Second chances are for kids, diets, and shelter pets—not for relationships. Especially not one like Chase and Emma’s.

Before he was writing chart-topping hits and smashing record sales, Chase Lawson was Emma’s childhood friend and first love. They promised each other forever, but forever expired at eighteen, when he landed a major record deal and left Emma and their hometown behind.

Ten years later, he shows up at their high school reunion with a proposition she can’t refuse. Six months. Seven figures. He gets a chance to clean up his reputation, and she gets the means to restore the old family farmhouse. It’s only for show—hold hands in public, kiss for the cameras—but boundaries blur behind closed doors.

It isn't long before Emma feels her resolve slipping, crushed by the shadow of the boy she grew to love in the man selling out stadiums of present. Can Emma resist one of the most irresistible bachelors in the world? Or will she fall for the same man twice?

This book is just perfect if you are looking for something easy to read that will leave you with a joyful feeling, some stars in your eyes and tears of contentment.

Nicole Williams has never disappointed me so far and this book enters the category or “romantic second chance story”.

My friend Angy does not like angst in her stories and I think if like her you love your drama very low key you should give this book a chance.

We follow Emma, the typical country girl working on her parent’s farm and loving her small town. She has no big dreams but had her heart broken at eighteen when her boyfriend Chase left her to pursue his dreams of fame and glory.

And famous he became!

Chase is now big, very big in the country music scene but he has somehow lost his way and now needs to improve his image and clean his act.

What better solution than to ask your old country girlfriend to rekindle the flame right?

Well that’s the plan and Emma gives him six months of her life. By the end they’ll part ways and she’ll be richer of one million.

You will have many used tropes here and won’t have many surprises (except for the choice made at the end) BUT it works really well!

-Second chance? Check.

-Country boy become superstar singer? Check.

-Next door old girlfriend? Check.

-Fake arrangement to help bad boy’s reputation? Check.

-Sass and banter as old girlfriend is not impressed by superstar status? Check.

-Drove of enamored female fans but star has only eyes for his girl? Check.

-Realization that fame is not the most important and that he did a big mistake? Check.

-Fool under the sheets because the chemistry is still off the charts? Check.

See you have them all but what makes it so enjoyable is Nicole’s experience as a writer used to play effortlessly with all these tropes and still make them look fresh and appealing!

It gives us a story without big surprises but so engaging that you’ll read it in one sitting like I did.

The characters are likeable and relatable. You will probably swoon just reading about Chase’s dedication to Emma and feel all hot and bothered when he sets his mind to make her live in the moment!
Are you a fan of Nicole Williams?
Thanks for reading!

"Letting you go was the bravest thing I've ever done."

I know this isn't going to sound good, but this book wasn't terrible but it most certainly was not my favorite. After reading a book that owned my heart and knowing what a well written book can do to me, this one fell far shorter than I wanted it to. No, I'm not comparing it to another book....I'm just realizing what I like and what works well for me. That makes me sad because I have been wanting to read her for quite some time. My disdain doesn't come from horrible writing, because that really wasn't it. It actually stems from the characters, and some of her actions...but also because it fellllt soooo sloooow to me and it was a bit too light for my taste.

Nicole Williams isn't a complicated writer, and for that I was thankful. She had an easy flow when it was moving forward. But having said that, it was also a very light book without a lot of depth and for that, I'm sad. At some points it felt very scripted, and there were times that the "drama" felt strategically placed in order to create an action to propel another action. Almost robotic: Cue the fighting couple so she can rescue her aaaaand ACTION! Cue the talk to keep her safe backstage and give her stubborn independence she needs to fight him, aaaaand ACTION! One plot point after another was added to run interference in their relationship to provide the necessary bumps along the way and I just didn't feel it. It may have also just been Emma....

