Falling in love could risk more than just their hearts.

Women aren’t supposed to fight crime, not in 1871. But solving mysteries is all Clara has ever wanted to do, so when the Pinkerton detective agency advertises for new female recruits, she jumps at the chance.

Not even having to marry her training agent for the duration of her first case fazes her, although Tobias Campbell is overly serious and a little unusual. Clara is exceptionally good with people. She’ll get him to him to loosen up before the case is over.

But when the search for a missing woman forces them into the dangerous underworld of New York’s notorious gangs, Clara and Tobias must learn to rely on each other.

Because it’s not only their hearts that are on the line. It’s their lives.

Lady Pinkerton detectives, their rough and ready agents, and a whole lot of excitement and romance! The Pinkerton Matchmaker series tells the stories of the women determined to bring criminals to justice, and the agents who win their hearts. Each book is a standalone story and they can be read in any order.

Nerys Leigh writes wildly romantic stories about American mail order brides, which could be considered strange as she is British and has never been married. But she thinks the old adage of writing what you know is codswallop.

She thinks cheesecake and white chocolate are mankind's greatest inventions. One day she’ll eat a white chocolate cheesecake and her life will be complete.

She loves nothing more than to guide her heroes and heroines to true love and then find out that other people adore her characters as much as she does.

If you sign up for her newsletter at http://eepurl.com/b-Gj2T she will he so ridiculously grateful that she’ll give you a free novella called The Blacksmith’s Heart, the story of a widowed single father who finds the love of his life a second time.

Nerys hasn’t ever used the word codswallop before. It’s likely she never will again.

A fun read

This installment of the Pinkerton Matchmaker series was hilarious and suspenseful. The author's writing style drew me into the story right from the beginning. The main characters had an interesting dynamic between them and the case Clara and Tobias were involved with was plausible and their sleuthing skills believable. I hated to put the book down. I highly recommend this book and anything else Nerys Leigh writes. I am never disappointed by her writing!

An Agent for Clara is Nerys Leigh’s second book in the multi-author Pinkerton Matchmaker series.
If you’ve read any of the others, you’ll know the series is about the “daring women who seek adventure and are of sound mind and body” who sign up to join the Pinkerton National Detective Agency only to find they are to be married to a male agent for their first assignment.

If you can buy into that somewhat unlikely premise, then you’ll enjoy the story. Clara Lee joins the Pinkertons because she’s been fascinated with detecting ever since reading about the first female Pinkerton agent. She is assigned to learn from—and marry—Mr Tobias Campbell. Tobias has an interest in forensic investigation that makes him ahead of his time. (If you’ve read The Bug Man series by Tim Downs, then Tobias is the 1871 version).

Tobias agrees to marry Clara for the purpose of the case, but that’s all. He’s not interested in marriage. He’s not especially interested in training Clara, but he’s not given the option. The couple are sent to New York to locate a woman who went missing almost two years ago—hired by the man who possibly fathered a child with her, and now wants to help.

Tobias finds Clara hard to deal with at first. She’s his opposite in many ways, but they gradually get to know each other and come to value their differences as well as their similarities. Those who have read Nerys Leigh’s Escape to the West series will see some familiar references. I won’t say more, because #Spoilers 🙂

An Agent for Clara is a fun story and Christian romance fans with a fondness for 1900s Westerns will enjoy it. Thanks to the author for providing a free ebook for review.

An Agent For Clara ( The Pinkerton Matchmaker Book 22 )
By Nerys Leigh
An Agent For Clara is book twenty-two in The Pinkerton Matchmaker Series. It is a standalone story and can be read in any order. Ms. Leigh pens a story that grabbed me at the start and I did not want to put it down. I was not disappointed. I really enjoyed the matchmaker story about Clara and Tibias. These two had me laughing out several times. In order for Clara to become a Pinkerton Agent she had to do something before her first assignment. Can she do it? Becoming a Pinkerton Agent is what she wants. Can these two pull it off? What will happen to their hears ? Are these two a good match for working together as agents? Clara is a very brave woman and I don’t think Im could have done what she did. This is a story of action, mystery, and romance.
I was given a complimentary copy of this book , but was not told that I had to give a positive review. All opinions are my own.

