A mulatto heiress, a former slave, and the case that tests their resolve...
Mulatto heiress Arielle Bradford refuses to marry the politician her father has chosen for her. When she sees an advertisement that the Pinkerton agency in Denver, Colorado is looking for female recruits, it seems like the perfect escape plan. And then she discovers she has to marry her training agent.
Former slave and Union spy Caleb Smith is leery of his beautiful but fiery partner's ability to be a good agent, but when a prominent Negro politician receives a threat on his life, it's up to both of them to find the would-be killer.
Can a woman who has never known shackles of slavery and a man who has never taken his freedom lightly not only work together, but maybe even find love?

The Pinkerton Matchmaker series has been one of my favorite and has introduced me to a lot of new authors. Parker Cole is one that is new to me and I have to say I will be reading more of her stories! This one finds Arielle, a spoiled heiress being set up for an arranged marraige by her father to a politician who is a former escaped slave after the civil war. Knowing he was not who she wanted, she saw an ad about the Pinkerton Agency hiring female agents and sets out to get the job. But she finds she will have to marry anyway to one of the agents to keep her protected. Caleb, an ex-slave himself is great at this job and he earns respect he never had before. When they meet and he doesn't give her a lot of attention, she is determined to show them she can do the job. Could they get along and could Arielle prove herself? Don't miss this next installment in this wonderful series!!
An Agent for Arielle is the twelfth installment from the The Pinkerton Matchmaker series. It is my first introduction of the series and that will now change. I enjoyed Arielle Bradford’s story. I loved her bravery, courage and determination. Especially, when she meets Caleb Smith. I am giving An Agent for Arielle five plus stars. I looking forward to read the others in The Pinkerton Matchmaker series. Great read that I highly recommend for those who love quick historicals. I received this book from the kindle unlimited program. This review is 100% my own honest opinion.
Brought together for work training, a marriage of convenience that turns to love. They come from different upbringings one a runaway slave and a spy the other a rich heiress up bringing. They learn to understand and appreciates their differences as they solve the mystery as Pinkerton agents. Mr free opinion. Thanks.

I enjoyed this book! It is the first in this series that I've read but I may read more. It is light reading - not too long, but has sweet romance and historical drama. In this case, the inequality and racism in the US at that time is brought to light, showing the struggle that continues to exist to this day.
....but not everyone is ready for the changes! I have to say that I am very glad Arielle's character grew as much as she did, the Arielle at the end of the book is a much better human being than the Arielle we met in Chapter one. Having read Claudette's book it was great to read this case from the other Pinkerton Agent's points of view too. It's also nice to see Caleb open up to Arielle and begin the healing process, a gentle giant he deserves to find happiness. My only confusion is who Matthias was actually wanting to marry and why he had Arielle's name instead?
I am really enjoying this series of stories. Each story is by a different author, so it isn't like the others. There are things happening in each of the stories that is similar to the others (Archie Gordan, the head of the Pinkerton's has the same personality in all the stories; the beginning of the story when the girls come to the agency to sign up, events are similar in all the stories, etc...). Arielle is a very spoiled rich girl. Her father was a privateer turned plantation owner and Arielle never knew what it was to be a colored person in a white man's world - until she came to America. Her father betrothed her to a black man who was one of the first politicians in America, and Arielle wanted no part of it. She saw the ad for women to sign up to be Pinkerton Agents and this tickled her adventurous fancy - it also got her out of the way of her father's guards and away from her betrothed - or so she though. Caleb was an ex-slave and he had suffered much in his life. Being a Pinkerton Agent gave him the respect that he never had before - even though many of his cases put him in a subservient position, he knew that he was free and eventually he would be able to put the men treating him like dirt behind bars. When Caleb meets Arielle, he doesn't give her the attention that she is used to and that intrigues her. Caleb just sees a rich little spoiled woman who has never known the darkness of being a slave. As they work together Arielle learns to respect Caleb and he sees beyond her facade to the strong and intelligent and caring woman beneath.
This is a clean read, although there are some heavy kissing moments.
Parker Cole has done it again. Agent for Arielle is a compelling story, which explores the experiences of a free spoiled daughter of a privateer and Haitian heiress, sent to an arranged marriage with a Black politician and a former escaped slave in the aftermath of the Civil War. With the Pinkerston Agency hiring women agents but requiring them to temporarily marry the training agent, it looks like Arielle has traded one arranged marriage for another. Ms. Cole does an outstanding job exploring the feelings of self-worth, condemnation, and prejudice, even between blacks under a backdrop of kidnapped women and murder plot against a governor and black politician. The complexity of the characters is exemplified in the emerging changes from prejudice to living each other. Excellent writing with smooth dialogue and attention to historical detail of racial mores existing in the Western states at this time.
I always feel bad not leaving a good review, but this was my least favorite book in the series so far. It did not capture me the way the other books in the series have. The author spent so much time talking about slavery and the past, that you were half way through the book before they even started on their detective case. And the case itself had very little depth and seemed to play a very small role in this book. Aside from the fact the the author referenced characters from past books in the series, this book has a completely different feel, almost like it doesn’t belong. But the author ended it in a way that implies that she will be introducing another character and story to us in the future, so I will give that one a chance with an open mind.
Arielle doesn’t want to marry the man her father wants her to marry so she takes off. She discovers an ad for female Pinkerton agents. As spoiled as she is she always get the attention of man because of her beauty and her attitude but not from the man she meets at street. And exactly that man will be her husband who will teach her to be a true Pinkerton. Can she show him that he can count on her? And can he overcome his troubled past? This enjoyable interracial story is it worth reading. This story is about love, trust and real freedom. I really enjoyed all the stories that I’ve read in this series, it shows how people sometimes need to change or just be themselves.
Parker J Cole has superbly written a story of love during a period of civil unrest in American History. This the story of Arielle, who was born free and Caleb who was a slave who became free. Paired and married as Pinkerton Agents, Arielle and Caleb found their way to respect and love while trying to find a killer. I really loved this story and the arc the characters took. An Agent for Arielle is a wonderful addition to the Pinkerton Matchmaker series and I highly recommend it!
I enjoyed this story about peoples of color who worked for the Pinkerton Agency after the war between the states ended. Arielle a free woman leaves home after being told she is to marry a friend of her father. She arrives in America and see ad for woman to work the Agency and applies. Once hire she must marry her trainer who name is Caleb a former slave. They are tasked to find out who wants to kill a black senator. This is a story with drama, mystery, action, trust and love. It was clean with a decent description of the necessary behaviors of agents that occur, without being unnecessarily gory or intimately described. It had fabulous characters that you had to fall in love with. It was written about an important subject that I don't know if it is true or based on truth, but it sure was an awesome idea and I would hope that something like this happened. And for all of the other reasons to love this book, read it! There are so many reasons to love it!