I struggled quite a bit with Emma, to be honest, and I think she is what actually ruined the book for me. Yikes, I know! Not only did she fight what was right in front of her face the entire freaking time, but she ignored everything Chase was saying. Every.Single.Thing. And I, for the life of me, wanted to shake her while screaming at her - ARE YOU LISTENING?? Unfortunately, the ending sealed my deal on her. I was not a fan of hers at all. Not even a little bit.

But Chase? Man, oh man. He tried so freaking hard to bring her heart back to where it rightfully belonged and he had the patience of a saint - not gonna lie. I did enjoy their banter and I did feel the pull between them when she would actually give in to her feelings, against her mental arguments. It was very tangible....but again, her stubbornness and ridiculousness made me shake my head. Chase was a standup guy, earning himself an amazing living doing something he loved. Aaaand, NO. NOPE. Nuh Uh. That ending made me SO very angry. it just didn't work for me.

And yet, here's the caveat: if you like second chance romance with a very light flow to it, this may work for you. It was a very quick read. I can see many have enjoyed it, but it wasn't for me.

"My mind knows I don't stand a chance, but my body doesn't give a fuck about the odds."

Tips to write a second chance romance.

Boy loves girl.
Girl loves boy.

But he leaves her to fulfill his career or either he cheats or you can add some misunderstanding so they breakup.

The H should be a manwhore for sure as he needs to fuck the h out of his mind or you can make him celibate.

And then the reunion. He comes back or either they meet coincidentally and then they patch up (add some drama here) and then we have a Second Chance Romance.

This is just my random thought. I’m sure this book is somewhere on this line. So I’m skipping this one. Unless one of my friend give this a 5 star or 4 star.

“We all just take a leap of faith. Sometimes we fall. But we’d never know what it felt like to fly if we didn’t take the risk.”

3 stars

A short, sweet, easy read with a fun set-up and a swoony second-chance-romance.

Emma is at her ten year high school reunion when in saunters Chase Lawson, country music’s hottest star – also her first love and the man who broke her heart. Chase and Emma were once everything to each other, but after promising each other forever, he left her at 18 to pursue his career, never looking back. He has since hit the big time, but he’s also gotten into trouble and has been told to clean up his image. So he’s back in his home town to make Emma an offer - $1million to join him on his six-month tour, pretending to be his girlfriend. There’s nothing the tabloids love more than a reformed bad boy getting his act together by reuniting with his country-girl high-school sweetheart. It’s an offer too good to refuse, that will set Emma up for life and allow her to achieve her dreams, so she agrees.

This is a really predictable storyline, and it’s no surprise where it’s going to go, but I was surprised at how quickly it moved as Chase holds nothing back once Emma is back in his life.

“No amount of fame was worth the cost of losing you.”

“Six months,” I whispered unevenly.
His mouth lowered, floating just above my lips. “I’d take six seconds.”

Chase makes it clear from the very beginning that he still has feelings for Emma, and though she’s never really gotten over him, she’s determined to keep him at arm’s length to protect her heart. But that doesn’t mean they can’t act on their wild attraction, and so for six months they agree to just let it happen, despite the deadline on their time together.

“You left me in pieces when you disappeared.”
“I know.” His hand ran through his wet hair as he stared at the floor, his forehead drawn. “You’ll leave me in pieces this time when you leave.”

It’s an unusual arrangement, with both of them following their hearts and embracing their second chance, with no plans beyond their six months together, but they are so sweet together, and I fell in love with Chase as he grabbed his second chance with both hands and just went for it.

“I’m a big believer in second chances. Kind of an important policy to adopt when you’re as big of a screw-up as I am.” His hands wrapped around the back of his neck. “I want a second chance with the first woman I ever loved.”

It’s sexy and swoony with some really fun moments and a nice amount of emotion, and though it moves quickly, I could feel everything that was between them.

“Every person on this planet needs a reason to get up in the morning, and you, you are that for me.” One of his hands molded into the bend of my neck. “You’re my reason, Em.”

