost omegaverse-like, but not. The love story is very good, and I am eager to see what happens in volume two, but must wait as it isn’t in English yet 🤣
This was a thoroughly enjoyable story for what we got for volume 1, and I'm actually a bit upset that June Manga only published the first volume in printed format. I'm not sure if they did the remaining ones in digital, but I really would've like to purchase the remaining ones to find out what happens with Kouyou and Jade.
Provided June Manga doesn't end up giving us the rest, I would absolutely love to see another publish pick this up and deliver the remaining volumes, because this was fun and Watanabe-san's artwork is absolutely gorgeous. If you like Lycans and smut-heavy content, I strongly recommend supporting Watanabe-san and picking up the first volume.
As soon as I opened this and read the first page, I knew it was going to be nothing like what I expected. I was not expecting any kind of comical aspect based on the cover. Though it’s not all comedy I felt kind of letdown by the omega verse aspect of it. I also felt kind of thrown into a story that had already begun that was full of extreme amounts of dialogue that needed to be taken in before really being able to understand everything.
I wanted to like this…but it just didn’t sit well with me. The story was good but there was too much detail, I felt like I was reading a biography not a manga. It was too detailed and got pretty overwhelming at points. A+ for the spice however, and I’m hoping for a sequel cause there’s a ton of potential.
This was such an interesting manga. I am very intrigued to know where this next novel goes. Especially because the love interest has zero interest in the main character at this point in time. The artist super interesting and I have so many questions. Such as where are the parents of both characters? When is the secret gonna come out?
I don’t really like stories when one or both of the MCs sleep with other people while they already know they have feelings for the other. They story seems interesting but because of that, I probably won’t continue it
This was really interesting! I don’t see this sort of poly-friendly, “beast men but they’re not omegaverse” set up very much, and the hints at larger world building have me intrigued. I rally hope the English publisher puts out more volumes so I can continue the series.
No means no whether it be in real-life or in another form. Paged through to see if it got better, didn't so DNF for me. Just throw this in the trash where it belongs.
It was just okay. There is a lot of backstory/ filler to understand some stuff. But it’s basically misunderstanding and no communication. The cover art is amazing.
Not sure what I was expecting but it wasn't this! SO FREAKING GOOD!!! The world building! The characters!! The freaking ART!!! BL fans, this one hits different and I am HERE for it!!!!
Rated up from 3.5. The beginning was a little hard to follow and there is a lot of side-info that I skipped because the font was way too small. Even so, the story came together nicely.
Ohhhh this was nothing like what I was expecting it would be (much more funny and loose and complex), but I really enjoyed it!
It was a bit daunting at first -- opening it up and instantly being given a character breakdown and crash courses on the world's history lesson and Lycan biology -- but it did engage me instantly. I wanted to know how this world worked and how everything the author set up was going to fall into place. And then, half way in the volume, when we're introduced to the concepts of Lycan evolution and them being emotionally stunted from their long life spans, man I am now HOOKED. I desperately need to see how this story plays out and how Kouyou and Jade both grapple with their emotions and desires. And overusing suppressants and having impending side effects is a huge favorite trope of mine, so I am SO stoked to see what will come next.
