Charity’s escapades have only been between the pages of books, Seth is a man with a temper. Together, they just might discover the love they’ve been looking for.
Charity found the ad to become a Pinkerton detective and knew it was her chance to break out of the pages of the books she read and live a life of adventure. She knew all about being a detective. She’d read countless books about it. After all, how hard could it be? Seth is a good Pinkerton detective. A little rough on the outlaws that he brings in. It’s his temper. When lead detective, Archie Gordon, demands his agents are to be paired with new recruits, Seth is disgusted. When he finds out they’re women, he’s ready to quit. Except he’s broke. And then when he finds out he has to marry her. Well, there just aren’t any words just the hope she’ll quit. Thrown together on a case with a secretive client, a mysterious stranger, and mail order brides present a harrowing adventure with surprises. A sweet historical romance.
As a Pinkerton Agent Seth should know better, appearances can be very deceiving and his quiet little mouse of a wife is hiding the heart of a tiger and the determination of a bull. Seth is difficult to like at the beginning of the book, but as the book progresses Angry Seth slowly disappears and In Love Seth gradually appears, he is so much better and so much more reasonable! Charity is a bit of an enigma, she is very book smart, has good instincts and common sense but little life experience, can she make a Pinkerton Agent or is she too innocent? This is great journey of self discovery for both Seth and Charity, another hit for the Pinkerton Matchmaker Series.
Charity never thought of herself as pretty - no one had ever told her she was. She was a "blueblood" or a bookish miss. She loved to learn. She was also very good at seeing things around her that other people missed. When the opportunity arrived for her to become a Pinkerton Agent, she snatched it up; unfortunately she was paired with the boorish man.
Seth's life hadn't been easy. He lost his family at a young age to outlaws, and he wanted revenge. He didn't have any care or love for the outlaws that he hunted and unfortunately many suffered at his hands - something that was going to get him into trouble. Suddenly he has a wife and partner, and they are going on an assignment to protect a woman who is a MOB. She wanted the Pinkerton's to make sure she made it safely - but was that the only reason she wanted them along. Something was brewing in the background and Charity couldn't quite figure out what it was. Seth just wanted to get this job over with - well, at first he did. As he saw how smart and intuitive and beautiful his wife was - well, things changed.
I really liked this story. The case they were on was the main focus in the story, which in some of the other books it wasn't. In this story, Patricia was able to give me a good picture of my characters while still flowing through the story that mattered, slipping in information along the way that helped me understand my characters better.
I have bread for or five books from this series and I must say this one is my favorite. Charity is a bookworm whose lifehas only been live in the pages of books, but after her dad dies with nothing tying her to the library and home she has lived in all her life she applied to be a Pinkerton agent. After all she has read all of Alan Pinkertons books and every other book on investigation and detective. Seth is an angry quick the violent Pinkerton agent who is query before jail either ends up at the docks the best it stop or in a coffin because he shot him in a upon finding out he will have a femaleagent his only hope is that it isn’t the bookworm with the glasses. Unfortunately that is exactly who he is paired with and it is be through her sheer determination and intellect that they will solve the case. I love this book it was the most plausible storyline for if this is truly how they got female agents in the 1800s. I love that not only was it funny and made me laugh more than once the Romance was sweet and I head to book down momentarily but kept thinking about the characters a mark of a truly good book. I highly recommend this book if you love marriage of convenience you’re going to love this book.
Book 9 of the Pinkerton Matchmakers series was another interesting story. While not one of my favorites, I did enjoy it. After the death of her father Charity is looking for a new adventure and being the book worm that she is, she feels she has read enough detective stories and has good instincts so that would make her a good Pinkerton agent. She is surprised to learn that the Denver Pinkerton agency is now pairing their male agents with female agents in training and requiring them to get married as it will be more proper with the male agents training and protecting the female agents in the field. She is paired with hot headed, anger driven Seth. They are given a case to protect a mail order bride and get her safely to her intended, or so they think. This mission is not at all like they thought as they begin to uncover a trafficking ring.