But they have big decisions ahead of them, which leads to some drama towards the end and I must admit that I wasn’t really satisfied with the ending. Yes, it’s a happy ending, but it’s not the ending that I wanted for them, and though it’s romantic, it’s abrupt and all felt a bit ‘meh’. . But they get their happy ending, so I can’t complain too much.

“I love you, Em. Always have. Always will.”

I’m a fan of Nicole Williams, and though this book is lacking the substance and intensity that I’m used to from her writing, it's definitely a sweet read.

I'm a sucker for second chance romances. And it's no surprise I really enjoyed Nicole Williams' newest book, Fool Me Once. This sweet and little to no angst romance hit the spot.

Chase and Emma have history. They dated in high school, but then Chase left Emma to pursue his music career. Emma was devastated and has done her best to forget him. What Emma didn’t expect was to see Chase after ten years at their high school reunion. Even though she can’t stand Chase he makes her an offer she can’t refuse. So, for the next six months Emma will be accompanying Chase on tour.

Emma has no idea what she’s getting herself into. And as Chase and Emma spend time together and reminisce, lines start getting blurred. But Emma can’t afford to get swept up in the game and magnetism that is Chase. She’s just going to take the next six months one day at a time. Can Chase convince Emma to give him another chance? Or is it too little too late for Chase and Emma to rekindle their old romance?

Fool Me Once was an enjoyable read. I really liked Chase and Emma’s story. Another win for Ms. Williams. Definitely recommend.

Chase and Emma were high school sweethearts. Then Chase walked away to live a life of fame and fortune, leaving Emma heartbroken and angry.

Ten years later, Chase approaches Emma at their high school reunion with a proposition. Go on tour with him and pretend to be his girlfriend, the reignited flame that helps him clean up his image in exchange for the money she needs to fix up her family home.

At first, I was annoyed at how easily Emma agreed to the deal, I always want more fight, but I also couldn’t blame anyone for agreeing to that kind of money.

Chase makes it clear from the minute Emma sets off on tour with him that his feelings for her never went away and that he has serious regrets about walking away. Understandably Emma is reluctant to let him in but it isn’t too long before she decides that, despite knowing that it all will end with their broken hearts, there isn’t any harm in giving in to the temptation for the sixth months that they do have.

As predicted, when the sixth-month deal comes to an end, hearts are broken. She wants to go home and live a quiet lifestyle and open her Bed and Breakfast. Chase is at the night of his career with his reputation back on track. There isn’t really a scenario that could possibly make a relationship between them work. Or is there?

I know that some people will be upset with how this story plays out but I actually thought it was the best outcome for these two as a couple and wasn’t done without a lot of thought and probably not as much sacrifice as you would assume.

Overall, this was a fun, sweet second chance romance that held a few surprises that I thoroughly enjoyed. If you’re looking for an enjoyable, quick read that still feels like a complete story I definitely recommend you pick this one up.

Well, I gave it a chance but it was an incredibly dull read for me. Even the fact that the Hero was celibate for 10 yrs didn't cheer me up. Unfortunately. The reunion was too easy. No relationship building, no real struggle or conflict. I expected and wanted more angst. But it was just lackluster, no real depth. Heroine was just easy peasy. Meh. And sure, Chase expressed regret and remorse. And stayed chaste. Still, I just didn't connect to him or Emma.

I guess I was missing that raw, deep, emotionally gut-wrenching aspect that usually accompanies these storylines? What with the Hero abandoning h to achieve fame, success, and all. Ending was abrupt for me. IMO, it would have helped the story immensely, if there was an epilogue. Shame.

I'm on a bit of a rock star run atm, so mostly that involves trying to find gold amongst all the dross that is out there!
This one is a sweet enough story, even though one aspect was very hard to believe, even if, as a true romantic, I would like to believe it
What I did like about it was the fact that, to be together, one of them really had to give up their career, and it was not who I thought it would be. So good on the author for that!
An easy read.

Fool Me Once is a sweet second-chance romance with little drama.

