I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review, but I loved the story, so I bought it so I'll always have it.
This is a very fun and imaginative reenvisioning of the tale of Jack Frost and how he came to herald in the winter. It is a prequel to another book I adored, so I reeeally enjoyed getting this glimpse into the world and lives of the characters that built the next book, Saving Eira.
If you love reimagined fairytales as much as I do, (soooo much!) this book, and the next, are some you will not want to miss!!
On the brink of war, the Fae of Winter must figure a way to stop the Summer Fae and keep her people safe. The solution is what this story is about one thing I will say that the last chapter will break your heart. This beautifully written fantasy was a joy to read and I look forward to the next book. I highly recommend this book it was good. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.

I loved this book. I enjoyed Nieves and Jack's relationship. Nieves is the Winter Queen and she is just trying to make sure her people and her daughter are being taking care of. Unfortunately for her she is thrust into this war that she does not want but it seems like everyone around her wants.
I love the instant connection her and Jack both had with one another. Even though this novella takes place over 2 or 3 days you can tell that they were meant to be. The fact that this book is part of a series makes me very very excited. I am going to devour all of the books associated with this because Laura Greenwood It's simply fantastic.
Frost’s Forfeit by Laura Greenwood is a paranormal romance that I listened to on audio narrated by Keira Stevens.
I just love Laura’s books! They always leave me begging for more. This book is a stand-alone that is set in the Paranormal Council Universe and is a prequel to Saving Eira. I listened to this after Saving Eira and still really enjoyed getting the back story.
Keira did an amazing job on the narration. I absolutely love her voice!
Nieves is the Winter Fae Queen - and has to make a terrible decision to save her daughter and her kingdom from the Summer Queen. She gives up everything to save them - but just maybe, she will find true love along the way? A beautiful story!

Frost’s Forfeit by Laura Greenwood is a paranormal twist on a Jack Frost tale. This story is beautifully written and a nice short prequel to Fated Seasons series.
love is often complicated - especially so when it involves royalty - and more so when magic is involved
Nieves asserts that duty and motherhood are often incompatible - especially for a queen. She misses being with her own infant daughter for at least part of the year, in an effort to keep her daughter safe.
In a matrilineal world, it is the position and power of the females that denotes authority and rules - and kidnapping men is one of the rules in the society that Nieves is a part of.
Sadly for her, and her new beau, her Summer Court counterpart Augusta is on a mission to destroy her and her daughter - which would leave the world dry and the harvests thin, without the refreshing damps of all the changing seasons. Nieves respects the necessity for the balance of the seasons.
Can Nieves and her love Jack find a compromise for an attempt by Augusta to destroy her?
Maybe - if they love, trust and work together.
Another tale of Jack Frost.

Summer wants to go to war. Winter just wants to protect her people and her family.
This is a prequel story to the author's Jack Frost series and as such needs no background. If you have read some of the later stories, than this would be a reunion rather than an introduction, but it works either way.
The story is a paranormal romance set in the fae courts. Like all of the author's works that I have read, there is magic, danger, intrigue and romance all mixed together. The story is very well written and the characters are very engaging, helping to draw you into the story. This is also a short read, easily accomplished in an evening. If you have read any of the author's other stories, you know what to expect and will enjoy this entry. If you are new, then this is the perfect opportunity to explore something new.
Highly recommended.

Nieves, the Winter Fae Queen, always hated waiting on Augusta the Summer Queen Fae’s next move. Augusta wanted to destroy the Winter Fae. Even if it meant the world would be unbalanced. The world would be left in turmoil and starving to death. Nieves had hidden her daughter Mila, the Fae Princess of Winter. She would bring her back to court after the threat of war with Augusta. But now it was time to call the frosts so winter would arrive. Nieves goes to the human world to make the frost appear so winter can come. While there she meets Jack. There is something about him. Could he be her mate? But that is impossible he is human. She can only mate with paranormals. What will happen? Nieves and Jack have an instant connection that she cannot understand. They have passion but will it last with everything they must overcome? This was a short but good prequel that leads up to Eira’s story.
Stuck between the devil and the deep sea, the winter fae queen Nieves has taken steps that have left her heartbroken.
She has already sent her daughter away trying to keep her safe from war. If she could only make the summer fae queen Augusta understand that all the seasons were important for the Earth cycle.
Already missing her daughter and trying to stop a war from starting, Nieves suddenly has an unknown starnger keeping tabs on her.
Is he her fated mate, a spy or an enemy.
A powerful story about how a woman tries to juggle everyrole in her life, puts everything & everyone before her own self all through her life.

