Omega Gray Tomlinson is positive he’ll remain unmated for the rest of his life. By his mid-thirties, he remains unclaimed and without prospects, and lives confined to the Omega Quadrant, where he’s sure he’ll end up dying alone.
When his older brother, Silver, and Silver’s alpha die in a tragic accident, Gray’s nephews come to live in his little sequestered world. Without an alpha, he knows he has little means to help support the boys. The only choice he can stomach is to offer his services as a surrogate.
The minute Gray meets Jamie, the infertile omega who so desperately wants a child, he senses a bond like none he’s ever felt before. It’s brotherly love at first sight, and Gray decides Jamie is the one, agreeing to carry his and his alpha, Rohan’s, child.
But when circumstances change, Gray is faced with new challenges, a new love interest, and a battle for the very life that grew inside him. And maybe there’s an alpha out there for him after all…
International bestselling MM romance author Kelex lives in Hampton Roads, Virginia with her twenty-something slacker kidult and two senior grandpups.
When not being a pain in her daughter’s ass or writing under various pen names, she also loves to create stained glass, paint, crochet, bake gorgeous breads, and host game night with all her kiddos, be they born or adopted.
God, I wasn’t ready for this. Kelex writes one of the best mpreg stories. I was bawling my eyes out in the end. A story about friendship and unconventional love. Alpha Rohan is torn between his mated sick omega Jamie and their surrogate omega Gray. The best thing that happened here was the friendship and the romance second. I need more stories like this. This will forever haunt me. To the mpreg doubters there, please read this! This was amazing from start to finish.
This book is AMAZING. It's beautiful, heartbreaking, emotional, full of hope and love, and I just LOVED it.
This is a non-shifter, mpreg, ABO'verse type of story, the first for this author (although, not the first mpreg by any means, if you haven't already - her Bear Mountain series and the spin-offs are a MUST read) and I love the framework established and world building she has created here. In this world, there are alphas, betas, and omegas - and they are all rigidly put and then kept in their places through living quarters, available jobs, and society. Omegas have few rights other than being baby-makers, and alphas have ALL the rights.
Gray is an omega in his mid-thirties, who has never met his alpha. He now has to raise his nephews (who are all omegas as well) after his brother and his mate pass, and he's unsure of how to make ends meet. Surrogates are used when alpha and omega couples can't have children, (although there are still stigmas attached to this as well) but Gray thinks that this might be his best, and only, option, despite his oldest nephew Avery going out to make his own way in the world.
Jamie is an omega who desperately wants a child - but his battle with cancer has left him unable to have children. He searches for a surrogate, and finds the perfect one in Gray. I loved his friendship with and love for Gray. They quickly became the best of friends - brothers - and I loved how much they came to care for the other.
Rohan, Jamie's alpha, wants the very best for Jamie. He'd do anything for him, so he reluctantly agrees to the idea of having a surrogate to give them a child. But then the feels start - and Rohan questions everything - how can he have his omega, Jamie, and also have feelings for Gray? Why would Jamie be OK with that?
I don't want to give too much away, because I don't want to ruin the reading experience for anyone. I will just say - this was an incredibly emotional journey for these three men and their families. Get that box of tissues ready, and I rarely cry reading books. I loved the relationships and interactions they all had - all the emotions, the want, the love, the pain. It was beautiful.
And give me Avery and Wilder! Their story is going to be YUM I expect, and hopefully a bit less teary?
I received an arc in exchange for an honest review.
The book is a page turner for sure. But there’s a lot of pain. Gray, the surrogate omega, carries twins babies for several months with no help from anyone, while still taking care of his nephews and dying best friend. Gray then after the twins birth, which damage him internally, takes care of two newborn babies by himself. This alpha Rohan has repeatedly told Gray, Jaime is my forever, I love Jaime not you, I don’t need you. Gray has been through HELL and back. But at the end of the day Gray forgave Rohan WAAAY to easily, all Rohan did was say I love you and they lived happily ever after. Nah.
First of all, this is an NON-SHIFTER omega verse story where the world has only one gender-MALES. So there is also M-preg. Read at your own CAUTION! But I promise you, it is a VERY enjoyable read.
"I am just a womb with legs and no alpha to fill it"
Second, DON'T dive into this book to expect pages FULL of sex and lust and all the sexual things I can think of... I believe this is TRULY a emotion-filled book, It's more than just sex YES, there ARE lustful stares and sex at the end, but the story it's self is satisfying in other ways.
