If ever there was a man who was my exact match, my most perfect equal, it was Theo.I am a bit obsessed with these Red Lipstick Coalition books Staci Hart has been putting out, and I was equal parts sad and excited to read this one. Sad, because it's an ending to this group I love so much, and excited, because THEO and KATHERINE! I am so in love with this couple and this book. Accidental pregnancy, a swoony and amazing hero, a stubborn and analytical heroine- it was perfect.
Feelings were false, brain chemicals and triggered dendrites. Love wasn’t real. It was a series of chemosignals that one became addicted to. Nothing more. There was no magic to love. Because magic didn’t exist. Not for me. But partnership did.
"That’s the beauty of love. It can be whatever you need it to be. You can make your own rules.”
"We'd had a total of four hook-ups, including the first. And each one had gotten progressively more difficult to ignore or forget. I'd hoped I would get the urge out of my system, but instead, I wanted to slither over to him and slide my hands into his pants so I could..."
“Lip contact engages five of twelve total cranial nerves.”
“They know when to open and close gates for pheromones, how to detect chemosignals from another human and make decisions based on them. Adrenaline. Oxytocin. Dopamine. Before we know anything about each other, there’s a level of compatibility that can be determined simply by smell.”
“Something about the way you smell, the way you move, makes me salivate.”
“Did you know that lips are the most exposed erogenous zone we possess?”
“His name was on my lips, written on my heart, etched on my soul. I’d never believed in fate, never subscribed to soul mates. But if ever there was a man who was my exact match, my most perfect equal, it was Theo.”
“You’re different, and every difference you have, I admire. Everything you consider difficult and inflexible, I understand. We’re very much alike, you and me.”
“I know. But… Theo, you could have a girl who’s beautiful and charming like you. You could have someone who would complement you, make you shine brighter.”
“Well, that’s the trick, Kate….
I don’t want anyone but you.”
“We do solemnly swear,” she recited, ”to use this shiny little tube of power to inspire braveness, boldness, and courage. We promise to jump when it’s scary, to stand tall when we want to hide, to scream our truth instead of whisper our fears. May we be mistresses of our destinies, and to hell with anyone who tries to tell us otherwise.”
I could be her everything. She was already becoming mine.
I was hers, and I’d do anything to make her mine. And lucky for both of us, I never failed.
I’d never believed in fate, never subscribed to soul mates. But if ever there was a man who was my exact match, my most perfect equal, it was Theo.