I am not usually a huge fan of books that don't give have a lot of angst or drama to fuel the story but with this one, I thoroughly enjoyed it. And that has everything to do with Nicole's writing.

Chase and Emma were high school sweethearts before Chase left Emma behind to go after his dreams. Ten years later, he's back, hoping to clean up his image with the help of his former love.

I really enjoyed how Nicole wrote this story. Nicole just lets everything play out naturally and I love that there is no drama or secret pining between the two of them. You know there was chemistry before and just because he upped an left, doesn't mean that chemistry died.

Chase holds nothing back from Emma and while Emma tires to stick to the deal they made, you can see that she does struggle with her emotions. I know that Emma wants to protect herself from being hurt again but what I love most is Chase's determination to win her over.

Overall, another great book from Nicole. Even though is a sweet romance with very little angst, it's her characters and her writing style that make this story stand out from the rest.

This was a quick and easy read. And that was the problem. There was great potential for something really powerful and heart-wrenching, and it never happened. I was left constantly hanging on the edge of an emotional scene or discussion, and just wanting more.

Chase broke Emma's heart when he left her at 18 in search of fame and fortune. Now they meet up again at their high school's 10th anniversary reunion, and he quickly convinces her to travel with him on tour for six months as his fake fiance to repair his reputation.

But why?

We are given hints throughout the book that Chase wants to turn their temporary "fling" into something permanent, and the reasons behind that desire. But he doesn't ever make a compelling argument for why Emma should. For example:

“You left me in pieces when you disappeared.”
“I know.” His hand ran through his wet hair as he stared at the floor, his forehead drawn. “You’ll leave me in pieces this time when you leave.”

No apology for shattering her heart. No declaration that he deeply regrets making the choice to leave her. No confession that he broke his own heart in the process.

I want my heroes to be less passive in accepting the fact that they've been separated, and that eventually she'll leave him this time. I want my heroes to actively fight to stay together with the women they will supposedly love forever.

His personal assistant treats Emma horribly because she's afraid Emma will hurt Chase, but there's never a confrontation of how Emma might do this. And while both Chase and Dani insist they have a sibling-like relationship, she was so cold towards Emma throughout the entire six months, I couldn't help but feel that Dani felt something more for Chase than she let on. It was a little uncomfortable for me, TBH. Maybe it was Chase's acceptance of Dani's meanness as his due that contributed to this feeling. He should have told Dani off, especially if he wanted Emma to stay with him. To not do so seemed disrespectful.

It was just It's like everyone in Chase's inner circle knows this big secret, but nobody bothers to clue Emma in. So, when she inevitably leaves him - because, again, she didn't have a good reason NOT to go - it felt a little anti-climactic. Seriously, if Chase acts like Emma's going to leave, and Dani believes Emma's going to leave, and nobody tries to convince Emma not to leave ain't nobody should be surprised when Emma up and f*cking leaves! And the ending was tied up a little too neatly (and quickly) for me.

In the end this lack of outright communication left me feeling disconnected from Chase. Maybe if we'd gotten his alternating POV and been privy to his thoughts and feelings, I could have rooted more for this couple. When I read a romance I want passion, I want excitement, I want to know that these people just can't live without one another. But more than that, I want to feel it.

But the writing itself was well done. The story interesting enough that I kept turning pages. There is nothing inherently wrong with this book, I just felt that it could have been so much more.

I look forward to trying another of the author's books in future.

I am such a sucker for a good second chance romance. I still can't put my finger on what I like about them so much. Next to RomCom, they are my bag when I need a cleansing from all of the dark things I usually crave. I need to thank the author for such a great, enjoyable read!

I fell in love with these characters very fast. There is no way you can dislike Chase or Emma. No freaking way. They are everything characters should be. I may even venture to say that Chase could be a book boyfriend of mine, if I had book boyfriends.