Now, I have read and watched my fair share of books and movies to know where the plot was going, but that didn't stop me from reading...
Jamie is the sweetest and brightest soul of a character I have ever read. Jamie's love for both Rohan (mated love) and Gray (brotherly love) was THE purest and deepest I have read in a LONG time.
I prayed and prayed for Jamie but I knew the ending to it, I just couldn't help it if I loved a fictional character... and even though I KNEW I still CRIED by eyes out...
Jamie smiled softly at his brother. “Because tomorrow’s never promised to us, Wild. If not , it could be a trolley accident, or a fall, or any number of accidents. I don’t want to wait. I want to live today, not tomorrow.” Jamie sighed.
The brother...WILDER he was so supportive, a true sibling, best friend, and caring family...more than Jamie could ask for when his parents weren't there for him
Moving onto Gray...he was a true MC, caring, lovable, and also searching for a happy ending and his alpha he believed he didn't have. His nephews, Avery (19) was also very supportive, Auggie (10) was a sweet angel, and Lake (13) was a asshole at first, but I could understand the pain and struggle he was going through.
I know I talked mostly about Jamie even though he is not the MC, but he should be considered as one of the MCs. He played a HUGE role in the book and my fav character!
I really don't have any opinions on the actual MCs, but I will say their story in point form: MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD
Long story short if you didn't read the spoiler, HEA for the MCs. Yay!
Overall, this was an enjoyable and beautiful read. Definitely a change of theme after Alessandra Hazard's Straight Guys series! Can't wait for the next book release of this series with Avery's story!["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
I read the blurb and thought to myself, you know I could use a good cry. Yeah, famous last words.
But and it’s a big one, it was the cathartic kind, at least that’s what I told myself as tears streamed down my face for a good 75% of this book.
I cried for Gray and everything he lost but mostly everything he never had. I cried for Jamie because of his strength and beautiful spirit. And I cried for Rohan for how much he loved and adored his omega.
And now I’m freaking exhausted … but guess what? No regrets, not a single one because this story is amazing!
And I’m not even gonna tell you why, you need to read it to find out just how wonderful these characters are and everything they experienced together. The good, the bad and the ugly crying.
From the first page until the last I couldn’t get enough from this heartbreaking 💔 story about friendship, love and loss. 😭 I had held out hope this couple would turn into a trio 🥰 which in away it kinda did. 🤔 Jamie was a omega that couldn’t have a child due to an illness and Gray volunteered to help because he needed money to help support his nephews because his brother and husband died suddenly from an accident and this was the only thing he could do to help his family. Unmated omegas were sectioned to an area until they meet their mate so this was the only thing Gray could do to bring money into the household to help support them. Gray got more than he bargained for, he wound up finding a true friend in Jamie who brought so much into his life and had nothing but good intentions to take care of everyone he loved even if he didn’t survive to see the fruition of his plans. Gray was also selfless in his feelings and actions towards Jamie, even knowing he fell in love with Jamie’s mate. 😢 This book flowed so well and I found myself feeling for each and every character with the exception of Jamie’s parents 😡 Rohan was an alpha willing to do anything for his mate even deny his attraction and love for Gray but I was happy that Gray stood his ground with the alpha and didn’t make himself a door mat for Rohan’s guilt. Even after I finished this book I went back and reread the last chapter. ❤️ This was a phenomenal book and it deserved as many stars ⭐️🥰⭐️🥺⭐️💔⭐️🤩⭐️😭⭐️😭⭐️👶🏻👶🏻⭐️😍⭐️ as possible!!
Simply spectacular! His Surrogate Omega is one of the finest omegaverse stories I've ever read. Well, I should say listened to, because I had the supreme pleasure of listening to John Solo narrate this one.
I've lauded Mr. Solo's skills over and over, so please bear with me again; his performance in His Surrogate Omega is magnificent! This is a highly emotional story, a real heartbreaker, and I broke down and cried four times over the course of the story. The feeling that Mr. Solo brings to these scenes enhances everything about this story. Do yourself a favor and experience this novel in audio - it’s 100% worth it!
