In times of a disastrous norovirus outbreak in McGraw’s for-fun cricket team, Susan, Esther, and Daisy are called upon to defend McGraw’s sportly honor. Taking up the bats of his fallen mates and donning their cricket whites, it’s a sporting adventure the girls had literally never anticipated! Can Susan be genteel and sportsmanlike? Can Esther stop goofing off? Will Daisy prove the greatest cricketer of all time?
Wow! I am honestly, just even in awe writing the title of this post. Like I almost want to cry because how did we get to this point (but like cry with happy joy because I love this series so so freakin much). If you are only going to read two graphic novel series ever pick up Giant Days and Saga (hands down they are my favorites). I know with every issue I am creeping closer to the end of Giant Days (and I will actually cry when this ends) but I just can not even believe how far I have come with these characters and how much I love them.
SPOILERS AHEAD
In this issue, we see Esther, Daisy, and Susan come to McGraw's rescue by helping out his cricket team! They have a very important game and the team has been hit with an illness. If they do not have more players they will be forfeit so the ladies join in to keep them in the game!
This was such a cute issue! Watching the girls try to play cricket and try to help McGraw was adorable and almost nostalgic in a way of what some of the older issues were. I love seeing all of our main characters together and working on something that may not always be in their element (but still coming together and trying to make it work). I honestly can not wait to see where things are going to go from here (and I am still sad/nervous for the end which I know is coming).
**Sidenote: someone asked when I would be reading the side editions, like the one about going to Australia over break. I will be reading these but probably after I have finished the whole series.
Oh my girls! Have I mentioned how much I love these three? Leave it to them to come together to McGraw's rescue... well at least do their best because that's what friendship is all about.
It was nice to see this issue focus on that friendship again as the girls in turn grab other friends to fill up McGraw's much needed cricket roster. I know the end is coming soon and while I'm not ready yet, it was nice to see them all have a bit of silly fun.
I can't believe that's 50 issues already. I'm still absolutely in love with this series and I look forward every month to reading the latest issue. I will never not read this series. I don't care what anyone says. Best series!
I don't think I realized how much I needed this issue, until now. Suzie and McGraw's relationship has made me irrationally worried as of late. It wasn't any of the main plots that worried me, as much as subtle hints (intentionally strewn or not, I'm not sure) here and there. This issue put a lot of that anxiety to rest though, for which I am immensely grateful. And it was a fun issue to boot. A lot of competition, banter, and of course our three leads all made an appearance. Plus McGraw. It was brilliant.
Ugh, my heart! This issue was so much fun. I loved getting to see so many of the characters goof off together, but that ending was RUDE, even though I had a very strong feeling it was going to end that way based off the plot summary for June's issue.
Also I am very emotional about this series right now after learning it's going to end this year with issue 55.
Oh well, guess I'll have to go back to the beginning and binge the whole thing again.
This cricket game bottle issue worked better than the wedding one a few back, but I think it could have been even less specific, because who really knows the rules of cricket? Also the gut punch ending I felt was a little too much. Yes, it's important to show that this is a time of change in our characters lives, but it was too real.

While I'm kind of wishing that there had been something a little bit more special for this series' 50th issue, the Cricket match was still entertaining, and the ending brought Giant Days back to an honest place that it rarely anchors but keeps the series real.
I don't know anything about cricket, which is probably why I didn't understand anything that was going on (even after having carefully read Susan's explanation three times), but boy was it entertaining. On another note, what the fuck was that ending??
Goodness gracious. Believe it or not, I saw that ending or a similar ending coming. Something about an earlier scene made me think of part of It's A Wonderful Life and how that "resolved" itself.
Hilarious—girls fill in on McGraw’s pub cricket team. Sandwiched between McG trying to help dad install printer, and then finding out after match that he’d passed.