I am just going to throw it out there. The sex in this book fits perfectly. It's in all of the right places. It's not overdone. It just fits. And it's hawt. Like, my husband almost got laid while I was reading this book... almost. I felt reading the book was more important, so I kept with the book instead.

If you are looking for a sweet, enjoyable, second chance with a happily ever after, look no further. It's right here. I can't see how one wouldn't enjoy this book.

Fool Me Once is a sweet second chance romance. Emma and Chase were high school sweethearts until he up and left, leaving her with a broken heart, choosing fame and fortune over love. So when he returns unexpectedly, for the first time, to their 10-year high school reunion, things get interesting.

I love a good second chance romance. There’s a lot of emotions already involved from the past that can add to the intensity in the present. Plus, I just love that two people spend time apart, only to realize that nobody else measures up, and then ultimately they find each other again.

This book is also a fairly quick read, especially once you get sucked in, the pages really fly. It’s a lot shorter than what I’m used to from this author, among other things. This book is a departure from past Nicole Williams in many ways, the length of the book is just one among them. The style of writing is less thought-provoking, the plot of the book is much lighter and fluffier, the characters are interesting but not in the deep and intriguing way that I’m used to from her.

None of these things made this book unenjoyable, in fact I quite liked it. I just say it to caution you if you’re familiar with Nicole Williams, I would check your expectations at the door with this one, and just enjoy the book for what it is. Because if you go in expecting what she normally delivers, you’ll be disappointed.

Actually, you know what this book is perfect for? This is the perfect book to read after you’ve read one of Nicole’s darker reads and need something lighter to read immediately after. But I have to give her props, because if you thought that a fluffy book about high school sweethearts would make the steamy scenes less steamy, you would be wrong. Holy moly.

Fool Me Once was a great escape read for what I’ve got going on in life right now and I definitely recommend it if you need a little pick-me-up or just want some fun. Just remember: fans of Nicole Williams – check your expectations at the door.

Fool Me Once took the beloved rockstar trope and paired it with the goodness of a second-chance romance. The quick and engaging read set the scene to reunite a couple that hadn’t ended well many years ago, and brought the tension of that conflict into the present while forcing them into close quarters. Even without any scenes exploring their past, there was enough characterization to comprehend the attraction and heartbreak that lingered between Chase and Emma to fall into their story.

I was worried there would be a lack of history within the walls of their relationship due to the shorter length of the story, and yet I shouldn’t have been because it was there: the subtle glances of bottled up attraction, the trepidation to let the broken heart mend, the simmering anger, the shorthand connection. Every piece was where it should be and explored nicely, I just wish it could’ve been explored more—to really touch on all the notes that should have ripped into my heart, to bring on the stomach-dipping heartbreak a second chance romance should evoke from a reader. Chase played his role beautifully in having enough heart to be forgivable while having enough charisma to possibly be dangerous. And while I enjoyed seeing Emma grapple with blending the past and present, she was a bit harder to understand in her decision making, the missing pieces of her development as a character bleeding into the story in parts.

Fool Me Once was low angst and an easy read to fall into for an afternoon of straight-shot romance. I enjoyed their story and look forward to what Williams writes next.

This was a safe, fun read. There was a couple things I didn't like. Chase was exerting some controlling tendancy's, especially as he issues a bodyguard for her. Personally, I wouldn't have liked being treated like a child, even if he was a famous person and being around him made me a semi-target. Nobody tells me what to do... not if he wants to keep his balls.

Chase and Emma were high school sweethearts. He left town and became a famous country singer. He comes back to town for their 10 year reunion and is in need to a good woman to become his girlfriend and help reshape his reputation. He pays her 1 million for 6 months.

In the course of completing her contract, they get together and deal with his new life in the limelight. She doesn't fit in. The end of the book has him

Safety: They'd been each other's firsts and he'd never been with another woman the entire time they were separated, 10 years. It wasn't commented on specifically, but she'd had others during that time.