Kelex builds a fantastic world here. I just enjoy these kinds of stories so much more with great details and explanations which make sense. The characters, the relationships, honestly just everything about it, His Surrogate Omega is absolutely incredible.
an audiobook copy of His Surrogate Omega was provided to me by the author for the purpose of my honest review
Really loved this emotional ride of a story. Gawwwww this book was hard to put down. Because who really needs to sleep??? So, if you couldn’t guess I cannot wait for Avery’s story. Which needs to be available by the time I tap submit on this review.....😏
I wasn't, in a million years, expecting this, I got a bittersweet surprise picking this book. It is about a surrogate, but in this omegaverse, omegas giving their baby is almost like a suicide because of the bond that forms.
So you have a sick character that can't have kids, an omega who never found love and an alpha who just wants to do what's best for his omega and I just couldn't deal.
The pain that all of them went through, the dynamics that surfaced because of the situation is all so complicated and brilliantly written. I loved this, I won't say anything else because is worth going in blind.
I admit this author's work have not worked for me much. But so many of you said this was so good and OMG it WAS! There were so many emotions - a pretty well developed world. Everything flowed very well - and it was long enough to really immerse in the story. Highly recommended for Mpreg and ABO fans.
I… Listen, I can tell that the author loved their work. I very much… did not.
The premise was amazing, but the manipulations of Jamie were insensitive at best, and manipulative at worst. “He meant well” was not a sentiment that saved what he did.
And Gray, the main character, was likable, but made my skin crawl in literally every scene with Rohan. (Rohan is Jamie’s mate.)
I know that Rohan and Jamie were very much in love, but having Gray sweep in and fill the void Jamie left behind with his passing due to cancer made me feel sick. Gary doesn’t have the chance to actually forge a genuine bond with Rohan, no matter how “instinctually compatible” they are because every thought, every event, and the whole circumstance was laid out by Jamie.
This “love story” (and I absolutely do not want to call it that, but what else is it supposed to be???) isn’t about Gray and Rohan falling together; it’s about how Jamie’s orchestrated machinations led to him forcing Gray into Rohan.
I know Gray wants a mate but I felt so bad for him, KNOWING that he would never occupy space in Rohan’s mind that was not associated with Jamie. Doesn’t he deserve to, though? Is it too much to ask to see Rohan genuinely fall for him with absolutely NO relation to Jamie?? God, it’s so sad how it played out.
And Rohan! Rohan had little to no say in any of it. He was coerced into agreeing to a surrogate child. Nature demanded his compatibility with Gray. Then even Jamie lied to him and his scheming for damn near the entirety of the book. Quite frankly, it left me feeling very ill. Consent wasn’t even really a thought he was afforded.
I hated the execution. I barely stomached reading it through the one time.
If Jamie had passed quietly or maybe even before the book picks up, I would have rated this a hefty 4 or 5 stars, but wow. No. I could not get behind this.
I can’t give it any lower than a 1 star, but oh man. I did not like that story one bit.
I’m 61% in and there is zero romance. There’s lots of story happening, and interesting characters. But the centerpiece of this story is more family drama then love story, thus far.
The angst in this one is Brutal. God it felt like a weight was on my chest for most of the book. I felt so bad for everyone involved but especially Gray. He deserved so much better than everything he was given.
Moreso than romantic it was just a really sad book about an omega trying to survive in an oppressive world and meeting another omega with cancer
The only good thing about this book is Jamie. His story is sad and it touched me, purely because cancer sucks. It is however not enough to make up for the rest of the story. Rohan and Gray are practically forced together without any relationship building, without any connection and then they randomly love each other at the end. Clearly he's not equal to Jaimie, and never will be. I really wanted Gray and Rohan to have one moment where I read, "ah, here they are, this is going to work" , but I just got a bad vibe. The entire story is about Gray feeling sad, Jaimie dying and then a rushed forced narrative that's ridiculously insensitive with no feeling. The ending then puts two people in a relationship that doesn't like one another nor feel any chemistry to words each other. I don't understand why Gray and Rohans story is so rushed, it's so disingenuous, no development, just nothing. Clearly the author knows how to write, because he/she reached a full well rounded complex character with Jaimie. I just wished they put the same thought into the other characters. An opportunity missed, which makes this book so frustrating to read, because the potential is there.
PS. I despise m-preg books, I find it ridiculously offensive to women. And honestly if the dudes can get pregnant, don't call them dudes, might as well have called Gray, Greta and Jaimie, Jane it wouldn't have changed anything about the story. It's disrespectful to gay men and women. I read this because the books blurb really caught my eye. Still disappointed I read this though.
His Surrogate Omega was a very emotional read. It's very different from what I normally read so I did enjoy it. I loved the characters, the story and some parts made me flat out ball.