It took me a little while to settle to Keira Steven's voice. The narration seemed a little stilted to start with but then relaxed and flowed beautifully becoming stilted again right at the end. It really didn't do anything to pull me out of the story though.
This was an enjoyable short story which I would guess sets things up for the actual series (which I am looking forward to listening to). It gives quite a lot of information about the world and the characters in it and builds it quite nicely without being overwhelming. When the punchline of the story dawned on me it really made me chuckle and I spent the rest of it waiting for that to happen. Which, again, didn't at all detract from the story. I enjoyed seeing how it was brought about.
I’ve been wanting to read many of this author’s books because they’re all so gorgeous. This one is just a quick read, under 2 hours. It’s got some great world-building, fun characters, a brewing war, real love (familial), instalove, heat … as you can see it manages to pack in a lot.
I’m not sure whether the author has more plans for this world, but it left me wanting more so I hope so.
Plausibility was a small issue for me once or twice, but overall it worked well. Will definitely read more from this author. There was a little twist that, though I saw coming, was still quote fun.
3.5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Note: I read the audiobook. Narrator has a very pleasant, smooth voice and I’ll be seeking more out from her. A 5-star performance.
The Winter Fae Queen Neives has been bringing the winter element around for some time. She was also mated at one time and her mate left her. He was not her soulmate, but for this union she has a child. She is trying to shelter her daughter because there has been recent events to suggest someone is trying to kill the queen or her daughter. Then here comes Jack who she cannot get a read on to see if he is paranormal or just human. She does feel comfortable around him and tries to brush off her feelings. Then something big happens that I did not see coming. I still wonder if she made the right choice. Its a short story to read, so it gets to the point real fast.
Loved this fresh take on a Jack Frost genesys story
I love Laura’s books in general and this short 90-minute read in particular. What a fresh take on Jack Frost! From the beginning you have an inkling where this is going, but the why came as a surprise, which I’ll not spoil for you - read the story and find out. I loved the author pointing out how the weather fae were opposite to humans where female and male dominance was concerned. This is an aptly named, fast-paced read that I’d recommend if you wanted to see how you liked Laura’s books. Also recommended for lovers of fae lore, weather magic, Jack Frost and Snow Queen and fast-paced fantasy reads.
How to prevent the Queen of the Summer Fae to give up on a war with the Queen of the Winter Fae.... Nieves, Fae Queen of Winter, really does not want to go to war. She wants to protect her daughter, spend time with her mate Jack, and keep her people safe. Together with Jack she develops a plan and hopes it will work out for the best. The story is a nice mix of fantasy and romance, and it explains how Jack Frost and his descendants became the bringer of winter. Loved the story line. Sacrifice, love, trust... this story packs it all in
A bit slow to start, this quick read dives in to the hard decisions a mother, who happens to be the Fae Queen of Winter, faces. She deals with love, new, and her unconditional love for her child, questioning who she can trust... and facing what she will do as her responsibilities to her people, and her child, sit on her shoulders with surprising grace.
Jack was an enigma... until he began to open up, and evolved into a character I should have seen coming... the bread crumbs were fairly and nicely laid out.
While this was a prequel to a series, and I was well aware of this going in, this story didn't quite hit the mark like I would have liked.
It set up decent world building and gave some interesting character details, but it didn't get me as excited as I would have liked for the future books.
I didn't have enough time with these characters to get really invested in them. It was an interesting premise, I just was left wanting more.
The narrator had a soft, relaxing tone that I thought was a good fit for the character. I would be interested in hearing more from her.
Prequel to Saving Eira A short cute novella (which I wish was longer) about a Fae Queen and her duties to her daughter and her people. The world was very well set up, I found myself being fully immersed into the story. It took me a while to realise the story was about Jack Frost but when I did I loved the inclusion of a character we don’t normally hear about!! The narrator was a very good choice as she fit the image I had of Nieves. Received a copy of the audiobook in a giveaway by the author*
A beautiful story about a Queen and a Mother. Nieves is the Fae Queen of Winter and in charge of bringing frost and the start of winter. Her child is endangered but she misses her baby. However the Fae Queen of Summer, Augusta has a vendetta against Nieves for some unknown reason. Jack is sent from his necromancy Order to take Nieves Magic through death or willingness. But the plot twist is clever as fate has given Nieves her wish but with life-changing consequences. Her child Mila’s safety is key but loneliness beckons and Nieves finds her fated mate. Jack Frost gets his debut in this story.
A short story prequel to the Winter seasons arc, this is a strange but sweet story that shows what happened when the Summer Fae Queen tried to steal the Winter Fae Queen's magic. I loved the explanation of Jack Frost, and the story is good, so if you're a fan of these books, fairytales, or of paranormal romance stories generally, this is a great short read I sure you'll enjoy. NB I received a complimentary copy of this book, but I always give an HONEST review based wholly on my own opinions
After reading Saving Eira, Frost’s Forfeit is interesting. It was such a cute read and one you should definitely read, ties in nicely with the rest of the whole series, even tho it’s a prequel, still goes with the Paranmoral Council, which is also a fantastic collection of books. Highly recommend this book and has a great HEA!

This story is quite cute. I loved to meet Jack and Nieves. I admired world creation and plot idea, only regret is that we have no more of background story. Despite it to be full story, or a prequel to be exact, it felt left hanging, since we didn’t get the answers. But it was very nice story despite that. And I admire Nieves for finding the way to protect her daughter, her soulmate and her people and even the future of the Winter season.
She has so much going on in her life and has a war brewing with the queen of summer. She is the queen of winter. How is she going to sort everything out? She has so many decisions to make and she need to do the best she can for her daughter, her people and her lands. See how she gets on

I'll admit, it took me longer than it should have to realize this was JACK FROST! I enjoyed this story. I wished it was longer because you can easily get lost in this novella. There's no other way to say this, but the narration was a bit stiff at first, but I don't think I would have picked anyone else to narrate this story. My only complaint is I wished it was longer.
Snow Queen meets Jack Frost in another fairytale retelling. I'd love to see this one expanded, as I loved the dynamics. Only warning to fellow readers: a lot of the plot hinges on fae society laws and rules, so, if that's not your jam as it is mine, you may find the references a bit tiresome. Me, I'll be in my bunk (likely somewhere in Autumn Court!).
Now well this is a whole separate universes for these books this is in fact a stand-alone and you can read it and enjoy it. It does have a conclusion. It will not leave you hanging. I enjoyed it and I really liked the decisions that have to be made and the strong characters
A short novel to give you the understanding the history of Frost and the Winter Queen. As always Laura really tells a captivating story with her imagination. So far I have liked all of her books and will read the rest.
Frost's Forfeit is a quick, entertaining story and a twist on the tale of Jack Frost. The characters are interesting, fun and well developed and I am looking forward to reading Saving Eira. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.