Nicole Williams delivered two of my favorite tropes in one book and my heart is happy. We get a fake relationship and a second chance romance. And she did them both so well. I devoured this book and read it within a few hours.

I adored both Chase and Emma. Emma is so fun and fierce and she knows what she wants in life. And Chase is just so charming. He may live the superstar life, but he’s so down to earth. These two had incredible chemistry and it’s clear the fake dating was not going to last long. They are so fun together and they turned my heart into a puddle of goo. Their story was pretty low on the angst, but their story wasn’t without their problems. They had a lot to work though if they wanted to make this second chance work and both of them had a lot to get through and I loved every second of it.

Nicole Williams always delivers a good read and this was no different. She always writes characters that you truly care for and her couples always have such amazing chemistry. Fool Me Once was such a sweet read with a ton of heart. It’s the kind of book that just puts a smile on your face. Contemporary romances fans this is for you.

A second chance romance that started out on a high note between a famous country singer and the girl he left behind in smalltown Oklahoma. I was right in the mix for the a big part until I wasn't. The bottom dropped out. The heroine was a little too willing and the hero had a MAJOR surprise up his sleeve that was too far-fetched to be believable. Ten years is a loooooong time! And then the ending was so rushed and less than thrilling -- totally unrealistic in my opinion -- that I was left feeling short-circuited.

This story right here is exactly why I LOVE this woman’s writing. She brings romance and the FEELS like no other. Nichole Williams is a must click author and this second chance romance brings it on another level.

Second chance romance. SIGN ME UP.
It’s there 10 year high-school reunion and Chase Lawson is here. After 10 years, after he broke her heart. Now he shows. Emma is offered a deal she cannot walk away from, from the man she swore she’d never give 2 seconds of her life to again. He’s a big time country singer, a mega superstar, he needs a favor and she’s the only person who can make this work. She must travel with him for 6 months and pretend they are a couple for a small fortune. He has tarnished his reputation over the years and needs Emma. They both need each other.

I LOVED the on the road feels. The music. The backstage life.

I knew the moment these too were put back together there would be sparks, and fireworks.

The FEELS. I swear I fell in love with Chase and this romance from the very first chapter. I adored the chemistry, the memories, and the feel good emotions of falling in love all over again.

Nichole sure knows how to string together a second chance romance, like no other.

Another, nailed it book, by my favorite.

This is a tough review to write because I did finish the book and I did enjoy it, but I didn't have the character connection that I need to really get involved in a book. This is a trope that has been done before and when this is the case I like to see something different, something that the author does to stamp their mark on it, but that didn't happen in this book. One particular revelation did feel far fetched and unbelievable and a tad convenient, but it gave me one of those eye-roll moments that I desperately don't want when reading and the ending was a tad predictable. However, it was fast-paced, the story flowed and moved quickly and it killed an evening. I normally love, love, love Nicole Williams books, and while I liked this one, it didn't have that Nicole Williams vibe for me.

Fool Me Once is a second chance romance. The story is fast paced. Iconic Country singer Chase Lawson needs to clean up his image. He hires his first love and high school sweetheart Emma Young. Ten years ago he chose a record deal over Emma. He shows up at their 10 year high school reunion with a proposition she can’t refuse. This offer will allow her to travel and restore her family’s farmhouse.

I lived in jeans and boots, ponytails and Chap-stick.

Emma and Chase have a lot of unresolved feelings. Emma still feels so much hurt over Chase. I was surprised that she agreed so quickly to his proposal. She is adamant that she can resist Chase and that any reunion would not work out.

“Unlikely. Disastrous. Volatile. Pick your adjective.”

I love Nicole Williams and will always read what she writes. Fool Me Once is romantic and charming at times but it lacked substance. The characters and setting are established quickly. Emma and Chase go from “no” to “go” rather fast. The writing is good and the pace stayed steady but I just felt like I was missing something. The story is straight forward. Of course there is a bit of drama but all is well soon after and then the story just…ends. As I said above, I love Nicole Williams! She is a one click author for me and will remain so!