The only thing I had a problem with was that the relationship progressed super fast once it became a thing. But it took forever to get there (which I completely understand) but maybe another 50 pages at the end would've helped.
Kelex!? More like Kleenex! (she said with all the love in the world)
WOW THE TEARS I CRIED. Listen, I obviously knew going in that this was gonna hurt but goddamn, I was a mess; because it hurt so beautifully! This is a very, very, very complex story/premise and one that can only come across effectively if it's written well and I think Kelex more than did the story justice. I've been somewhat hesitant to read this book for that reason alone but I'm SO GLAD I finally decided to just go for it.
If you thought MM mpreg omegaverse was unconventional, this book takes it up another notch and I am HERE FOR IT. I love when omegaverse authors really lean in to their writing and make an already unique genre that much more unique.
The characters were also beautifully written - especially Jamie, our shining star. His relationship with Gray made my heart so warm I wanna cry just thinking about it. Again, props to the author because the dynamics between Jamie, Rohan, & Gray COULD HAVE been an absolute shit-show but it wasn't in the least. It was absolutely magnificent - everything that happened made sense for their characters and it was so lovely to see how everything played out, even if it was so very bittersweet.
I read this on a whim just based on my friends' reviews and it was so good!
Highly angsty and emotional, this is not a traditional romance in the slightest. And tbh, I think you should go into it not knowing much about the plot. His Surrogate Omega is a story that tugs at your heart and will make you a mess. It's not going to be for everyone, but I loved it. A story about family, grief, and second chances, this is an omegaverse/mpreg book you should pick up asap. I cannot wait for the next book!
Thank you to Debbie for recommending this book to me but damn babe, when you said get the Kleenex you didn't say I would need to invest in the damn company!! SO MANY TEARS!!
This book was gut wrenchingly beautiful. The heartache came from all different directions and in many different forms. I was sobbing for Grey and his nephews, for Jamie with all this strength and then Rohan. Gods, he was the epitome of strength and resilience but when he broke it was so heavy. I've never wanted to a hug a character more.
Even with all that heartbreak there was so much love and light in this book. For a book to be that heavy the love that flowed through these pages was immense. Not just the love that comes when you realize you've lost someone but the love that is constant always. The love you know will never fade no matter what happens because these people are yours. They might not be your blood, but they are yours.
I've got to stop this review here. I have so much to say but go in blind. Don't let a review spoil this book for you. If I would have known how this book was going to go, I wouldn't have read it. Grab the emotional support vodka, invest in some Kleenex and grab the blanket because once you start you won't be able to stop until the end.
Omg... I cried so much through this that I’m honestly wondering if I’m pregnant or if the book is just that emotional. Lol!
This was beautiful. I realise the blurb was agonisingly vague and the reason was obvious and necessary so I can’t divulge too much. It really kept me guessing which way it would go. And...it was perfect. Just perfect.
I loved Jamie. I loved Gray and I wish we had the chance to have known Gray’s brother Silver too. The omegas certainly stole the show in this! Auggie too 🥰
Contrary to the blurb, this is entirely MM/M and not M/M. By 70% there’s no romance between the two supposed MCs, in fact they’re extremely adverse to it.
Nah. I genuinely don't understand how this book has so many good reviews (except maybe I do, I read and liked some crappy books in my day when I was younger) But this book. Sigh. I read Alessandra Hazard's Wrong Alpha series and that's how I found this book... these are not comparable! I love AH's books, this book here however... I guess I liked to hate that. And I was pissed a lot during this book as you'll be able to see from the lengthy review that's gonna follow. 🚫 The world makes no sense. If you make a world where there are no women and men have to carry children then explain why. Did all the women die somehow, forcing men to evolve to be able to carry children? Did they do it with science? Just anything. In this story the typical "men" and manly traits were given to alphas and "women" were the omegas. And then there are the betas that seem to play no role whatsoever as usual in these stories I guess. 🚫 Because of that ⬆️ the story seemed just very sexist and misogynistic (again just change the pronouns a little and nothing changes, it's a story how women (omegas) have to fulfil their role in the world and carry children. That's their entire life mission. Find an alpha (a man). Have kids. 🚫 Jaime's full first name is Jaymes. His parents' and his brothers' last name is Jaymes.. was he Jaymes Jaymes before marrying?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?! 🚫 Jaime turned to eye his alpha. "Please, Rohan... I don't ask much from you. I want this child." "I've agreed to the child, even though I fear what stress it might put on you... I just can't agree to this manner." Rohan argued. "Please don't ask me this. I beg you."
