Don McKay
57 books24 followersDon McKay is an award-winning Canadian poet, editor, and educator.
McKay was educated at the University of Western Ontario and the University of Wales, where he earned his PhD in 1971. He taught creative writing and English for 27 years in universities including the University of Western Ontario and the University of New Brunswick.
In June 2007, he won the Griffin Poetry Prize for Strike/Slip (2006). He is the co-founder and manuscript reader for Brick Books, one of Canada's leading poetry presses, and was editor of the literary journal The Fiddlehead from 1991-96.
In 2008, he was made a Member of the Order of Canada.[2]

NIGHT FIELD by Don McKay
An interesting collection of poems. Nothing that I can call a favorite, but it's an entertaining read nonetheless. I find it similar in style to the collection of Al Purdy poems I read recently. At only 79 pages it's worth it to give it a try. :)
Who else
has strength to tremble,
tremble and be wholly trepid,
to be soft so she can listen hard,
and shimmer, elegant and humble,
in the merest wisp of wind?

I like Don Mckay's poetry very much and enjoyed recently hearing him in person. I got this book from the library. I own a copy of his "Camber- selected poems" and would recommend it as a better deal to buy (it contains many of the poems from Night Field). One of my fav's from Night Field (which is also included in "Camber" is "Meditation on Storm Clouds Approaching the University from the Northwest".