This was fun. Charity is leaving New York because her father died, and she wants adventure other than in a book. She takes the Pinkerton job. She is paired with what to her is an uncouth ruffian. But she is determined to be the best Pinkerton there is. Seth wants nothing to do with marriage or this non-descript woman. Charity has read all her life and is prepared to be an agent. When Archie assigns them to protect a woman going to her fiancé, Seth doesn’t take it seriously. But Charity feels something is horribly amiss. What these two find, is very serious. But there are some laugh out loud moments. Another wonderful story about an agent and his temporary bride/trainee.
This is the story of Seth a rough and tumble, hard nosed Pinkerton agent and Charity, a shy mousey librarian. Her father had past away recently and she longed for adventure and excitment. She applied and was actually opted into the lady Pinkerton program in Denver. She did not know getting married was part of the Pinkerton plan and program. You will find adventure, excitement, humor and the promise of love everafter. You will enjoy this story in the Pinkerton Matchmaker series. Give star book!
A librarian who wants to be a Pinkerton Agent and an Agent known for his anger and aggression are matched to act as bodyguards for a Mail Order Bride traveling to meet her intended. This is Charity’s and Seth’s story. Patricia PacJac Carroll writes an intriguing story filled with twists and turns dealing with a sensitive subject. Her characters are fully developed and relatable. I was fully engaged from beginning to end. I highly recommend An Agent for Charity.
Charity thought she had just a typical life. Not doing much of anything except helping her father in the library. She experience life through reading books. Then when her father dies she decides to go on an adventure. She decides to become a Pinkerton agent. She reads all kinds of books on the subject and then sets out for Denver. To learn more read this book ...
I would have given 3.5 stars if that was an option, but decided to round up. The story was good, but it took me longer to get invested with these characters than it did some of the other characters in the series. The main character in this book used the word “typical” all the time to describe how she was feeling, and honestly that started to become annoying and didn’t really fit. But I did like the story and it left an opening for more characters in future books.
Charity longs for adventure beyond the books she reads. After her father dies she applies to become a Pinkerton deceive and makes the cut. Will it be too much adventure for her? I loved this book. It was a quick read as I couldn't put it down. Charity a d Seth are partners pretending to be married but is there more to their relationship? A great read for all mystery fans.
When did Seth start seeing agent Charity as his bride instead of a mousey wife and how did Charity think going to saloon would help her her being married to one of the top agent.somethings to find out when you buy this book. Loved it would recommend this book to friends
Mystery, suspense, intrigue woven through this story of a wanna be Pinkerton Agent and her Pinkerton partner that takes the reader from the mountains to Chicago and on to New Orleans before arriving in Brownsville Texas escorting a client/mail order bride to her intended.
This adventure was exciting and dangerous. I enjoyed reading as the main characters came to know and care about each other. I liked how they interacted with and helped other characters. I liked how they teased, bantered, argued, assisted, and came to love each other. This book is a great addition to the Pinkerton series.
Thanks for another interesting adventure. One of the best storytellers around, love all of her stories. Looking forward to the rest of the series. Really don't want it to end.
Charity wants a life of adventure. She's read all the books and she's been accepted as one of the first female Pinkerton agents. This is a fun read that will have you laughing and cheering for mousey little Charity who always seems to come out in too.
This was such a compelling story. I just love this story and they keep getting better. My favorite part was the ages; Charity is 21 and Seth is 24-25. I think it is great.
Can Seth overcome his anger at the loss of his family? Can Charity become out going. A good storyline and good characters to catch your fancy every step of the way.
Cute clueless Charity takes on stubborn Seth who is known for being overly rough. Sham of a marriage to train agents gets them involved with a dangerous ring. - Babs
I love this book because it looks deeper than skin deep. We need to look at people for who they are and how God sees them. I also like the hero part of it. We all want a hero.
I absolutely loved this book. I love the adventures that the agents and their new wives take on. Most of them hate the idea of having to marry to keep their job but as time goes on they find their happily ever after. I recommend this book.
I really enjoyed this installment in this series. It had a more complicated plot than some of the others and a lot of action. I found it quite enjoyable.