I enjoyed this book, not only because it was well-written with interesting characters, but because of the insight it provided of some of those with black ancestry post-American Civil War. Some, like Arielle, were born into well-to-do families (her father was white and owned a plantation in the Carribean), who never wanted anything, and some, like Caleb, had been born into slavery. It was a view into the micro aspects of class distinction which many of us tend to think of only in macro terms. It is well worth the read.
I enjoy reading short books that are lighthearted and fun. This historical romance fit the bill perfectly.
Cole does a good job of adding sexual tension tastefully done with no graphic details. I stopped reading romance novels long ago, because they felt so dirty. This is not a problem with An Agent for Arielle. It's got everything I want for entertainment and there is no need to skim over anything to avoid trash. If you are looking for a good, clean romance novel that is enjoyable to read, check this book out.
Excellent historical fiction page-turner of people of color and their involvement with the Pinkerton Agency set during the Post- Civil War period. Parker J Cole does an excellent job of deftly exploring what happens when a mulatto heiress (Arielle Bradford) and a former slave (Caleb Smith) are recruited to find out who is out to murder a promising Black politician. I recommend this engaging and riveting novella.
I love the Pinkerton series. This story can stand alone, but reading Claudette's story first gives this one more meaning. The editing for misspelled words is good. So is the story premise. This story is Ok. Just very minor sleuthing. No suspense. A small amount of romance. Something is missing, but I don't know what. However, if you want a simple very quick read, you will enjoy this short story.
Spoiled rich, mulatto heiress Arielle and former slave, Caleb are Pinkerton agents. Both have misconceptions about the other until they team up to find missing women in post emancipation America. Having to get married as their cover they soon find friendship, love and a mutual respect for each other. A quick read that had a bit of everything.

When I started reading this book I thought Arielle was spoiled but when she married Caleb I thought they were a perfect match. Would like to have them in future books now that they are staying married.Would recommend this series to my friends. Another great author to follow
Caleb was a seasoned Pinkerton Detective Agent and a good one too. Arielle was determined to be accepted as an Agent in training for the Pinkerton Agency. She and Caleb were matched as partners, married and sent on their first assignment. Will they stay married after their assignment is completed? You will like this story in this series.
You get introduced to Caleb and Arielle in a very unique take on the Pinkertons agency. You like them and the intrigue and humor that flows through. You also enjoy the other characters, that they come in contact with and have to deal with. some you like more than others. The story flowed nicely, so when you get a chance pick up a copy and enjoy.
This is the 1st book I've read written by Parker J. Cole; she has done a great job at writing a good book; I will definitely be reading more of her books.
The story line caught my attention at the very beginning and kept me interested throughout the entire book.
I loved the characters.

I liked the irony on Arielle running away from a marriage she didn't want and finding that in order to become an agent she has to get married. The intrigue in solving the case and watching the romance between Arielle and Caleb develop made this a fun read.

Yeah, probably not... But it sure is going to be so much fun trying to figure out who. And then it all gets totally mixed up. And just exactly who is she???? New author for me.... I think you will enjoy the story too.
Once again Parker J Cole has delivered an exciting adventure mixed with introspective strong characters that are challenged to overcome their past to open up to true Love. All the books in this series have been inspiring and well worth your time. Enjoy 💜
I love the Series and Author. This one was less exciting than the others. The historical content was a little shallow. I found it a little dry perhaps because the story line had already been told in a previous book.
The story was very sweet. The hero's past was quite moving. I really don't know why a state politician would want to become a Lumberton agent...perhaps we will find out in a future book.☺
The opening scene is fabulous!! I fell in love with this feisty lady immediately!! Although I think their romance moved awfully quick for no reason, I still enjoyed the story a lot and can't wait to read about her sister!
A wonderful storyline with good characters and lots of HEA to keep you hooked. Follow Arielle on her journey of awakening to the plight of slavery in America. Can Caleb over come his lose of his first love?
I very much enjoyed this story. I’m kinda sad that it’s not longer than novella length because the characters made me want to know more about them and their journey.