What? Jaime literally didn't give a s##t about his supposed husband's opinion or feelings.
"You need the intimacy I can't give you right now. He needs someone to break the cycle of heat repress. And I need this baby. We all get what we need. I don't see why you both can't see how perfect this is."
No. What? Dude, there are things your husband needs and they are not necessarily sexual. He has stated many times that he would just like to be able to hold his husband. And you go off saying how he needs to have sex with someone else? Huh? 🚫 Something that REALLY frustrated me about this book was how the author just seemed unsure if what to do with the characters. One paragraph Gray actually makes some exellent points about how messed up their society is and all then the next he tells Avery to pretty much be quiet and succumb to the society. Also these two keep arguing about parenting Lake. Well, they have the one and the same argument over and over. Which wouldn't be AS annoying if they DIDN'T KEEP SWITCHING SIDES WTFFFF!?!?! Once it's Gray saying that they need to be tougher with Lake and Avery says that he just lost his parents. Then it's Avery saying that they need to be tougher with Lake and Gray says that he just lost his parents. Over and over and over again. 🚫 I literally don't understand why alphas and omegas are kept away from each other at all costs? If the smell of omegas would drive alphas crazy and vice versa wouldn't it make sense to somehow control the urges and help them get desensitised not keep them apart and let them together for... parties..? I don't understand how all that worked 🤷♀️ 🚫 There was so much unnecessary "he roared", "he spat", "he cried" (cried as in yelled not actually cried). These literally came from nothing. The characters would have a normal convo, then someone roars, then the normal convo continues. Sometimes just said works too 🚫 Basically I knew from the beginning how the story was going to end and that ruined the whole experience for me and it felt like I was being forced into thinking Gray and Rohan would be a good couple (for which there were absolutely 0 actual reasons. They had no interactions that would hint at that, everything was forced upon them and the reader by Jaime) 🚫 0 chemistry between Rohan and Gray. I honestly shipped Gray with the beta more than with Rohan. 🚫 The... the... sigh... I know it was supposed to be a sad scene but... I laughed. Hard. *spoiler I guess but it is made really obvious that it's gonna happen so idk* Jaime kissed the babies, said goodbye and closed his eyes and died? Just like that? What? He was fine enough a second ago, nothing hinting that he was dying. And he just closed his eyes and he was dead? What? I literally cried but not for the reason I was meant to I swear ✅️ I did like how Gray and his nephews' grief was written. Very relatable and beautiful and actually made me emotional. Good job.
With so much loss one could experience. Here you find a world of men. Divided onto Alphas, Betas, and Omegas. Why! Something happened a big something. That left them in this state. It's only hinted at.
Apparently when these...I am thinking they take from the cat shifter lore. Where a pride has one alpha and several compatible omegas. With betas as service staff.
Any way Grey just lost his alpha brother (father) and papa (omega)Omega. Parent's of three Omega. Being that they are family. They all move into the Omega quadrant. Can't live in the Family quadrant without an alpha. Grey has to figure out a away for them to live. While the oldest nephew wants more than being seen only as breeding stock.
Jamie cancer is in remission. He wants to give his alpha children. Hard to do because his cancer resulted in his womb being removed. As any beloved mated Omega. He talks his alpha into hiring a surrogate. Too bad his Parent's told him that they would not except the child. Unless he birthed it. ( rich people here seem insensitive or don't want to be seen in a negative light in public)
This was an interesting exploration in to cancer, survivor, loss, and the strength to love.
3.75 brightly shining stars! I have a soft spot for underdogs and outsiders, especially the solitary ones with amazing inner strengths. And boy, the omega Gray in this book fits that bill perfectly.
A chain of events places Gray in the middle of another couple's marriage during a most dramatic time in their life. What ensues is a beautiful life story with tearjerker moments as well as warm, happy ones. The author makes the events and characters feel real and authentic. Besides the lead Gray, I found Jamie in particular such a delight!
The majority of the story was a strong 4.5 star read for me. For some reason the main character's relationship arc late in the game jumped from . This suddenness left me with a disconnect with the love story the book cleverly had been building up to. I wasn't disappointed with how the story ended, only how the romance was wrapped up.
Still, the life story was magic and I will most likely read the sequel once it's released.