It's okay.
It starts a bit abruptly with the heroine agreeing to the Hero's deal, which seemed a bit unrealistic.
No intimate scenes with anyone other than the Hero and heroine.
Hero not a manwhore type despite the band lifestyle and plenty of offers.
HEA.
Abrupt end.

I’m a fan of second chance love stories. This one was okay. Boy leaves girl behind. Boy becomes big music super star. 10 year reunion and boy gets girl to fake a relationship with him. Then again, are either of them faking their feelings.
I just don’t think I really felt connected to either character.

"History lessons are for learning, not reliving."

Fool Me Once is a standalone romance written by Nicole Williams. This story is about second chances and learning to let your heart forgive and your mind to forget.

Chase and Emma had the imperfectly perfect love story. They fought hard and loved sweet. At sixteen they gave each other the greatest gift of all, the promise of forever. But when eighteen years old came calling Chase left Emma heartbroken and bitter when it comes to love, in order to pursue his second love, Music.

Now ten years later Chase is back, and he's back with a negotiation and a one million dollar check. He's about to get his second chance, but at what price?

My Thoughts:

Holy sweetness!
Chase and Emma's story is a whirlwind full of angst, forgiveness, and second chances. I legit could not put this one down. From the start to the end I was left on the edge of my seat needing to know if these two survive and make it through.

Chase is a country music superstar. At eighteen he packed his guitar and a suitcase and left his sleepy country town to pursue his career. He's always lived with one regret, that being leaving Emma behind. I have to say, when I first met Chase in this novel, I didn't like him much. I anticipated this being just like every other romance involving a male musician, I already had it ingrained in my mind that Chase Lawson would be the typical manwhore who thinks he's god's gift to all woman. i'm woman enough to admit when I was wrong, and holy hell was I wrong! Chase Lawson has a tough bad boy exterior. However, hidden beneath the surface, this man is the boy next door! Ah, I freaking loved this sudden turn of events. Chase was a fun man to get to know. There is nothing typical about him!

Emma was crushed when Chase left town ten years ago. Having not heard from the man who held her heart since she was sixteen, to say she's bitter about seeing him again would be a complete understatement. This girl has a freaking steel wall built around her broken heart and shattered soul and it shows by the icy cold shoulder she throws at Chase when he reenters her world and causes an unexplainable uproar. I don't blame Emma for the way she feels. It was fun to see a female not bend to Chase's every request. She's always been the one to test Chase and fight back, in ten years, that hasn't changed at all.

Fool Me Once incorporates a few of my favorite tropes. Musicians and second chances are the way to get straight to my heart. I was surprised at every turn, this novel legit blew me away and wasn't at all how I imagined it playing out.

I have to say, I think my most loved character in this novel would be Emma's dad! He reminds me so much of my dad, it gave me frightening flashbacks to those teenage heartbreak moments. one of my favorite moments:

"That boy hurts you again, Em, and it won't matter how much reasoning you or your mama throw at me, he's going to be picking my shotgun shells out of his hind end for weeks.
"He'd write a song about it no doubt. Capitalize on getting shot by the father of his ex-girlfriend. Title it, 'Break Her Heart, Get Shot in the Ass."

I could not stop laughing, hell, I still laugh everytime I read those lines. Emma's dad is definitely a man to be admired and remembered. He's a good daddy, maybe a tad bit overprotective, but still a good daddy.

Although I loved the hell out of this novel, I dropped half a star because I felt like the ending was rushed. I needed a little more in those moments.

Overall, I really loved Fool Me Once! I cannot wait to reread this one again. Chase is also my newest book boyfriend! this man deserves every spot on every list. He's so freaking sweet and everything I never imagined him being. This was a great read with not only lighthearted laugh out loud moments, but also those moments that have the strong potential to crush your soul. I want more! If you are a fan of second chances, I highly recommend you pick up Fool Me Once!