An Agent For Clara

A unique Pinkerton story. Clara has always loved to solve mysteries so she arrived at the Pinkerton Agency with high expectations. She is a bit concerned with the Agent she is paired with especially after running into him and his maggots prior to meeting her new husband! Clara is sweet, friendly and smart but Tobias although very smart is very somber and not very friendly.
Once they are on assignment together in New York, they find themselves having to depend on each other while looking for a woman and baby and avoiding a street gang.
Will Clara really follow the orders Tobias hands out and become an Agent? Can two such different people actually find common ground to move forward on?

Tobias and Clara

Tobias was a straight laced scientific minded Pinkerton Agent and Clara had dreamed of being a Pinkerton Agent ever since she was a child. When she was first entering the Pinkerton office she collided with a young man and he dropped the containers he was carrying, maggets, maggets everywhere even in her hair. This is just the start of the two of them working as married partners. This story has excitement adventure, humor and fun along with a burgeoning love story. You will really enjoy reading this story.

In the way of his work...or awaken his heart?

I love how geekyTobias and Clara are, their hunger for facts, for the science behind things is very endearing and makes them a perfect match!
Tobias is not your average Pinkerton agent but he certainly uses his geeky ways to his advantage, he seems to put others at ease as he appears less of a physical threat...but how wrong they are! His 'geek' hides a protector, a defender who will battle to his last breath for those who are important to him.
A great addition to the Pinkerton Matchmaker series, which I read on Kindle Unlimited.

An Agent For Clara had me in stitches. You take stuffy Tobias and a fun and loving woman like Clara and put them together, your bound to have laughs. I loved the characters . There was action, romance and funny scenes. This book is another great Pinkerton book, Nerys Leigh is a author that captivates her audience from beginning and keeps them wanting more!
Was given a complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.

Clara Lee has wanted to solve crimes all her life. Her strengths are her ability to observe and to read people. Tobias Campbell has been a New York policeman and a Pinkerton agent. His strengths are is ability to analyze and science. Together they could make the perfect pair, if they can just see it. Nerys Leigh has written a fun story with these two mismatched but perfect pair. I look forward to more books by her.

Wonderful story of wit and minds

This is definitely near the top of my list for the Matchmaker series so far. I am reading in order . I enjoyed the characters and the plot very much. Clara and Tobias (Toby) don't start with much of a chance to stay married after the case, but their personalities mesh very well. The plot twists are nice and the ending left me.with a smile. I would like to see these characters again which says a lot about how well the story is written.

one of the best in the series

This Pinkerton book has a little bit more intensity then it's predecessors! I thoroughly enjoyed and their was a higher level of mystery and danger! Anytime you add gangs into the storyline, it gives the opportunity and the writer did not miss it! Well written, cute banter, and Toby and Clara have the cutest love story! Love that they choose to fight together and deal with relationship challenges maturely! Fast, enjoyable, clean, romantic mysterious read!

Loved this book. The dialogue between Clara and Toby was quite funny and yet emotional at times also. Enjoyed the manner in which these characters were able to grow and learn from each other. However, will they stay married??? Read and find out. Highly recommended. I received an advance reader copy from the author. Opinions are my own.

Good. You're moving up.

While I enjoyed many of the other Pinkerton matchmaker books, this one out me in mind of my two favorite authors...Nora Roberts and Jayne Ann Krentz (and all their pseudonyms). Not only romance and suspense, but HUMOR. ☺ Keep on, I am sure you will get better and better.

Among my favs!

I love the Pinkerton Matchmaker series, and Clara is among the best that I’ve read. I wish there could be a sequel so we could get Clara’s impression of Toby’s relatives, as well as her showing off Toby and their win to her parents and siblings.

Can a bumpy first meeting that includes maggots, and a name only marriage turn to true love or will this be the first couple to get the annulment when the case is over? This books shows how some crime solving techniques we take for granted were not thought of in the 1890s.

The opposite personalities of the characters in this story makes for some humorous scenes breaking the pace from danger and intrigue. Definitely an enjoyable read! Enjoy 👍💜

Emotionally challenged agent Toby gets paired with Clara the exact opposite! They get involved with a gang while searching for their client’s missing person. - Babs
